Cool episode guys! Matt – Try the ND filter on long exposures of fireworks and lightning. I saw some fireworks photos done this way. Unfortunately, I can’t remember where. The fireworks pics had a totally different look that I’ve never seen before.

Look forward to new show each week.

Great show guys. Thanks to Peter for all his portrait tips.

  6. Leonardo says:

Would it be an idea, when using a 10-stop ND, to focus by using the distance scale on the lens?

(BTW I guess Scott really loves cheeeese…)

Getting my drivers license renewed tomorrow.

Seriously considering sticking my chin out based on the Peter Hurley head shot technique.

God knows I could use more separation between my chin and my neck!

  13. walt Biegon says:

Could you do some more on the various software out there

I thought Larry was going to tip over!

Usually use a graduated filter in my square filter holder so hadn’t thought about horizontal mounting. Nice one!

    Thanks.

Thanks for the tip on using liveview with dark filters!

  25. John Havord says:

Great show, some great tips, especially the tip about putting the filter, into the filter holder, horizontal rather than vertical. Guess who is guilty of missing than one……… whoops!

Speaking of filters, check out the Haida 10 stop, an excellent budget alternative to the Lee big stopper.

  26. Dave Nunez says:

I watched the Peter Hurley head shave thing as well, it was awesome!

I’m still deciding between a variable ND and a Lee filter system. I’m leaning heavily towards the Lees because of the Grad ND’s and because I recently read that the variable ND filters don’t have even coverage across the frame – has anyone tested this?

  27. Rey Coronado says:

Great tips! Thanks again for all you share.

  28. chris says:

It’s extremely hard to get one. I’ve been waiting for months to get a Big Stopper. Thanks RC for the tip about keeping the filter holder turned side ways so the filters doesn’t drop out. Only problem is, graduated ND filters (4″x6″) won’t be effective.

  148. Andy Bitterer says:

Good show, as always. Quick tip from me: instead of trying LiveView (wouldn’t work with 16 stops of ND anyway, which I’m using a lot) for focus and composition, try the Xume adapters to quickly attach and remove the NDs. http://www.xumeadapters.com/
