Great show, thanks for the inspiration.
Great show. I loved the discussion on lighting the background. R.C. the visual really helped.
Thanks for the link to Douglas Sonders, Always looking for great photographers to follow on Google+.
Any chance you guys could take a look at the new FJWestcott Apollo Orb and Strip? I’m looking at replacing my current softbox and umbrella setup but a little worried about the build quality of these ‘umbrella boxes’ as my current umbrella has gotten pretty mangled from a couple of falls.
Thanks
- Dave
I just had this lighting and background discussion with another photog…
Thanks for all you do to teach other photographers!
Where can we get bobblehead figures of the Photoshop Guys? I thought I had the only Vivitar 283 still working.

Interesting stuff
Good show, nice tips
Tried posting a comment & it tells me that I’m posting ‘too quickly, slow down’
What’s that all about?
Good tip on inside DSLR settings. Never knew about the “neutral” vs. “standard”, immediately changed and will look forward to seeing a difference.
Thanks!
Thanks, guys… love the basics, the guests, and especially the bobblehead.
Great show guys!!
Great show, i agree with RC, you don’t have to name your website as your name, you have to be memorable.
Background tip was great.

I love Thursday Lunch since that is the day of the next DTownTV episode. Look at pictures on Flickr I have notice that lots of people does not understand the correlation between Exposure, Aperture and ISO so that maybe a good topic for next episode.
thanks for the show guys! would you be able to talk about different types of tripod heads? I’m looking to upgrade my tripod and I want to know what the advantage/disadvantages to the different types of heads that are out there.
Thanks!
Nice job guys.
Hello guys.
Regarding Larry’s list, one thing that I would add to it : disable the demo mode (aka allow to shoot without memory card)
It will prevent very bad times, when returning from shooting without any pictures in your basket !!!
Bye from France !
– Vincent
Loved RC’s model!!
You guys got a real chemistry going on. Where’s Larry’s bobblehead?

Keep on coming guys.
Ha! Larry’s finally had enough.
Blame the monkey! indeed!
Great show.
I thought you were going to talk about the Law of Inverse Squares and light fall off.
Thanks for the show. I want a prize now.
Love the bobblehead RC,.. I loved Larry’s tip on NR,.. I used it for the longest time because I agreed with Brad, but that was a couple years ago,.. now with CS5 I should turn it off.. thanks for helping me get rid of that buffer sucker Larry!!
more awesomeness!
As usual… top notch tips and suggestions… already reviewing my camera settings from Larry. Keep it up.
Suggestion… how about some tips on macro photography with lights or flashes.
Great show as always.
The bobble head rules.
The info given on this show has usually cleared up confusion and answered questions.
I shoot with a D300, Larrys’ tip on internal camera settings has confused me. I always shoot in raw format, the settings that you recomend I thought would only affect jpeg images. RAW is supposed to be digital, (1′s and 0′s) computer language.
Do these setting influence RAW capture and output?
It would be fun to see a short segment of D-TOWN done in just bobble heads. LOL
Thanks for the lighting tip as I’m just learning to work with speedlights. Helps to see visually what works.
OK guys no criticism but why did you switch places? Hey RC great tip on the light and falloff made alot of sense for people .
Thanks
Keith
Great show guys.
Great tips on flash to subject and background difference. K.I.S.S. great tip. Good show.

No critizism, but you guys through me off by swtiching places

How about some tips on macro photography
RC, your first tip with the bobble-head and white background was very simple, but so helpful to understand how “light falloff” works. I’ve seen pictures and had it explained, but it just didn’t compare with your “diagram”. Thank you!
RC & Larry, great stuff. Thanks for The Monkey site.

Hi RC & Larry, I thought ALL the tips were brilliant this week!!…
Uhhh… bobble head….
Another great show. Thanks guys!
Hasn’t been much on processing lately. How about bringing Scott on to demo how to create the simulated double mat effects?
great show
Great show as always
Larry & RC ya know ya want me to win Scott Kelby’s book, “Shoot it, Light it, Retouch it” , or the DVD set!
Thanks guys.
Very nice BlametheMonkey.com, and the thing of the domain in the internet has really made me think!
Very good.
Great show guys! I think noise reduction does not actually reduce noise, because noise is random. It just removes the hot pixels. So in long exposures I think it is qite essential though it doubles the time you have to wait.
Great show as always. Keep it up!
Great show as usual guys
Great show! Love RC’s tip on using the white background.
Great Show!
Kelby Training rocks. Best thing for photographers on the internet. Looking forward to Doug’s new Training class. Renew or sign up now and save $20 for a year. Thanks for bring us this show.

Great show. I’d love to see more of Joe McNally.
Can you talk about white balance in night time shots. Thanks
Great show guys, and lots of good info, How about macro? Again thanks for the foto info, and Thanks 4 L@@KING.
Pictures to demonstrate the lighting effects would be great. If some processing is done in camera could it be still edited in Lightroom?
what about monitors for PS processing?
Great show.
Guys, love the show. Did you ever think of making a D-Town magazine? I’m sure you could rival Popular Photography and Shutterbug. Just don’t make it for the IPad as I don’t have one… yet!
Good show
Keep up the good work, guys. The KT posse is helping me get my photography mojo back.
I really like RC’s tip
The monkey made me leave a comment. He really needs a tripod for his iPhone.
Thanks for the show, look forward to it every week.
great tips from everyone
Great tip on backgrounds keep up the good shows
Kelby training ruined me watching other video web sites. Kelby’s quality of production and instructors is so high it makes watching other sites undesirably.
Larry, when are you going to write a book like all the other guys?
i do love your show, you guys are the best hosts around ! A great hug from Venice,Italy.
Thanks, very informative
Great show!
I like your tricks, I mean tips and tricks.
Great show and here is some criticism. Hey, comment leavers, how about using the spell check? You know, the little red line under the word you misspelled or TYP-Oed.
Speaking of which,,,my Android text feature doesn’t speak Hawaiian, where I live, so all my Hawaiian names, locations, words are GUESSED at by my phone and drive me nuts. Does anyone know if there is an override for AUTOMATICALLY Guessing at what I wrote? i.e. the island Kauai comes out Kayak????
Thanks for all the FREE and NAPP M’ship free info. And, sure, I’d love the dvd set or book, but don’t need the little tripod.
And PLEASE send a seminar staff member to Hawaii. We are LOST and Forgotten in the great void. alohadios, (my own word, so spell check goes nuts) Jock
Great show guys!
great tips
Bobble Head 2 Thumbs Up!
Great show
Another fantastic show guys! Lets see more on camera settings (7D) as I love to hear what others use. Just bought Scott’s new book Light it Shoot It, Process it. The foreword introduction was tremendous and th first few pages just great. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to use light correctly. Keep up the great work.
Malcolm (UK)
Good show, as always… quick tip to mix strobes firing through separate radio signals: Triggering BXRI main light through the shoe-mounted skyport and using a cable-connected Pocketwizard to trigger 580EX for background effect, both firing at the same time.
i’ve just started with my rebel 3ti , which i just got for my 50th birthday ,but i’ve been watching for about 3 months ….. awsome stuff
Great show!! Hope to see you guys @ photoplus expo next week.
Thanks for the lighting tip
Great tips!
Nice job guys. See ya at the photo+ expo
Thanks guys! Your tips are great and helpful for me!
Still love the bobble headed RC. BTW RC cola is my preferred cola.
Excellent!
Great Show
Hey, guys! I enjoyed the show. The light fall-off tip rocked. I’ve had lots of fun with that one with my wife’s Image Management students.
See you next time!
Michael
love the bobble head, oh hey pick me!
Hey,
I am still waiting for a one light in studio demonstration on lighting control.
Congrats on another GREAT show!!!
Thanks!!
Loved RC’s tip/insight on using a white background; the flexibility it provides, and the demo on the relationship between the flash, subject, and said background.
In a future episode, I’d like to learn more about using speedlights w/ bkgds – and how to choose the right background for your subject (ie muslin, velvet, linoleum, plexiglas, etc).
Thanks!
(was that positive enough, Larry?) ; )
Love the fact that you share your insight and expertise. Thanks!
Keep rockin’ guys. Love the tips. ffm
great show
Another great episode. I’d love to see David Hobby come back for more strobist basics.
another great show, thanks guys!
Great info on white background
Wonderful show as always! Learned something new, yet again. Quick question: Do color spaces in camera make a difference when shooting in RAW?
Very nice show, as usual!
Thank you guys
PS.
I second the question by Nikki Cayanong. Please enlighten us! Here is a respose for this question I found by “googling” the subject…
Does the color space that I have my camera set to effect how my RAW files are saved?
Unfortunately, it depends on who you ask and what camera manufacturer you are talking to. (I did a lot of research and talking with many people about this and was not able to get a consistent answer on this topic.)
Certainly if you are shooting and saving your files as JPGs, using the Adobe RGB color space is much better than using the sRGB color space. (Side note – if your camera will allow you to work in the ProPhoto RGB color space, then that is even better… more colors!) Some people I spoke with said “Raw is Raw” and it does not matter what color space because you because when you save out your file to a Tiff or Jpeg (for example) you can choose which color space to embed into your file. However, other tech support people told me that which color space you use DOES HAVE AN EFFECT on how your colors are saved in a RAW file format. This may vary between camera manufacturers. My advice is to “be safe” and go ahead and set your camera to Adobe RGB by default…. Or even ProPhoto RGB which is generally only an option on higher end cameras.
Time for Larry to break out the bobble head! Great show guys! Thanks.
Great!!! Fantastic shows!
Cool stuff, guys, thanks a lot.
Your tv show is just great, it helps us improve our art of photography and leaves us with great tips!
Thanks!
More on in camera settings, please.
Great inspiration! Super quality show!
Love the tip on lighting and background color control. The RC bobble head model is great. I want one! Information on bare bones camera settings was helpful too.
Great show guys.
As usual, another great show!
Hello. Great show.)))
Can you give some more wedding photography tips? That would have been awesome.
Thank you.
Great show as always! Love the bobble head RC used to demonstrate the lighting… We need more bobble head!
Would love to win the iStabilizer – Using my new iPhone 4S a lot these days for different shots.
Thanks, guys!
Comments about “what you would do” are great. Add to this by expanding to include “what Scott would do or what Matt would do” in order to include more variations on what an “expert” would do. Then us “non-experts” would have a selection of ideas to choose from.
No critique this week ????? Damned……
Love the show as usual guys!
me me me..
Hey Guys! Never any criticism from me. You guys always Rock! I’ve learned a lot from the two of you!
Enjoyed the show.
Wow, this show is getting more popular all the time. Took me for-ever to scholl thru the comments about todays show. Looking forward to more shows in the future.
Yea really, Larry were was your Bobble Head.
Later Guys got to go catch the latest episode of “The Grid”.
I love D-Town! Must have prizes!

Thanks for the tips on menu settings, Larry. All my D90 settings were based on Scott’s tips in the original D-Town series.
Again, Great show guys.
Thanks.
Great show,. thanks guys.
Very cool show again, thanks guys for putting in the time to make it happen.
Great show!
Thanks for the tips!
All Good Stuff this week..thanks
Purty dern good show . . . as usual. (You MUST be getting tired of reading this phrase!)
Re: flash-to-subject vs. flash -to-background ratios: some examples would have been EVER so helpful: Click. Click. Click. Done.
Oops, this is almost a criticism. Maybe I should save it ’til next week?
Oh, oh, too late, I already hit “Submit comment”
Really nice tips on the camera settings.. Blamethemonkey.com is one of my fav website.
RC, Cya soon in the hangouts…
Great show! Question to RC’s background tip. How much of a difference would it be using different type of lighting? Such as using a softbox, shoot through umbrella, reflecting off of an umbrella, octagon box, etc. Would the drop off of the light be greater or less using different lighting box/umbrella?
Larry, why do you use the neutral setting?
Great show guys. Love Doug Sonders’ work. He had a great tip with just building off one key light and not trying to do everything at once. Its a simple tip but one that’s often overlooked.
RC, Dean Collins would be proud of you!
Good show.
Loved the tip for changing the background.
Do you guys really get criticisms? You should not. I really think you guys are awesome!
I am from Singapore & I got to know your show from a friend. Since Oct/Nov last year, I have been watching every episode of d-town tv.
All I wanna say is ‘keep up the great work!’. Stay cool, guys!
Good show, look forward to next week
Good stuff.
Another show full of tip, thanks again guys
Thanks for the tip on sRGB!
I enjoyed the show. Question that maybe you could cover in subsequent show: I was told that for wildlife photography with a Canon 40D the best ISO is 640 and that there is a “native ISO” of 320. If there is enough light to have no problem with motion blur, is it best at the lowest IOS, for 40D, 100, or is it best at the “native ISO” of 320? Thanks.
Hi guys. I have been enjoying the show for a while now and it has seriously sparked my interest in photography again. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Nice show, Keep up the good work.
Great show! Thank you very much!!!
Great show. I loved the discussion on lighting the background. R.C. the visual really helped.
Thanks!
Hi,
Actually not so many news for me this week. The links to a photographer is always interesting though.
Guys…what photog doesn’t use the distance ratio tip..whether they know it or not..DAILY!! Another way to use that tip is to take a picture at a party. If you take a photo in the middle of the room with no background nearby…huge light fall off. Next to a wall in that room…boom bright background. Also..love, love, camera settings talk. Bring on more!
Great tips today fellas. The BG tip from RC will help a few people I know who are learning this stuff.
Well done catch you next week
Could you do some tips regarding on-camera flash? I know that’s a bit of a taboo subject, but Neil van Neikerk does some awesome stuff with on-camera flash, and for event shooters who don’t have the luxury of bringing lots of gear, it could be extremely helpful.
Great tip from Sonders and amazing work!
Great show guys, loved the lighting tip.
Like the photographer (website) of the week segment. The lighting tip was great as well.
Great show, thanks for camera tips!
Great show.
Great tips.
Great prizes!

Great tips as always. See you next week.
Great tips guys. Thank you!
Thanks for the visuals, RC! Great model! Love the show and look forward to it every week!
Great show!!! Actually this is the first episode I watched and I liked it very much!!!
I really like the links you guys find.
RC, great show and tell on lighting. One thing I have done in my classes to help is take a string and at a one inch to one foot ratio create a f stop range. We all know that if you set a light at 2.8 ft from a subject and move it back to 4 ft from the subject you get a one stop difference in light. Move it back five and half ft you get another stop difference and so on though the f stop settings (2.8, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22). With a string set with these markings (a piece of white tape) you can show the lighting difference for not only flash to background but flash to subject.
Great tip on backgrounds thanks!
iPhone stabilizer would be helpful.
Guys, as always, great show, great tips and Elia’s site is very cool. Thx
As ever guys, loving the show! Thanks.
Enjoyed the show. Thanks for the tips.
Vivitar 283s are still great.

Love the show guys. Can we have some more info on how to set up flashguns for different shot types and how the typical controls are used. Love the show.

I liked the discussion about srgb vs adobe color, etc. enjoyed Larry’s tips on camera settings. Would like to see more of those.
Thanks guys. Great stuff
good stuff guys! I appreciate the intel. I need to experiment more with color space. I tried Adobe RGB and it seemed like my colors weren’t as good, so I switched back to sRGB….I’ll try it again.
Enjoyed and am grateful for boh of your useful tips. Ths is still the very best thing on the whoe world wide web!
Thanx guys. Great show.

Chaps, why can I not get this episode on my ipod? Have you changed the format?
I am wondering that too. In fact, I asked the same thing several weeks ago but never got any answer.
Scott, RC, Larry, et al…. How about it? What did you change with the iTunes store distribution of the podcast?
Another great show. Larry had a good tip about turning off noise reduction. Just to add to what he said, it a
So slows down the time between taking photos while it is processing the image.
Keep it up.
Thanks for the lighting tip and Larry’s rundown on default camera settings.

A new item to learn each week ..
Hi guys! Love the show. I have a speed lite in my bag but hardly ever use it outdoors. What’s the best way to easily get it off camera during a photo walk (without using a stand) and which modifier is the most effective without being cumbersome. Thanks.
Thanks for all you do to teach other photographers!
Hey guys, I’m new to this show and hooked already! I want to say thanks for all that you put into this and my comment would be this:
