  6. Jack says:

Introducing the new casual (living room) discussion with a guest photographer is a wonderful compliment to the D-Town show. RC did an excellent job of interviewing resisting the urge to interrupt, just laying back letting Zach tell his story. A great story it was with an excellent lesson for each and every one of us.
    Thank you.

Perhaps interviews should be left for The Grid and DTown saved for short tips for photographers. I like Zack Arias, but the format wasn’t what I have come to expect from DTown.

Hi Guys, Love the show, being in New Zealand I get to see it on Friday afternoon when I am struggling to make it to the end of the day. The other good thing is that it inspires me to get my gear out over the weekend. I recently read a book called Visionmongers by David DuCheim, anychance of getting him on the show?

  30. John Swarce says:

    rc is the man

    Keep it up

  39. TIshimaru says:

Nice perspective regarding trying to be a fashion photographer.

  40. Awesome. Please, please, please incorporate more conversations with talented photographers and/or photography related guests in future episodes. I really enjoyed the talk with Zack. That casual format worked well for me.

  41. Jeff B says:

    Like the talk format.

  42. Still wrapping my head around it.

Perhaps a 3rd show is where my head is going? The Grid for the talk show, DTown for “gear” and “15 Minutes of Famous” for the interview thing? I really enjoyed the format, and would love to see more of that. It also makes a nice evolution to DTown, though. Having watched (literally) every episode since inception (back when it was a Nikon show), I can see how it can be hard to keep coming up with new content, without it turning into a “this is new from them, that is new from those”. Really, how many times can you talk about lenses before it gets old? Light leaves the flash, maybe gets coloured, travels through the air, goes into a lens, scrambles about and lands on a recording medium. Everything else is the art.

    Dunno. Awesome stuff. Still processing.

  43. Amber says:

Just found your show! Love it!

  44. Greg Cary says:

Great show loved the Bag. Zack had a lot to say about how the media is pegion holing us by the area of the world we live in. So if you don’t live in the right town they will discard your Photo’s and your effforts to expand you skills. because you live in the wrong state or time zone.

  45. Hey, great show with Zack, what time does the Kelbytv.com/onair comes on. I would like to know and watch the show. Thanks

  46. Andrew says:

I enjoyed the interview format — a nice break from the usual. And I have a soft spot for MF and LF film, so the book would be great (hint). Thanks!

  47. Bryon Wiley says:

    Great Show!

  48. John G says:

Thanks for another awesome episode. The interview with Zack was great. Watched on KelbyTV by the way. Back to KelbyTraining now. Thanks everyone.

  49. Squirrels!

    Great advice from Zack.

  50. Awesome dudes. Watching this on Itunes.

  51. Robert Norris says:

Great show with some great tips. The gear was certainly not one of Larry’s Cheap Shots!! The coffee talk with Zack was pretty neat give you that real feel of the business and it isn’t all gravy. The tip about the photo review being off is something I thought everyone did already. I guess because I was from a film background and never had that option is why I don’t have it on. I learned a long time ago to get it right in the viewfinder because you don’t get a redo. Keep them coming it’s always an adventure!! Thanks!

  52. PD Taylor says:

    Always lern something…Thanks!

  53. Harry says:

    Great interview with Arias.

  54. Brian Scanlon says:

Great episode! Great interview! Thanks so much for not screwing around!

  63. Juan A. Vizcaino says:

Here I’m watching you from Spain, so I don’t mind if it’s “live” or recorded, but I love this short shows and they are really good…

    You guys rock!

  64. Simon says:

    Hi.

I don’t normally comment, though I’ve been an avid follower of Kelby Media stuff for some time.

I just wanted to make a request to have more of the kind of thing that you did with Zack Arias on the show. A conversational interview where the guest photog is doing most of the talking and it’s more about their stories/background/approach rather that how do you deal with X problem or whether they agree with the interviewer’s opinion on an issue.

While I like a lot of your shows, this one really stood out for me. More of this please. Also, RC is an awesome interviewer!

  65. Jesper Mathiesen says:

    Love the show

  66. james says:

  75. Jim Neale says:

Thanks guys. I never miss a show. Thought the interview was a little drawn out – not too long but would have loved Zack to have covered a little more territory.

  76. Len Cohen says:

Loved the interview with Zach. Eye-opening!

  77. Francis says:

    You guys are awesome!

  78. Man! Listening to Zack is really cool!!!

    “squirrels not girls” hahaha

  87. Joseph Myers says:

Zach is always interesting and Peter is the “new” interesting.

  88. Sue Liberto says:

Love your podcasts! I listen and watch at the gym on the bike.

  89. Dave Nunez says:

Loved listening to Zack and RC hang out. Great rapport between the two of them and definitely an interesting topic for me, having just started shooting Model Mayhem models in the last few months. It’s a fun creative outlet and good practice but I’m under no illusion that it will ever get me any work.

As for the Film is Not Dead book – it’s actually on my wish list on Amazon! :)
I have an old Mamiya medium-format film camera that I’ve been using occasionally with both color and b&w film. The look is amazing and something that can’t be duplicated on 35mm or APS-C sensors.

My 6x9cm film back has more than 6 times the surface area of a standard “full-frame” 24x36mm (35mm) frame. The effect on depth of field and focal lengths is impressive to say the least!

Having no meter, autofocus, or any electronics, it definitely makes you slow down and consider everything about your shot; especially when you factor in the cost per shot (approx $2/frame)!

  90. Colin Dick says:

    Dear DTown
It’s a pity that RC’s interview was with a bitter Zack Arias who had his nose put out of joint by a New York fashion agency, but did he really think that the rest of us should abandon model mayhem and give up on becoming better photographers or models?
Just because he failed does not give him the right to drag the rest of us down. Shame on DTown TV. Shame on RC. ‘’thank’s Zack for doing that’’…rc.
I hope model mayhem make a complaint to photoshop user magazine and turn up at photoshop world to knock the chip of his shoulder.

  91. Brian Lottis says:

I love this show. Watch it every time!

  92. Charlie Young says:

Great interview,RC. Looking forward to more interviews of this type.

  94. John says:

    Film is not Dead!

Liked the Interview concept! Film isn’t dead!

  96. John says:

Always learning something new to help keep the crative juices going. Thanks

  97. William Wortman says:

    Love the show.

Just wanted to let all the landscape photographers here to know that if you want some clouds in your picture just wait till after the rain. A good time is when it rains over night and is sunny the next day.

The reason is because the moisture on the ground and in the air evaporates into the air and that what creates the clouds

  98. Bjarne says:

Love you guys, but the sound was off (very low volume) compare to you other episodes – bummer.

  99. Love D-Town TV. I get many helpful tips and advice.

Would love to have a segment explain polarizing filters.

  100. Alan Storey says:

    Great show guys!

    Great show

  103. Felix Vecchiarelli says:

    Great show.

  104. Jim Valencia says:

Great show, fellas. Really loved the sit-down segment with Zack Arias. It’s great to see you guys get out from behind the podium once in awhile, and the casual setting was refreshing. How about shooting at a cafe or bar sometime in the future?

As for the interview with Zack, that kind of insight from working photographers – not on technical stuff, but rather on their experience and insight into the art and industry on a higher level – adds depth and dimension to D-Town TV. It becomes a much more comprehensive online video magazine.

    Well done.

  105. I want that book sooooo bad!!

  106. George Kwain says:

    Good show. Enjoyed Zack.

  107. Michael says:

  113. Pauli says:

First, pardon my bad english. But how do I know if im really bad photografher? I cant trust my friends and family to be truthfull? So how do I know if I suck for taking pictures? Im just hobbyist who love taking photos. but Id love to take good ones.

  114. DaniLew says:

Wow. What a fantastic conversation! Seriously, Zack Arias has a face that I would like to capture. And I loved the Petrol bag too.

  115. Steve says:

    You guys Rock!

  116. Neil says:

The interview with Zak was interesting. Wasn’t a big fan of the bag Larry found, but a show on bags would be interesting, What bag do you use, and why? Why didn’t you pick one of the alternatives?

  117. Jeff Freund says:

    Good show.

  118. Phil Beavis says:

Love the conversation with Zack, it would be great to have more of these conversations.
    Cheers
    Phil

  120. Great show guys. Loved the interview with Zack and I for one think RC should take his lead on the beard.

Great show and really enjoyed the new interview format. Since you asked…I tend to download the podcast and watch it at some point during the week.

    Thanks again! Really enjoying kelbymedia!

  127. Joe Manich says:

The show rocks and I watch by subscribing from iTunes and syncing to my iPad.

  128. TimR says:

Didn’t see that one coming from Zach.

  129. Rob Cutlip aka RC says:

Love the show!! I’ve got a questipn… In my home studio, I have a beginner set of lights. The main problem I have with them is the recycle time. just as soon as I take a shot, I see the perfect expression, so I shoot & one or more of the lights doesn’t flash. My question is: What is a good versatile light that won’t cost an arm & a leg?

  130. Stefan Hargus says:

Zack brought it to the point. More of interviews like that one.
A lot of us know, how to press the shutter (and make the pic), but like to go farther and develop ourself (like “do you suck?; photo-critic; etc.”).

Watch the show on the weekend after the show because of baaaad internet on the kelbytv website.

  131. Wilfredo Gonzalez says:

Graet show and great interview guys!

  135. Hi guys,

Really dug the conversation with Zack Arias. By all means, keep indulging your inner Larry King, RC.

    Cheers,

    Paul

  136. Eric Boyer says:

    Awesome show, Great tip “Character”

  137. The interview with Zack was awesome and it really hit home. I’m one of those corp photogs that work for a large manufacturer and never thought for a second about creating a portfolio of the people. Oh yeah, I photograph people all the time but it’s never really about the person. It’s about what they are doing, the part, the product or a group that has achieved something. Starting tomorrow–I’ll start focusing (sorry abou the pun) on the people. Thanks!!

  138. Jonas Eklöf says:

Very interesting conversation with Zach. Good work.

  139. Teresa says:

    Loving the show guys!

Great Show. Have fun with the live stuff, but please don’t discontinue the podcasts. It’s the only way to watch DTown down here in the subway system!

  144. Charles says:

    Great show

  145. Marc-André Gélinas says:

    Nice show guys

  146. Steve Thompson says:

    Zack nailed it. Thanks

  147. Mickisha says:

Interesting interview with Arias. Wish there would have been some information about Jonathan Canlas’s Film Is Not Dead book, but maybe the giveaways don’t work that way. Thanks!

  148. Herb Shipp says:

    Helpful as always…

    • Weerapong says:

Hi Scott,I ordered thru Amazon the 2nd ulmvoe of your digital photography series. They asked me to do a review of it, so I did. It should be in the review section of Amazon.com. I look forward to also buying the 3rd ulmvoe. I take mostly pics at rock concerts (just saw for the 3rd time last Friday Deep Purple). It’s a sort of spefic kind of photography as we’re right under the stage and the lighting at these concerts changes really fast, throwing quite often out of whack a camera’s sensor (I have the new Nikon D300s and the D90). Was wondering what kind of tips you could give me for this type of photography.Ciao from Italy,Mario Rimati

  149. monkeyinabox says:

Great show. Loved the interview with Zack Arias. Great advice, indeed.

  150. Tony Rouzer says:

I want more of this. The show was becoming a shopping network. I want more about the situations photographers get into.

  151. Nice show guys keep up the good work. I did kelbytraining for three and image change . Pls can i get Adobephotoshop cs5 to edit my pictures, and how can i send my photos to you guy so that someone can tell me good or bad.
    thanks
    kazeem

  152. Justin Wallace says:

Get some sleep Larry! Thanks guys.

  153. redhed17 says:

Hello chaps, I always watch on the DTown website, here in fact. ;-)

About the show, I enjoyed seeing Zack Arias, as I’ve found him an interesting person when I’ve seen him talk, but I can’t agree about not trying to shoot ‘fashion’ if you are not in one of the handful of fashion centres of the World. Shoot what you enjoy, not everyone has the aim of becoming a Professional Photographer. And even if you do want to become a Fashion Photographer, how are you going to learn? You try to imitate before you can innovate. ;-)

I’m not a people photographer, but if I was I’d try everything to see what I liked.

The bag feature was a bit weird, here’s a bag that is also a tripod, but it’s not very good, and I wouldn’t use it. Why show it?

  154. Hey, great show with Zack…

  155. Ramiz Fargo says:

Great show guys. Thank very much

  156. Michael V says:

This show was just what I needed to see. The interview with Zack was gold. Thanks a bunch.

More photog interviews like that D-Town.

  158. I love that interview with zack arias, can you guys do more interview like this. Thanks.
P.S. can i when the camera bag, just joking but it is a cool bag.

  159. Mike McKennon says:

I would love to see more of the one on one interviews like what you did with Zack…. That was awesome.

  160. Jen says:

To answer your initial question, I used to watch your shows via this website – until a couple of months ago. Now when I try to watch via my iPhone, nothing happens; it simply will not play. Very frustrating. So now I have to go over to YouTube to watch your show. Then I come back here to leave a comment. A bit of a hassle, but I can deal with it.

Loved the interview with Zack! More interviews with photogs would be great to see in the future.

Re Photoshop World, when it comes to beautiful Portland, OR or even Seattle, then I’ll be able to go.

Lastly, I’m definitely liking the longer shows so keep ‘em coming!

    Cheers!

  161. Peter Lawton says:

    Great Interview with Zack!

I have been watching DTOWN for a year now. I have used many of the tips in my photography. Two of my pictures taken over the year have made the cover on our local publication. Thanks again great sourse of information.

  168. LARRY CDEBACA says:

Zack’s words of wisdom were not encouraging. Great to hear, necessary — just not encouraging to emerging pros.
