OOPS! I pre-ordered Matt’s new “Layers, 2nd Edition” with the expectation of receiving an autographed copy. Awesome show.
I gotta say, though…D-Town costs me a fortune. Thank GOD you don’t go over 2.8 glass (or worse, 1.4 primes) regularly.
Thank you for a great show and the tip on night photography. I’m definitely interested in the book – maybe the show could cover some tips on working with available light.
good show . Thanks for all the information you give us .

I know one of my presents (since I ordered it) is a 10 stop ND filter. Do you have any tips on how to choose your exposure when using one?
Great show Guys
Great show
Your show STILL gives me something that I can take away and apply to my photography. I have been watching since day one, but don’t get the chance to leave comments, so when I did, I made sure to stop by and let you know how great you all are. So with that said, I thank you all very much and will continue to support you all.
Great Show!
I just started listen to The Candid Frame and really enjoyed the interview with Joe McNally. I also liked RC’s interview too.

Just recieved my Light it, Shoot it, Retouch it book by Scott Kelby. And it’s signed. I am so stoked. I have been waiting for someone to do a book as good as this on lighting set up.
Also another great and helpful episode by RC and Larry. You guys ROCK.
Love the tips on shooting with Bulb! Trying to get into that and star trails.
As always, GREAT SHOW GUYS!
I think that Larry should send me a prize every week until he grows a mustache like RC. Great Show.
Great tips again this week, enjoyed the Ziser tip.
Loved RC’s night photography solutions.
Great show! Keep up the good work RC and Larry!
Hi
As a educator I found the Scott Kelby podcast really interesting. Touched on a few topics not that frequently discussed.
Noel
Thanks again for your show guys !
Because of you I learn a lot to improve my skills in photography AND in english
great tip on night picture
good show
thanks
Thanks for the tips. Big help.
Great show again. Thanks! I’m also a CandidFrame fan and I’m looking forward to listening to the interview with RC.
Terrific show, great tips.
Great show guys!
How about something on the Nikon 1. Just because it’s fun?
Went to the Candidframe and listened to the interview with Allia Malley. I’m originally from LA and it was so interesting to hear about her experiences photographing there. I learned about Kickstart and loved seeing her images of my home town that reminded me of how much more there is to LA than what we see on TV.
Thanks, as always, for turning us on to more resources. One could spend all the time online…Malley makes a good point, that at some point we have to turn the world off and just do our own work!
Small tip: If you are using the IR remote like the ML-L3 in bulb mode (I use it with the D7000 and previously with my D40). When you press it once it opens the shutter and then when you press it once more it close it. I find it very usefull, no strings attached.
Thanks for the tips guys
Hi. Its seems that links dont work
Great show. I am a light painter and I use a Canon. I heard RC’s tip on using an IPad for a timer. Does Nikon’s not have timers on the back when you use bulb mode? Just wondering.
Another great show. What about a show on tripods. Start with the small that you have used on the last couple of show and work your way up.
Great show. Thanks for the tips.
Great show guys! I have a question: I just got a California Sun sniper strap and I love it but don’t know how to carry it an a couple lenses around.
Do you have a suggestion on how to carry a couple of lenses while using the sniper strap?
Also I would like to see more bag recommendations on the show and on that note, do you have a recommendation on a sling bag where I can put a 60D, a 10-22mm, a 70-200mm 2.8, a 17-50mm 2.8 a fast prime either a 50mm 1.8 or a 30mm 1.4 and a speedlite ?
Gracias !
Hey guys, great show! Can i send you a cheashot?
Great info guys, I think I`m gonna have to start counting how many time RC says `phenomenal` lol
Another great show!
Yuz guyz duh bezt!!! How about some lighting tips for macro. Thnx.
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
show guys…….
Outstanding show.
great links and tips. Thands
Hey Guys, great show.
One better than RC’s tip…if it is possible…is that if you are really into long exposures, like star trails and such, the use of a shutter release equipped with an involameter is almost critical. It’s cheaper than an Ipad/phone,
plus it allows you to set it and forget it.
If you want a two minute exposure; set it for one picture at two minutes. press your shutter release to lock up the mirror…(if you want to go that route, I have found that when you are dealing with real long exposures, like your 50 second example, that the little bit of vibration has no effect on the final exposure)…then start the involameter’s start button.
If you want an hour of 45 second exposures; set your camera to normal shutter mode, set it for 80 45 sec. exposures and walk away…if you are alone, and the equipment is secure; go fishing, scout another location, get some coffee from your coffee pot that is setting on the camp stove…or go see what those photographers with ipads are up to ;-D then come back an hour later and it’s done.
Here is one from pearstone that is at B&H:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/690421-REG/Pearstone_RC_N1_RC_N1_ShutterBoss_Remote_Switch.html
Another good one to discuss especially with the long exposure angle from this episode, is capturing star trails. Is if it is better to have 80 short 45 second exposures or a one long one hour one (because of sensor overheating and battery life).
“Mama always said D-Town was like a bag of lens..you tune in cause you never know what yer gonna see…” Love the App tips guys!
Love you guys!
Thumbs up! Keep it up!
Good show!
Great show! Looking forward to practicing night fphoto shooting.
Nice show. I checked out Jeff Zoest’s website… excellent work. It’s was really worth the time. Thanks for the tip.
Enjoyed the show. Looking forward to more “how to” info. on Speedlights in the new season.
Great show as always. The little David Ziser tips are phenomenal–I can’t believe how easy he makes some otherwise challenging lighting topics.
How do you guys deal with white balance, pre-capture (I shoot in RAW)? I know LR has that cool WB eyedropper. Do you take a reference picture of an 18% gray card (or ?) then sync all the similar images? Outdoor shooting that way could fill 1/4 of a memory card with ref. shots on a partly cloudy day. And computer workflow gets really chopped up – sync 47 shots then reset and sync 63, and again sync the next 28. …That is IF you remembered to shoot a new reference shot with each passing cloud.
Great episode. I really like the lighting diagram app. Picking a cool or useful app every once in while would be a great segment to work in when appropriate.
Great stuff guys, and thanks for having David Ziser on with you.
RC, Is it OK to use a watch to time your exposures?
Iberienex Perrello is great. I think my favorite interview is with Jay Maisel, and then Scott Kelby. He is not interested in f stops, but the creative process and the photographers journey to get where they are.
Floof and run
p.s. The Moose “forest” Petersen add cracks me up. Do you think that nickname will stick? Forest Petersen.
Great show! I went to TheCandidFrame. I enjoyed the interviews with David Hobby and Deanne Fitzmaurice.
Hi Guys
Great tip about the Ipad, both of them are super.
Greetings from Denmark
could you talk about iso and noise settings for night photography?
Can u sho diferent settings for nightphotograps.
And Somers exampels
A much improved program. I do like the inserts from photographers.
Your tips are so timely. It’s like you read my mind on what I wanted to know. Thanks
First time watcher. Great show!
love the show….really glad to hear about the sylights app …that’ll help alot
thanks
Always something new. I love your show.
After watching for a 2nd time, I had to research the use of the Nikon ML-L3 (IR shutter release) for Nikon in bulb mode. The first press opens the shutter and the second closes it.
Started watching this show when it first came out, but got way behind. Spent the last weekend trying to catch up. Love this show!
Loving the show guys and thanks for the podcast tip, are there any more you’d recommend?
great show, keep up the good work guys
Great show and great tips, I use an old palm zire as remote control for my camera, and with cameras with wifi (I’ll love it to have one!!) onone software has DSLR Camera Remote.
I’m looking at moving into portrait photography from landscape photography and I’m looking at constant lighting softbox kits. Can you do something on the differences between constant lighting and speedlight set ups?
Looks like a great book – When Larry finishes reading it could you send it my way?
Just got to watch – great one !!
Good information. I just love sylights app.
Great show guys! David Ziser I liked your work and your tips!
Really enjoyed the show, thanks for all the great tips.
THANS SO MUCH FOR BRINGING TO US THE WORK AND WEB SITES OF OTHER GREAT PHOTOGRAPHERS.
I OPEN MY COMPUTER EVERY SATURDAY MORNNG AT 4:00 AM TO D TOWN TV
WHAT A WAY TO START THE WEEKEND
CAN’T WIT TILL I BUY THE NEXT VERSION OF I PAD AND USE THE APPS YOU HAVE SUGGESTED
can you give us tips how to photograph model at night time?
Followup:
I find I’m using DSLR Remote HD a lot, even outdoors, nights, for the extra bracketing control, and managing long exposures.
Love your show and the links . Is it true that both Nikon and Cannon DSLRs are built to last for a certain number of “clicks”? Also, suggest you do a show on how to clean the camera and lenses. Thanks!
Another great episode guys!
Great show as always!
Thanks for the show, guys.!
RC-Larry love DTown show and would love it more if you could explain these settings which would help taking better photos Assign Func.button -Assign preview button -AssignAE-L/AF-Lbutton. Hoping to get responce.
This was a great show, I never miss them and really LOVED that lighting Diagram App!
Great show.
Keep the good stuff coming!!!!
