i dont clean my sensor . but omg this alot of good info. now im going to start cleaning it more often :D thanks guys

  2. Clive davies says:

I do clean my sensor. I looked at the tutorial on Kelby training which gave me confidence to attempt it myself. It’s very worrying at first, but you get used to it. I live in Wales UK and Canon is located in London England, so it would take the best part of a week to send it off to be cleaned and get it back.
Love the show – keep up the good work!!!

  3. When I need my sensor cleaned, I take it to a nearby camera shop and let a pro take care of it. I’m worried I’ll make a mistake trying to do it myself and ruin my sensor rendering my camera useless. I pay about $50 bucks but it’s not something I have to do very often.

  4. Tim says:

I have had others clean my sensor. I may be willing to try it now. :-)

Great episode, the flash discussions in this season will be a don’t miss for me!

    Thanks Guys!

  5. fogpuddle says:

I have cleaned my sensor a few times, but I went through a service for a more advanced cleaning, mainly because it was at a special price at a local convention.

  6. joe myers says:

    great show larry and rc

  7. Andre Champagne says:

    Hi guy’s great show
Me I clean my sensor myself. bye

  8. John Havord says:

Welcome back, where did those 4 weeks go!

Haven’t had to clean my sensor yet, but when the time comes, I’ll be doing it myself. Don’t want anyone else messing with my camera’s internals :)

  9. DAVID ROSAS says:

I dont clean my sensor >I dont know how to clean my sensor <I need to have my sensor cleaned. I have a couple of spots in my photos but not always . I clean my lens but still have spots . I shoot with a nikon D40 I like it its lite weight and it takes good photographs ,I think .You guys are always ROCK .

  10. Lee Calkins says:

I have never cleaned sensor my self…always done by someone else…..but after seeing this (after I get the D-Town kit) I will be cleaning myself. And by the way GLAD YOU ARE BACK!

  11. Sean Medwick says:

Actually I think this has been the best and most informative show since RC an Larry took over. Nice job guys.

  12. Stephen Anderson says:

I have used the Visible Dust system for a few years now. It works great! A little intimidating at first, but fairly straight forward. Thanks for the review.

  13. Otto says:

Welcome back guys! Enjoyed the show. At first I was somewhat intimidated by sensor cleaning, but now I do it happily myself, as well as for my friends.

  14. Good to have you back guys.

I clean my sensor with a vacuum cleaner, works like a charm.

    Hello from Paris.

  15. Jim Ziegler says:

Enjoyed the show, and am looking forward the guests and speedlight tips.

As for sensor cleaning, I’ve never cleaned the sensors on my cameras, but when needed, will do it myself.

  16. Larry N. says:

I clean my sensor with a blow can, is that cool?

  17. John Ashmore says:

Yes I clean my sensor, great show guys.

  18. Libby says:

I haven’t cleaned my 7D’s sensor (yet), but I generally don’t change lenses in the field. If I really need a second lens, I might also carry my 40D. It all depends. I DO appreciate the information about sensor cleaning, including where to look for more information. Thanks!

  19. Awesome, awesome show. Looking forward to the new season. I will definitely look into that Adorama D-Town cleaning kit. The only sensor cleaning I’ve ever done, so far, is with a blower.

  20. Andrew says:

I never clean my sensor. You guys rock!

  21. monkeyinabox says:

I’m getting ready to clean my own sensor. There’s a previous D-TOWN episode with Matt showing all of the steps very detailed. Go back and watch that episode.

Love the Rogue products. Could always use more. ;)

Looking forward to more future guests.

  22. Frank Effrece says:

I have not clean my sensor, I check it and its been clean.

  23. Eric Boyer says:

My first camera I sent out for repair. Gone 6 weeks. I purchased the Visable dust system and have taken care of my own and friends cameras. No longer without for cleaning. Awesome show.

  24. Joe says:

I have never cleaned my sensor. But I am looking into the Adorama D-Town cleaning kit.
    Thanks
    Joe

  25. kc carlson says:

Great info, I leave the sensor cleaning to someone else, at least anything more than blowing air around.
By the way there are broken links in the summary.

  26. walt biegon says:

Great info, and I never go beyond the blower stage

  27. Jon says:

Great episode, guys! I have been lucky with my D300 – any time i have had dust on the sensor, the built-in cleaning mode has worked.
I also have a D70, and it was a royal PAIN to clean!
    Thanks again!

  28. Jeff says:

So far haven’t need to use anything more than a blower for cleaning.

The Rogue will look way nicer than those cardboard cut-ups that I have at the moment…

  29. John Ryan says:

after watching the Laurie Excel tutorial I started cleaning my own sensor

  30. Daniel says:

    Yes, I clean my sensor.

  31. John Swarce says:

Very informative show, guys! Best one yet, by far. I only use a rocket blower on my mirror, but seeing the visible dust system is making me rethink that. Thanks for the demo (and thanks Adorama for the bundle! Great idea!). RC, does the big bag get thrown in when you buy the complete cleaning set?

I love my Rogue Flashbenders. I have the two larger ones. The prize package this week would really compliment them! :D

    –John

  32. Ed Crabtree says:

No, I have not had to clean my sensor, yet. But in the future, who knows, might try it myself — after a refresher course in how to do it. thanks.

  33. Ramiz Fargo says:

    Great show. Thank you

  34. Bryon Wiley says:

I have not yet cleaned my sensor. After watching your instruction I’m getting braver. Maybe soon…

    –Bryon

  35. David Vaught says:

Welcome back! yep I’ve been cleaning my sensor since I bought my first digital camera. I also use the Arctic butterfly, Sensor clean (Green cap) and sensor swabs.

  36. Wilfred says:

I clean sensor myself, only with a blower and that’s enough for me. If I ever need serious cleaning, I am sure Artic kit will come to the rescue.

  37. RobC says:

I’m still timid about cleaning my lenses, so I definitely haven’t mustered up the courage to deal with the sensor, even though I can see dust spots in some photos.

RC & Larry – what do you recommend for low light shooting, like indoors around the house or at a party (not necessary dark like a club or bar, just not optimal lighting). Is a zoom like a 17-55 or 24-70 with the f2.8, an even faster prime like 50/1.4, or is a speedlight better?

  38. David Mayo says:

I have not yet needed to clean my sensor (rather new camera), but will when I need too. Did find a fiber on the mirror and got it off before it migrated to a more malicious place. Did that at a table in a food court.
I have over three decades of taking care of the microscopes and spectrometers in an industrial testing lab. A camera is not quite so intimidating.
Just found Dtown TV last week, love it

  39. John King says:

Great episode. I have not cleaned my sensor yet on my 7D as I have yet to see any visible dust spots on my images. Now that I have finished my first year with the camera, I think I will by the Adorama DTOWN special and see if there is any visible dust. Thanks.

  40. Don Wacker says:

I clean my sensor. Great show

  41. Jorge De Sousa says:

I clean my own sensor, for now.

  42. takeshi says:

I’ve never cleaned my sensor— i did not know about the tools that you can buy off the shelves. I may try that as I am beginning to notice more dusts on my photos…

  43. GM Miller says:

Welcome back! I’ve not clean my sensor yet.

  44. Glen says:

Enjoyed the show. Timely info because will need to clean my sensor.

  45. Gary Brackin says:

I do clean my sensors myself. In 1992, I always had my local camera store do it but no more. Now, love that Adorama has put a cleaning package together. I have all the pieces I bought separately, but that make the perfect gift for every photographer you know.
gary in Austin, TX ….I photograph women and have the best job in the entire world.

  46. Dustin says:

I will be cleaning my sensor myself for the first time next week. Wish me luck!!!

Great show guys, I love all the awesome tips!

  48. Martin Fife says:

Great show guys! Have to clean your sensor one time and you’ll appreciate the tips in your show.

  49. rick says:

    Hi
I don’t clean my sensors yet,but you make it look easy thanks
    rick

  50. Jim Gilliland says:

I have never been the one cleaning my sensor but after RC’s feature on sensor cleaning I am going to order my supplies and start cleaning my self and stop relying on others.

Great start to a new season,
    Jim

  51. Dave Reid says:

Haven’t had the need to clean mine yet but would probably seek outside assistance for the first go around.

  52. Dennis Behreandt says:

    Great show!

  53. ken campbell says:

My camera is pretty new so I haven’t tackled cleaning the sensor yet.

  54. Milt Anglin says:

    I clean my sensor.

  55. HenryH says:

Great show. One of your best yet.
Yeah, I’ve been cleaning my sensor for just about as long as I’ve been shooting DSLRs (5+ years). I’ve generally used a variation of the Copperhill Method (http://www.copperhillimages.com/index.php?pr=tutorials) along with a Giotto Rocket Blower. I also have the VisibleDust Loupe, though mine is a more boring black.

  56. Brian Horsey says:

Good to have you back. I have a kit and have cleaned the sensor on my previous camera. So far I haven’t needed to clean my current camera ‘s sensor – probably will have to now!

  57. Rayfus Jones says:

I have not cleaned my sensor, but after your presentation I might have the nerve to do so.

  58. Sara says:

Hey, couldn’t get any of the kel.by links to work. Is it just me?

  59. Lewis Johnston says:

I have never cleaned my sensor because the camera manufacturer has made it sound like a very scary, risky thing to do.
The videos that NAPP and Kelby Training have provided make it look much less scary.

  60. Daniel Lane says:

Hey guys. Just watched episode 88. Great info!

I have cleaned my sensor a few times, but now with that offer from adorama, I’ll be doing it much more often. After this comment, I’m going to order that cleaning kit.

    Thanks for everything!

  61. Mike Crone says:

I do clean my own sensor.
Glad to have you guys back for another season….

  62. John Humble says:

Now that i have seen this show I am going to clean my sensor.
    Thanks Guys.

  63. Nick Verbenec says:

I have never cleaned my sensor. I have watched the Kelby training video on it and it doesnt seem to hard, but I always send my gear in yearly for a checkup, so I just have them do it.

  64. Vince Rasbury says:

I have not cleaned my sensor yet but it may be coming soon.
Looking forward to the new season.

  65. Robert Norris says:

Hi Guys, Welcome back! The D-Town kit looks great I’ll be looking at that for sure. Recently transitioned to DSLR from my Canon AE-1 so my camera is pretty new and I usually have an all purpose lens (18-200mm) for most things so I didn’t need to clean things out yet. When changing lenses your tip, RC, about holding the camera face down is a must. I’m pretty sure I will not be eating cookies over the camera so hopefully I will not need extensive cleaning very often or at all! Good tips on lighting also, thanks Larry!

  66. I clean my sensors with only a rocket blower–been pretty lucky nothing has stuck. I change lenses a lot between bodies, storage and such. Get lots of dust and a blower has been pretty good but I think I will get a kit for a deep cleaning. Great show to start the new season!!!

  67. Bonnie Fiser says:

Glad your back! I clean my sensor, I got the VisibleDust products after watching Moose Peterson’s video “Cleaning da Gear pt2″, they work very nicely and the video was very helpful.

  68. Ray says:

Yes, I have always cleaned the sensors on my DSLRs and the only problem I had was the first time years ago with my D100. My problem was that I didn’t check the air bulb I used. After I used it on the sensor I discovered that the rubber inside the very old bulb had deteriorated with age and turned to a goo and small amounts of that goo was shot out onto the sensor. At that point I drove down to my local camera store and bought sensor swabs and cleaning fluid and a new air`bulb.

It took a lot of work and a lot of swabs, but I did get the sensor cleaned. After that I have always made sure my air bulb is in good shape before using it on the sensor.

  69. Craig George says:

Hey Guys, really good episode. I have only dabbled a little bit in that area, but don’t think it is as daunting or unnerving now as I thought! Gonna do it….

  70. Richard Mizuta says:

RC, could you show me how you create collages. Thanks!

  71. Greg says:

Another great show guys. Looking forward to next week.

  72. Jen Topping says:

    Good to have you back!
Re cleaning sensors: my camera is pretty new and so far my sensor is clean. When needed, I was planning to have my sensor professionally cleaned. Why? Because when it comes to messing with my sensor, I get a little nervous. That said, after seeing RC’s demo I just may go over to Adarama and buy the D-Town cleaning kit and give it a try.
Re this week’s giveaway…I would love, love, LOVE to be that special recipient! Especially after the monster week I’ve had. So pretty please, consider me – I’ve had my eye on that Rogue 3-in-1 grid ever since you two featured it several episodes back!
Please make my day…I could sure use it, and would be so ever thankful! : )

  73. Dazza says:

Yes, I clean my own sensors. Good show keep it up.

  74. David Christner says:

I appreciate the hints on cleaning the sensor. I learned a little more about the process than I knew before watching.

  75. Pascal H says:

I clean my sensor only with an air blower. I’m frightened to touch the sensor.

  76. Welcome back guys. I live about 40 minutes from Nikon on Long Island, NY. So I drop off my camera to them for the cleaning.

  77. Vladimir says:

Hi guys! I tried to clean my Nikon D90 once and I think I made it even worst, now I always give it to clean to NIKON service center. If you are beginner, better do the same!
Thank’s for great show as always! :)
    Vladimir, Latvia.

  78. John Richardson says:

Right now, I do not clean my sensor (I would have to send it to Russia for cleaning since there is not one here in Ukraine — as far as I can tell), I need to order the cleaning kit! Common…Russia for God’s sake!!

I am glad you are back!!

  79. Joni Järvinen says:

    I clean my sensor :)
Great to have you back on new season.

  80. Andy says:

I have cleaned my sensor once myself.

Check these Mentioned Links because they are not working for me.

  81. M Dawson says:

Great show, thanks for all the information and tips. To answer your questions RC, I generally clean my own sensor but periodically (every year or so) I take it to an authorized Nikon repair facility to clean it. All in all, it works reasonably well.

The best tip I every received regarding keeping the sensor clean was to blow or wipe off the mounting ring on the lens you were putting on before you mounted it. Really helps to keep some of that stuff from that lens getting inside the camera.

  82. Shaun White says:

I clean my own sensors with the Arctic Brush and I do need to buy new wet clean products. So I will be visiting Adorama.
Thanks for the very cool show.

  83. I try to use blower as much as I can, it solves my dust problems almost every time.

  84. Steve Bark says:

I try to clean my own sensor, but I can never manage to get it totally clean.

  85. Andrew clark says:

Hi great show . i have just got a d90 and i think that i would watch a video on how to clean it first.

keep up the good show, watch all the time.
    thanks

  86. Jim Neale says:

Welcome back guys. I haven’t had to clean my sensor yet… but getting close to needing it. Will probably have it done by an expert.

  87. Robert Martin says:

I have not cleaned my sensor yet, but with you showing how straight forward it is to do with the right equipment i will have a go myself.
Thanks for a great show and welcome back.

  88. Tony Ong says:

I have yet to clean my own sensor yet as it seems to be still clean.

Something I would like to know, for nikon’s CLS, what is the highest flash sync speed I can get? I am using a D7000.

  89. Ed Saye says:

Back in the day (Nikon F) you could not touch the mirror with a cloth or brush fro fear of removing the silver. Is that still true with the newer cameras? If so, maybe you could make that point on the show. Love the show keep it up.

  90. Deena Spector says:

Great show. I will only clean my sensor for dust. Everything and I am going to the local (we still have one) camera store.

  91. Piotr says:

    Great show!

  92. Mike Anatra says:

I clean my sensor very carefully .

  93. Glenn Hewitt says:

My camera store has a cleaning event twice a year sponsored by Nikon. That’s the only time I get my cameras cleaned.

  94. realistgva says:

I am very careful when I change my lens. After having found specks on my pictures I now clean the sensor after any long session or before important shots.
Same goes for cleaning the lenses which can get pretty dirty too.
My camera bag is always ready for an unplanned session

  95. Warren Donowho says:

    Great show!

  96. Paul Howard says:

Terrific episode guys! Just blew junk off my sensor for the first time last week! I’ve been too nervous to do more. This episode helped a lot; I may just have to try a cleaning now!! Thanks.

  97. Leo DeSouza says:

Great season opener. I have never really cleaned my sensor. I have a blower I use to remove dust and I wipe around the lens mount opening but that is as far as I go. I guess it’s time to clean my sensor!

  98. Bob says:

I never clean my sensor…if I do notice some funk in there I give it a few quick blows and if it doesnt clear up, i take it in and have someone professionally do it. I just don’t have the patience to clean it myself. Great episode. I really love this series and The Grid! Thanks!

  99. Jim Wells says:

    Great Show Guys!!

Yes I clean my own with the butterfly for a couple years now. Love It

    Jim

  100. John Vegas says:

Loved the show; cannot find the “D-town” visible dust kit at Adorama though. I link would be helpful. Thanks guys.

  101. R.x says:

I do clean my sensor but not too offen because my sensor is much more clean the tips is I try not to change my lens too offen and If I do i will try to find a clean place to change it. the visibledust website also teach us how to clean our camera sensor step by step. Anyway you guys are rock! I had learn all the tips from you guys and thank for teaching us so much!

  102. Andre says:

Welcome back! No I have never cleaned my sensor, but after watching this I think it’s time I did. I really should invest in the cleaning kit you showed. Thanks

  103. Great to see a new season starting. Yes, I clean my own sensor. It was a little nerve racking the first time, but now it’s easy. I just got into speedlights, so I look forward on hearing more.

  104. Robert C says:

I clean my sensor only before shooting landscape images as the exended depth of field makes all the dust bunnies show up quite prominently.

  105. Larry Robinson says:

I clean my sensor. How about something on ND filters.

  106. John Kirchstein says:

I have a Nikon D80 and a D300 – I clean both when needed, the loupe has made it easier to tel when that is…

  107. Lindsay McSweeney says:

Most photography books always tell you never to clean your sensor and take it to a professional. So I never have — I’m really glad you’re telling us to do so. One question — should you do it only when you think it’s dirty or routinely? And does that depend on how often you change lenses.

  108. Keith Schwartz says:

I clean mine but next time Im going to give it to Larry to hand off to Brad… Just kidding welcome back

  109. Leo Addison says:

Great Show Guys! I clean my own sensor, but i didn’t start cleaning it intel i watched the videos by Moose Peterson cleaning his gear.

  110. Gary Haley says:

I have cleaned my sensor(s) int he past. I haven’t had to on my 7D yet with its internal sensor cleaning.

  111. I clean my sensors just with the blower, didn’t need anything else sofar.

  112. Ken Hunt says:

Haven’t needed to clean a sensor yet. But the day will come and I’ll do it myself.

  113. Great show as usual, been cleaning my sensor since 2003, before the Arctic stuff came out. Used a cut up rubbermaid spatula, PecPads and Eclipse. =)

  114. Gordon says:

I don’t clean my sensor, I just buy a new camera-HA!. Seriously, I am going to try it for the first time. I’ll let you know how it worked for me.

  115. Bill Guy says:

Love the Cleaning info. I clean my sensor but I have 3 spot rule. I take a photo of clear blue sky and bring it up in ACR. There I look for the dark spots. If I find 3 or less I know I can correct for it in ACR on all the image with the spotting tool. More than 3 then I clean it. This way I only clean about once or twice a year and not once a month with the risk of damage to the sensor.

  116. RAY JUSTICE says:

I SEND MY D3S TO NIKON SERVICES IN NY FOR CLEANING…GREAT SHOW…GUYS

  117. Marc says:

I don’t trust myself to clean my sensor since I’m kind of ham-fisted. I would like to add, though, that the ExpoImaging Flashbender products are awesome. I use the large one with a flash on a lightstand when shooting OCF in place of an umbrella or softbox in windy conditions. Absolutely love it.

  118. Nice to see you again guys

    Thanks a lot

  119. Don Tingle says:

Ben lucky so far haven’t had to clean sensor. Own the visibledust kit. More on speedlights please.

  120. Luke Diep says:

    Great show…and welcome back…

I have the equipment to clean me sensors – but have not needed to yet. I will certainly try when time comes.

    cheers!

  121. Terry says:

Nice show. Good tips on sensor cleaning. And I do clean my own Nikon D200 camera sensor.

  122. peace gaddis says:

    wow great show

  123. Branko Gregov says:

Hi guys, fantastic show… lots of info… really enjoyed it. I also clean the sensor myself.

  124. Bob Thomas says:

No way, Jose. I let someone else clean my sensor and luckily I have a good shop to take it to.

  125. Will Howard says:

    ooooh….Rogue stuff…COOL.

I’ve had my 5DmkII for 2 years and I’ve never had to have my sensor cleaned yet. But if I did, I probably would do it myself. Just have to get the right tools.

In fairness, I leave my 24-70 f2.8L on most of the time, but do switch it up with my 70-200 f2.8L sometimes, but I’ve taken precautions to help prevent dust from getting into the camera – of course, I know it’s just a matter of time.

  126. j.d.hunter says:

I clean my sensor with the butterfly and it works great…

  127. John Content says:

I have cleaned my sensor myself on both my D70 and D200 and it turned out fine.

  132. Joan Josep Marcó says:

I’m very glad you are back, guys !!

  133. Hi guys. Great show ! I do clean my sensor. Most of the times a blow is enough. If it is not I carefully use a hoover. If that is not enough I pass a piece of microfiber cloth wrapped on a small laboratory plastic spatula wet with methanol on the sensor. I’ve been using this method for years on different cameras and with no problems at all.
    Thanks, Cheers !

  134. Hi guys. I clean my sensor myself. I think that you should show, how you can see if the sensor needs cleaning. I use an unfocus shot of white paper at f/22 to see if the sensor needs cleaning. BTW GREAT SHOW!

  135. Kevin Figueira says:

Yes I clean my own sensor. The process is very easy, but you have to pay attention to what you are doing.
By the way, good show today. Look forward to the new season.

  136. Brian says:

I do the light duty cleaning but anything heavy duty I take in to my local camera store.

  137. Josh Berg says:

I have never cleaned my sensor. I haven’t had a problem with it before. Other than the typical dust and so far I’ve been able to just blow it off. But if I ever need to I’ll be sure to re-watch this. Thanks!

  138. james says:

    great show! :P

  139. Cindi Poole says:

I have not ever cleaned my sensor, but after watching this show- I think I could. Guess I need to buy one of the cleaning kits.

    great show by the way

  140. Max Stier says:

    Great show as always!
I’ve dry cleaned my sensor a good amount but have never (yet) needed to do any wet cleaning. I’ll definitely use this episode as a reference when that day inevitably comes though!
Thanks for the work you guys do,
    -Max

  141. Robert Hilsinger says:

Great show. I clean my sensor.

  142. Mary Ann Frontera says:

Welcome back guys! The Speedlite kit would be nice to have.

I did not only clean my camera’s sensor with the Arctic Butterfiy and Quasar Sensor Loupe but I was also able to help clean my friends’ sensors too. I was afraid to do it on my own but it changed after I saw Matt talk about it on a previous DTown episode.

  143. Wayne Berry says:

Great show guys. I do clean my own sensor.

  144. Patti Couture says:

I’ve had my Canon 40D for almost 4 years and have had camera sent off for professional cleaning twice so far (4 – 6 week turn-around time each time). In between professional cleanings I just use a bulb blower which seems to do a good job. I haven’t had the confidence to do more than that but I will look into the tutorials mentioned in this episode and probably take advantage of the Adorama D-Town Kit offer. It is a major inconvenience to be without my camera for the month or so that it takes to have it sent away for professional cleaning, not to mention the expense.

Thanks again for another informative show!

  145. joe nieto says:

u guys have great learning tips,,,,I have not cleaned my camera sensor but plan on doing it myself,,,,keep up the great show/work

  146. Richard Eribes says:

The world is good now that you are back.

I bought all the stuff to clean my sensor, but I’m afraid to try it. How do I over come this fear?

Would like it very much if you guys would discuss whether it is possible to for go buying Photoshop and editing only with Lightroom and plug-ins like the NIK set.

  147. I clean my own sensor with Visible Dust products. They work great. Also use Eclipse Solution and Pec Pads for lenses and the exterior. Looking forward to the new season.

  148. David bryant says:

I have not cleaned a sensor before but will the next time its needed , great show once again glad your back .

  149. Ron Blair says:

I’m a little less intimidated now about cleaning my sensor.

  150. thom says:

good thing i don’t eat cookies when i have my camera in hand. had my d300s for over a year and haven’t cleaned it yet. don’t see anything on my images but who knows. great show guys.

  151. Peter l Barker says:

I clean my sensor when it is absolutely necessary.

How a about a segment on radio strobe triggers from “el cheapo” to “gold plated” and also GPS tagging of images same parameters

  152. Patrick says:

    Great show, thanks!

  153. steve gowan says:

great show! I clean my own sensor.

  154. Myles says:

I have yet to work up the guts to clean my sensor. Therefore I have not cleaned it. Even though I’m extra careful when changing lenses and such- it still looks like somebody sneezed on it. I should have it cleaned. Thanks for the very informative lesson.

  155. bill feigenbaum says:

    Hi.
Where did RC get that bag to keep all of the Visible Dust items in? I’d love to have one?
    Thanks!
    Bill

  156. Anthony Castelli says:

I never miss an episode. You guys are always full of information. I look forward to the next episode. I have a Canon 7D and I do clean my censor. Everything you mentioned in the video, I’ve used, I have a blower, butterfly brush, and the loop. I’ve tried the liquid cleaning suplies ones. They worked really well.

I’m looking forward to the next episode of DTown TV. Thanks so much guys.

    Anthony

  157. Nelson says:

Thanks for the cleaning tips. I have someone clean my sensor. I don’t feel comfortable cleaning it myself, but with the stuff from visibledust.com it doesn’t look that bad. I might give it a shot.

  158. Ray Tinnin says:

Welcome back. I’ve used Visible Dust to clean my sensor for years.

  159. gleb thaxton says:

    I clean my sensor ocassionally

  160. Jeff B says:

Over the last 4 years I have cleaned my own sensor. I’ve found that 99% of the time it only takes a blower to get it clean. Sometimes a sensor brush with a swipe. I’ve not had to do a wet clean even though I do have the cleaner and swabs.

I’m planning to need to do a wet cleaning in the next few days since I’ve said I’ve never had to in the past.

  161. Rob Taussig says:

I’m afraid to clean my D300s’s sensor .
I let the experts at Nikon clean it !!!!
This procedure was also done to my other Nikons (D100 and my D200) !!!
As for your show I find it very informative !!! Keep up the great classes !!!!
    Thanks Guys !!!
    Rob

  162. Steven Handler says:

Great show. I’ve cleaned by camera with a Rocket Air Blaster. It’s never been so dirty that I had to invest in anything else. Whenever I change lenses I always make it a point to go to a location that is somewhat protected and face the camera down. That is a great suggestion.

  163. Leonard Rall says:

I have always cleaned my camera’s sensors. Usually had to use the wet method on my Nikon D70. It required cleaning on a regular basis.

The auto cleaning feature on my Nikon D300 sensor has almost eliminated the need for me to clean it. When needed, I use the items included with the Adorama Visible Dust kit.

  164. Chris says:

Glad your back! I have “dry” cleaned my camera since being taught by a Nikon representative a few years ago. It worked fine for my D-40 and D-90. However, with my D-7000 I am considering sending it out for cleaning. It just won’t come clean for me.

  165. Marco gaspar says:

I love DTOWNTV. I’ve seen all episodes since the first one. Obviously, you guys rock! ;)

  166. DaniLew says:

Another great show, guys! I clean my own sensors but I use the Copper Hill kit.

Another thank you to all of KMG for providing me with a conference pass to PSW Vegas last week. I was blown away. I’ll see you in DC in March 2012!

  167. David Olshan says:

Love the cleaning tips. Welcome back guys.

  168. angel says:

GREAT show guys, I CLEAN my camera!!
I already have the supplies your talking about in this video!!!! I LOVE the Dust LOUPE….

  169. fritz meyer says:

Glad ya’ll are back. I have not gone beyond the blower stage myself but now I think I’ll give it a
    try, ffm

  170. Kenneth says:

    Awesome show guys!

I have not had to clean my sensor because it does not appear to be dirty(at least i dont see any sensor dust on my pictures) but i know what to do after watching this show :) .

  171. Sean Nicholson says:

I do clean my sensor. I used to be worried about messing something up until I watched the Laurie Excel tutorial last year and thought I would give it a shot. I bought the kit from Visible Dust and it is an expensive investment at first but well worth it when it is all said and done. I have never had much luck with the Arctic Butterfly though, it seems like I always have to do the wet cleaning with the special swabs. But at least I don’t have to drop my cameras off at Canon anymore.

  172. PatrickAalmans says:

    Love the show great tips

  173. Mike Zurynski says:

    Cool show as always…

  174. Rich Ramirez says:

    Hello Gentlemen,
Enjoyed the show and learned something. I need to clean my sensor and Thanks for the dtown discount at adorama. it will be well worth the money

  175. Chris Whitaker says:

Great show, love the focus on Speedlites. I’ve cleaned my sensor many times (Canon 40D) using Eclipse E2 and PEC*PADs – a little scary the first time, but easy to do and gets great results.

  176. Fred says:

Thank you for another great show!

  177. Danne says:

Starting to think about cleaning my sensor after this. Tanks for a great show.

  178. JOCK GOODMAN says:

This show is EXACTLY what dTown should be (and used to be). GREAT useful content.
Both of my main Dslrs have built in sensor cleaners which work pretty good. But after shooting 8 straight days of rodeo last July my sensor was COVERED in dust, I mean horribly. I used the bulb blower and Arctic Butterfly (mine doesn’t have the light) and Bingo! 98% clean. I rarely use liquid cleaners and only have the mops for the D300 size sensor. I haven’t yet bought the full size mops but I have used the smaller one in 2 passes (not recommended), but it worked OK. Thanks for a very helpful (even if I knew much of it already) show.
I’d like to learn how to use the White Lightning strobes with Pocket Wizards I just got for setting up at a sports venue. My friends on the mainland use them all the time, but I’m a beginner in this technique. For ex: mounting devices (my Ultra 1800s are HEAVY), wiring hookups, setting power ratios, setting up 2 channels with 2 sets of lights, exposure, metering or manual trial and error, recycle time, etc etc. Looks like a multi-part SERIES to me.
I’m interested in watching the Tony Sleep vid.
and please enter me in the contest. alohadios, Jock

  179. Chantal says:

I think it is scary to clean the sensor myself. Better let that sort of stuff do by a professional.

  180. JOCK GOODMAN says:

The Tony Sleep link didn’t work. JG

  181. Tom P Zachman Jr says:

Welcome back, missed you. I’ve been fortunate, in the 3 years I’ve had my D300, it has never needed cleaning. I check it on a regular basis and always as RC showed us. The auto-clean and changing lenses indoors or in the car if I’m shooting out in the field makes a big difference.

  182. Daniel says:

    Hey Guys.

Sensor – I usually get it done twice a year by a service centre, then in between these times I do real basic cleans myself.

Ideas for the show – would love to see something like 500px user of the week. Not sure if you could arrange something with 500px where viewers can put a tag on their site (such as ‘DTown’) making it searchable for you guys and us. Help build the community a little I guess.

Looking forward to the speedlight series progressing as well.

    Cheers!

  183. Francisco Sanabria says:

I do not clean my sensor . Nikon Service take care , its only two blocks away from my office!!

  184. I have cleaned my sensor, and I have also sent it in for cleaning. I think I must have cookies in mine also, because I have major spots that keep appearing.

  185. bennyd says:

I never cleaned my sensor, yet.
I have no indications to do so at this moment…

    Great show.

    Benny

  186. Shawn Highfill says:

    Cookies Cookies

I am still saving for a DSLR, so no I don’t clean my sensor. I think I will save up for a Brad when I get one.

    Floof and Run

  187. Keith Godwin says:

Have a 7D and have not cleaned the sensor in 18 months – about time I did I guess!

  188. Carol Clay says:

Love your show!! About cleaning sensors – I’m sortof a newbie and it scares me to even think about cleaning that thing.

  189. Hi guys, I have the arctic butterfly and it’s great. I’ve never liked blowers though, they seem to push as much rubbish back onto the sensor as they clear off!

  190. John Smith says:

Love your show! I clean my own sensor using the rocket blower, and eclipse with pec pads.

  191. Rick says:

Great show guys as always. And I do clean my sensor myself when needed.

  192. Mike says:

Cleaned my sensor. Pretty scary the first time. Harder still is to clean the view finder screen though.

  193. martin gillette says:

good to see you guys…i clean my own sensor.

  194. Jim Beardsley says:

I clean my sensor 3 ways. First with the sensor cleaning function on my camera. 2nd. With a blower like you showed on the show and third I send my camera in once a year to be cleaned. Now I’m going to try the DTown sensor cleaning kit. Thanks for the great info.

  195. Jim Beardsley says:

I clean my sensor 3 ways. 1st by using the built in sensor cleaning in my camera. 2nd with a blower. 3rd. I take it in and have it cleaned. Now I will buy the DTown kit and try cleaning myself. Great show and welcome back.

  196. Hi Guys!! I love the show soooo much!! I’m from Monterrey, Mexico just wanted to say your tips are awesome!! More cheap shots please! jajajajaj

    Two things.
One. I don’t clean my sensor myself. Afraid to break it. I take it to a photo repair shop and the do wonders!

Two. The links to the F*U Pay me and to Tony Sleep are not working… at least for me… Hope it gets fixed soon.

    Thank you guys.

  197. Jose Cotes says:

Just got a T3i and was helpful to learn how to clean it up when the times comes.

  198. Marc Hogan says:

Welcome Back! I’ve cleaned the sensor on my D80 a few times with a blower. I’m going to look into the Visible Dust system for future cleanings. Thanks for a great show!

  199. Wade says:

I watched Moose’s video on sensor cleaning and it inspired me to give it a shot myself. I haven’t looked back since. It’s not difficult if you pay attention.

    Great show. Welcome back!

  200. My current main camera, Nikon D7000, has built in sensor cleaning. But, I clean my D200 (and previously the D100 and D2Hs that I previously owned. And yes I use Visible Dust’s products – great products.

  201. JD Smith says:

Good stuff. This was a good episode, the only thing I would like you to add is when you say “only swipe the lens cleaner one way, never back and forth”, why? When you say “don’t do this” or “don’t do that”, please say why. I would like to know the reasons.

    Thanks guys!

  202. Kevin says:

I’ve only used a rocket blower, I’ve not needed anything more serious than that for cleaning so far!

  203. George Schneegass says:

You Guys are great. I do clean when nessary. One for cheap shots. Wallgrens or wallMart has a lED lighted small pocket 3X magnifier. Great to put in your pocket or bag, does a good job of viewing your sensor out in the field. Less then $ 10.00.

  204. Darryl Woods says:

Thanks for the info guys but I send my Cameras to Canon and have them cleaned once a year!

  205. Shaun S says:

I clean my lenses but have my sensor cleaned. Perhaps I’ll clean my sensor in the future, but it requires an initial investment.

  206. Rolf Karlsson says:

Thanks for the tips on sensor cleaning. Luckily, my D300 is still fine. But I was always afraid of doing anything myself with the sensor. Now I will probably give it a try when needed.

  207. Brian Metcalf says:

I’ve got the brush, loupe, and blower after watching Moose’s video about half a year ago and have been cleaning my own D700 sensor since. I am scared to death each time, though, because of Moose’s warnings about the grease surrounding the sensor. So far, so good. Haven’t needed to do a wet cleaning yet. Thanks for another fantastic episode! Glad the new season has begun! Still my favorite thing on the entire internet!!

  208. L J says:

Welcome back! Always enjoy your shows!
I clean my sensor. I use the VisibleDust Swab too!

  209. Ernest Lau says:

    Guys,
Great show! I like the new format and look forward to the new season.

I do clean my own sensor and was glad to see your point about cleaning the lens mount of metal shavings, etc. Moose Peterson also has great advice on how he keeps his equipment clean.

Look forward to more tips about using speedlights off camera. Can you cover the various options for off camera wireless control?

  210. Uwe says:

Good show. Wished the links would work.

  211. Eric Fetterman says:

Great content. I just use the “auto” cleaner, but when I look with a simple magnifying glass, it wasn’t up to my anal standards. So another little project to continue my rise to greatness, or at least above par mediocrity. Keep the good stuff coming for us hungry amateurs.

  212. John P says:

I’ve cleaned my sensor only once using a microfiber cloth and an air blower. I haven’t cleaned it with any of the other equipment due to cost. It would be great to have a full set of the cleaning.

  213. i do not clean my sensor. i sometimes blow the dust off. Great show guys

  214. Christopher McCauley says:

i blow out dust but if it comes yo major cleaning I take it to the shop. How often do you clean your sensor? Only when it get’s dirty?

  215. Rene Bollengier says:

I have cleaned it with a blower but have never touched it.

  216. PT01961 says:

The sensor cleaning presented here is way over the top IMHO. Only clean a sensor when it is dirty. You don’t need that expensive loop to inspect the sensor. You take two shots of different sections of clear blue sky or a white wall, then scroll between the tow photos on your computer monitor at 100% zoom. I use ACDsee Compare Image feature to view 2 shots. If there is blemishes in the same spot between the photos, then you need to clean your sensor. 99% of the time you don’t need to clean with liquid or even touch the sensor. (1) use the camera’s built-in cleaning feature and test again. (2) use the blower and test again, (3) use a soft camel hair brush from an art store and test again. (4) take it to a shop for about $25-$50. BTW: after 200K shots of baseball (changing lenses on the field) I have never had to do #3 or #4. #1 and #2 have always worked.

  217. Wilfredo Gonzalez says:

Welcome back guys! Great show. I do clean my sensor sometimes myself but I do take it in to have cleaned locally once a year.

  218. Alex says:

I don’t clean my sensor. So far, been lucky but if I needed to would use the products discussed on your show (add them to my Adorama wish list).

  219. Bo Svilling says:

    Yes I clean my sensor,
    Great to have you back.

  220. Christian says:

Love the show guys. Ive never cleaned my sensor.

  221. Matt says:

I was always afraid to get near the sensor. I will use a blower, but that’s about it. You talked about the different solutions that you would use, depending on the type of smudge you have on your sensor. How would someone who has never done this before, know the what type of smudge?

  222. Steve Prudhel says:

Awesome guys. Keep up the great work!

  223. Keith Maguire says:

Great Show. Never tried sensor cleaning – had it done once during a service.

  224. David N. says:

I never miss a week. Thanks for all the time and effort you and everyone behind the scene puts into the show!

  225. Yoram says:

    Great to have you back.
    The kel.by links are brooken…

  226. I tried to clean my sensor (did not have all the goodies you showed) and made a mess of it. I had to take it to the local camera store & they cleaned it.

  227. Gene Kimball says:

Regarding cleaning, I usually have mine cleaned as my vision is not that great. Great show and, possibly, I might be able to clean my own D700 sensor with the loupe mentioned.

  228. David Gibson says:

I have never cleaned my sensor, I rely on the in camera sensor cleaning element.
I am sure I should clean but am so scared about doing irreversible damage….more step by step instructions, perhaps on Kelby training would be good

  229. Steve Thompson says:

I clean my own sensor. Some of the link are not working today. (You tube)

  230. ward says:

great show guys! I clean the sensors on my cameras myself

  231. Htech says:

I clean my sensor, but only when it’s dirty!

Please check the links in the summary?

  232. Roger says:

I’d rather have someone skilled clean my sensor. I’d probably bugger it up. If it can’t be cleaned by blowing air around then the local shop will do it for about $30 bucks. That’s a lot of cleaning for what the kits cost.

  233. Paul Michali says:

Great sensor cleaning info! I haven’t cleaned mine yet (had it for 1 year), but will need to start getting the stuff to do it. Very timely topic. Thanks!

  234. Ryan Neufeld says:

I don’t clean my own sensor, but I haven’t had a need to yet. I usually only seem to get dust on my mirror and a blower will typically solve that problem.

  235. Ole says:

Thanks for all the splendid tips, I get my sensor cleaning done a friend.

  236. Linda Ralston says:

I so need to get the sensor cleaning kit! Never have cleaned mine,. And it sure would be nice to win the Rogue flash grid, gels, & flash benders!!!

  237. Björn Lundgren says:

I clean the sensor by myself with a blower and (very seldom) dry, charged nylon brush,
    Great ahow, thanks!
    Björn

  238. Shawn says:

I have never tried to clean my sensor. I looked at it once and it frightened me to even think about blowing it.

  239. James Fairhurst says:

Thanks for the links to Tony Sleep and Mike Monteiro. Valuable information. Especially for someone like me who is really just starting out. I’m never sure how to approach the subject of fees but these two links helped. Cheers!

  240. Hank says:

Have sent my camera out for sensor cleaning in the past as I do not have the confidence to clean it myself. Is it a safe process for the “first timer”?

  241. Shawn S says:

I do clean my own sensors. Fantastic episode!!! Wish I would have seen this a few years back when I was trying to figure out what I needed and very nervous about attempting the job myself. Not so bad once you see and understand what is involved. But I’m still VERY careful when poking around inside my cameras!!! I pretty much ended up with the exact set up.

Also kind of the same deal starting out with flashes.

You guys do a great job making it easy to understand and help in getting pointed in the right direction!

    Keep up the great work!

  242. Brett says:

Very cool episode. I haven’t had to clean my sensor yet but know I will look into it with some confidence. Moose Peterson also has a great series on cleaning. Thanks for the flash tips.

    Glad to have you back.

  243. Jono says:

Great show guys as always. I clean my own sensor, regularly with a blower and once in a while with a wipe. I check for dust by taking a photo of something bright white (like a computer screen) at f22 then take a look a the picture on the computer and bump up the contrast. Shows up all the dust.

  244. paul stadler says:

I appreciate the tip and instruction on cleaning the sensor. The packet is pretty expensive that you recommend.

  245. Chuck Sider says:

I have NOT cleaned my sernsor on my Nikon D80 ever . . . . almost 5 years,

    Great show.

  246. IraE says:

I use the rocket air blower to clean tne sensor.

  247. Greg Snider says:

Great show. Welcome back. Love the techniques on speed lights.

  248. Philip says:

    i dont clean great show

  249. HR says:

I have not cleaned the sensor in my D70 and will have it cleaned by professional, as I do not feel comfortable cleaning it myself. Glad you guys are back for another season!

    Thanks,
    HR

  250. Kathy says:

Great segment! I have never cleaned my sensor nor have I had it cleaned by anyone else. I don’t change my lens too often so it isn’t exposed to the elements very often. I am going to check out the d-Town kit at Adorama though. Glad you guys are back!

  251. Alex Chen says:

I rarely clean my sensor. when I do I do it my self.

  252. Robert Dean says:

I clean my sensor but try to keep the sensor clean by being careful when I change lenses. Love your show.

  253. Eiter Reyes says:

Love this segment, I haven’t cleaned my sensor as the camera sensor cleaner does a fantastic job. If I had to I would not hesitate in doing so. I’ll check out the kit you described.

  254. Chris J says:

Haven’t had to have my sensor cleaned yet. When I do I don’t know if I’ll do it myself. Still a little nervous about cleaning it myself even though I’ve watched the video at Kelby Training.

Would like to see some episode on using NX2

  255. Foto-maxl says:

Yes, i clean my sensor! But! Im still waiting for two years till im trying the first time. Its not as hard and destructive as i thougt first… Try it. Its very important, that you are looking such shows as dtowntv for information! Thank you… Greetings from austria. You guys are awesome! ;-)

  256. Craig says:

Im chicken. I clean with a bulb blower. If it gets real bad I have it done (so I dont screw something up).

    Great show guys

  257. Eric Smith says:

I do not clean my sensor,

  258. H.Volker says:

thanks for your commentary.I leave the claening to a professional

  259. I have wet cleaned my Canon sensor before. Despite being yelled at by Canon Professional Services, it went fine! I just couldn’t be without my camera that long. :)

  260. Russ says:

    Guys, good tips! Thanks!
I wonder if there is a chance to brake or scratch sensor? Why would I ask someone to clean it for me if it’s so simple?

  261. Alex Morgan says:

Hi Guys, I’ve always been too scared to touch my sensor. I think i’ll give it a go….
Are they tougher then the repair shops lead you to believe ?

    Great Show..

  262. Rick Mayo says:

Yes, I do clean my own sensor. I learned to clean it right after I bought my first digital camera a Nikon D100. I now train other photographers at camera clubs around my area how to clean their sensors.
Thanks for great information which many times I pass on to my fellow camera club members.

  263. marcus says:

After realizing that for what I was paying for two cleanings I could buy all of the stuff I’d need for a dozen cleanings, I started cleaning my own sensor. So far, it’s worked great and saved my a lot of money.

  264. marcus says:

Oh, and now that I’ve posted that, I have a recommendation. You need an AJAX comment submission form like this one: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ajax-comment-posting/ so that the video doesn’t start over when I submit a comment before the episode is finished.

  265. Joseph says:

Unfortunately, I don’t have a DSLR at present, so I CAN’T clean my sensor. My lens doesn’t come off! I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC=FZ50. it’s pretty close to a DSLR without actually BEING one.

One problem I DO have i cleaning my filters. I clean using a spray fluid and a microfiber cloth. Ideally, I do this where there is some light so I can actually see if the filter (or lens) came clean. Sometimes, though, THINK it’s clean, and later see a film on it that takes another cleaning or two to get rid of. Ideas? Thanks!

Oh yeah, I know…. get a DSLR! I’m working on it. Just need to figure out whether a DX type sensor is good enough (probably better than what I have). Or should I spend the extra dough and go full-size?

Keep up the great work! I learn something every week! Oh, Larry, I made my own Cheapshots model flash defuser and pop-up flash defuser. Thanks. Using the black side of the report filter, I plan to make a tube to aim the light, once I can get my hands on some velcro.

  266. Jim says:

I have never cleaned my sensor, but after your show, and a couple other podcasts that covered the subject, I’m not afraid to do so. I’m anxious to check out your kit at Adorama.

  267. Garrett Hayes says:

    Grerat show again.
Clerane my sensor once, when I had a D70. Now I got to my main Nikon dealer!

  268. Rich E. says:

The info on sensor cleaning was great because the idea of doing that is pretty scary to me. Another great show Larry and RC!

  269. Douf says:

Great info on cleaning your sensor. I have bulb blower in my three camera bags. I only neede to have my sensor cleaned once by a lab. RC thanks for the sensor cleaning tip.

  270. Joel says:

    I clean my own sensor

I clean my sensor, me & only me :)

  272. ARKreations says:

    Welcome back – Outstanding show!!
I clean my own sensors with a Rocket Blower and the Copper Hill system – all supplies cost less than a single cleaning at my local dealer in less time than it takes to drive there!

Would love to win the Rogue stuff!

  273. Thomas Bero says:

Have never cleaned my sensor yet but when the time comes I will clean it myself after watching how easy it is to do on D-Town TV.
    Thanks

  274. Fernando says:

Until now i haven’t clean my sensor but it seems risky but i will try. Thanks guys.

  275. John says:

After spending waaay too much time cloning out spots on sunset and sunrise images, I bought a blower and it seemed to work. Yeah!

  276. Dwight Reid says:

Love the show! Especially tips on keeping my equipment up-to-stuff.

  277. Kathy says:

Haven’t had to clean beyond the blower stage yet…that I did myself. When the need arises I may attempt it myself, after watching a Kelby Training video first. Thanks…your show is awesome.

  278. seth goodman says:

I clean my sensor, but not often enough!

  279. duaneg says:

    Excellent show

  280. Joe Spoto says:

I clean my own sensors & I usually watch Laurie’s video on Kelby training as I do it.

  281. The nearest camera store is 20 hours away and there’s only 2 stores worth a darn in the state of Wisconsin. So I normally wait for one of them to have a “bring your camera in and we’ll clean it weekend.” Great info on speedlights guys..you can talk abou that all day. I use the tips from Dave Black from his Kelby Training sports shooting series A LOT. Where you use hi-speed sync in bright sun. I zoom my SB-900 to 200mm for midday/afternoon sunlight…

  282. Charles says:

So far, never had to clean sensors, but I am very careful when I switch lenses, get everything ready before hand.

  283. Eckhoff says:

Well RC, i do not use my body as a table for eating my lunch :-) but i also don´t clean the sensor myself. i go to my local photo shop and paz him to do it. its not alwazs a cheap waz to do this but im so scared to do this wrong. A good tip on the blower though, RC. Thanks.

    Greetings from DK

  284. Stiwwe says:

I only did dry sensor cleaning with blower & brush until now, but there’s a little smear from the last brush swipe which calls for wet cleaning. I’ll probably start with the visible dust solution and later try the cheap version with Q-Tips. Enjoy with your cookies…

  285. Sam Fifer says:

I clean my own sensor. It is recommended that you wet clean your sensor every six months.

  286. john says:

    you guys rock!!!

  287. Bernie Doran says:

I clean my sensor. If the bulb/blower doesn’t get it I use “Dust-Aid”.

  288. Michael Grindley says:

I’m sure my sensor needs a good cleaning! But all I have done is use the blower to get the big obvious stuff.

  289. Josh says:

I have never cleaned my sensor, I always change lenses with the sensor facing down.

  290. Michael Vinson says:

I clean my sensor whenever I see dust spots on my photos. Honestly, I haven’t cleaned my sensor in maybe 3 months.

    Cheers!

  291. Vic Schmeltz says:

I just began cleaning my own sensor a couple of weeks ago. Quite an adventure for sure!

  292. John Schultz says:

Great show guys, RC I do clean my own sensor, but I use Delkin Devices Thanks

  293. Melissa Odom says:

I do clean my own sensor – usually it just takes blowing it out but I have a sensor swab tool, eclipse cleaning solution and pec pads. I only clean it with the sensor swab when a test shows there to be gunk on it. :)

  294. Thanks for the tips on cleaning my sensor. I watched Laurie’s videos and now am confident enough to clean my sensor whenever I need to. It sure beats dropping it off at the local store and being without the camera for a few days. IMPORTANT tip – use the swab one direction, one time, then flip to other side and repeat. DO NOT REUSE a swab.

  295. Ryan says:

    Once again, another great show!!!

  296. Jerry Esh says:

I get someone to clean my sensor for me.

    Great show (as usual).

  297. Mark Sherman says:

Giotto’s Rocket is essential.! So much better than these small bulbs. Blows those cookie crumbs right outa there!. Great show!

  298. Greg Anderson says:

I’ve cleaned my sensor once when it got bad, and managed not to destroy it. I’ve probably jinxed myself now. *sigh*

  299. Kris Olsen says:

Welcome back. I do clean my own sensor. Vert scarry at first but getting better,

  300. I clean my own sensors but not as frequently as perhaps I should. good show.

  301. Jim Wall says:

I’ve cleaned my own sensor a couple times, once a disaster, the next with a little more experience! :) Thanks for the show guys!

  302. Steve Vansak says:

Looking forward to another season of D Town. I’d love to see an episode on all of the new mirror less cameras such as the Oly Pen and the Panasonics, etc. Thanks.

  303. Gary Britton says:

i clean my own sensors now.

    Great show!

-Gary – watching from Denmark :)

  304. Peter L says:

The first time it needed cleaning, the camera body went to Nikon for a well-needed all-round cleaning. Second time, I did it myself. Didn’t need to wipe it, the Arctic Butterfly brush did the job. Now, my new camera-body is at Nikon (and they can clean it while it´s there) after a sudden free-fall accident at PSW…

Tip to everyone: don’t ever touch the tip of the Arctic Butterfly brush. It’s supposed to be clean and should under no circumstances be touched with greasy (normal) fingers.

  305. Thomas says:

I look at every show and I love them.
The tip with the magnifying glass is really great.

  306. Thomas says:

I look at every show and I love them!
The tip with the magnifying glass is really great!

  307. Martin says:

Great show, you guys rock! Question: the 14-24 lens, what would you suggest to clean the actual lens? Best products/method to avoid damaging the coating..

    Thanks,
    martin

  308. Steve says:

I clean my own sensor. I had a professional friend help me the first time.

  309. Larry Travis says:

I have not cleaned my sensor………yet
    Thanks for the timely info

  310. Lrosen says:

the guarantee that came with my camera incl. annual cleaning fo a couple years… plenty of time to get brave, but seeing this episode did give me confidence … and who knows, I may need to give it a try sooner than I think.

  311. Bob Burns says:

I bought an Arctic Butterfly when they first came out. It’s a great tool. I do clean my sensor and others too.

  312. John N says:

Have been pretty careful when changing lenses so have only used the camera’s internal sensor cleaning function.

  313. Donald B Miller says:

Another great vid for a beginner dslr user like me.
I’ve only had my camera for 3 months so I haven’t cleaned it yet. These videos give me confidence to do it when I finally need to. Thanks. DBM

  314. Markus says:

Hi guys, i love your shows but this is the first episode which I cannot view with my iPad2. Did anything change? I tried different browsers but the play button is alway missing. Is there a trick to view the new episode 88 on the iPad?

    Markus

  315. Harry says:

I, too, clean my own sensor. Most times it takes more than one sensor swab and they are a little pricey. This was a great show and I look forward to another great season.

  316. Edibro says:

I do not clean my sensor although I just might after seeing how easy it can be.

I would love to see more actual shooting videos and even maybe some assignments to all shoot together and maybe even post.

I am so glad you guys are back! Seems like forever! hahaha

  317. Bob Moore says:

I enjoyed the show…. I don’t clean my sensor… but the information inspired me to start doing it. However, I went on Adorama site for the cleaning kit… I’m thinking it will cost in the $20 range… especially with the “special” they’re putting together. Good grief… it was $230! Took my breath away. Maybe after my shock, I’ll explore the topic more, but for now, I’m still trying to get my pulse back to normal.

By the way, something I think might be helpful is to share, periodically, training workshops… For example, I was made aware of Ian Plant and Joseph Rollback… both have very interesting workshops in places like Smokey Moutains, Grand Tetons, etc. ranging from a few hundred dollars to 12 or 13 hundred.

  318. Bruce Press says:

Thanks for the tips on cleaning. It is exactly what I’ve been looking for.

To date, I haven’t done anything but blow out the sensor with a bulb. I, like many, are a little anxious about cleaning the sensor.

  319. Joe Levine says:

Hey guys, glad to see you back, I sometimes clean my sensor but not as in depth as you just showed, thanks for a great informative show. Hope I’m not too late for the drawing.

    Take care,
    Joey L.

  320. Martin Shipps says:

Yes, I clean my sensor, but only when I can see visible imperfections on my pictures.

I would like to see an episode on using wireless flash triggers.

  321. Harry says:

I also clean my own sensor. Don’t like doing it but it’s less expensive then the people that do it professionally with similiar results. Great start for the new season.

  322. Kevin O'Brien says:

I have never had to clean my sensor. I may be willing to try it nowThanks for the great tips! Keep it up!

    Tahnks
    Kevin

  323. Edward Levy says:

    I’ve never cleaned a sensor.

  324. Dave Moore says:

    Great show!

  325. Ron Weikle says:

I’ve been cleaning my own sensor since the D70s came out. Another great show………

  326. chuck says:

i clean mine – while i hold my breath

  327. Michael says:

    Great show Guys!
    Not cleaned my sensor yet

  328. Jesse Kunerth says:

I have the blower but that’s as far as I’ve gone cleaning my sensor. Thanks

  329. Bryan says:

I use a blower from time to time, i have cleaned the sensor myself once and had it done at trade shows a few times but it’s not a big problem even though i change lenses quite a bit

  330. Bill Haines says:

Going to order my D-town kit now.

  331. Dan says:

Bought the arctic butterfly & loupe 6 months ago with sensor swabs; so do my own. Thanks for another great show!

  332. Yosuke Kato says:

    Another Great Show !!

I really really want try Upstrap, but they won’t ship to my country.

I don’t clean my sensor, I live near Nikon Service center, so when I notice dust on my sensor I always take to service center. It cost around $15 and take about 1.5 hours.
I wish I can clean my own sensor, but I’m too scare of cleaning.

  333. Michael Pachis says:

    don’t clean my sensor, yet.

  334. Allen Tucker says:

The first time a sensor needed cleaning, frightened by the manufacturer’s warning,I paid to have it done at a camera shop. Now I clean them myself. Simple precautions while changing lenses seem to prevent the need for frequent cleaning.

  335. m35g35 says:

I have the rocket air blower to clean the camera. After that I will let someone else do it.

  336. Thomas says:

Until now I’ve never cleaned my sensor, but I’ll do it in future.
The tip with the sensor lupe is awesome.

  337. Dave Clayton says:

Hi chaps – great show as always, the cleaning thing was a great help for me as I need to do this. I have a local company here in UK that specialises in camera cleaning products http://www.cameraclean.co.uk/Sensor_Swabs.php if anyone wants to look them up. They kindly donated 50 sets of lens cleaning cloths for our Oxford Photo Walk :)

  338. Matthew says:

I’ve used a blower on my sensor but that is it. Glad you guys are back.

  339. Alex B UK says:

Love the show, and I clean my own sensor.

  340. Matt Millard says:

I’ve never cleaned my sensor, but really need to get it done soon.

  341. Andre Hughes says:

    Hi,

Great show again. I have always been afraid of cleaning my sensor but hopefully, I’ll give it a try with your later show.

    Thanks!

    André

  342. Alvin Banlaygas says:

I usually send my camera for cleaning but hearing this cool visual dust cleaning kit. I’m encourage to do try clean my DSLR camera sensor by my self to save time. Nice episode cheers.

  343. Alvin Banlaygas says:

I was encourage to do clean my own camera sensor knowing this amazing cleaning kit from visual dust.

  344. Jim Quinn says:

I have watched the Kelby Training video
on how to clean my sensor, but I have not yet needed to do it. I bought all the Visible Dust materials, and I’m ready to give it a try.

    Good show!

  345. Luis Sales says:

Welcome back guys! Another good show… Yep, I do clean my own sensor… Easy to do with the right tools…

  346. J-P Lee says:

Great show! I don’t clean my sensor – probably should. The visible dust kit is a bit too pricey for me. I’ll just start out with a rocket blower.

  347. Elmer Sparks says:

Historically I have taken my D300 to the local camera shop for cleaning, however, I now feel better about tackling that project on my own. I will do so on the next occasion.

I would like to see some more discussion on speed lite operation….

  348. Bryan says:

Thanks for your show. I clean my sensor after I notice the dust or before I do something important.

  349. lev radin says:

that’ nice you started to talk about small flashes. Please continue. As per sensor cleaning, I don’t do it myself, send to Canon twice a year.

  350. John says:

Great to see you back guys. I don’t clean my sensor, I’m afraid to scratch it. To be honest buying a new camera is a better way to go than cleaning the sensor on my own, I leave this work to professionals.

I have a question about metering and AF. When I’m using Spot Metering and choosing 1 exact AF point, will a camera meter from the center of whole scene or from the point I’m using for focusing?

  351. Mark Jansen says:

Great show, and yes I do clean my sensor myself. I don’t let the muck build up too much…

  352. Guys—

I do clean my sensor. At least as far as blowing it out with the blower bulb. I always figured it was more serious, I would either let my local camera shop do it, or send it back to Nikon

  353. Gary M. says:

What would I do without the Arctic Butterfly. I never leave home without it.
    Love the show.

  354. Jason says:

You guys are awesome! I have not cleaned my sensor yet. I am somewhat intimidated by this process.

  355. RIck says:

What did you change on the posting of the show? I can no longer view it on my Ipad.

  356. tim martin says:

    Great show as always.

  357. PD Taylor says:

My camera is relativly new so I haven’t cleaned the sensors…yet.
    Think I’l order the kit..

  358. redhed17 says:

I was surprised that you talked about different types of sensor cleaning liquids, (how do you know which to use?) as I have only ever heard of using one type, usually Eclipse. That was until I watched a little longer and saw the tie in with a retailer to sell the stuff. ;-) lol

And just swiping the swab one way? Every guide I’ve seen says swipe one way and then the other. It can be wasteful enough already without using 50% more swabs.

I went for years just with the Rocket Air Blower being all I needed to clean my sensor, it wasn’t until I had some dried liquid (spot looked like a donut) that I had to resort to Sensor Swabs and Eclipse Fluid. For the cost of 1.5 professional sensor cleans, I can buy the gear and clean my sensor 20-30 times.

My tip is be careful not to push the sensor swab laterally as you swipe the swab over the sensor. You can scrape a lot of stuff off the ‘lint free’ swab that way. ;-)

  359. Hi Guys

Im a little afraid to clean my sensor, so atm im only blowing dust out of the camera body like you showed, But im deffently getting that artic butterfly.

    Thanks for a great show

  360. I have attempted to clean the sensor once but smudged it more than clean it.
Was not aware of the different liquids for different issues. I will probably try it again.

    Amazing point to payment stuff…

  361. Martin G says:

Similar to redhead17 above, I went for years just using the blower method, but when I found some bad oil spots, I went with the visible dust swabs. I had always been scared to do this myself, but it turned out that it was very simple to do and not really a big deal.

I also use each swab twice. Once each side of the swab, as directed in the manual.

  362. John says:

I’ve cleaned my sensor just once. So far, I haven’t really needed to do it again – yet.

  363. Don McKay says:

I clean my sensor as well , most times the blower will take care of the dust.

  364. Jeffrey Maye says:

To answer the question of: Do I clean my camera sensor? I shoot with Olympus cameras (E3 & E300) so in the last 7 years I have not needed to clean my sensors at all, although I did need to wipe off the mirror on my E-3 once. Hopefully this will continue in the future, but you never know.

  365. Gary Forner says:

I clean my own sensor. Oops, need to do it again.
    Thanks, guys.

  366. Lisa Gott says:

Why is Episode 88 not available on the web site?

  367. Richard says:

I do not currently clean my dslr, but after watch the show it maybe something I would be happy to do going forward.

  368. Gene Nemeth says:

    I like that artic brush

  369. Kevin Orr says:

I don’t clean my sensor. If/when it needs it, I will take it in to the local camera shop. Dtown is a great resource. Keep up the good work!

  370. jvelarde says:

Afraid to clean my sensor so I bring it to my local camera shop.

  371. HapZungLam says:

I dont clean my sensor myself unless I have a chance to practice with an garbage camera. I simply send it to Nikon for sensor cleanning. They charge around 50-60 dollars CAD but I dont have the confidence to touch the most valuable part of my camera.

  372. Steve Eshom says:

Thanks for confirming how good the Arctic butterfly is. I clean my sensor with sensor swabs and Eclipse fluid. It has worked fine but having something to just sweep off the bits would be quite handy.

  373. Ben says:

Nice short on cleaning. I generally will just try and shoot with one lens. When I do feel like switching focal lengths I either sit in my car swap lenses, or if the camera bag has enough room, I will use the bag to shield from dust and sand, rain etc

  374. chi yu says:

I cleaned my sensor by myself after watch youtube .

  375. ToddFuerte says:

Aloha Guys! I don’t mess with cleaning my sensor… I usually have the professionals take care of it for me (I just didn’t want to mess it up)… I just ordered the items you recommended and will give it a go…Aloha!

  376. Thanks for your flash shooting tips, much appreciated!
    Regards,
    Michael

  377. patrick Aalmans says:

    I love that apolo lichtbox

  378. Dsgsgg says:

Useless show as all you show is how to sell stuff. Too Bad guys

  379. Kevin McGrath says:

great show, i have not cleaned my sensor

  380. Phil Beavis says:

Just use a blower to clean sensor & I also take care when changing lenses.

  381. Alex Hudel says:

I normally use a blower to clean my sensor. Considering how often I change lenses i’ve been lucky thus far with regards to sensor dust.

  382. Russell says:

I have been very very lucky I’ve not had to clean my sensor yet but I think I would clean it my self now I know how thanks to you guys

  383. Jeff Wuerth says:

Hey guys, I really enjoyed this episode. Every episode I watch is giving me ideas that will take my shooting to the next level. Thank you for all your tips and advice.

  384. Steven Lee says:

    great show

  385. Gary Schlager says:

Just starting watching your show and been lovin’ it! I do not (and have never) cleaned my sensor. Ooops – I think I need to start so thanks for the intro.

  386. Dan says:

Good stuff, new to this show but i shall return. I’ve had my camera about a year now and haven’t ever cleaned my sensor. I want to pick up one of those blowers but otherwise will probably let a pro clean it when it becomes necessary.

  387. Jeff F. says:

great show. I haven’t cleaned my sensor yet.

  388. Susie Kelley says:

    Have never cleaned my sensor.

  389. Matt Bennett says:

    RC and Larry,
I hope what I have to say isn’t being “sensored”! :) Yes, I do clean my camera sensor, but only to the point of using my rocket blower to blow off dust. I’ve seen the video that Laurie Excel did on Kelby Training before. It’s probably not that big of a deal once you’ve done it a few times, but I have a resource locally that I would utilize if it had to be done. Great show!

  390. Francis says:

I just use a blower and the built-in camera sensor cleaning on my D90.

Can you guys do some more episodes on using Speedlights off camera as well as common troubleshooting issues? When I use my SB-800 off camera as a slave, it keeps beeping multiple times. What’s going on? Please help!

  391. tim johnson says:

great show. i use rocket air only so far for my sensor. but i learned great tips today!

  392. emilio b says:

I use visible dust – it kicks ass

  393. Sandeep says:

I loved your presentation. Keep up the good work.
I once tried to clean my camera’s sensor and screwed up bad. Since then I’ve always given it to someone else. But having this presentation, I’m looking forward to cleaning myself :)

  394. Brandon says:

I’ve cleaned my own sensor, but only after watching tutorials on it.

  395. Francis says:

    Hi guys!

  396. mark papke says:

My local camera store I bought my D7000 from gives lifetime free sensor cleanings for anyone who buys a camera there. I take it in and in 5 minutes its done.

  397. Don Schierer says:

I love photography. Don’t have my own dslr camera, but a high end point and shoot. I’m trying to start a small part time business. I borrow a friends dslr cannon camera not high end, but have learned enough to get some pretty impressive pics especially after photoshopping them. Did’nt know much about the lens cleaning though. Great show today. Also hit on the speed lights which I was just learning about. Thanks again.

  398. Ricky says:

Love your show, but I’m not sure which day it’s shot live. Can you help me with that?

  399. victor j garcia says:

your show is great as always. I havent cleaned my sensor yet, have always been kind of aprehensive about it. with your tips and all the products out there now i will probably give it a shot. keep up the awesome shows.

  400. Randy Young says:

I pay to have my sensors cleaned. Love the fact that the commercials have finally changed. Nothing against the previous ones but I have them memorized already.

  401. peter says:

    great info and always useful
