    great show

What is the best setting to shoot the Moon?

    see you soon

    • Jennifer says:

Re shooting the moon: I’ve heard it’s best to NOT shoot a full moon. Better to shoot the night before or after a full moon. Sorry, I don’t remember the source or why.

      • BoKo says:

If you shoot half moon, you will get the most detail at the day/night line. With a full moon you obviously don’t have that.

      • Tom Good says:

China. Town is great bu I have to say that Matt’s mystery walk has my imagination jumping!
Besides who safer to go on a photo walk with than a Black belt?
That being said, I would really like the transmitter set as Imnot sure I could get the time off for SF.

    • jock Goodman says:

It’s faster than you think. remember, if you can see the moon, it is DAYLIGHT there. Full moon doesn’t show craters as well as a side lit 3./4 moon. It is SOOO much brighter than anything on earth, that I always shoot a tele shot of the moon THAT night and a wide shot of the landscape and composite it IN THE SAME SPOT. At least they are the same moon the same night. Easy enough to drop in a moon from another time, but for me, I feel better doing it all the same night. Feels LESS like fakery. Look for moon tracks on water or wet street too and line up accordingly.

  2. Ken Hunt says:

Glad to see you guys back. The flash trigger would be cool to win!

  3. Jay says:

I would love to be part of the Google+ Photo Expo, I love you guys and Google+.

  4. Matt Perkowski says:

Great show guys! Glad to have you back again. Any chance you could do a bit on using a monopod. I have one but I can’t figure out how to use it without it wiggling a lot while I’m taking photos.

  5. Scott says:

You guys are, um, kinda awesome. And it’s good to have your kinda awesomeness back for another season.

    Can I borrow Matt’s 105 for a couple minutes?

  6. RON says:

    @W Patrick Clements

I always use the sunny F16 rule for that, full moon =f16, 3/4 moon = f11, half moon = f8 ,1/4 moon = f5.6 1/60th to 1/125th on shutter as a starting point. refine from there. all at iso 100.

  7. Suzanne says:

Glad you’re back. I love my 105mm micro, too. It rarely leaves my camera. I’m glad you are going to do more shows about macro photography in the future, that’s my favorite. I’d love to win a trigger.

I’m also wondering – have you ever used a Benbo tripod? I just got one, and I’m getting used to it. It seems a good choice for macro in the field.

If Larry Becker is still doing tips on cheap gear, I’d love to know his best choice for a little arm to clip onto a Nikon R1C1 unit. Nikon wants $40 for one, and I bet Larry has a cheaper alternative.

  8. Rob says:

  19. monkeyinabox says:

AWESOME! Absolutely loved the Lindsay Adler segment. MORE MORE MORE!

How about this season instead of cheap tricks with duck tape, black straws and cardboard, you get Larry to do a segment called “I’m Gonna Make You Spend Money!” and show gear that you must buy. ;)

Awesome spanish RC, you should do a whole show in spanish!!!!

  25. Talesh says:

Great to see you guys back!

Hey RC, I would love to see you review of some more minimal camera protection. I want to walk around with just one body and lens, but would love some protection for the elements just for that combo instead of carrying all my gear around.

Great to see you back. I’d love some beginners off-camera flash techniques. I was emailing back and forth with Larry a while ago and he recommended something a lot like the flash accessory you have in the competition this week, I look forward to picking one up soon and letting him know how well it worked.

Speaking of, I know I’m not the only one who loves the cheap shots sections, hope we see some this season. :)

  116. Gary Elliott says:

The setting sunlight tips were great. I’ve had that issue often at sporting events where the sun is setting and I need to get head shots. I’ll definitely try this technique and see how it compares. It’s a lot of post processing either way, but the best final look is what counts. Thanks. Gary

  117. Emad elder says:

    Welcome back

  118. Great tip on the vertical clam shell lighting! I’m starting to do some head shots ala Peter Hurley.

Also hoping you guys feature some underwater photographers…I volunteer…ME! ;-)

  119. Vee Pallaram says:

Could you explain in layman terms exactly what you have to do to your camera settings/shooting the scene when someone says ‘expose for the highlights/shadows’? It may be a simple answer but not an obvious one. Also, in real world situations on the move, does anyone ever use any other metering system apart from evaluative/matrix? I’d love to know when exactly to use spot metering by showing examples. Great show, Vee

  120. Carlos De la Rosa says:

RC es un Maestro!!! guys you are really cool…

  121. Great to see Matt, but what have you done with Larry? Were you guys soooo jealous of Cheap Shots that you have tied him up with some Home Depot bungee cords? Come on!!!

  123. David Vaught says:

Welcome back, I keep one plate on the camera, and one plate on my 70-200.

  140. Sy Seltzer says:

Great to see D-Town is “Alive and Well” and back for this mid-spring season.2012.

Tthe internet URLs are flooded with commentary on the new D800/D800E and D4. I know this is great marketing and sales for Nikon. And that some Pros will want to get the latest and best camera bodies for upcoming projects. However, for many other Pros and Advanced Amateurs waiting 6 months or more is a wise decision…. so Nikon can correct any problems, hopefully in these models.

As for myself, being an Advanced Amateur and for my photography interest, my D700 is a fantastic camera and will continue to be (I do not need 36mp even if the images I see from the new models are very impressive). Perhaps they will have a new model in the future with about 20mp, which should be perfect, again for my photography interest.

    Regards…

  141. Sy Seltzer says:

    Hello,

I am an Advanced Amateur and own a D700. Can you perhaps have a segment on using Live View, Hand Held and Tripod use…. To be more specific, phase detection/contrast detection Auto Focus, Depth of Field. (screen brightness)… It is a little confusing regarding half way pressing the shutter button and/or AF ON button (for focusing)… for . mirror up, blank screen, for example. Menu Settings…

    Thank you in advance,

    Regards

  142. Felix says:

    Welcome back guys.

  143. Jeff Grooms says:

    Welcome back !!

I would love to see some shows on Macro. Especially the use of a macro rail. I can’t seem to get the hang of it or getting the focal place right. My images seem to be” stretched “after trying 7-12 image stacks . I didn’t realize you could do panorama’s with a macro lense :)

    Jeff

  144. jock Goodman says:

Bienvenidos amigos. It’s GOOD to see a photoshop GAL once in a while (Lindsey), I mean, you dudes are,,,,well,,,,,OK, awesome, but nice to have a ladies presence occasionally. ……. Can’t make it to G+, so if I win, the remote would be handy.
Pocket Wizard has the new Plus III and some webinars, but how about you guys showing what it can do? Your teachings are a bit slower than ?Mark from PW and easier to follow. I have some PWs and am still not fully versed in their MANY functions. Like how to use the utility to set a unique channel ect. Simple off camera flash is a breeze as long as I don’t run into a conflict with another PW guy using channel 1 or 2. Jock

  145. jock Goodman says:

WANTED: compatible roomate to share double occupancy at Mandalay Bay (+-$150/ nite) PSW in vegas in sept. Mid aged male semipro Nikon sports shooter, . I can be reached on G+ ……Just begining to get it set up. Jock Goodman

  146. Joseph Fanvu says:

  147. Dana Schagunn says:

Great show once again. The little segments with Kelby Training instructors add a lot to the show.

  148. George Giakoumelis says:

    Great show. Welcome back

  149. L. Ling says:

Glad to see the show back from Hiatus. So Matt, my question is, you didn’t use any reflector in that sunlight shot you showed? that’s all completely exposure compensation?

    thanks for the tip.

  150. Too obvious that you guys rock and are awesome so I am not EVEN going to go there to the RC & Matt are awesome hotel…I mean c’mon..why, right? So…idea for a show…”harness mania..which ones do you love? Black Straps, Sniper Straps, Cotton Carriers..WHICH ONES ROCK?? Llike You…:)

  151. Khan says:

Hi guys, awesome show, I have a question regarding night time shooting. What iso setting should i use for long exposure shots. thank you

  163. Pavel Uhliar says:

    Welcome back, guys,

Thanks for Lindsay’s presentation, straightforward easy to understand and valuable info.

I would recommend to show comparison of photos after each change of lighting, it will better illustrate the difference then just showing the new one.

  164. j.d.hunter says:

I don’t like that word either (bokeh) why not BB or bb (background blur).

  165. Jarle Thorsen says:

How about making a segment, or preferable a whole show about (African) safari. What gear to bring (camera, lenses), which filters to use, which camera settings works best? Suggestions on which tour operator to go with etc?

  166. Robert Jacobs says:

    thanks

  167. Kjell R. Jørstad says:

I like the word bokeh and this is HOW it is pronounced:
