Episode Summary
Matt is joined by RC Concepcion and the topic of the day is Copyrights, but before they get to that, yesterday's guest post on Scott Kelby's blog from Brian Matiash sparks an interesting discussion on putting some perspective on social media.

I watched the web cast with Matt and RC and I can really relate to the frustrations of having images ‘stolen.’
I was getting tons of people using pictures on one of the pages on my site, so I spend a good part of a day looking for a solution.
Go to this link and see what I ended up doing:

As the person hovers the mouse over the full sized image, the image disappears and a “Do Not Copy” message comes up. So I think this may prevent image thieves. But it’s a lot of work to change a site that has over 300,000 images.
Great show.
Great show guys!
Great show, good topic. I have an Epson stylus PHOTO R200 with a clogged black ink jet. I cannot get it uncleaned. What do I do???
Hi, I’m shameless, I’d love to win the Sypder 3.
Action requires knowlgede, and now I can act!
Great show, thank you
I started to watch the show and at 3:01 into your show it just died and I could not get it to come back although the footage timer kept running.
Your guys are crazy and I love watching to you.
I am using onOne with every photo I process, the presets are so great. Brian Mataish is a great guy to follow on his blog and on twitter.
you seem to have uploaded the wrong audio only file. it appears to be last weeks episode??
Great episode. Nice to have RC on.
Another informative show. Thanks!
The iTunes Audio Only version of episode 15 is the episode 14 content.
Good show regarding © copyright information. Regarding China, years ago [not certain if they still practice copyright infringement] items purchased by us, especially records [poor copies], were routinely confiscated by Customs as China did not honor international copyright laws or copyright laws of another country. They may now as they have a huge interest in international trade but not back in the seventies when I was in the military.
Love the show guys, keep up the good work
Time to renew my Kelby Training membership. Gotta see that info about US Copyright registration.
Oh, and great show!
great show keep it coming..
Great Show, I will be registering my images in the next week!
One additional comment. The audio only download points to a file with “15″ on it, but the content is show 14. (Sure someone already commented, but just to make sure).
so i should totally win the two books, RC’s book to teach me how to keep my stuff from getting stolen, and Scott’s layers book to make my pictures worth stealing….
Great show again. Would like to hear more about different situations when you would submit to US Copyright Office and when you wouldn’t submit.
Hi guys,
You’re mispronouncing Mr. Matiash’s name.
It’s MatIAsh not MatAIsh.
Thanks,
Chuck
You guys work so well together I’ll bet Scott will soon regret going away so much. Looking forward to the next show.
Great insight on copyright and protecting photos.
Great show guys!
Guys you’re funny how much time you waste in a sale’s pitch. I’m sad the show is taking this route
As usual, great show.
The copyright issue is a complicated problem. How does photo copyrights apply for international issues? Like Matt’s photo used by a Chinese company? In theory it works fine, but how does it goes in practice? Could the Germany Copyrights office do something if someone uses my photos in the USA?
Haven’t checked 500px carefully yet and it’s good to hear that it has a “dislike” option! Facebook and Google+ needed that!
(BTW I would like to thank Scott for his answer on my comment about 500px editorial review, I couldn’t reply on his blog post).
I just hope that people (including myself) will have good taste to post only good pictures at 500px hehehehe
Well … please consider me for the prizes!!
what happens with international photos? the copyright laws are different. How we protect our photos?
Great to see RC on the show!
Thanks for a great show
Hi guys,
Quick question around Perfect Layers.
What does it cost to use in terms of disk space? In other words, a single image can cost me over 60MB as a TIFF with ZIP compression and a couple of layers preserved, as I step into and out of Photoshop.
Do you have any idea what Perfect Layers costs to use in that sense? Does it just save its work as metadata (ie the cost is near zero), or does it save its layers as bitmaps (so it would be comparable to a PS-spat TIFF)?
Thank you.
Great show again. Thanks for all of the great info.
I remember talking to a lady last year who is a photographer and she was a flikr user a may still be but she went to put some of her work on istock and found her images on it already. Now I believe istock went after the other person that took her images from flikr and put them on istock.
I am not a big flikr fan but it is great to use for what is was made for and thats SHARING your images.
The discussion on copyright was very interesting. I always wondered how you went about getting something copyrighted.
Great show as usual. Keep it up!
Mel

Good show (is that like an automated like?). Don’t need the prizes, already have them. My cat was sleeping peacefully next to me while I was watching the rebroadcast, UNTIL the cat fight sounds came on. Woke him right up and he was looking all around for the cats. He’s sleeping again…thanks for the laugh.
As usual another great show … it is humorous as well as informative. Thanks
Great show again, guys! That’s for the copyright info!

Hey Hey Hey .. I Like as well – missing the Monday am live shows … oh well .. at least now I just replay when I’ve missed something
My answer on Poll is no.
Be it photography, or any other line of work, people should protect the fruit of their labor. Some contests that require creative submissions from the contestants also have fine print that gives them rights to the submitted material.
good show guys
great show
Good insights, need more of this.
