Who is that masked man….why it’s Larry and R.C.! Welcome back guys!
Great tips about lightning!
Keep going on!
love the show
Enjoyed the show and the lighting tips. Great job!!!
Love the monopod! Thanks.
You are excellent
Best wishes
Good tips this time, as always. Thanks Larry for the suggestion about the 50mm 1.8 lens. I’m off today to go purchase one. I really appreciate you writing back.
Enjoyed the tips. Thanks guys.
Enjoyed the lighting and equipment tips!
Great show guys!!
Terrific show with great tips. Like the monopod and Larry’s tip on using the reflector stand as a boom arm! Good discussion on flashes and hope you will be able to do more on future shows.
Thanks a lot.
Nice to see you again…
Another great show for you guys, and good to see a return of the Cheap Shots segment.
Cool!
Great Show guys!
Nice show as usual. Keep it up!.
Great show guy enjoyed it
“Cool” count = 14. Suggestion: How about moving from the 50s into the “groovy” 60s?
Hi RC & Larry,
Once again good show and I earn a lots form you.
Many thanks
JZ
Great show as always guys! RC, I think the monopod you showed was actually this one:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/687349-REG/Oben_ACM_2400L_ACM_2400L_4_Section_Aluminum_Monopod.html
You may want to update the link in the show notes since this is $40 more expensive than you stated in the show. Hey, I should win a prize for helping you fact-check!
Keep up the good work guys!
Hi guys. Great show, as usual. If I can offer one correction please. The $69.95 Oben ACM 2400 monopod RC was talking about doesn’t have the mini tripod legs and only goes to 5′ 3″. The one that goes to 5′ 7″ and has the mini legs has an “L” designation. It’s the ACM-2400L and the price is $109.95. Still a good bargin for the versatility you can get with it.
Thanks, and like I said, another great show.
Great show guys!
Love this show. THX
wow and wonderful shot
please keep them coming
Hope you both had a great holiday season!
kk
great episode…. loved the sugestion of the john loengrad….
Thanks guys, great show as usual. Looking forward to seeing you next week.
Great show thanks guys
Great to have you back after the Christmas break and really enjoyed this weeks tip for the use of a Monopod. Very cool !
Keep up the great work.
Cheers
Phil.
Enjoyed all the tips! Great show!
strange……. show doesn’t appear to be working on ipad?
great hints this week. would love more on flash.
Another nice show. I see you guys switched sides on the set.Anyway, I would love to have that mono pod sicne I have the onone siute already.
Amazing show!
Thanks for the tips guys. Love my Oben products.
I like Larry on the right side
Very cool tips on top of tips this week.
thanks guys.
Great monopod tip. I wish I could buy it in Europe somewhere.
Great show guys! You guys rock!
According to the B and H Website, the ACM-2400 @ $69.95 DOES NOT include the legs. RC showed us the ACM-2400L at $109.95. So 40 bucks for the legs.
I love Thursday Lunch with your guys – keep them comming.
Great show. On one of your previous shows you showed a yn-560 flash unit. A review would be nice. Thanks
Great show! How about talking about how gels over the flash work?
As usual enjoyed your show. Happy New Year to you both
Great show as always guys!
I always enjoy your show.
Great show as always.
Really like the show! I learn something each time.
Been posting comments for years & never won anything, so here’s trying again
Thanks Guys
PS loved the tip with the monopad
Great Show !!!!! 101 is still as good as 001
Jim
Awesome job Larry. (You too, RC!) Does that qualify for a cool comment?
could you take a look at Gary Fong lightsphere?
Thanks for the video, it was great..
Thanks for the great photo tips. Another way of using the monopod is screwing a ball head on top and using it as a small footprint tripod.
I am an avid follower of D-Town TV, and I really enjoyed this video.
I use the exact same monopod that RC was showing, but I never considered using it for my off camera flash.
This is a great tip.
Thanks.
Outstanding show .I wish it was a little longer.
Great tips! Thanks for the free Show each week!
Great lighting tips. Careful placement of a softbox with Speedlight would accomplish the same soft lighting effect, but, alas, not always convenient in the field.
Thanks guys. I’ve been looking for a small boom and will take a look at the Mpex site.
My attempts to mask Larry out of the show failed every time. Perhaps the price may help me.
No, Just kidding, I like you a lot, Larry and also RC of course! Nice show!
Great tips on flash diffusion. Thanks guys.
great show as always
Very cool tips, as always!
Liked the monopod tip! I work in a lot of very small condos and the small footprint of the monopod could be very helpful in some cases.
Great Show!
Great show!
Would you recommend an aluminum monopod to someone just starting to get out or would an investment in carbon fiber one be better?
thanks for that 24mm zoom tip!
great monopod great show
As always love the show!
Great show, and good tips as always!
Another great show guys. See next week.
Hey guys! Wow, another great show… Loved the diffusion tip Larry, so simple, but very informative. I live in Northern BC, Its supposed to be -18 C (or about -1 F) this weekend, any tips on cold weather shooting outdoors?
Great show as always!!
The oben monopod acm 2400 @ $69.65 is not listed as having the 3 mini leg adaptor. The acm 2400 L @ $ 109.95 has the 3 mini leg adaptor.
I think it is still worth the price.
You seem to be getting back to good game info.
Does the adapater you showed with the Oben monopod ship with the monopod or is it a separate item?
Great show guys.
Great show thanks for being there! Any way to do some camera tips…it’s been a while.
Thanks for sharing the info guys!
I just wanted to leave a comment saying how great Pete is!
Oh, wait sorry I mean Larry!
Great show as always guys
great show 101
Thanks for all the great tips.
Mistake on the Oben – ACM 2400 ! It does not come with the mini legs !
The one that has the legs is the ACM 2400L that costs $ 109.95 Check it out.
Cool Comment 101
well not really, but more Canon stuff for us less fortunate
I liked the monopod.
Thanks for the light mono pod trick , I was just
trying to figure what adapter to use . Its great you guys are always reading my mind.
Largest lover messages were made to share it with your and gives honour of the bride and groom. Extremely sound systems facing unnecessary throngs of individuals ought to take into account each of our valuable concept of all presenting, which is one
Hi Guy’s, could you do a section on the spiderlight multi bulb lighting system. I would like to know the bulb’s required at greatest distance from subject to do a group shoot with 10 foot wide background while using best possible aperture.
I am going to use a a different product but the same applies.
Thankyou for a great show.
Colin.
Love the tips RC
p.s.
check this out, its photoshoptastic.

Another great show guys. I see that you traded places at the podium. ffm
Great start to the next century (of shows, that is …). Not sure if I’m sold on the benefit of using the monopod rather than a light stand, but hey, I’m cheap. I always get great info out of your show — I can’t tell you how much you’ve helped my photography. Keep of the great work!
another great show. and another try to win a prize… But I still like the Shows..
Great show guy’s. I love the mono pod RC demoed for everyone. It is going on my wish list. Larry your tip was great also. The arm you showed will be a purchase for sure. I can think of a lot of uses.
Thanks for all you guys do for the photography community,
Jim
Great show keep on going
I’ve used my mono pod together with my voice activated light stand (VALS, aka, my wife). I moved the combination behind some tall bushes. The result put the SB800 flash up high enough that the Nikon wireless system worked in mid-day sun to fill in black shadow areas on a dark statue. My VALS is always embarrassed to be asked to help me when we are out in public. Wish I had the model with the additional legs.
Thanks for the show.
Cool monopod!
Thanks Guys! I always learn something from watching you.
Excellent show as always guys!
Love the show. Great tips!!
Great show.
great show
I have to say love the tips. I am looking forward to getting one of those monopods.
How about sharing with us the new Nikon D4?
great
You guys are soooooo relaxed together, what a great team. I have a question… You & the boys often tell us about MPIX, but is there an equivalent in the UK?
Also….. if made in the UK your shows would get comments that you never have women presenting. So here’s a challenge…. there’s no way that you can tell me that in the whole of the USA you can’t find a woman for the team. So how about it, even as a guest slot – that’s how Larry joined. After all, every training organisation should be training & mentoring it’s staff for a step up.
I love the show.
Like the show and always very pleased when each episode comes out. Thanks for the great tips.
I needed a smaller boom thanks for the tip.
Good episode, as usual. Really like that monopod.
Monopod for off camera flash, I never would have thought of it. Thanks for the tip.
I’ve owned myt monopod for four years and never realized that the tripod mount had a reduced screwhead on the alternate side. Thanks for the tip R.C. Great show.
Nice Monopod
Finally watched the show on the PC. Certainly worth waiting for.
Great idea by Oben to put those retractable feet on the monopod. A simple idea with great execution.
Great show
Fantistic tips this week, thanks. The Oben monopod lokks like a great tool for any equipment wish list.
I love the tips guys!!!
Wow, a monopod that doubles as a lightstand! Thanks, RC. Love to see these equipment demonstrations.
BTW, I loved the new Kelby Training commercial featuring Scott! Very cool production values.
–John
Good show
Love the show
I like the mono-pod and with tri legs that was really cool. I also like the diffusing tip
Hi RC/Larry,
Mono pod tip was excellent! I’m going to get one of those!
Dennis
good light tutorial.
I like the monopod!!! Next give-away?????
Great tips again! Love the one about the speedlight foot on the monopod. I’ve used my umbrella adapter before on the monopod but the speedlight foot just offered another variation. Thanks!
Oh, and Larry or RC we would love to have either of you give a photography tips or cheap shots presentation at the South Florida Camera Club if you are ever in the area. http://southfloridacameraclub.com/ .. Thanks!
Welcome back cheap tips
Great stuff. I never miss watching.
Neat monopod.
Congratulations to 100+ episodes!!!
Loved the show. Thanks.
Great show guys..
What is the frame system that is on your left wall of your set? It’s the frames mounted from a single track and looks to be three spines with various picture sizes.
Great show!
Thanks for the tip on using the monopod as a light stand.
Love the gear tips!
I could sure use that Perfect mask!
Sweet tips. Keep it up!
sweet!
Great show. Like that monopad.
That boom arm is way cool. I love cheap shots cause I’m always on a budget. Might have to pick one of those up.
Learned a lot watching this show. Thanks guys!
I still think you need to bring Brad back or discuss light stands, boom arms, and various grips that are used with them. Another idea might be a home studio set up, You could talk about different back grounds, supports, etc. Keep up the good work.
Great Show Guys!!! Can yall give ur thoughts about the new AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G
Great tips guys…. loved the cheap shot tips.
BTW, did I notice a family resemblance with your model in the diffuser segment?
Good show.
Do other monopods have legs like the one you just showed or is this unique to this monopod?
Great tips! Thank u guys again
Thanks! Cheap shot is very helpful for photography enthusiasts!
Thanks Guys
Once again a great show!
Nothing like ’101′ photography. Good show.
Good show. Cool tip with the lightstand
Great show!
Welcome back guys, great tips as always. Looking forward to another season.
I loved the episode! I felt I can and will use all of them this week. Great to see the cheap-shots segments back as well.
Thanks….
The mono pod was a great find!!
Great show guys!!!
Great show! Over a hundred and stronger than ever! Haven’t missed a single episode.
must have that monopod.
wishlisting it NOW!
post more stuff about off-camera flash please
great show guys!
Another sweet show!
I’m hooked on this show
Thank you so much for another awesome episode
Love the show, keep on doing a great work
Great light diffusion tips. Thanks!
Hi Guys! don’t forget about the distance of the diffuser to the subject also lowers contrast.
The monopod that you say is for 69.95 at B & H is not the correct one. The one for $69.95 does not have the legs. The one with the legs is 109.00
Very nice show, you keep teach us good things about photography.
enjoyed.
Give me more!!!
Guys, I really enjoyed the mono pod tip! Thanks, keep them coming.
You guys get better with each show. Keep it up!
You guys Rock!!! Great tips!!! Thank you very much!!!!
Great show. I’ve looked into the monopod as a light stand. My only concern is stability. Not sure I want to put my expensive flash on something that may tip over easily. How stable do you find these monopods with the little legs?
Haven’t watched in a long time. Forgot the quality this site brings. I’m back now. Thank you.
This show stopped working. because of the adds,. You need to have someone check the show out and make the corrections.
Great tips esp Larry’s diffusion DISTANCE tip. I’ve done RC’s monopod tip and here’s my version. I pulled the center column from an older tripod (it actually extends into a monopod, but I kept it short). I mounted my SB800 with pocket wizard on top wrapped the bottom in plastic and tape and jammed it into the MUD at the MotoX course and it was just motorcycle level. Then got into MY position and shot with high speed sync. Since there was light rain, I put a plastic bag over the flash with a rubber band and if that ain’t worth a cheap shot, ….. That WAS one of my secret weapons now the secret is OUT. have fun and enter me in the prize drawing.
Thanks guys, I enjoy the show and especially the web sites and photographers you recommend
thank you
Monopod has been added to the wishlist. Thanks for the tips.
1) Very, very glad to see both you guys are dressing for presentation. “One” of you use to be unshaven and very sloppy in appearance!
2) Why not always give several prizes out? I am sure you have many principals to give you gifts to do this.
3) LOVE your show…it is a must see weekly by this sole proprietorship photographer.
JNF
Yet another GREAT SHOW. Love that Oben monopod/stand …Thanks!!
Great Show.
Nice episode! I liked the cool monopod!
Tom
Can you guys talk about the real large format cameras like the one Frank Doroff uses.
All the tips were good, as usual. I think the topic regarding diffusion of light, and light in general, is important. Photoshop/Lightroom may help but there is nothing that can supplant getting the subject lit properly while shooting. I have learned this the hard way with film. After all, photography means writing with light so obviously, we must write well.
Great tip Larry! It may be a “Duh” for some more advanced photographers but it was VERY helpful for a beginner like me. Keep them coming!
Great show guys.
great show. RC great tip with using monopod
Great show guys. Always love it. BTW, I think the Oben monopod you showed is p/n ACM-2400L and sells for $129.95 at B&H. The $69.95 unit does not have the legs. Take care!
Another good show. Great tips!
Liked the lighting tips, Keep em coming’
Great show
You are awsome
Great show.
Great stuff! Loved the monopod tips RC.
You guys are beginning to gel now. Don’t let that Kelby fellow back in. R C enough of the PHENOMENAL already. Only joking ,seriously you do have a very good show.
Mike Gilbert
Some cheap shots ideas on storing your memory cards. I use an old zippered billfold. Love the show. I have them all!
Love your show!!!
love it…one of the best.
Great episode! Ha, I was just thinking – I’d like a cool monopod… or should I get a boom? I could use both! Thanks for the leads & tips! Cheers guys, Mike
funny how RC thinks the monopod “goes about 6 feet tall”, its really about closer to 5’5″ but I’m 6’2″ if I was RC’s height I would think it looks 6 feet tall : )
That Oben tip make my day! Thanks guys again.
RC, Thanks for the “Secrets of the Monopod”
good morning,,,luv ur show,,,great tips,,,presently using a cheap monopod due to budget for amateurs,,,gonna go get that Oben monopod this weekeend,,,
That is one awesome monopod! Oh, and Larry? You’re the swellest!
Great show, like that monopod
nice again
For some reason I only got about three minutes and them a commercial cuts into the program and cuts you off. Love your show.
Thanks for another great show with lighting tips.
Love the lighting tips.
Always great
Great Show Guys. Larry the LP62 does have a connector for a counterweight. I purchased one a few months ago and there was one with it.
Thanks Guys
Looking at getting that monopod cause been looking at monopods for a bit now.
btw you have linked to the wrong model I think, I don’t see mention on the self standing bit, but this one does – http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/687349-REG/Oben_ACM_2400L_ACM_2400L_4_Section_Aluminum_Monopod.html
But it is $110pp
Shipping to Aus is $50 which makes it a bit too expensive for my budget.
Great episode guys! Thanks for the cheap shots link to mpex.com – looks like I’m going to have to hide the credit card.
Wondering what app people are using for showing their photos on an IPad?
I’m looking for a cheap shot on creating a backdrop/staging area that is easily moved. It could be small for infant photography. Any thoughts?
Great show again guys!!!
I would love to see something on AE Lock and AF On/Off in any one of your shows. I have been shooting for about 10 years now and have NEVER used those buttons. Can you clarify those features please?
Great show. Love the OBEN Monopod. By the way it’s model #ACM-2400L for $109.95. But I like it and it’s in my wish list. See you next week.
thanks for the show
My days always go great when I start them with Larry and RC on Dtowntv. Thanks guys for the great shows——
Nice monopod. Great for lighting.
Another great show.
Love the show. As others have said, double chick the model of the monopod before buying. B&H confirmed that it is the Oben ACM-2400L.
Another fun show.
I wish you guys would do a tutorial on Perfect Mask.
I learn every time I watch your show
Thank you very much
Thanks for the great tips! My favorite show! I don’t miss it
Another great show, guys! I still love anything about flashes.
Last episode you had a segment about the 10 stop Lee filter, I’d love more on how you use filters in your own work.
Thanks.
Thanks for the tips
Great show.
Loved the monopod and price tip and diffusion info
Thanks
a comment
Great episode and awesome monopod. Might need to pick one up me thinks.
I know the show is about DSLR shooting but it would be great to hear some more info about micro 4/3′s systems. Maybe you can look at the differences, pro’s/con’s of m4/3 vs dslrs too??
keep up the good work.
nice, cheap monopod too
I was wondering if you can do a show teaching how to do outdoor portraits and being able to light the subjects well without blowing out the sky. I’m missing out on such wonderful colors! Thanks I LOVE LOVE the show!! (i just caught up last week with all the episodes!)
I need to check to see if I can use my monopod like you did.
Great show… I might need that monopod
R.C. L.B. keep the good stuff coming
Great tip on the Lumopro arm! I’ve been looking for a small arm like this, already ordered! Maybe in future episodes you can get the different vendors like mpex, b&h, adorama to give dtown viewers a promo code for discounts.
OK, show idea…
Getting the most from your Kit Lens.
Who else got a D5100 for christmas? Ehhh??
Loving your work.
Love the show!! Nice monopod!!
Thanks for the tips on diffusion!
Love THE show
Nice monopod
Nice show, love that monopod now I might have to get it.
Great to see cheap shots back!
Just got the Oben acm2400 from B&H.
It doesn’t come with the three legged stand in the bottom. Turns out the acm2400L for 99.95 is the one with the legs.
Good info on the monopod.
Great Tip I love it …
Love the monopod!
Good show.
nice to see you back
Gteat show as always.
Love the show! Would like more info on how to control my flash – Thanks!
Finally caught up with the D-Town’s lastest episode. Nice tip with the flash diffusion. I need to mess around more with the external falsh with my camera.
Love the show
http://kelbytv.com/dtowntv/2012/01/13/episode-101/
Your link is broken on the 101 episode. It starts with Larry talking and goes immediately into a advertizment and loops back to the start. Can’t get this epsiode to load.
I miss you guys..
Nice tips, specially the monopod/light stand!
Also flash. Got my first speedlite, gotta learn its best usage
Thanks for the portrait lighting tips.
hI rc & larry,
to rc just want to know what’s your nationality?
thanks a lot for all your suggestions & tips
Great show guys!!
Another great show. thanks guys.
Good tip on using the monopod for off camera lighting, but bad info. The model you demo’d is the ACM-2400L, currently $99 at B&H. I know ’cause I ordered what you recommended, and it arrived today. The 2400 non-L doesn’t have the tripod legs feature. B&H will exchange, but it’s a pain nonetheless.
Great show as usual. I’m glad you guys are back.
Can’t remember you ever covering the use of filters e.g. ND, grads for landscapes etc or do avoid them and just use post processing in LR and PS? I’ve not used such filters before.
Just wondered if you might cover this subject in future?
Another great show guys, shouldn’t the next show be up already? You guys slacking off again!
As per the last comment, some advise on ND filters would be great. What’s better out of screw in filter or the square filters (Cokin P Series?)
… great show as always
… love the lighting tips
You’re running late…!
Great show! Like to see more below 100 dollar tripod tips
Just wanted to say, great show as usual. I had been thinking about a monopod so as soon as I watched the show I ordered the Oben ACM2400 from B&H and I received it about an hour ago. To my surprise, I did not have the legs as was shown on the show which was one of the features that sold me on the unit. I just checked the B&H site and found that the unit you demonstrated on the show was actually the ACM2400L which sells for $99,95. Right now, I’m not a happy camper.
I really liked the diffuser tip. Do you have any tips for shooting under a big tree?
Hi,guys!
Great show,a lot of info.
You guys rock – always.
Could you please show some detail uses of Neutral Density Filters.
nice show guys. keep up the good stuff coming.
Great show…I never thought about using my monopod for a light boom
I used to be suggested this website by way of my cousin. I am not sure whether this put up is written by way of him as no one else recognise such certain approximately my problem. You are wonderful! Thank you!
New viewer, just found you! Great show, thanks for the tips and insight!
You Guys give inspiration to keep on going!
