  12. ROBIN HORTON says:

Great show again guys but I must give this warning about the wire wool tip. I have done this many times with superb results but sometimes the wire wool can disslodge from the main clump and its very flammable, if it lands on your skin or hair I dred to think what could happen, always wear a hat, eye protection and a coat.

  13. Keith Godwin says:

Missing you already – hurry back!

  14. M W Dawson says:

Great season, guys. Would love to see some more in studio stuff or in-the-field type landscape/portrait type things that Matt would do from time to time in the past. The LR4 tips you have been giving are great too. Have fun at PS World; wish I could be there.

  15. Jörg says:

Great tip about the DNG-format. Until now I just looked at it as just another more or less proprietary file format – just not from a camera manufacturer. But I didn’t know, that there were really solid advantages to be had from using that file format. And Larry’s part about that burning stuff was quite inspiring. Looking forward to the next season.

  16. Theo says:

Hey guys I will not make Photoshop World so I will tell you now great show.

  17. Greg Young says:

Great show, as always. Would like to see more cheap shots. Bring it back down to the amature photographer. There are more amature then pro photographers out here.

  18. Pat Fogleson says:

Isn’t this like the second or third season finale this year?????? no breaks guys.

  19. Andrew Scheck says:

Great show once again. A little nit-pick though (which you can feel free to ignore), the Adobe dng format is more then simply a better compression method.

DNG is an Adobe proprietary storage format that is not supported by most other software (including native Operating Systems). Granted the camera raw formats from Canon and Nikon are also proprietary but they are supported by not only the “free” camera software that comes with the camera but a good number of other software applications.

It is just my opinion, but to bet on a format that is supported by a single source (at the present time) is currently a risky proposition.

Perhaps dng will become a standard and will be universally supported. Then again perhaps not. We are littered with graphic file formats that are slowly losing support in software applications (ex. pcx/dcx, wpg, …). Gambling that DNG is going to be universally accepted so that I can access these files in the future, is not a bet I am willing to make at this time.

  20. Ron McGrechan says:

    Excellent show

  21. Christopher Mainprize says:

    /Jonas

  31. marcus says:

Also, not a show specific comment, but something you should pass along to your web developers. You really need to a find a solution for posting comments that doesn’t reload the page and re-start the video. It’s mildly annoying if you remember not to post until the show is over, but infuriating if you post a comment while the show is running.

“Dtown, the show for digital SLR shooters”? Are you sure guys? How come no mention of the Canon 1Dx or 5D mk3? Still i`m sure you`ll rectify that next season with a “Special”. Missing the regular “Cheap Shots” by Larry, maybe folks can put forward there own ideas for Larry to mention next season?
As a suggestion, i feel the show is too short to have a guest on for a few minutes, surely thats “the grid” terrritory. I enjoy your new products slots so keep up the good work.

Great show guys. Some more shooting challenges would be nice.

Review best locations in different countries.

Keep up the great work guys

  171. Dave M. says:

I like the level of experience that Dtown aims at. I am kind of trying to find which type of photography is the most interesting (besides broken things. Fractography is a portion of my professional responsibility) to me. So the mix of styles presented by the hosts and guests is great.

  277. Quick note on light painting with steel wool:

The sparks you see are essentially tiny specks of thermite, which can be bad for lenses and even worse for eyes. Use appropriate protection for both.

A few months ago, lighting fried my Epson 2200 printer and a few other things. I live in Brandon, need I tell you of the joys of lightning in Florida. Since then, I’ve been saving my nickels to buy a replacement. The 2880 would be my choice.

Winning the 2880 would make the whole lightning thing OK

    Fun show.

The steel wool thing looks interesting. Gave me the idea of trying to set up a shot with three or four people spinning around like a derbish and shooting them from above. Would make a cool shot.

Had a hard time following the DNG idea from RC. When you convert a RAW file to DNG, does the RAW file just get replace? Sure wish all the manufacturers would just agree to output in DNG and get rid of all the proprietary RAW standards.

Bummed that it’s the last show of the season.

  410. John Dabarno says:

Great season guys looking forward to another, with more cheap shots, tips, and gear recommendations. The question I would like more clarification about DNG files is once I upload them into Lightroom 4 as DNG’s is it necessary to hold on to my CR2 files and have twice as many files or is it safe to get rid of them and just keep the DNG’s. Thanks again.

  423. HenryH says:

Good stuff, though I remain a bit of a DNG skeptic. There’s a YouTube video out there somewhere where someone was doing the steel wool thing and a chunk landed on the front of his lens, leaving a nice melted spot smack in the middle. Not sure I’m willing to take those kinds of risks.

  428. Patrick Gooden says:

I like your discussion about the DNG format, but I am wondering why it does not have a wider acceptance in the industry? I, also who like to see more hands on with the new D800. Let’s face it Nikon does not do a good job of providing market videos on the product with new and experienced Nikon users that exploit many of its features.

  429. I’d like to see a show covering shooting
and loading for preview on my new Ipad

    Thanks

  430. Gene says:

  442. David Mpore says:

Thanks for all the great info

  443. Rob Graves says:

Enjoying the show. DNGs are a good way of using raw files from newer cameras with older photoshop (and elements) versions. Use the free Adobe dng converter and you can open the DNG From the older software.

  444. Jeff Wuerth says:

Hey guys, thanks so much for all the great info. I especially enjoyed the .DNG talk from this specific episode, I’ll be converting all my photos from the past, and import as DNG in the future. Thanks again.

Great show as always. Question with the realization that DNG 2012 is Lightroom and I assume it will be coming out in CS 6, but is there a way to convert it over to DNG massively like there is in lightroom. Figure there is a way, but had ask

Great Season guys…need some female input on the show next season, how ’bout a female guest host.

  582. Lee Calkins says:

How about computer tips? Say, why and when would a photographer need 64 bit vs 32 bit…things like that.

  583. johnny says:

    nice epson nice

I enjoy your shows. How about more info on Lightroom 4.

  586. Lee Weikert says:

Enjoyed the show, especially the second one on one interview. I appreciate the tips and tricks posted as well. I have been watching the show since season one episode one and maybe it is just me, but there seems to be more and more plugs, commercials, and advertisements for Kelby Training. I understand that this is a free program and you need to pay the bills which Kelby Training is supplying, but go back to the first two seasons and the advertisements were minimal and not obtrusive; and I quite enjoyed watching them with Moose Peterson doing a portrait session with the Bison, and Joe McNally shooting it out with the cowboys. Probably eliminated myself from winning the prizes, but I still like your show and watch it every week. Thanks for listening.

  587. Stuart says:

Great show guys, I always look forward to your shows. I cant wait till the next season.

  588. Patrick Aalmans says:

  593. Ron Blair says:

I’ll miss you guys while you’re off. Always good stuff on your shows

  594. Be nice to see less stuff focused on people. There’s a ton of photographers who never shoot people, my self included (other than the kids).

Wildlife and nature barely seem to be mentioned other than in the lenses episode but even then only in passing.

  595. Xu Wang says:

Awesome show, guys! Looking forward to the next season :D

  611. Thanks guys for another great season. I really enjoyed all the shows, and have been watching from the start. Next season, I would like to learn how to upgrade my speedlites. Hi Guys,

Thanks for all these little tips but oh so important through the years.

    Greetings Wim

  616. NOOO!!! Its over!!! This season went away too fast! Hey! Could you guys bring back the the cheap tricks? They where cool! I usually go to the site but we always want more jejeje

  617. Dennis Zito says:

Hey Guys, great show as always! Good info on the dng file … especially the file processing. Next year I’d like to see some info on Auto Focus. I purchased a Canon 7D which has many Auto Focus options Single point, zone and etc. If you could talk about those and the advantage of each that would be great. Also, using the AF back button for focus and exposure … is that best? I’ve also been doing a lot of manual shooting. Could you just touch on that and some of your niffy tricks!

    Thanks again!

    Dennis

You guys need to go mainstream! Would love to see the show at least on a cable channel. A show on photo developing options would be great! Maybe talk about cost/quality relationship plus do high level review of some labs and even home printing options…
