Today’s episode was really great, actually one of the more interesting ones for me (and I watch them all.) I have been familiar with ‘Trey for a long time now, and he really helped me get started in HDR. My post is nowhere like his, but he introduced me to the right techniques in using my camera. Thanks!
Good highlight on Trey’s site. I check it out frequently for some inspiration or tools.

Did you forget about the “subtractive lighting” element on which you were going to expound following the low-key [gore] lighting tip? Interesting tip from Jay M. regarding survival. I guess that is very important in NYC.

Hey guys! Great show again! I’m hoping you guys will have some tilt-shift tips on here one day. I have a 45mm tilt-shift lens, and it’s one of the sharpest lenses that I own, but I’m still having trouble achieving a miniature effect. Well, have a great week and keep up the awesome job, guys!!

Stuck in Customs is a great web site, I especially like the Eiffel tower in reflection.
Great show as usual!!
Great Show – How about more on HDR photography
RC reading your HDR book and all I can say is this is great. I just came home from a vacation and took images to use in HDR and Im happy to say this book inspired me. Hope I can get that app code HEHE.
Larry, please keep your Liberal political snipes to your self. Considering only about 20% of the population self identifies as Liberal, you are more than likely irking a majority of your audience.
If I want political commentary I’ll watch Bill Maher or listen to Rush Limbaugh.
Paul-
Please don’t read more into it than just a swipe at a politician in general. Regardless of the side of the aisle, I find them all worthy of a jab on a regular basis. Mine was nothing more than an off-the-cuff comment not meant to insight political discourse. — Ironically, I’m actually rather conservative. And if you think about it, McCain is one of the least conservative Republicans out there. I’m thinking ’08 would have gone differently if… Kidding, I’m not REALLY gonna start talking politics here.
I thought it was a good swipe anyway!
Hey guys – great show as always. I love Trey’s work as well.
Two thoughts for show topics:
1. Sensor cleaning – especially, what is the best equipment under $100 if I want to do it myself?
2. RAW+jpeg workflow for Lightroom. I usually just shoot Raw but thinking about using Raw+jpeg when I know I’ll want to fire off some shots quick. What’s the best way to handle it in LR? Should I import the jpeg’s as well, or leave them out of LR?
Trey’s HDR site is absolutely awesome!
Good show guys.
Great Show!
Suggestion for Grip Tips: The most un-talked about grip tool… Gaffers Tape! How about a video montage “1001 uses for gaffers tape”
Thanks guys! I love all of your tips!
And by the way, my 500px user name is Knoph
http://500px.com/Knoph
I like your videos,guys!
Thank you!
Great show1
Why not announce prizewinners each week?
Always learning something new when I watch these episodes. Also, The 100 in 1 camera app is an awesome app for the Iphone.
Glenn N
Liked the reflector tip for black light blocker.
I like.Stuck in Customs. Good show.
Great interview with Jay Maisal. I’ve followed his work for years. Trey Radcliffe has some great HDR shots and his tutorials are fantastic.
Another great show!
Very informative show.
Great show guys, Keep up the good work. Please consider doing a show on how to studio light, – just an introduction. Maybe show a 1 light, a 2 light and a 3 light setup. You would talk about ratios. Just wanted to give you an idea to put on your list for content.
Stuck in Customs… a great website
I like grip tips and where it is going. I’m sure Brad has all sorts of great stuff for being quick to solve set up issues…keep ‘em coming!
Another fine show guys!
Great show guys but we need more tips on using today’s DSLR’s
Enjoyed the show, as usual. Thanks
Thank you
Thanks for another good show & links to stuck in customs – Very cool.
Thanks for the info on the 5 in 1
Wow! An interview with Jay, and Trey’s work showcased on the same show! Thanks, guys! One thing to note when you do future video interviews is to make sure the tops of the heads in the video are at the same height. RC was noticeably “taller” than Jay, and it was awkward to watch.
Larry, thanks for the reflector tip. I did a senior portrait using the gold reflector below the boy’s face. Looking back, I should have used it above, but the boy loved the photo and made it his yearbook picture anyways. Whatever the client wants, right?
–John
Hope you can convince me HDR is a Kind of an Art and not another Way to cover up the insufficiency of a dslr…
Great tip on the 5 in 1.
Great web sites and great show
You are the best, keep on doing this
Love the new episodes! R.C. is great. He has an “everyman” style that really pushes the show more towards the mainstream audience.
Keep the shows coming. Love them
a comment
Great show!
Enjoyed the show.
Thanks for the info about the reflectors.
Great reflector/light from top tip!
Hi Larry! Met you in San Fran at the Adobe presentation. Told you how much I enjoy D Town. Looking forward to more Jay Maisel tips. And Stuck in Customs… wow!
Hey Barbi! Thanks for saying “hi” too.
Will be checking out the Stuck In Customs Website!
Reading RC’s HDR book. So far its a winner.
Great examples of his HDR throughout the book.
Very inspiring!
Another Great Show. Already ordered Trey’s Class.
Trey web site rocks!
Great show as always guys.
Trey’s website Rocks!
Good show guys!
Good show this week!
I’m a fan of Trey’s stuff. For HDR you guys ought to showcase http://www.HDRSPotting.com – this is hwere some of the best HDR work hangs out!
Trey does some great HDR
Great as always. Larry, next time mention that the black side can also be used to keep light from bouncing off surfaces adding too much light. Like a model standing on a clean sidewalk with light bouncing up into her face. Not only reduces the light but makes it more comfortable for her to see.
Bill-
Indeed. One of the reasons I recommend having a black option is for negative/subtractive lighting. I’ll probably cover that in a future episode.
thanks guys
great show guys…
Your tech crew needs to fine tune the noise gates in the microphone channels.
It seems to be a bit too tight.
Thank you for another very helpful show. You have renewed my interest in HDR and have checked out the links you shared. Keep up the great work.
A question. When do you prefer to use the title field in lightroom meta data vs using the Caption field?
Also, any way to easily spell check the caption field or inport into the caption filed?
Trey’s stuff is so great. I love getting his newsletter. A great way to see his new stuff as it comes out.
Great show this week
i love trey’s hdr photos!
Great show with many good tips. I liked the Grip Tips segment. Thanks!
Great show as always.
Trey’s website (Stuckincustoms.com) is a great one. Love his work. Love his appearances on Leo’s TWiT network.
Good job Larry & RC.
Been a big of Trey’s since getting my first dSLR, great work.
Great show guys, been thinking about getting a reflector to play with for some time, not i have more reasons to invest
Great stuff as usual…
Sorry guys but Treys HDR stuff is old school and not good anymore. You should point people in the direction of Klaus from Germany. He is doing the best HDR processing in the world right now and his stuff is all free!
Here is his link:
http://farbspiel.wordpress.com/
RC and Larry,
I just saw a 5in1 yesterday. Our local photo group had a lighting workshop. The instructor demonstrated one in his class. Trey’s HDR is exceptional as is RC’s
Thanks,
Terry
Love HDR and learning from your show.
Good tips again this time, will help me do better with the reflector.
Thanks for another great show
Getting into HDR … love the tips from before and thanks for the heads up on Trey’s book. I’ll add it to my wishlist, next to RC’s book.
give me that bag I need it.
and the software .
Great show
Great show! Perhaps the show’s hosts can inject more humour and fun to the show through their communications?
Great show
hi!
Trey’s HDR site is very impressive. How about more out in the street episodes?
Hey guys, I’m such a huge fan of Trey Radcliff and I tell everyone I know about him. Thanks for a great show.
Thank you for the Trey Radcliff link.
I follow Larry on Twitter!
Another great show
Larry,
I appreciate your advice on getting started as a professional photographer.
Epic Episode
Trey’s firework shot……is hot….oh yeah he lives in Austin and its hot.
Hi Guys, thanks for recommending LensProToGo.com in the previous episode, I rented from them last week and it was a great experience! (Even though all 3 of events where postponed) but still worth it.
Thanks again for recommending them (and the discounts as a Photoshop Magazine user!!!)
Good show starting to try some HDR using RC’s book. (does that help me win)
Hi Larry & TV,
I’m a big fan of D Town and Test Ratcliff. I envy his travels. I appreciate the way you and he shares your stuff. Keep up the good work.
Love the HDR focus!
Great show. Would love the trey bundle. thanks
Great show as always. Thanks for guiding me to the Stuck in Customs site. The photos there are a really good inspiration!
Great show.
John McCain looks evil? Come on, get serious.
Jim-
At least you know I wasn’t serious. In case you missed my comment to Paul above, here was my reply when he thought I was making a political comment:
Please don’t read more into it than just a swipe at a politician in general. Regardless of the side of the aisle, I find them all worthy of a jab on a regular basis. Mine was nothing more than an off-the-cuff comment not meant to insight political discourse. — Ironically, I’m actually rather conservative. And if you think about it, McCain is one of the least conservative Republicans out there. I’m thinking ’08 would have gone differently if… Kidding, I’m not REALLY gonna start talking politics here.
Another great show, Stuck in customs is a great site, I’ve followed it for a while now.
great stuff
Great again . . .
I’m not the biggest HDR guy, but I’m definitely interested in giving it a try. I can haz book?
Am I too late for the contest….
Great as usual…..thanks for the tips, always helpful……
Hi guys,
Long-time watcher, first-time poster. I’ve watched every episode of D-Town and loved the tips and tricks from the first 65 episodes. So much so that I recommend the D-Town podcasts to many of my friends that are new to photography. Sorry to be blunt, but it just seems like the show has gotten way too chatty lately; almost like the constant, constant banter is more of a time filler than an effort to answer questions and give tips. I used to look forward to watching these episodes on the subway to/from work and now I find myself losing interest and actually reading the ads on the train walls when the incessant banter starts.
As far as questions go, I was interested in getting into automotive photography and wanted to know if you guys had any tips on the best way to capture cars (i.e. rig shots, rolling shots, driving shots, from below, etc.).
Thanks.
Love the show and have seen every episode.
I am a little disappointed in Larry with his comment in this episode regarding a political figure. I do not believe this show is the appropriate venue to express personal political options. I do respect you Larry and appreciate all the great info you have shared with us but please keep the subject on topic.
John-
Apparently you missed my comment to Paul (above around #164). To quote me:
Please don’t read more into it than just a swipe at a politician in general. Regardless of the side of the aisle, I find them all worthy of a jab on a regular basis. Mine was nothing more than an off-the-cuff comment not meant to insight political discourse. — Ironically, I’m actually rather conservative. And if you think about it, McCain is one of the least conservative Republicans out there. I’m thinking ’08 would have gone differently if… Kidding, I’m not REALLY gonna start talking politics here.
You guys are the best!
Yeah for Trey
Another great episode, love this stuff. Can you guys do a few more episodes on outdoor, wildlife photography. Like every photgrapher I know we also want to know what these pros use for equipment. Possibly add a segment on what’s in your bag when you interview some of these guys.
Thanks Guys
Love it
You guys are Awesome, I watch you from start to finish no Toilet breaks.
Thnaks for the great show, I#d like to see some more tips about HDR .
Great show!!!!
Great Show guys!
great show as always. How about a show on various external SAFE storage HDs like Drobo or anything eise. also USB 3.0 vs Thunderbolt, e
Sata vs firewire etc etc…. I’ve had HD failures and KNOW the pain. Jock
Hope I win one of those great give-aways some day.
Keep up the good works Chaps.
Really Larry? McCain looks evil “more than normal”/ Not even close to describing McCain. The show is about photography. Don’t let your politics show.
Thanks again.
Great video and web site
