  3. Robert Connell says:

Great show as usual. I’ve been here since the very, very first show and I keep looking forward to the next. Keep ‘em coming! Great tip by Moose!

  4. CARL AYLMAN says:

    Larry, RC,
Always a good show. Always something to take away. Nice tripod RC, but don’t you think it is a little pricey?

    • RC says:

Not at all.. I’ve often recommended lower end tripods to photographers.. and they go out and get it. More often than not.. it doesnt get used.. or doesn’t quite work as a Gitzo/RRS combo. I just see the sticks and head about as much as an investment as the glass or camera.

  5. Wayne D. says:

Nice show as always. Keep it up!

  6. Joan Josep Marcó says:

    Nice show, guys!!

  7. Andrew Scheck says:

Nice show, but agree with the above comment that the RRS tripod is quite pricey. There are other brands above box store tripods that are way below the RRS price point that would be perfectly acceptable to most photographers (including the one that Frank Doorhof reccomands).

    • RC says:

Im sure they would be acceptable.. Its just not what i’d recommend. I usually keep two different options..

For one side of the spectrum.. ive recommended Oben Tripods from B&H. Light.. decent construction.. but the heads creeped on me a lot. The head makes all the difference.

For the other side.. RRS and Gitzo. Im sure there are other combinations out there that work for others.. but I -prefer- Really Right stuff.. Should you? Thats your decision to make..

  8. Marie Sjoberg says:

    Great show as usual

  17. Jim Neale says:

Moose is the man. I hang on every word.

  18. Sruly Fryde says:

i miss the cheap shots stuff

  23. Tim says:

    Great show guys.

  24. Justin says:

I’ve been thinking about buying my first lens (other than the kit) and Moose really helped. I also thought that the tripod carrying idea was cool, I’ll have to try that. Thamks guys for another great show. You guys are Awesome!!

  25. Adam Carlson says:

Great show y’all! Nice tripod RC, I would love one of them bad boys!

  26. Can’t help but think $1100 is way too much for such a short tripod.

  27. Michael says:

    Great show Guys!!!

  28. Brian Horsey says:

Nice show, gents. It’s great to see some of the things I’ve asked you to do coming out.

  29. Gary Elliott says:

Great show. One problem I have with some of the equipment is the cost. Let’s face it. Good stuff and well made, but, a thousand plus for some graphite and aluminum? I guess I’ll have to struggle along with my three hundred dollar unit for now. Oh well…

    Thanks. Gary

  30. Keith Godwin says:

    Cracking show guys

  31. Tom Good says:

I agree about the tripod price. Maybe you could do a segment on more affordable units? Or maybe compare price points and what you actually get for the extra cash.

  32. eric boyer says:

    great show. cool tripod

  33. Steve Hinds says:

$1000+ tripods are good, but there are $300 carbon fiber tripods (street price) that work well up to 20-22 pounds, that are award winning, very light, and feature rich. I am not talking about Carbon fibers that weigh almost as much as aluminum. You ought to discuss those sometime.

  34. Steve Barosko says:

Great show, liked the tripod segment and the metering discussion.

  35. Tony Blackwell says:

Nice tips again. Hey, I like books.

  36. Cecil clontz says:

    Another great show!

  39. Steve U says:

    Great show!

  40. Jason R says:

hey pick me, that tripod is out of my budget, but its so sexy

  41. peace gaddis says:

    great show
    keep them coming, coming

  42. great tripod RC, but a great price too ;) )

  43. One thing on Nikon SLRs, the metering mode affects the BL (balanced) mode in the external flash. BL is available in matrix and center-weighter, but not spot. When you turn to spot mode the BL goes away on the external flash.

  44. takeshi i says:

I love to get the Really Right Stuff tripod. It’s the same as my wanting an Audi. It probably won’t happen. I am looking at Benro Travel tripod (carbon fiber) which stills empties my money out…

  45. Roger says:

Metering mode demo was great as was the tripod info. Agreed you should buy the best equipment you can but $1100 for a tripod is a little steep for me.

  46. Stephen R Tibbels says:

    great show

  47. Chuck Sider says:

What’s a reasonable tripod with a ball head in the $500 range?

  48. Randy Hanson says:

    great show

  49. Bernie Doran says:

    Great minds think alike ;-)

I have carried my travel tripod like that since I first got it. When I stop to shoot, the tripod is usually set up before I get the camera out of the pack. That way I actually use the tripod I invested in.

  50. RON says:

    Nice tip RC,
I need to start carrying my tripod that way.
Hate those clips and such on the back of my bag.

  51. I learn something new every time I watch your show. Great stuff guys!

  52. alex marnoch says:

    Super show, thanks guys

  53. John Pierce says:

Great tips from Moose, on metering modes and tripods. Keep up the good work.

  54. clive Davies says:

Another great show. Nice to see RC back! Haven’t seen Moose for a while!
The tripod is a bit pricey, good product though…

  55. John Havord says:

    Excellent show.
Love the tip about spot metering for hdr. always something new to learn.
    Thank you.

  56. Andy says:

Good show. Great looking tripod but it would be great if it was not so expensive for the amateurs.

  57. Joseph Zee says:

Good show as per usual, and tips from RC on metering is wonderful. I’ll try next time when take HDR. Also tripod looks good ;-)

  58. Lewis Johnston says:

    Hey Guys,
Thought the demo on the different metering modes was a great way to illustrate how they work.

  59. Harry says:

    Great tips Larry and R.C.

  60. James Burden says:

Great show guys! Welcome back RC! RRS makes some awesome stuff but a little pricey on the sticks.

  65. Francisco Sanabria says:

    I want the spyder!!

  66. George Kwain says:

Guess the tripod won’t make Larry’s Cheap Shots.

  67. Paul Morgan says:

I had my new Surui ( made in China carbon fiber) tirpod wih BH30 head on it I strapped it to my back pack for a five hour hike up a mountian in BC I had it tied down tight but I had one leg hanging out 3/4 of the way up I noticed I had lost two sections of one leg it screwed off on the way up I was pissed so I had to use it a mini pod with all legs in and sitting on the ground most times.Always have three legs in none out.Plus I had my Manfrotto CF190pro with a BH55 on it a train surprised me and smashed my new tripod and dinged the head it still works.

  68. Dave Walters says:

Great show. I agree that the RRS gear is great.

  69. Steve Van Vleet says:

    Another great show!!

  70. I’m really interested in seeing how you use the Spyder cube. I’ve wanted a grey card for long time, but that looks like a really intriguing option!

  71. D Patton says:

Great segment on the metering modes. Looks like a great prize package too.

  72. jason davis says:

    Great show! Keep em coming

  73. John Swarce says:

Good show, guys! Not a lot of subject matter, but it was good that you spent more time on it, rather than trying to cram a lot into the show. Larry, your demo was excellent, and RC’s HDR tip was very helpful.

Wish I could afford a RRS tripod combo, but I balked at the prices on their site. Maybe if I win the lottery…. :-)

Would love to win some books, though!

  83. Larry Nienkark says:

    Nice

  84. Kevin McGrath says:

    great show

  85. Neil says:

Would love to have one of those RRS tripods, but I am doing just fine with my aluminum alloy Induro. It weighs less than a pound more and was eight hundred dollars less. I’ll hump around a pound for $800…

  86. Neil says:

Comment system ate my last comment.

  87. David Murphy says:

    I love books on photography.

Love the show. Great info and tripod information. Thanks.

  115. Rajiv says:

RRS and Gitzo are both pricey, but rock solid and stand behind their products. With some other brands, you may get lucky but you often have an equal chance of being unlucky and have to replace the product within a couple of years of regular use.

  116. Joe Aragon says:

Thank you for another good show…

I definitely would lke to see that Spyder Cube demo… but also, expand that to other white balance tools, like standard gray cards, plus those didgital white balance cards, etc.

That is an awesome prize pack.

    Floof and run!!

  151. denis says:

    how about 3D metering mode?

  152. Igor says:

I think it would be great if you guys would do a segment on using/buying a grey card. The 3D cube looked cool, but is it better then the flat cards or the cloths?

  153. Dan says:

Nice legs R.C. Scott must pay you a fortoona to be able to afford such nice equipment. My wife would kill me. I guess at your level, selling your work must pay for all the extras. In any case, thanks for the tips. You too Larry

I guess if you can afford an $1100 tripod, you should be able to afford a sherpa to sclhlep it around too. try say that 3 times fast..

  211. Jeff Wuerth says:

Really enjoyed the tip on HDR metering that RC gave, Huge helper. Also the Really Right Stuff gear is nothing short of awesome. I own the RRS TVC-24 and use it for everything. I travel extensively for work and always find myself throwing it into a suit case, it’s absolutely amazing. If anyone is thinking of buying a new tripod to do everything including travel, the TVC-24 is the way to go in my opinion. By the way, I would really like to hear the tips on the Spyder Cube, thats another toy I own and would really like your take on it.

  221. Great show as allways guys, really appreciate the info you put out.

  222. Paul Driver says:

    Excellent show!

I fully understand and agree with RC’s tripod advice. I’ve seen too many accidents caused by cheap tripods. I do shutter (see what I did there?) to think of spending almost half of what I paid for my DSLR, but it’s cheaper than replacing camera & lens due to inopportune gravity situations.

  223. emilio b says:

    $1K+ tripod: wow!

  224. Ray Vollrath says:

    Another informative great show.

Another great show. great tip on how to carry your tripod RC.

  227. Miriam says:

Thanks for the tips. I was sold on the idea of a smaller lighter tripod. Until I saw the price. Is there something in that size range that is less expensive?

Would love to see a show in which various tripod alternatives are discussed. Saw a gizmo on Photojojo that was like the string on the shoe idea. And what about monopods?

  266. John A. Fugel says:

    Another great show!

I’ll add my voice to RC’s as a very satisfied user of RRS ball heads (BH-40 and BH-30) and camera/lens plates.

Yes, they are not cheap, but you truly get what you pay for. I learned that lesson the hard way by constantly buying up when I should have started at the top.

Although the RRS tripods are great, I’ve used Gitzo for the past five years and I’m very satisfied with their quality and durability. The 1541T (now discontinued) is great traveling tripod and it fits easily in my carry-on bag. I never go out to shoot without it!

Again, thanks for a great show. They just keep getting better.
    John

  267. kc carlson says:

Great show. 1100 for a tripod, this is definitely not Larry’s cheap shots anymore. Must be nice.

  268. J says:

Regarding your explanation of evaluative metering …. I do not think that the camera’s computer evaluates parts of the scene.
I was taught that the camera sees “shades of gray” (like a gray card) and evaluates the exposure value from there. Is that correct?

  269. Kamran Aslam says:

    Great Show.

  270. David Weber says:

Another super show!! I will have to tell my daughter about the tripods from RRS-she just inherited my D2Xs and needs the support.
