    Congrats!!

Get some weldingglass and a Lee or Cokin filter holder, this gives you some green colorcast that you need to correct in post or make a custom white balance adjustment.

Can’t go along with j Maisel abt not using the lens hood, It is there for the protection of the front element of the Lens and in fact if there is a problem abt the hood falling off as can happen a short strip of gaffer tape will hold it on. If people are intimadated by lens hoods..time to move on to a better subject.

    Great show 100.
Speed-lights have been my most frustrating learning experience until I read this Book : Understanding Flash Photography: How to Shoot Great Photographs Using Electronic Flash by Bryan Peterson
after reading that the small flashes finally made sense I am now a happy experimenter with them

  170. Tomek says:

100 eps in the series and still no romantic sub-plot? Must be a great show! ;-)

@00:16:00 Larry taking off the lens hood was just epic.

Anyway, back in Europe we have the “Cokin” filter system which is based on the same principle as the Lee’s: adapter/holder/filter. One tip worth mentioning about dense ND filters is this: don’t go cheap. Knock-offs have huge color casts, and the denser the filter, the bigger the cast.

It’s nice to know what’s really going on rather than ask your camera what it is doing wrong in Auto mode. That was years ago, but I’m so glad I made the jump. Thanks RC for the filter tip, I was just getting ready to sink some $$$ into a Singh-Ray vari-ND filter…I will now take a closer look at the Lee Filters…Thanks.

Oh my your shows are old…100 episodes!! Glad the info doesn’t get old!! Loved the tips on flash and manual use. I do that often myself. The filter holder is just like the old Cokin (and new), Hoya and maybe others but appears much easier to use. I’m also in total agreement with Jay Meisel, no lens hood…haven’t used one of those since my Canon F1 days! All great tips as usual and welcome back for another 100 episodes!!

  439. Andy Fraser says:

Happy centenary. I enjoy the website recommendations at the end of the shows but wonder if it could also include other podcasts. As DTown is actually fairly unique as a podcast (high production values etc) you would not be promoting competitors but perhaps opening up the genre.

    Regards
    Andy

Love the low budget confetti. Someday you need to do a tip on polarizing filters. Specifically how to use them and what to look for when turning the filter

  470. Thanks Larry, you’ve just re-inforced my resolution.

  471. Denis says:

I’ve enjoyed Kelby Training for a long time now but here’s my best tip only discovered recently: Download the free Kelby Training app for the iPad or iPhone and connect to a large widescreen TV with Apple’s Digital AV Adapter. Wow! It brings a whole new dimension. If you thought ‘A day with Jay Maisel’ or any of the others was good before, this will blow you away – guaranteed!

Keep up the good work and best wishes for the New Year.

  483. Miriam Rosenthal says:

Congrats on 100! I am planning to buy a mirror less camera in the next few months and would love it if you could do a show about them. The purpose of that camera in my “stable” is for using at events (not weddings). Handholding my Canon 5D has just become too heavy and hard and it sounds like I might be able to get equal results from one of the new guys, like the Sony NEX 7.

Winning a prize would be great, but already have the onOne Suite and use it all the time.

  484. Joseph Zee says:

Great 100th show and hope more to come Happy New year ;-)

  499. Erica says:

    Hey guys!
    Great 100th episode!
Don’t know if someone mentioned this already in another comment but another way to use the 10 stop….
Imagine the Lincoln Memorial or any other busy location, it is almost impossible to get a shot with no people because there are ALWAYS people. If you use the 10 stop and leave the shutter open long enough with it, the people are generally not moving slow enough to be caught in the shot.

I think there is a way to cut people out in CS5 by taking a bunch of images and it will find and remove the changes, but here is a great way to do it without the post-production.

    Love the show!

  500. Rolando Garza says:

100th WOW! Been watching a long time.
