BTW: You BOTH look so tan. Good vacation or warmer lights?
Great show!
Great show
Great Stuff Guys! Any chance you could do a show on Macro and Micro (really close) photography equipment and techniques?
Way good idea, this one about Macro/Micro. I do some Silverware photography and have to get close close macro shots of the ‘stamping’ (the imprintedsignature marks of the artisan). I’ve been using an old manual focus macro lense with an extension tube and the camera on a tripod to do f22 and 30second exposures (ive noticed im better off at f16 due to diffraction??) and conging my d200 to wait for the mirror to flip up and camera shake to stop before the sensor starts recording.
Im now looking at buying a bellows. Bad idea?
I wonder if i should trash my approach and buy a new lense with VR?
Great show again. Just want I needed as I move from P&S to DSLR. Thanks!
you guys are awesome. =)
i like books.
good show again
Thanks another fun show
Another great show/ I’d love to own Scott’s books, Matt’s too
All my photographer friends recommend them!
awesome tips as always.
i want to learn.. the books will def help! hope i win them both! =)
Thanks again for a great show!
You guys do a great job – thanks again!!!
Thank you guys for sharing your knowledge
Just the coooooolest show, guys; great studio setup, fewer black-shirts & some great guests.
Way back Matt did an slot on the Nik Silver-FX-Pro plug-in, some great ideas & something to aspire to though a little outside my budget at the moment. But let me tell you, I am colourblind, as are many, many men (maybe 1 in 17 males), so when I make adjustments in Lightroom my teenage kids pull amazing faces at the bright & distorted colours that look fine to me, so I’m migrating across to monochrome. But I bet you guys could give some great tips on how to set up specifically for Black & White photography, e.g. filters, lighting, subjects, angles, even Lightroom adjustments. I love B&W images, they create such a special mood & take me back to my student days in the early 70′s when that’s all we could afford to do. So how about it – a few B&W killer-tips…. or maybe our own dedicated episode!
But, hey, whatever you decide I’ll still be devoted to your show, even when it is just a bit-part in Cheapshots.tv – all the best.
Another great show! Layers works for me!
Great show.
One more great show !!! Thanks
Great show again..Love Larry Becker
Great show but no talk of a flash?
Great show I do need a new tripod since mine was run over by a train.Long story!
Love your shows! Do you ever select a winner in Canada?
thanks again for all the info
Great again.
thanks again for all the information on lens
Great show again. Maybe a show on workflow (Capture NX)?
Hey guys,
I’m one of the people who got to appreciate UV filters firsthand. The camera (in a bag) fell off the seat on the airplane, onto the fluffy carpet. I opened the bag, and (OMG!) there was shattered glass everywhere. You can’t imagine how happy I was when I realized it was just the UV filter and my $700 lens stayed intact.
Great show – I wish I knew this stuff a couple of years ago.
This is a really good episode!
On question, why did you advice the 50 mm prime and not the 35 mm? In what situations are both most powerful?
Great Show and thanks for the links for equipment….
Hi Guys, how are you doing? I would the books!
groovy episode, one of the best yet!!!
Thanks for the show!
Hi guys,
Thanks for the buying tips!!
great show, guys!
i’m checking out the stealth reporter bag now.
Great show! Loved Matt’s shirt and agree completely with your tips, especially the about the tripod (just made the switch from an awful tripod to the proper one). Is it just me or was this episode a bit darker than usual? Really hard to see the black gear against the black shirts.
Great show – You Guys just Rock!!!
An idea for a future show…. hmmm, how about care and feeding of memory cards? You actually touched on it this time out by discussing card holder cases (I was getting excited) BUT you stopped at Scott’s trick for storing full cards.
It would truly be appreciated if you could discuss the do’s and don’ts of memory cards. Thanks a lot…
great show, thanks for putting me onto a strap that is much needed!!!
great show
Great show.
Can you talk indepth about white balance and setting Nikon camera to grey card.
great show would like to see tips on big glass.
you gus rock!
im new to photography and i was asked to do some studio photography and i need help on lights and accessories
If you don’r win Scott’s boxed set go buy it. Lifesaver.
Also have a look at prophotolife.com for a nice series to complement the videos from kelbytraining
You guys ROCK
You guys rock! Great show.
thanks for the great job on the show, you tips do help me completely since i am new to the DSLR side of the photography.
great show … always good to get back to basics
[...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Vincenzo, Vincenzo and Vincenzo, Vincenzo. Vincenzo said: Episode 58 http://goo.gl/fb/afluW [...]
really good show.
Its always good to get back to basics.
Been following your blog for a long time, but now im getting hook on Dtown too!!! Oh well, who needs sleep anyhow.
James
Another awesome show. Very helpful.
Have a Gitzo Gt3541XLS with RRS BH55 head.
Great sturdy combination, not to heavy to carry around. One time life time investment
Very nice potpourri of equipment and very good advice. Thanks.
Great tips. Another thing to point out for the beginner is don’t buy more gear until you understand the gear you already have.
Hi all, Another great episode!!! Totally enjoyed it. Thanks!
Good show for the newbies.
You guys are Awesome !!!!
More infomation on flash like quantum qflash or the speedlights)
Wonderful show – would love a copy of those books! Just starting to learn Photoshop and I don’t have any books.
Keep up the great work guys!
Re: Cheap Shots Flash remotes / Amazon’s search keys: flash slave; The reviews of these products were inconsistent with a lot of “it broke”. Would like to hear from others about their success / failures.
Very interesting. I agree on bags, there is always a need for another. Looking for a smaller backpack, one that does not look like a camera bag.
This is a show that I need! — also could you guys
do a show dedicated to small flash and modifers.
Thank you
Thanks Guys.
I hope I win.
Great show!
Cool show. Even useful for someone who’s been doing it for a few years … although just finally buying my second case. (Bought my second body first.)
I just can say, thank you guys,90% of my learning of photoshop and photography was with you.
The tip about UV filters i follow at risk, all my lenses have UV filters.recently when i was taking pictures of a 1,5 years old baby,he grab the front of my lens and there it was the UV filter to protect the glass from that little hands full of cookies and saliva. Lol
Great job as always.
Thanks,
Marty
Great show! How about a show with the basics of portrait photography?! It would be awesome!
Great show guys.
Thanks fellas… great stuff!!
Great show., I’ld emphasise the point about Arca-Swiss compatibility in the ball-head you’ve picked out, as that is one of the reasons you’ll still be using it in years to come, rather than being limited by a single proprietary plate, you’ll be able to buy the L bracket for your camera.
Thanks for all of the work that you guys do, it is appreciated!!
I really want to see more landscape photography stuff, I also think that Matt needs to write “the Bible of Landscape Photography” book. You guys are the master of the bible books (Moose, David etc)
I’m thinking you two could make just about any subject interesting. I really chuckled at the bag segment. I’m shopping for a backpack right now which will be bag #4 or 5. And thanks for the tripod basics. I spent a bit over $100 for what I thought was a good one but is a bit heavy so gets left home which completely defeats having one. Thanks again.
Love your work!
Great show! Hey, I have made this request before and apparently I am the only one interested – please explain 51 point Nikon focus and how to use it for sports photography.
Keep up the great work!
I like to read too!!!
How about a segment about wireless flash triggers.
Different types like:
- trigger only
- remote control power like the Radiopopper JRX
- full E-TTL or I-TTL.
You can’t beat the Gitzo/RRS tripod/head combo. I love mine and feel it was worth the money even though I’m an amateur.
Nice episode for beginners. How about a similar effort for the next step, moving up to advanced amateur status.
Although you have touched on it before, how about a show on getting the most out of portrait photography.
Thanks
Great show!
Hey guys, its time to pick poor ole Fritz. He is an
avid fan of all the shows, so show him that you love him and give him a prize. thanks ffm
You guys are way to serious !
D-Town on steroids this week – great show.
i just want to ask you guys do me a favor and visit my website to make sure that I know some basics. i took all the pictures with a 18-200 lens mounted on a D300. Maybe you think I’m sick about the sharpness but what i noticed at very first time: this lens can not produce sharp images at all. and I really don’t know what to do with a lens cost me 800 bucks one year ago.
P.S. I love your shows. all of them.
Great Show
In the recent past you have mentioned several camera bags but they don’t seem to fit cameras with battery grips very well. Could you review some camera bags that fit cameras with battery grips better?
Thanks.
Hi Guys, great show once again.. Also noticed a bug of previous poster’s info left behind in the fills..
Adequately informative show (aka “Great show” while still leaving room for improvement
Ideas for more shows? How about first steps going from on-camera flash (sucky indeed) to first hotshoe flash (SB900 in my case) WITHOUT all the reflectors, umbrellas or softboxes.
Thanks!
Hi Guys!
It wouldn’t be a bad idea to explain the process of cleaning our new DSLR’s after lots of usage and lens changing.
Thanks.
Another great show. How about a tip on focus area selection. When to use a single area or a dynamic area.
Great info as always. Keep ‘em coming!!
I’m addicted to this show. Thanks again for all the great tips, advice, etc. You guys rock!
Luv you guys!
Awesome!
Great episode. Great products
“Circular polarizer” doesn’t mean the polarizer is round and spins around. The linear polarizers we had in the film days were round and spun around. But they interfere with auto-focus systems, while circular polarizers don’t.
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=13143
Ok Mat how much money do you spend a year on
cool t-shirts…..
Thank you guys!
Good Job. I have done what you said about camera bags and still looking for that perfect bag.
Another great show guys!
You guys ROCK!!! Great show as usual…Can I get a part-time job at your studio so I can get all the equipment you featured today??
thanks
Hi guys!
Great job..
Always nice to hear the basics again. Thanks!
Great show.
Thank you for all the good information. I look forward to each episode.
Jimmy
I really enjoyed the show, glad to see you guys are back..
Victor
Great show! Question about the tripod… what do you use when shooting tethered to hold your laptop and camera.
Thanks again!
Kevin Fischer
Thanks for the show.
Very helpful info for us beginners!
Love the show as allways!
Matt, where do you get your tees? They are all cool!
thanks another tips for new on dslr.
The irony is I just ordered my new RRS BH-55 last week to replace my Manfrotto Pistol grip. Wish I saw this episode last year…
Great show!
howdy again
look forward to your show thanks
Another great show and great offer.
Wish I had seen this show about 5 years ago. I made the mistake of buying a cheap tripod, which didn’t last very long. After doing some serious internet research and then discussing with my camera shop, I bought a Gitzo 1325 . Terrific tripod. Good advice to new shooters – spend the money on a really good tripod and ballhead. Suggest a show on shooting action shots like tracking soaring eagles. Thanks!
Hi Friends!! Can I call you that? How about each show you call out who won the week before giveaway.. Great Show.
You guys ROCK… Great episode!!
hey scott
on the moab trip – i dropped my 70-300 front element down on the platform at bryce canyon – bill fortney picked the shards of glass out of the filter ring and it was 100% – it was the lens i shot Tyson on his bike a few days later – keep spreading the word!
Hi Friends, Can I call you that? Great Show Again!!
How about giving a call out on who won the week before giveaway sometime during the show!
i bought the up strap
Another great job guys. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Guys.
Another great show.
Great show… thanks
Great show guys. The mono-pod/ball-head info was very timely for me.
Thanks!
Hi Friends, Can I call you That? Great Show yet again!
How about give a call out on who won the giveaway each week?
great show
Great show guys.
Would you guys mind doing an episode on finding a lens’s sweet spot. Love da Nikon
great show.
Thanks for another wonderful show. I still need a good tripod. I have been using a walmart brand one for 3 years now. I mainly do portraits shoots so I don’t use it much, but when I do I hate not having a better tripod. Kind of hard convening the wife on how to spend $300+ on a tripod and ball head. If you guys could answer how to convince your wife to allow you to buy certain things on the next show, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME! Thanks again guys for everything that you all do. I’m so happy to be a member of the NAPP.
Love this! I would love to have Matts book, no offense, but I have already purchased Scotts three books. I would love to brag that I have a signed book!
You might want to check out why a circular polarizer is called circular.
Another great show!
I’ve been looking into Eye-Fi, but can’t find answers to all my questions about the technology … maybe we can have a segment about it?!?
I’ve been looking into Eye-Fi but can’t find answers to all of my questions on the technology … any chance for a segment on the topic?!?
Good show
Hi guys,
Great show; You guys talked about cleaning your lens. What do you guys recommend for cleaning the camera sensor. At times i get dust that even a blower doesn’t get; any suggestions?.
thank you
Hi guys,
Great show!
You guys talked about cleaning lens. Can you guys tell me a save way to clean the camera sensor. i’m currently using a blower and its not getting rid of all dust particles, They show up as black blobs; any suggetions?
Thank you
Mo
Great show as usual. So true on the bags and I got 3 Think Tank Bags already. Gitzo and RRS would be a cool combo. I’ll go tell my buddy about this. Thanks guys you’re the best!
Love this show and look forward to it every week!
Great show as always! Really like the shows like this one where you pick a topic and go more in depth.
Great show. I’ve just started watching you guys. I’m new to photography and this show was very helpful for me. Thanks!
Another great Show guys. Thanks!
thanks for another episode!
Good stuff guys.
What strap would you recommend for a D90 regularly paired with a Sigma 70-200 2.8? I’ve looked at upstrap-pro.com and they seem to have three options.
Cheers, Kevin
You guys rule !
Great show guys!
What do you guys think of the Black Rapid RS-5 camera strap? The bolt on connector would seem to be a hassle for portrait shooting if you have a battery pack..
You Rock…
Great show guys
another great show !
Nice show! Any suggestions for a shoulder-bag just large enough to fit a pro dslr-body + a 70-200/2.8 – nothing less, nothing more? I don’t like backpacks because my back gets really sweaty and my clothes just sticks to it :p. I just want something comfortable so I can take a walk with my D700 with batterygrip + 70-200/2.8 more often. You know, a walk downtown, having something to eat, doing some shopping, taking some photos and just having fun, and not looking like I was about to climb Mount Everest. I guess I could just take the camera without any bag, but it wouldn’t be very protected, besides it’s a bit uncomfortable having a piece of metal and glass swaying around and poking you in the lard all day long
.
awsome show! I got a question, i’m shooting with a nikon d300 with a sb900 speedlight, if I dile the exposure compensation down on the camera will it effect the flash if i shoot wirelessflash with nikon cls?
finaly, that layersbook looks really nice!
I love NAPP !! : – )
How I wish that DTown TV had been around when I started buying Photo gear! I would have saved enough to buy ALL The Photoshop Guy’s books twice over!!
Thanks as always for a brilliant show!
as informative as ever. cheers guys.
Awesome show. Being fairly recent to photography everything you said was SO TRUE. Had to learn some of that stuff the hard way.
Hi! Great show again.
Great show!
You only forgot to mention one crucial thing – extra batteries.
Loved your show guys!
Great show! Now I know what to recommend my non-photographer friends who want advice.
Great show as usual. Good tips.
Great show, liked the themed show idea.
once again: interesting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great show.
I’ve been using my tripod for about 37 years.
It’s really time for a Gitzo & RRS ballhead.
Any chance you’ll be giving those away?
Hey, how about a series of show on specific gear for specific photo genres? LIke concert, travel, portrait…
Brilliant episode!
Great job, I would like to see some entry level off camera lightning tips for beginners in the show.
Fantastic show for new photographers like me. Would love a show on choosing and using speedlights for the first time.
Great Show…..
Hey Scott and Matt, how about a show on shooting sports! Covering lenes, shutter speed, ISO etc…
Great show! I’m about to buy a tripod for myself so I’m sure I’ll have look at the Gitzo tripod. Thanks guys!
RE: Bags. My problem has been to unpack, attach, put on the lens hood for my 300mm f2.8 and my D300. Home Depot sells a really good hard plastic tool box @ 20″ for $15.00!
I can leave the lens(with the hood in place) on my camera – ready to go! It also has a convenient tray for “stuff”. I lined the bottom of it with some new carpet padding for extra protection.
TAKE A LOOK AT IT………
Your theme this show was spot on! Thanks so much.
Nice segment. Wish you had covered flash too.
One thing to mention, on the 50mm F1.8 will not auto focus on the entry level Nikons and you might should have made reference to that (AF vs AF-S)
Great job as always!
Another great show guys!
you guys rock
Great Show! I think you guys should have talked about FLASH. Very important.
You guys are getting awesomier!!!
Love the show, great tips Can you talk about macro photography, best lenses, f-stop, etc.
Great show, many thanks.
Guys,
Great Show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great show
Like your show guys!!
Love the show! More about flashes please!
Excellent show, told my daughter about it as she will be thrilled by what you covered.
hi guys another great show…..
Great show!
nice job for beginners
Hey Matt, Why did you switch from Canon to Nikon?
Hi!
You guys rock;)
Could you make a show about sealed lenses (and bodys). About how they behave in practice and how does it effect on the guarentee if the body gets “hurt” enyway.
Thanks for your time,
Gregor from Slovenia
Great Show ! I did got a lot of the same questions from my friends and now finnaly I can give them some answers.
Good job this week. Very comprehensive.
Great Show, wonderful for us beginners!
Another great show! Thanks for all your hard work!
Great show as usual. You mentioned that you will have the same tripod for 15 years. That would be if you spend the extra money. If you go the mid-range route and use it a lot, it will not last like a Gitzo. A Gitzo is not just a purchase, it is an investment.
One last question. When researching for a ballhead a few years back, I found that RRS is very popular here, but it seems like everywhere else Markins is very popular. I went with Markins after a lot of extensive research and I have been very happy with it. How come no one ever mentions Markins?
Thanks for the tips, once again a job well done.
I know you guys travel all over the country teaching, maybe you would consider a workshop in Salt Lake City some day.
Thanks again; have a good one.
Man, I’ve just recently discovered this show and it’s so awesome! Now I have 58 more episodes to catch up on
Matt & Scott,
How about a show (or several!) for middle to high end users?
Also, when you talk about technical stuff and how it affects photos I have a tip: show the resulting photo on screen.
Good show! Please consider doing a short sketch about setting up a collection in the right way with LightRoom 3. I get confused every time I try to do it.
What don’t you guys like about the pistol grip heads? I am only an amateur but I love my Manfrotto 322RC2 even with my 70-200mm f/2.8.
Also I have to know why did Matt switch from Canon to Nikon.
Yet another great informative show, thanks
Nice job once again!58 episodes of pure awesomeness!!
I just hope that you could:
1) Tell some tips for MACRO photography too, because that is very popular with “beginners” and I think you have never even mentioned it in D-town.
2) Recommend/ tell your lens choices for travel, sports, landscape, portrait, macro and low-light photography.
Thanks
Another great show guys, you must have been reading my mind as I am currently thinking of getting myself another lens to add to the 18-55 Nikon kit lens I already have – so plenty to think about. Any recommendations for reasonably priced ‘landscape’ lenses?
Great show guys!
Nice job once again!
But could you consider making an episode of MACRO photography? It is very popular with “beginners” and you guys haven’t even mentioned it on D-Town…
And another request is that you tell your lens choices for travel, landscape, wildlife, portrait, macro and sports. (Even if you don’t do macro or wildlife photography, I think you guys can get someone to to your show talking about them.)
Thanks for the 58 awesome episodes!!
I had to laugh at your instructions for new DSLR users because I have a closet full of camera bags and tripods. Once I bought the good stuff I started literally giving away the rest to ————— new photographers. I love Manfrotto tripods and Giotto ball heads. I also happen to already own and swear by the Nikon 18-200mm VRII lens you mentioned. Great show and advice. Keep up the good work. – Bob
I have about 5 photo bags and I am still looking for the “right” one……………
You guy rock! No, seriously, you do, “you really do. Hey, I mean it… rockin’ da house, ok da houski”.
Another great and informative show. Sure hope I get drawn to win these books.
Thanks for the tripod tips. I have been wondering about what to do about picking one.
Great tips today. Thanks!
xasd
fast paced great show
I think this is the only episode that had the longest running time of all. Very comprehensive and informative. Great job guys!
=)
Can you give your thoughts on Tele Extenders?
Great show as always! I’ve been watching since the first episode – Looking forward to next week.
Very good.
I’ve been catching up on old episodes of DTown recently, and this is seriously head-and-shoulders above your average show. (And your average show is good enough that I’m watching back episodes.
)
Thank you.
Hi folks
If I’d just gotten a new DSLR I would be happy to hear what you just said!
Hey guys! Thanks a lot! The tripod tips were AWESEOME! You do rock!
I would love it if you could include tips and thoughts on photography education and talk a little bit about education vs. experience! I really do think that this could be a great and beneficial episodes for both me and your viewers!
Cheers!
Another great show. Thanks!
Nice one !
I would be great if you could explain with sample photos of the lenses you are suggesting.. after all, a picture says more than a thousand words !
Flash! More Cheap Shots! Flash!
Great Show
Loved the segment on tripods and heads. I’ll check out the RRS site!
I know what you mean about bags! Always searching for the next great bag that will do everything for me! I know I will never find it…
OK, Matt, why did you switch from Canon to Nikon?
–John
Great shows. How about a show discussing photo mounting and framing techniques?
Great tip for beginner photographers!
OK,
I need a little advice. Soon (I hope) I will be upgrading from my d70s to either a d300s or a d7000. They both have similar attributes and functions and either would work for me quite well. I lean toward the d300s, it seems to be a little more on the pro style, but the d7000 has some good things goring for it as well. Does any one have any experience with these cameras to pass on? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps Scott and Matt could do an episode showcasing and comparing several different models. Anyway just a thought. Thanks.
Thanks for the show it has been most helpful
good show
Thanks fore the information, was waiting fore something like this.
Great show guys. I wish I’d been told the tripod tip when I first started.
Hi
1) Someone else’s name and email was already filled in when I loaded this page (not a public computer).
2) So my $75 Slik U 9000 video/photo tripod that I bought 5-6 years ago doesn’t cut the mustard?
(Seriously, that’s all I have….)
3) I really need to get myself some UV filters for my lens. I’ve really slacked off in that area!
Thanks for suggesting the better quality camera-branded filters for better clarity!
Really good show for a beginner.
The “Your Name and Email” fields aren’t clearing properly. When i was writing this there was a previous poster’s name, Magnus, and email already there. Refreshing the page cleared it, and found the cookie with my name and email.
Once again Great show. Now let see a show like this for those that maybe Simi Pro Shooters
GREAT SHOW… I look forward to each week’s topics
Thank you for having a show like this. It has saved me LOTS of financial mistakes when it comes to equipment; specially if you are on a budget. Before I buy any kind of equipment I ALWAYS check out Dtown first, and I’m not even a Nikon or Canon Shooter. There simple and basic approach to equipment applies to pretty much any DSLR.
This was a great episode. I really liked the info on lens choices. I plan on looking into getting a 18 – 200mm lens next.
I like your tip about strap.
Thanks
Great ideas today. Just what I need, more ideas on how to spend money.
as always, a great show! Keep up the good work
Great show guys!
Do you guys use the focus micro adjustments for your lenses?
You guy really do rock! Thanks for all the good tips.
Thanks guys.
great show guys. alwasy forget that new episodes comes out , every thursday.
Another fine show gentlemen! I can truly say you two help me more than any other resource when i was starting out.
I AM curious as to why Matt changed teams from Canon to Nikon (being a Canon shooter myself).
IMHO. Canon ruled the PRO market until Nikon finally came out with the full frame. One pro friend moved from Nikon to canon a few years ago, but kept a few nikon lenses. The Nikon D3 and D700 are currently the best low noise, high ISO, cameras available, partly due to lower pixel count, 12Mp. Best in evening sports and inside churches. Canon still is king of the Maxi Mp if you need huge prints or big cropping.
Great Show!!!
I really enjoy the show, and when you make a personal recommendation I take it to heart.
Great show.
another great show. A topic for the future would be how to use multiple flashes for common situations.
Your books are great!
again a great shop
how about a great book on lightroom
one on nik software especially hdr
Hi guys! Great show this week. Thanks for the tips about the tripods, mine is too shaky since I bought bigger lenses, I need to find one stable and sturdy. Will look the brands you mentioned. Thanks again!
Thanks for giving me Christmas ideas. For me, not for anyone else:)
great show – can’t wait to check out Matt’s new book
Great show…I have been looking at lenses over the last couple of weeks wondering what to get.
Thx
You Guys Rock (LOL) How about doing an episode on Nikons D 700?
wow…Photography is like life…
I wish I knew then…what I know now…life and photography wouldn’t have been so expensive…
Great show guys!
I really like how you guys give us a photographer to check out at the end of the show. Would be great if every once in a while you guys could give us interesting locations to shoot throughout the US. Not like the obvious locations but locations that are not on every post card at the local store. I think that would also inspire people in getting out there and shooting new and interesting places.
Thanks, great show once again….
Oh crap, just had a revelation when you mentioned that buying your 2nd camera bag is only the beginning, just bought my 2nd bag a ThinkTank Sling O Matic… also I’m a musician and getting into photography and I’m finding myself with the same problem: G.A.S.

Thanks guys. Another killer show. Would LOVE to hear some info from Scott about focusing modes and how to keep focus on fast moving subjects like football and gymnastics.
Thanks again,
Rich
great show!
Great stuff today. How about doing a show on all things Macro Photography. I’m sure there are a lot of tips, lenses, lighting, accessories, and even photographers to profile that are all about Macro.
Thanks Again!
Great show guys. Finally a show for those of us on a fixed budget.
Grrrrrreat show for us new to DSLRs thanks
Can’t wait for the next episode. You’re great.
I look forward to your shows every week and episode 58 was one of the best. I am fairly new to DSLR’s and you had some great information for beginners.
Guy can you do a show on typs of GPS to use.
Great show.
How about a segment on close-up photography. Possibly compare special lenses vs close-up add on lenses and extension tubes.
Hey Guys,
Great show and suggestions.
How about a feature on ring and macro flash units?
Cheers!
John
Love your show!
It would be great if you could have a three or four part tutorial on flash, like the one you did with lenses in the first season.
27.41?
Is this the longest episode so far?
Keep ‘em comin!
Hey Guys,
Great episode, keep up the good work.
This Has been a great and long show today. I have to say that everything you said in it happened to me. Apart from using my old film cameras, the first digital I had was a Nikon D70 then a D200 and now a D700. Then I had to move to different lenses until I have got the good ones now, pros. Same happened with my filters and my compactfalsh cases ( I have the solid one you show in your episode now ) and my straps for the camera…. By the way one of the best straps is the Lowepro Voyager , the most comfortable one you can get. I bought it in BH N.Y. And at last I had different bags and rucksaks and tripods…
All a great bunch of BUCKS (Euros in my case).
My wife knows nothing of this , or else…
Great show, and fun to watch. Always learn something that I can use.
Thanks for the great tips and advice.
Love the show -
Great show guys.
How about doing a show that is all about Macro?
Include tips, lighting, equipment, accessories, cheap shots, and even profile some macro photographers.
Thanks Again,
GQ
Now that you have done the “Entry Level show”, how about a show for the semi pro people????
I’m not seeing my comment show up, so I posted a couple of times. If you did receive multiples please delete the duplicates.
Great show as always!

can you do a show to do studio portraits
lighting equipment, strobes, lightboxes, constant light sources etc
Thanks for another great show.

Great Show. What about Acratech GP Ball head?
Any suggestions for architectural photography, lens aperture and distortion?
Great episode for beginners. But everyone can learn from watching D-Town TV!
another very helpful show. thank you so much.
Great show. How about a segment on how and when to use spot meetring?
Thanks
Good show.
Thanks for the all that stuff.

Been shooting for years but stayed tuned in for the whole show. You never know what little tip you may pickup. Thanks for another great show.
Watching every show!
Would also enjoy watching a macro special show
Greetings from germany
Hi guys, how you doing?
great show!
Great show guys. Great information for those just starting out.
Good job.
Great show, I look forward to every new episode. Just got Scott’s Lightroom 3 book and have found it really useful.
nice show. what about a tip for beginers on buying a flash?
Great show.
Like your shows. Bought my Bogen when the new RB67 Pro S 1st came out & I’m still using it today (ugly with age like me, but it still works). I also enjoy the feature photo sites. I check them all.How about a seg onsite while one of you are doing a shoot ?
I have a tip for you guys. Check out the Sun Sniper Strap. I love mine.
Great show. Here is a suggestion for a future show: I’ve started to use 3D in Photoshop CS5 Extended.
Do you have any recommendations on how to shoot photos that would lead to some great designs or photos in 3D?
Thanks. Richard
How about some more wedding tips? Thanks for the shows!
Cool show but I can’t believe Matt said it was called a circular polarizer because it turns!
Way to go Larry! Once again, you took it up a notch!
Bill
Great info for new DSLR owners! Thanks.
I would love to have those books!
Fantastic … I’m a dSLR newbie, so your startup kit tips were really useful. I already have the 18/250mm, UV filter and camera bag, so next on the list will be the tripod, polarizer and lens cleaner kit. I’m off to buy something new, thanks!
….I have even scheduled to watch this show weekly. That’s how I like it
.
Thank you so much.
Could you explore new Nikon lenses–28-300, 24-120 f4. Like to see you compare 28-300 to 70-300VR.
Another great show.
Guys I need to win so I can afford tripod……Great show
Come over to Valencia, the Sangrias great
Hey Guys. How about a link to that $100 Nikon 50mm 2.8? Assuming that’s not an AF-S?
book me.
Great show, gentlemen. I learn something new each week. Thanks.
Dang, I thought you were going to give away a Bogen tripod. Oh well, maybe next episode!?!
Great show on lenses! Thinking about purchasing some new ones, so the information was very beneficial.
Thanks again,
Ross
Awesome show!
Enjoyed your show.
I like your suggestions for photographer web sites.
Keep up the good work.
Bye Bye
Regards
Chris
My sister will love your basics show. I agree with the bag issues. I have several, latest is a Pelican 1550 hard case. My rodeo friends use them and they get covered in mud, they use them as a stool and they are supposed to fit in the overhead storage. Plus you can chain and lock them to anything. I do however, like my pistol grip on my monopod when shooting sports. Left hand can quickly change while right hand stays on the shutter button. Just squeeze and release, no time for re tightening. Jock
Great show. Everything was well thought out and presented.
More shows about lenses, even the expansive ones
thank you your knowledge and instructions are always benificial
Thanks for the great show, you tips do help me completely since i am new to the DSLR side of the photography.
I would love to have those books!!!!
Nice show. Any informaiton on the Nikon D7000?
Great show. Thanks.
You guys make my week, I look forward to each show. Thanks for all you do. Could you do a show on items that would enhance the use of speed lights? Such as snoots and 80-20′s and diffusers , so I could decide which items would suit my needs as far as flash photography goes? Thanks, and would you mind adding my name for the contest? Would love the gifts! Doug
Great tip Larry!!
Thank you very much for the advice on lens and all the cool stuff I now have to buy to look cool.
Thank you for the great show!
another great show thanks for the brand name suggestions
Great show guys. Hey Scott, was your shirt a subtle way to get us to shop at the Kelby store? Being a poor college student I will buy when I can but I would love to win stuff.
Yeah!!!
Great show for beginners. How about similar for more advanced photogs.
Love the idea epressed earlier for a series on off-camera flash and in particular types, uses and tips of wireless triggering. Larry could easily do a Cheap Shots segment related to the series.
cheers
Very helpful show guys.
As usual another great episode. Just got turned on to these and now check often for new episodes. See you in Seattle, Matt!
I love lenses!
Great show guys!!
Side note… All the gear you show is black and when you wear black shirts, it makes it difficult to see.
Awesome show for me since I am a beginner DSLR user.
Love the show………did I mention that I have never won anything !!!
You two would be a blast to go shoot with.
I feel like I know you both, just from watching the shows. Thanks for what you do.
Great program!
Great show guys! I think I have far too many camerabags now
Could you possibly do a show on your own settings for each different kind of shooting scenario (and mostly why you chose them)
Thanks!
thanks as always — even the greenhorn talk is interesting and useful. You guys, well, rock.
Good info!
Nice show…
This show was the perfect one for me! Really Awesome! The best collection of infos and tips i have seen.
Could you maybe do something about bokeh sometime? i saw a couple of things about bokeh but i kinda didn’t get the essence of it.
Thanks Guys!
Hi Guys great show as always, I would love to win the books haven’t won anything for years, not even an arguement.
Keep up the great work.
Thanks Guys!
Good job on a the show.
BH40 on the way…Ouch.. Well its really for the grandkids….
I’ll be a smart a$$ and point out that you’re talking about the 50mm f/1.8 showing off a 50mm f/1.4.
And I’ll add something constructive:
- I love my 3yr old LowePro CompuDayPack.
http://vladdodan.ro/blog/2010/07/27/019-the-best-backpack/
Great episode. Thanks
Greater with each episode
Great show!
Hey, Matt! Where did you get your t-shirt? I love it! Another excellent show, keep up the good work.
Sugestion: Making a program about neutral density filters
I purchased mine from Cafepress.com Just go to the site and search “Photography” and you’ll get a nice list of shirts.
You guys rock…Just watched your last show…great content. Could you do a show on refectors…types…sizes…and what makes you guys use. Thanks.

Boy, I’d really love to have that new layers book! of Matts. If you let me win it I’ll go to Milt’s Diner and eat a cheeseburger for you!
Did you guys forget that, in Nikon land, the 50mm f/1.8D does not autofocus on the entry level DSLRs?
Thanks Guys!
Great show!!
What is a good store to get all that stuff?
Another Great show !
Great show!
Great tips for beginners
You guys rock
Amazing show. Great job!
Good show keep on going guys!
Great information. Always good to go back and review dslr information we take for granted.
Just wondering why you recommended the Nikon 70-300mm lens over the new 55-300mm as a secondary starter lens. Thanks for the info–great show!
Loved the last show. It was nice to be refreshed about basic equipment that I still haven’t bought.
Another great show – thanks guys. I will be at corey’s cs5 seminar in Livonia, Mi next Friday – looking forward to it.!!!
Ihave been agonizing about tripods for months. I guess I am going tohave to decide soon. Your show reinforced advice I have seen elsewhere. Very good show. I wish I had had some of that advice earlier.
Thanks for reminding me to keep my lens pen HANDY, and not at home!
Keep on D-Townin’
Another excellent show. Any chance of doing a show re” putting together a portfolio – ideal print size, content, matted or not, what type of box or holder to put them in, etc.?
Where’s Moose Peterson ? Can we get some more Wildlife tips. Like shooting birds in flight.
Thanks…..
2 things:
1) The email is NOT hidden, the last poster’s (not me) email was set up as the default.
2) This last May, I bought a Gitzo CF travel tripod (GT0531) & ball head (GH1780QR). I paid WAY more than the range you suggested on this show. The tripod collar won’t tighten so the few times I raise the post it slips down and the post spins even when the ball head is locked. ALSO the soft pad on the QR plate slips on the plate, causing the camera to tip down when composing a vertical shot.
I figured since you were so kind to warn us about US Airways on your blog, I could warn folks about my over $660 mistake. It was actually $666 – I should have known something was amiss!
Its so cool.. Its the weekly update i will check in every week!! way to go guys!!
I recommend a Sagebrush Dry waterproof bag for outdoor work.
Hey YOU GUYS! I just bought a tripod for $4.00!!
Great show. You really did give out a lot of good information for people just starting out.
Great show guys. I want to win Layers book. If not… I will have to buy it!
I am buying Moose’s Captured as well. Speaking of Moose, I have not seen any of his photography tips for a while.
Scott & Matt, again another great show. I am not a beginer but I still can learn from what you guys have to say. Thanks much. PS I still need to get a 50mm. Maybe Christman?
Nice show guys, the topics were very good for beginners.
You guys are so helpful. I now have a comprehensive list of all the things I need. I’ve been wanting to buy good glass to replace my kit lenses, and now I feel like I have the knowledge to get the ones I need.
If there’s any way to talk a little bit about lens hoods, I’d really appreciate it. I see it on some cameras and not on others. No one ever really talks about them.
Thanks so much. Can’t wait till the next episode.
hi guys! id like to thank you for another informative show. hope you can do some tutorials on ringflash. thanks and have a great weekend!
want that book guys lol
Loved it!
You guys are like a layered couple!
thanks for another useful show
Genial! Grüße aus Österreich. =)
Very informative and fun show. Keep up the good work.
Hello Scott and Matt ! It’s hello from Latvia.
I am watching your show from begining, great show, everytime something new, or welltimed repeat. Thanks.
So here a request, is it possible for you guys tell some tips for night time photography, for instance is it better to raise ISO or lower the shutter speed to get great shot, and tell what are the basic equipment for it.
Will wait for next episode.
P.S. sorry for grammatical mistakes =)
Great show as always guys!
Thanks once again. Great show.
good show
Excellent introduction video! Awesome show !
Please go on for ever !
Great show.
THANKS !
Cool info! Thanks!
Loved the show…really hit home…can’t wait for the next one!
Great show! Great tips for entry level dslr users.
I’m pretty sure you showed the AF-S 50mm f/1.4 when you suggested the AF-D 50/1,8, the lens showed no aperture ring (so it’s a G lens and the 1.8 is not) or do you already have a AF-S 50/1,8 ??? That would explain everything
Nice show though…
Can you guys cover how to use a distance scale in order to achieve the best sharpness/detail in landscape images? Thanks!
I have Scott’s book set and it is great. Looks like Mats book is a must have .
As always, a great resource for budding photographers!. Thank you!
Another terrific show. I’m always able to find something new to think about… and buy after watching. Thanks so much.
Larry, I love your show!! Thanks for inviting Scott and Matt too!!
Great show. Scott when is your forth book coming out?
Maybe you could do the same stile of show on the different types of shooting, star trails, sports, landscape, portrait, product, etc.
thanks for another great episode!
Great show guys! How about a show on macro photography.
Love your shows – thanks!
another great show guys. Would love to see how you pack your personal camera bags as well as tripods when traveling
I would love the Layers book, especially a signed copy. It would be so beneficial. I have several of your books Scott and they are great.
Awesome show as usual.
Janet
Just thought you should know that when I go to leave a comment, I can see the last persons name and email address in the fields that should be blank
Great stuff!
Hello I am from Denmark but I see your show every week, and I think the episode nr. 58 was very good.
I am new to this dslr world so the buying tips is super for me.
Bent from Denmark
Hi Guys, how ya doing!
WOW! WOW! WOW! How did I miss this podcast for so long. I downloaded all the past episodes. Great show. Big fan of Kelby products and Ps. Please keep helping newby like myself!
Hi Guys!
Great show again.
Great series guys !! I really enjoy watching D-Town TV.
Love the shows. The Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lacks an internal motor so it won’t autofocus on some entry level Nikons. The 35mm f/1.8 lens (~$200) has the motor and also may give a better working range, since on a DX body it’s effectively a 52mm lens.
Great show, my wife now understands why I spent $400 on a tripod –yeah sure
Would love Matt’s great new book and that other one
Thanks for another great episode!
great show
Allways look forward to the show – send books
good info, entertaining show.
PICK ME!
Come to Sweden in Europe!
Great show! Hey, in return I may have a quick tip for YOU guys. It’s about tethered shooting and using an L-bracket. Check it out:
http://trick77.com/2010/11/06/shooting-tethered-vertically-using-an-l-bracket-on-a-ball-head/
Feel free to use that tip in your show if you like it.
Great show!
Good reinforcement about using a UV filter as I had my first “saved by the UV filter”incident last month.
Great show
Great show this week. Thanks.
great show ! keep it up
Another KelbKloskular show guys!
Another KelbKloskular show!
Great episode as usual. Something I learned last month at DLWS. The circular polarizer can be used to reduce the light so you can get that silky water at waterfalls and rivers. I tried it and got outstanding results.
Keep up the good work.
Great show. How about a show on monitor calibration…
Best show to date!
Great show, especially the Lense suggestions.
One question: Larry mentions the “dumb slave” flash. What’s the best way to look for one online? Any brands? What do we call it?
Thanks!
Slave Flash

Thx guys
Thanks for another informative and great show!!!
A great show!!! I going to purchase a Up Strap today.
Would love information on color manangement between camera, PC, and printer.
Thanks for sharing so much great information each week.
Great Show! More gear = bigger camera bag!
Thanks Guys another great show
I’m new to photography and watched this show before I got a DSLR. Now I have a Nikon D80 and have accumulated a couple of lenses, one of which is the 70-300. Being retired it looks like I’ll have to save up for a good tripod. I learn a lot from your show and hope to learn from the books. Thanks, and keep up the good work, guys!
great show guys, also I would have to agree with getting a great tripod and ball head I regret not getting one, I have a pistol release ball head and I hate it, save up the money for getting the great tripod and ball head.
good job.
Another great show guys!
For a show idea, what about something on the new Nikon D7000?
Great show!!!!
Great Show. As a beginner it was really informative.
Hi Scott and Matt, greetings from Bulgaria! I love all of your shows (still watching your old episodes). And guess what, every time when I have some question pops in my mind – I find the answer in some of your shows. Thank you for making me better photographer with all of your advises. I have only one question, do you plan to make KelbyTV paid? For countries like mine you’re the light in the tunnel in photography and I hope that I will be able to watch you again in the future. I wish you all the best and to be always the best as you are now.
Nice info! Maybe a little review of ball and 3d heads, which one is better to buy to each part of photography
alright moving on up to 361 compared to last week were i was 5 hundred and something… but you guys rock
Hi guys! sorry for not in theme
I have a terrible problem – on my D40 after taking a shot a white dot appears on every photo it is horror for me
is there any solution to remove this ever?
thanks great info
Great stuff, guys! Thanks for the links!
Thanks for another great show.
I got a couple questions. I now have a D90 and I can more easily access setting son it compared to my old D40. The only thing is I have trouble when I want to manually choose the ISO settings vs auto-ISO.
Another questions, why does the camera limit the shutter speed to 200?
Thanks
JP
I am looking forward to my first Kelby Training seminar on Monday in DC.
What is it that makes a ball head tripod such a necessary item. i know that everyone, but me uses them. but i am still using the old fashioned two lever kind. my point is that i have tried the ball head tripods, but i can’t seem to figure out what it does for me except take up more time in getting my image in focus and the right angle
Thank you for an awesome show. I bought my Canon Rebel XT about 4 years ago, and I’m still learning something new everyday. I shot a lot of low light performing arts (theater) of my kids and always struggle with setting and lens. Very informative show!!!!
what is it that makes a ball head tripod head such a necessity. i have used the ‘two lever’ kind for over 50 years and can not for the life of me get used to using a ball head tripod
what is it that makes the ball head tripod such a necessity. i have been using the two lever kind for over 50 years and for the life of me, i can not see the advantage of the ball head over the other kind. i have tried the ball head and can not get a good fix on my subject with them
Great show!
Although I started with film 35mm cameras, I got some good ideas on how to move forward with my digital. A follow on program for starting digital photography may be to address digital editing. What free and low costs programs are available and the pros and cons of the programs. You could include a segment on RAW and/or jpeg for saved images.
Sweet!!!
Awesome Show Guys! Love D-Town!
I’ve bought most of your books, I would really like an autographed one. Thanks for the always useful tips.
Did Matt really say, “Circular polarizer – The whole circular part is that once you put it on this kind of turns”????????
Great show as usual! Thanks a lot about mentioning that my tripod should last for years … my wife watched it and there’s NO WAY i’m getting another one.
Hey guys, good show.
I often use film cameras and Medium Format as well as my D40 and D90. Plus I have a lot of slides from years past that I would like to digitize. How about a segment or show on scanning film/photos? What are best quality/value scanners out there?
Thanks.
great show!
Hey Scott and Matt, hello from Pittsburgh
Perhaps you would consider a show on photographing photographs to turn them into digital images, along with lens and copy stand suggestions.
Awesome advices for newbies.
Keep it up!
As usual U guys rock but I think you need some makeup on ur foreheads since its so shiny u can see the cameraman in the reflection so plz get sponsored by Max Factor since i think they will agree. And I also wish to see something about lightmeters. Thx for all lovely episodes!!
Thanks for another great show.
Thanks for the Starter DSLR show. I totally agreed with your suggestions but I thought you left one thing out. I think someone who is just starting out owes it to themselves to get a starter flash like an SB-600. I know it’ll add a fairly complicated tool to their equipment, but the sooner you get started the sooner you learn the advantages of moving away from the built in flash.
awesome show as always!
~Mattman
great show
Thank you for this episode of DTown TV. You provided a lot of practical information for beginners in one place. I wish I had seen a show like this 20+ years ago before I started building my first camera bag full of gear.
One of the things I thought was missing was information about a protective covering over the LCD display screen on the back of the camera body. Since there are a few different ones available, which one(s) work well. (For example: minimal reflective glare, easily removable and replaceable when they become too scratched up, etc.)
You may also want to consider making an episode like this one that looks at the software side of DSLR photography. (Maybe touching on things like Canon DPP, Photoshop Elements, image noise reduction, etc…)
On a separate note, you now have 58 episodes of DTown TV available on line.
(Which I would guess is about 17 hrs of total viewing time.)
It would be nice if you could provide an index on your web site for people that want to go back and view information on particular topics. For example: where (what episode number and approximately how many minutes into the episode) to find information on flashes, camera modes (Shutter/Aperture/Manual) , HDR photography, lenses, dealing with back lighting, camera metering modes, etc…)
Thank you for providing a show like this.
great episode, great prizes, let me win one pls
Hi Guys! Great show, as usual.
Can you guys index the subjects covered in each show and make them searchable? Sometimes months go by and I want to rewatch a segment on an idea or technique (especially for PSUTV) and have to click on a bunch of episodes until I find the right one.
Thanks
GREAT SHOW!!!
another top show guys,
.
also would love the books as a birthday present for the 5th nov thanx if i win
also would like to see more on battery packs and batteries foro cameras what to use and what not to use.
Love the tips, and the show…great to watch. Spent most of my rainy Saturday watching past shows…would love to enter contest for the books.
Thanks again.
Michael N.
Another excellent episode
You guys Rock!
Short and sweet on tripods. Could you please go over which monopod to buy? That would be great, thanks. Maybe pick a few great ones in fitting depending on the body+lens combo you shoot. For instance I’m looking for one suitable for my D700 and 70-200 vrII
Cheers

thanks a lot for this show
waiting for the new show
Good episode, especially for ppl starting up photography.
Thank you, it was very interesting and especailly the links to the products
Great show. Thanks for tips on tripods and ballheads, perfect timing for me
I would think, if you use your slr for video, a ball head would not be too great.
Great show once again. Can not wait for the next
Great show! Keep up the good work
You guys ROCK!!
Excellent show! I asked my wife to watch it with me as she is interested in getting more involved with photography. I agree with the suggestions about creating an index of your shows. that would be very helpful.
Hey Guys, Great show! The thing that caught my attention was the Upstrap. I’m off to get one. I was on vacation in NE and my camera was constantly falling off my shoulder. Great tip! Oh, also I’m into getting another bag after this trip!
Again, nice job!
Dennis
A lot of great suggestions even for someone who has been involved in photography for years.
Keep going guys, luv it !!!!
Remembering the good old days
Would love a chance to win the Layers book!
I think you have shown not a 50mm f/1.8 but a 50mm f/1.4. Am I right?
Great Show Guys!!! I need the books, lol
re the uv filter. i was shooting in a rainy conditions, my lens got wet and i took off the uv filter (canon brand) and shot the rest without it. amazing how much better these were. better color and contrast AND shapness. i do not use a uv filter any longer.
hi guys. live in toronto ontario canada . when are you coming to do a workshop/seminar in toronto ?
Amazing show. I do so appreciate you guys putting these shows on. I have learned so much from you guys…Thanks
good job
You Guys Rock! I watch every week. Keep on shooting (photos not people) lol.
Great show and by the way does anyone need a camera bag. Just kidding my wife always wonder’s why I have 15 bags laying around. Look forward to next week…..
Cool show!
Thanks for the tips and recommendations.
Very Nice Guys.
Very Nice
Hi guys
Great Show
Great show guys. My wife just started taking an interest in photography and is learning he basics. She currently uses a Nikon D40 with an 18-200mm lens. Keep those tips coming.
Great show guys. Looking forward to your next lot!!!!!!!!!!!
great show guys
Great show!
Good show. As info I did purschase the upstrap several months ago. the metal parts has nicked and scratched the back of my D300. Although it might not fall off your shoulder, it is garbage, in fact thats what I did with mine. You might want to check out the Black Rapid R7. Great strap can carry the camara for hours. This has got to be the best strap ever made.
Keep up the good work. Thanks
Nice show.
Great shows, guys!
Another blockbuster. I’m going to send this to all my new photographer friends.
Another great show. I just finished Joe McNally’s Hot Shoe Diaries and now is the perfect time for my next photography book–would love either of your books. By the way … your “Leave a Reply” section indicates the e-mail address will be hidden, but when I went to leave a comment, I could see the e-mail address of the last person to leave one before me. You probably want to find a way to blank that out after each comment.
Thanks for all the tips they’re very helpful,.
Good stuff as always!
Bra program som vanligt. Jag vill gärna ha böckerna.
Hate that I have to wait a whole week between shows. Like to see some shows on posing people.
Another Gr8 show
Good show again!
Good stuff. Thanks!
Did you guys use different mics for this episode? There’s a bit of echo and room noise. Good concept for a show. Definitely time for a new strap and a decent tripod, no more of this hand-me-down stuff.
Just another great show guys }:0)
Another great show guys
Great episode. I can finally say that I am off “student status” when it comes to photography, but I love that you still provide the basics. I would not have lasted since the beginning of D-Town if you were only catering to professional. Thank you!
Thanx guys
hi guys
best show ever
ngbj
Hope I win
Great series !
So, Matt why did you switch ??
Great series guys !!
So, Matt why did you switch?
Great Series Guys !
Matt why did you switch ??
Fantastic episode guys! This is very informative for the new photographer. Thanks for keeping the show going so well!
Hey guys. Quick question. I bought a Nikkor 50 mm 1.8 (Bokehlicious lens
and was wondering if it should include the rear cap and the lens hood? The only thing I got in the box is a little translucide piece of plastic to act as a rear cap.
Cheers!
Fred
hey guys great show! Great tips for beginners, was looking for this for a while!
keep up the good work !
i think i’m gonna get one of those nikon 50mm 1.8. thanks for the tips.
You guys are great. I just found out about the show and I spent the entire weekend watching all of the past episodes, even the Nikon specific shows. It took a while but now I am caught up and ready for more of this great information you have to offer. Thanks for doing what you do.
Great show.
Awesome as usual. Can you do a small segment on shooting tethered with LR3?
Matt, congratulations on the book.
Can’t wait ’till Xmas… hope Santa will get me one!
Though it won’t be signed then… oh well
Great show!
Love the shows, so much to learn, so little time.
good Job!
Hi Guys
Another great show!!! Do you guys every sleep with all the things you seem to be doing?
A section on different tripod heads might be cool.
i.e. use, weight, suitability etc.
You guys continue to rock.. pretty much a must watch for me via podcast.
keep up the good work..
It’s just a coincidence that I was looking at Matt’s “layers” book on Amazon and drooling… so this is really hoping that I get the book giveaway this week
Great Show.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Hi Guys,
Great Show, you actually just said a story of what happened to me. I got an entry level DSLR camera and updated the body then bought a little expensive tripod and a ball head then an 18-180 mm lens and a few more stuff like you mentioned ( I use Olympus E-30 by the way) but it don’t matter to me, as long as I can do the tips that you say on the show, i’m good with that. i just have one question in my mind right now that I want to ask you guys, what advantage will I get if I use a full frame DSLR body like to E-3 / E-5. Will there be a big difference?
Thanks
Terve!
I ditto the idea above about indexing the content of your previous videos. I’ve also only started watching them and they are so good but, obviously, some things are more important to me now than others.
Oh, and I already bought your three volume series — you really should have included it in your necessary items for a beginning photographer. They are incredibly good–I cannot say enough about them. (But I’d still like the layers book).
The thing about bags is so true. I have 5 of them. But amaizingly for laptop I bought just one.
Great Show. How about some next steps for us beginners (in tough situations): shooting indoor high school sports, family birthday shots in poor light and other non pro situations that we all have to deal with.
Thanks again for a great show, I’m a big fan have your books and love the podcasts.
Hi! Great show as always!
It would be great if you could make a show about macro-photography!
This was a great introduction to DSLR equipment. I have been playing around with my Canon Rebel for the past 5 years now and feel it’s time to step up my game. Scott and Matt gave some excellent information that I can use to move from novice to amateur. Thanks guys! Question: Is a monopod a good idea for travel and sports or is it a waste of time?
Great show guys. I’d love to see the next with an intro to flashes show.
Great show guys. I’d love to see the next step with an intro to flashes show.
hi, a newbie here… a question: if i put a dx lens (let’s say af-s dx nikkor 35mm f/1.8G) on a dx body (d90), would my photos be 35 or 52.5 equivalent?
Another great site with good tips, Cheap Shots could get its own show, but DTown must also remain, we like your show too much
p.s. and i wouldn’t mind winning the prises either :p
I know you guys are big into Photoshop. I use Elements 8, and I think it is a perfect solution for the beginning photographer or someone that doesn’t do a lot of manipulation. A comparison of the differences would be an awesome show for your viewers.
Hi.
Great tips .
I am on my 2nd tripod, now its time to get a good one. Thanks!
I enjoyed the entry level show, which made me think of a give a way. I have been saving up for the year subscription to Kelby training and thought that would be a good give a way. Not sure if you have already done that yet.
As always a great show! I’ve tried a few different straps but they keep sliding. Time to move up to the upstrap! Thanks, I always come away from these with at least one tip.
Nice show. Free books are nice also.
Hey Guy’s I would like to see a program about flash, I know you did a series, but I mean how to use flash in manual mode, like how GN work, everything just about manual mode, please !!!
Thank you for a great show!
great show!
Great show!
good show!
Loved the show as always.
Really enjoyed the show. So, Matt, why did you change to Nikon?
Another great one guys. I look forward to the show every week. Also great for reference. I go back to previous shows all the time. Fetter than reading the manual
Great episode. I have learned more from you two over the years about the tools of the trade than I can recount. You always make it easy to understand with great results. I am really enjoying D-Town.
Great show, guys.
Pick me for Matt’s book – I’d really appreciate it – (don’t feel bad, Scott – I already have yours)
Great tips – I really liked the one about using the flash off camera.
Another informative show.
great show guys
Great show again! Please more about tripots and ballheads. Marco to.
Thanks!
Love the show. Wish I could afford the Gitzo.
Great show as always guys. However I have to disagree with using a UV. There really isn’t a need to cut UV light when taking photos – but thats not my main gripe. The whole fear that a scratched lens is a horrible life ending thing for the lens is just not true, unless you shoot at f/22 or greater all the time, even if the scratches are huge and deep and look like a tiger got at them – you’ll NEVER see them in the photo. Most people shoot at f/11 and below for most situations.
Here’s a test you can do to illustrate what I am saying is true. Set your lens to f/2.8 or its largest aperture setting. Then put a pencil right in the middle of your lens, right up against the glass. Now look thru your viewfinder – amazingly you will not see the pencil at all! Now think of how thick that pencil is – do you really think a scratch will show up? Nope.
I know a lot of pros that will throw the lenses in their bags without the caps on either end. The lenses have some scratches – but unless you’re going to sell them again to someone who gives a rats behind if theres a tiny scratch – no big deal.
Have to say, a little jealous about some of the gear I’m seeing, and to make things worse, it seems like prices are much more expensive in Canada than what you guys quote things cost in the US (and that’s even with a CAD near parity with the US). Thanks for all the good product reviews though.
Hey guys great episode. Thanks for the info on tripods really useful.
Choose me you know you want to.
Good info as usual. Maybe you could cover the topic of watermarking images, and best practices.
Out standing show, I really like the Larrys helpfull tips.
good stuff
Totally agree about the 18-200 lens as a starter lens. I got that lens with my first DSRL Nikon D40, and it is really a do everything one. I now have almost all the range from 11 to 200mm in f2.8, but kept the 18-200 for traveling and that kind of stuff. the 50mm is also a great choice.
Hi
Love the show…
Thanks Guys, If I come in second this week, could I have a Gitzo and the RRS Ballhead?
Thanks Again.
Love the show!
Thanks for another informative show!!
can we see use of on & off flash in different modes that cameras can do thanks
Don’t stop what your doing It’s helping alot of people and we are very gratful. I would like to know how to use GNDF’s. do you exspose for the forground first then add the filter. Could use your help guy’s
Thanks
Kelly Roy your Canadian fan….
I want one!!
Hi, pick me, great show, pick me please!
Great show guys
Enjoy your stuff– even though I have been taking pics for years– review is a good thing. Keep up the good work
Tom
Wow I’ve learned a lot… super thanks!!!
I’m a bag addict for sure! Thanks for covering it!
Very Cool show.
I have a tip for the Nikon D700.
When I shoot landscapes I found a little trick two weeks ago. I put the setting on to mirror up I then have exposure delay mode turned on then pressed a button on the back of the body AF I have this set to focus, so I focus on what I want then recompose then press then press the shutter release cable button an then about 31 sec later it will fire by it self.
This is great when shooting when it is windy because I can then stand back and protect the camera from shake and get a tack sharp shot.
great beginner tips guys. Can you cover some behind the scenes type stuff?
Cheers
I loved the first layers book, can’t wait until i can pickup the next!
Another corker of a show. Keep it up guys
I’m from Portugal and I see all episodes.
Tnahk you for your good ideas. I’d love if you don’t show only nikon and canon camera stuff but, ok
Pedro
Hi guys! Another great one; fun show with lots of humor and helpful tips!! Keep it up!!
Thanks for the informative show!
always great guys!
Great show for newcomers to DSLR photography
I sure enjoyed the information from Larry Becker’s “Cheap Shots”. Good stuff.
OK, I enjoyed the entire show.
I sure learned something from Larry Beckers “Cheap Shots”. Learned some stuff from you as well.
Actually I enjoyed the entire show.
Getting better all the trime, passed this show on to all my beginner friends!
Great advice for new photog’s or even some of us old dogs trying to learn in the new digital era. You guys have become my new “must see” every week, and I appreciate very much that you have included Canon in your segments.
I am getting hooked on your show. I am surprised at how much I learn on each show.
Great show for beginners now we need more advanced episodes.
thanks
I have the UP strap, can’t go anywhere with it. BUT it is a lot heavier than a “normal” strap that comes with your camera. I had my camera on a table, strap was over the side of the table, someone picked it up for me, didn’t expect the weight (and it caught the corner of the table) and dropped it. Straps are supposed to help protect, this is one time that it did the reverse. (Not UP strap’s problem…)
awesome show!
This epsiode couldn’t have come at a better time. My cousin is about to buy his wife her first DSLR and he asked me for resources to learn about photography and Photoshop. I of course told him about Kelby Training and I’ll be sure to point him to D-Town and this episode.
Great show as always guys!
NAPP really ought to sell the Columbia shirt embroidered with the NAPP logo that Larry was wearing. I buy one in a heartbeat!
Have been a fan from 1st show.
Tip that should be mentioned for all beginners.
Buy a wacom tablet, it comes with discounts for photoshop CS .
Keep up the good work.
Hey guys- take a look at Induro tripods. They’re about 2/3 the cost of Gitzo and very good quality. Thanks
Another great show!
Thanks from Bulgaria!
Thanks again. Looks like you got me to spend some more of my hard earned cash.
Enjoyed another great show. Keep it up!!!
Scott and Matt you guys are awesome!!!! I always look forward to the next episode. more power to you!
Can you make this a daily show??? Seriously, once an episode is over I can’t wait for more!
I love Canon…can you show more Canon items?
Great run-down of essential equipment!
Great show!
I love your show guys and Scott your humour is great.
suggestion for another episode: talk about external flash usage, for example I have problems with too much of orange color when shooting indoors
[...] a new DSLR? Episode 58 | D-Town TV Episode 58 is for [...]
As usual, nice show (I wish it was iPad friendly on kelbytv.com but I found another online src blip.tv)(it’s also hard to find on YouTube when you know which episode you’re after).
How about doing a show on ‘don’t follow the crowd’ where you show off 10 or so unnatural ways of shooting pics. You could include simple examples like ‘shooting moving targets while sitting on a skateboard’ or ‘shooting underwater’ or taking your camera to a steam bath (what to worry about or not) to ‘rigging your camera and interferometer to a kite’ to ‘slit-screen photography’… Or using funny lens attachments to get stereo pics, lens babies, infrared… (that’s already 5!)… How about, ..
Just a thought!!
Shawn from Switzerland

Ps. I do a lot of tango photography. After doing low light work, I’ve now gotten into using 1 or 2 off camera flashes. I’ve heard of people using flash at really weak values (1/128th power) to get a bit of flash help without becoming a nuisance. What’s the deal here? Isn that kinda too weak to be useful? And in the dark, every flash is a nuisance, to my dance subjects
Cheers!
Thank you for going over the basics. I have sent out 25 email letters to beginners to reinforce my suggestions.
Could you guys do a bit on How To Auto Focus Fine Tune Your Lens?
How ’bout a show on ‘No no’s
E.g. Don’t mix rechareable batteries of different make or recharge-age in your flashes
Or
Don’t move your camera into warm house from out of the cold (or else.. How to solve that prob)
Or
Don’t change your lense with the hole of the lenseless camera facing up (metal shavings nicely drop into your camera body to end up on the sensor)
Or
Don’t turn on VR if you’re using a tripod.
Or
Don’t erase your memory card once you’ve transferred your images…. (until you’ve checked that the transfer finished and is ok)
Or
Don’t forget to change your camera clock when you’re travelling and you’re hoping to geolocate your pics with a GPS log (I solve this by shooting clocks whenever I see them)
Etc.
What other don’ts can u come up with?
Shawn

Great Show! I was wondering if you could do a show for christmas, maybe like DLSR christmas list for ideas for christmas gifts. Also would you be able to do something on different types of lenses and which one to buy. For example what macro lens to buy or what wide angle lens to buy.
Thanks Great Show Again!
Thanks for this show and understanding that everyone is not a pro , yet.
Hi guys,
Good show (again). I would like a show about wide angle photography (lenses, technique, approach, tips,…)
Thanks,
You guys are so helpful. Thanks so much for this show. I was doing the training but cannot afford it right now but will do it as soon as I can! I recommend it to everyone who has an interest in photography. Thanks again.
Hi guys, how ya doing? lol
I am waiting to get the 18-200mm, but your advise regarding a tripod was invaluable. I have been puzzled for a long time about which tripod to go for and the ones you mention are expensive, but I guess it is a long-term investment and I will get a good one. Thanks Scott and Matt.
Hey guys, how ya doing? lol
great show guys – like the idea of having a shot for the real begineers. Good targetting.
Great show guys! This is my first time of watching and i will say it was very educative and worthwhile. Thanks once again.
Hey guys would like to see a review on D7000. Thanks!
Now I want to buy a new bag !
You always giving a bunch of interesting tips. I would like to see a specific filter show, and their final results with specific examples.
Thanks for your show guys
Do you have any well defined strategy for selling off your used photo gear?
Hee jochies,
Leuke show
Another great show, keep it up.
Got a question, what are all settings that are saved in the custom bank?
I like your show. Have you ever experimented with Lensbaby? Would like to learn about your experience.
Graet show on Entry Level DSLR shooting !
Great tips!!! I followed u two every single episode!!
Great tips!! I learnt a lot! Thanks!
just the kind of show i wanted
hi guys!
I’ve been watching ever since the first episode, keep up the good work guys!
Very nice!!!
Great Show guys
Great show guys! What about a low light show?
Always interesting. BUT, I was looking for the suggested zoom lens for a full frame (Canon 5D) and it doesn’t seem to exist. What would you suggest for my camera? I have the 25-105L.
Hi guys!
I really like the show, but please get rid of the old computer desk with the monitor stand. The monitor stand blocks the view of what is laid on the table…..
Keep up the good work!
Sam
Another great show as always
About camera bags…
Since I have shot in NYC since the mid 70″s (yes, I am old), I have never carried my cameras in a camera bag (which screams “stick a gun in my bag and take my cameras”). In the 70′s I would by inexpensive leather bags from the Cow’s Outside on Greenwich St. It had a big inside bag for cameras and pockets on the outside for 2 extra lenses. Over the years they have had additional pockets inside or out here or there, but they never screamed “cameras inside”. Welcome to life in NYC!
Bill
AWESOME SHOW!!! Very helpful for those people out there debating on which lens to buy. Keep up the great job guys!
A comment
My comment from yesterday didn’t post. Second week in a row.
It would be nice to get some confirmation that the comment was submitted and is awaiting approval.
Great show!
Great show, great tips
Thank you guys!
Great show as always. But….. where is the flash light???
Guys… congratulations, I loved the entry level episode… can you make one episode focused on landscape photography?
thanks!
Great show, really good idea to make an episode with a single theme, would love to see more of those, with stuff like wildlife, sports, portraits etc.
Love the show. Would love some stuff on low key photography, as well as what to look for in beginning studio lighting. (Are the kits any good? Can I get as good of results with shop lights from hardware store?)
Thanks!
Great show as always. Love the Layers book!
I’m a huge fan from Germany! And i hope you guys will come to Europe soon…
OMG I think I discovered gold! Actually not but pretty darn close with Scott’s book for Lightroom 3. I love your Dtown episodes especially this one. I watch Matt’s Killer tips one faithfully too. I watch you so much that you feel like personal friends. Keep up the good work can’t wait for Episode 59!!
Another excellent episode, but hold those items up and still for the poor camera operator — your are really making that guy work.
Love to see some presentation tips for sideshows.
great stuff
Hey, loved the show. One comment though. Could you please stop wearing black shirts, it’s hard to see the cameras and stuff because well…they’re black. Just saying.
Keep it up guys!
Hi Guys,
Can you discuss active d-lighting?
Thanks
another great show
Hey, Trying to view this article on an EVO 4G and am having hassles. I can’t get the menu to load right. Just wanted you to know, Cheers!
Great show guys. Could you do a future episode on amateur photogs who have made some phenomenal shots and now would like to entertain options on how and where to sell the photos. Some recommended companies and sites would be helpful.
you guys are awesome, too late to win the prize?
Terrific show guys!
Any tips on how to produce good quality HDR Pano shots? I’ve used Photomatix & PS HDR Pro with good results for the first, and Pano platforms for the latter, but don’t know anything that can do both…
Great info, would be awesome to actually see all the black gear that is hidden by your black shirts ( I know…..required wearing) and the useless shelf on the table. I would love to win the two books!
Congrats on the new book, Matt.
It is always great to review the basics.
I found all this very helpful as I’m pretty new to this photography world. And you guys do Rock!
Always enjoy the show. How about a live step by step demo of sensor cleaning? I think you’ve mentioned some products before but it would be nice to see it done live. Thanks!!
Hey guys, there has been a lot about Street Photography in the press here in the UK recently. Do you gave any tips for getting better candid public shots?
Rob
awesome show, as every week
Great show. In your show, you talked about UV filters. I heard others argue that you ruin the quality of the pic if you use a $20 filter on an expensive lens. Is this true?
Thank you guys so much for all the tips. I am a stat at home mom who loves taking pictures of my four amazing daughters. I would love to do more but would like to learn more. I got my first DSLR around the same time we lost our 6th child, so photography has become really dear to my heart.
Once again thanks.
Coool! THX for everything!!!
Enjoy your episodes a great deal. Scott, black on black makes it hard to see a lot of the items your showcasing, but , I’ll still keep on watching.
Is it possible if I used a bit of your template design for my own forum? I’ve found it’s nicer to ask than steal! Thank you!
Hey guys, long time fan of the show here, started since first episode! Just dropping in to say well done and keep up the good work!
Quick suggestion for future episodes: can you guys do a segment on monitor calibration?
Thanks!
Already passed on the link to my sis, a newbie! Thanks.
Better get signing those books Matt
Scott, I thought that you had previously recommended pistol grip ball heads. Now, it seems like you are against them…? What’s the word?
Great show guys! Been watching since the beginning. Could you do a show where we follow you through a shoot? From pre-production all the way to final delivery?
Great show – You Guys just Rock!!!
Thanks for the great tip on the Upstrap!
Good Info
I am also someone who saved a lens by having a UV filter on. Interestingly I dropped my camera because I was using the kit camera strap. So I now I use UV filters and after market camera straps.
What I love about you guys is that regardless of how many things you are doing and how many places you go you still take time to share your ideas with us to make us better! Thanks!!
Great show(S) Alot of info and resources.
Great show. I will have to look into the Upstrap. It is good to know that I was already on the correct path with my len collection. Thanks.
Didn’t mention purchasing flash/es. How about a show on types of flashes an accessories to use with them.
Great show!
I love all of your shows and books. Always helpful and no matter what, I always learn something new. Could you maybe produce a show on the art of selling your images. Any advice and tips on making the sale would be great!
Thanks for the info about lenses! It’s quite relevant for me right now!
Cool Show.
Great show guys!
Do you by any chance know a ballhead which does not contains any metals (fully carbon fiber or something)
Great show guys! I too would love a show about proper macro shooting. Including getting really high magnifications (greater than 1:1).
Please enter me for the book contest.
Great info on camera gear… also liked Mike Olivella’s quest post at Scott’s blog on Nov. 3rd. How about a show on used equipment? Yeah I know your sponsors won’t like it, but I can’t be the only old school photogragher getting back (20 yrs gone) into the business that doesn’t have 6 or 7 grand to spend on new gear. Thanks.
Your shows are great. You must have great behind the scene help.
Circular polarizer does not mean that the filter is round or that the circular part moves around! A linear polarizer can look and spin exactly the same but works differently. The circular vs. linear is how the lenses filter light. None-the-less, you need a circular polarizer – not linear – for a digital SLR so that the TTL metering and autofocus work correctly.
You guys seem to do this every episode with some small but interesting or important detail! You need a fact checker on your team
thanks guys, as a true beginner this is great stuff! I look forward to expanding my knowledge by watching your show!!
[...] is the latest episode of DTown TV, the free weekly show for dSLR users that helps them get the most from their cameras. [...]
Nice comments on tripods. I have $25 tripod that I hate and still need to upgrade and spend $250 on a better one
This week’s episode had some really good information. Keep up the good work.
Like a piece of candy each week
At the risk of tearing a hole in the fabric of the universe, I have a production suggestion for your shows. Both of you really like your black T-shirts and they do look really cool; however you keep holding up black items to show us, the Upstrap would be one example, right in front of you and we can’t see the item. Holding things between you would help as you have a light colored studio, but just an easel card might solve the problem without replacing the T-shirts. I truly do enjoy the shows.
Great show, thanks.
Hi guys, watching you for the first time, and i just can say WOW. Most I like is larrycheapshop, great ideas costs nothing
Scott your three books are the best and would love to get them!! The episode was awesome.
I learned a lot from Matt’s old Layer’s book and really look forward to the new one.
You guys rock! Keep it up.
Very informative and helpful once again. Thanks!
Great show guys, you provide a great service to new photographers like myself.
Why haven’t I seen DTown before. Way cool. Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks for the great show.
I never liked to carry a camera with an on-the-shoulder or around-the-neck strap as many folks do. The Black Rapid R-Strap for photo walks and an Opteka hand/wrist strap for around the house.
Great Job guys, Watched since number 1
Great show. Perfect answer to all those friends who look at my camera and say “wow, I wish I had a DSLR.” I’ll send them to episode 58 to watch and learn.
How about a full show filled with tips on photographing children, posed and at play. I bet half your viewers bought a DSLR to take pictures of their kids.
Greetings from the Czech Republic. Thanks for great show.
Thanks for the tripod info. I need a decent ballhead without a huge price
.
There’s a bug in your comments. I went to leave a comment, and the previous commenter’s name and email address was there. His comment (#740) says, “Your comment is awaiting moderation” as if it’s my comment. I have a screenshot if you want to see it. I’m using Chrome on WinXP x64.
Love your show.
Regarding odd things you’ve done with your CF cards – I once hid one in my shoe while left in the hotel room, and next day I wore those shoes, walking around on said card – and I am still using it today! So some of those beasties are tough!
Matt, Matt, Matt. You almost got away with the circular polarizer faux pas – only 6 comments out of 739 picked you up on that, so that could be 733 will buy the wrong sort of polarizer just because it turns!
Great show!
Great episode… I already own the box set but only the old version of layers so would love to win the new one.
Cheers
Sue
Great tips.
your ideas on 50mm/1.8, camerabags and tripods are so true…
When you are planning another show, DNG or native RAW? Future proof? Time to process? DNG does not seem to support GPS data (or maybe it’s GPSphotolinker)?
Thanks
thanks, great episode, ove my ball head, thanks for the suggestion.
I am new to dslr so thanks for the tips in your show.
Just in time … one of my friends was asking me about some of what u showed here in this episode … u guys are mind readers …
thanx
Hey Guys, great episode. I would love Matt’s Layers book…already have Scott’s books.
Keep the episode coming, they are really informative.
nice show
Thank you, great epsode!
Great show Thanks so much for d town I love sharing your episodes and great tips with my students!
More meat! How about how to use a light meter and balance ambient with flash.
More how to techniques and not how to change settings in camera.
I never win but do watch
Thanks for another show!
Great show as always.
Very Nice again. Thanks.
How about some basic portrait tips (lens, lighting, angles for beginners), including non-studio shooting.
Wm
Thanks, for reminding me of all the mistakes I made a few years ago!!
interesting show. just found your site from your lightroom3 book that i just purchased.
Thanks for the show..
Good info.
great show
Thank you sooooo much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great show guys. Would love a show about lighting for beginners.
Thanks!
You guys are awesome!
No, really…
Great advice for new shooters. You guys rock!
Thanks so much for the great advice!
Hey guys great show. I am planning to go into photography as a hobby and seeing this particular episode really helped me a lot with regards on how to start on it. Thanks.
Recommended the website and in particular this episode to some newbies
Thanks guys
Nice show! You had some good tips for newbie’s, without diving into too much technical terms. And you also had a great motivation on why you should spend extra on tripod! I’m looking forward to next episode.
Another great show guys. I’m going to learn to be a doctor now so I can buy a decent tripod!!
I love your shows. I’m only 11 but your shows have taught me about photography. My mom is a NAPP member and I’m teaching myself about Photoshop. Luv you guys! I would also loooovvvveeee those books.
Great show. I’d like to see one on post-processing options for those that don’t have the $$$ for CS5. And I’d love to get Scott’s books.
Great show.
Always loved your show. Just wondering when you will start an episode on teaching the necessary checks required prior to the purchase of a new DSLR (ie. dead pixel on sensor, LCD, focusing issues and etc) ?
that´s great show keep it up!..Im looking forward for next episode
hello
i am from Belgium and i found this true de site of Scott Kelby and i love it.
I learn alot here
thank you
Greets
Great show guys! Love it every week!
Missed this one when renewing my membership at a recent conference.
Love DTown! Here’s a follow up idea–I recently went from P&S’s to a D90. I have the 70-300VRII but my night sports shots are still too noisy. I’m shooting at 300/f5.6, ISO 1600-3200. What upgrades could I make to improve performance for these type of situations without breaking the bank? Would upgrading to a top DX body do the trick or perhaps some faster glass like the 300/f4 or 180/f2.8 & teleconverter do the trick? Thanks for all the tips/tricks you guys put out, they really help me.
great episode…very helpful.
Scott, Matt –
Fine show with good info. Kinda surprised the “R-strap” didn’t get discussed when you were talking camera straps since Scott has raved about it elsewhere. It’s certainly the best strap I’ve ever used.
Now, what I’d like to see in an upcoming episode is a discussion of monopods: when (and when not) to use them and, more importantly, what kind of head works best (I know, the answer is “that depends” but I’d still like to hear the possibilities discussed).
Thanks!
Cary Talbot
Vicksburg, MS
Great episode as always. I am one of those new DSLR shooters. Great info.
Scott, I own and have read Volume 1,2 and 3. They have been very helpful in teaching me to shoot. I really like your writing style as well as how the book is positioned.
First time viewer….good show and I’ll be back for more. Thanks.
thanks so much for the info!
Good job, as always.
I have a suggestion. Why don’t you split your series between just arrived SLR users and Advance SLR users?
Thanks for the great tips! Newbie to the DSLR world and can’t get enough info right now.
Hey Scott, Matt, Brad & everyone else at kelbytv. I just completed watching every episode, 1-58, and I not only h ave you provided a lot of great tips and instruction… there have been a few laughs along the way! Thanks to you and the guests on your shows for everything you are doing for the art, hobby & profession of photography.
Guys,
You say the show is for all DSLR shooters but you never mention anything except Nikon and Canon. How about a show or at least a segment that gives some basic information about other brands?
Wishing I knew about this webcast when I first bought my DSLR. Thanks for all your advice & tips.
Great show.
As a follow up to your entry level DSL show, could you also do the same for software. Do I need Lightroom, Photoshop or Capture NX2. What should I buy first? And, what do you suggest for learning to use the software.
Love the show! Great tips.
thanks guys
Hello from a brand new subscriber to your podcast! Really enjoying the show, but have one feature request. I see you guys put all your links here on the site but it would be great to have them at the end of the episode too so we can just pause the video and go check out some of the links.
Thanks guys.
Hey guys, thanks for the show!!
Thanks again, I’d love to start the weekend with you show !
great show, can’t believe I’m a member and hadn’t watched it before… will now!
Great show! I just received my first DSLR camera!
I have the Nikon 18-200 mm lens and it’s great to know you use that lens. If you get a chance how about letting us know what body and lens sells the best.
Hello
I just get the Upscrap deleverd in the Nederlands.
I put it on the camera and….super. workt fine.
Only thing what i have done is using the plastic plate from the Nikon strap.Because the metal plate is scrathing over my display ( D90 ). Thank yoy for showing de Upstrap. Good tip like the rest of the show.

hai your shows is so great! i always enjoy and always been watching this from season one till now. ! keep it up guyz!
i have a question for you guys. you guys have been talking about nikon and canon lenses.so its good for nikon and canon users that has a lot of money to buy those expensive lenses like 14-24 f4, 70-200 f2.8 , 17-55 f2.8 etc.
my question is can u guys make a segment on doing 3rd party lenses. do they give the same quality as nikon and canon lenses? and they are so much cheaper than nikon or canon lenses. so i really hope you guys can do a segment on doing 3rd party lenses. comparing the price, quality of the lens body itself and quality of the pictures taken by 3rd party lenses.
thats all it is from me ! hehe keep it up on the good weekly shows! all the way! ill be watching u guys every time!
hai Matt , Scott! how are u guys doinG? nice man ! your shows are fantastic! should give you award man! haha
ok i have a question to ask from you guys. you guys have been talking about nikon and canon lenses and i think that its like expensive for some of us. like 14-24 f4, 70-200 f2.8, 17-55 f2.8 and etc.
why dont you guys talk about or make a segment on 3rd party lenses? its cheap and affordable for some of us that has a low income.
hope that you guys can share with us whats the difference? as in the quality of the body lens itself? quality of the pictures? the focus? the handling? hope you guys get it what Im trying to say haha
aite the that’s is for me.. keep up on the good weekly shows for us at home! my friends in Singapore love your segments so much man! never missed it!
Killer episode U guys.. A great show which I wish I saw a month ago.. when I bought my gear.. I might have done a few changes.. Cheers
:)
Great show guy’s…. very informative and helpful!
great show – you just confirmed what I had decided I need. A 28-200 lens.
Just need to save the $$ now. Have the Canon twin lens kit – 28-55 and 70-300. Had been thinking it would be wonderful to not have to change lenses.

Cool tips!
I was just about to chime in about the “circular” polarizer comment, but did a quick page search and realized someone beat me to it… a few times.
Nice episode, otherwise!

Thumbs up!! Love your show.
Love the shows. Do one about the differences between “L” lens and regular lens.

Excellent episode! I have and I like that upstrap strap. You guys as always rock!
I’ve been taking/making photos for a very long time, my first camera being a Polaroid, black & white only. Even after all this time, I still learn something from every show.
Great show – lots of variety and useful topics. Thanks!!
cool tips thank you very much
Another good show. I have Scott’s books and can recommend them to anyone.
Just discovered the episodes. Excellent! thanks for your work.
love your show
[...] strap that won’t slip off you shoulder take a look at the Up Strap recommended by the guys at D-Town Tv. The rubbery material with those “teeth” grip onto your shoulder to prevent slippage. [...]
Nice show… if only those brands were available here… and I had a budget
But moving slowly there…
great show guys!!! keep up the good work.
Great episode as usual!
Love the show. Keep em coming!
Gret show guys!
Another great show! I really appreciate Scott and Matt for doing this show and teaching us so much.
Yo! You guys Rock
!
Wow guys, this is great! I’ve been “out of touch” so to speak, with photography for about 15 years. Just got back into things a year ago…everyithing’s now digital! I have been thoroughly impressed with the resources available. Joined NAPP, ordered books & DVD’s, just upgraded to CS5 and have been going crazy reading and learning as much as I can about the digital world, while taking as many trips photos as I can afford. Now I’ve discovered your online TV programs. You know my wife is going to kill me because now she will never get me to leave my office and/or computer. This is awesome!
Nice show!
I just took up photography and I brought my Nikon D90 just 2 weeks ago …All the lens.. camera accessories..recommendation really helps me as a beginner in what to look out for next time if I wanted to upgrade my camera. =)
Thanks for doing the show! I just started watching a few weeks ago and I finally got caught up to the current episode!
Another great episode. Thanks guys!
This is really good, I just get my beginner friends to come check out the tips.
Great show!
Great show
Great to see you guys back
Good show – thanks for continuing to make them. I like the ‘just starting’ reviews. It’s always useful to hear things again.
Thanks for the tripod picks.
Thanks for the great tips!
When you talked about tripods, I am reminded of the saying “The poor man always pays twice.” – meaning, buy the good stuff first, and you won’t have to replace it later.
And, thanks for qualifying “rich doctor” by mentioning anesthesiologists and surgeons, not Family Practice docs!
Yours,
Doug
a not-rich Family Doctor
Thanks for another helpful episode.
great show!
Great show. As always, loads of valuable information.
Hi guys! You rock
Another great ball head is Vanguard SBH-250. I compared it with Manfrotto and Induro and for half the price it was of similar great quality. I’ve been using mine for a few months now and never saw it slip even at weird angles. Its available at Amazon for $80 (as of right now).
Great episode
great show guys!!! love your insights!!!!!
thank you for the show
Great show thanks
Love your show, but why don’t you guys realize that black equipment cannot be seen against black shirts / jackets?
Hi,guys!!!! I really like the things,you do!!!!
what makes a ball head so much better than a gear head for your tripod?
Great show as usual. Thanks for the great tips on lenses and all the other “stuff”.
Hi! Are those brands comparable with Manfrotto?
Great show, Thanks !
Once again. Great show
Hi
Great episode as always. Even sent a link to my Uncle for this one.
Cheers
Love the show good info as usual
Great episode, guys! really help alot especiailly for a DSLR beginner like myself. Have you guys covered or did a show on macro photography? I really wanna learn as I am a modeller myself and would like tips on how to take photos of my completed works. Appreciate it!
Hi guys, Loved you show and am learning so much. I have a nice (4 section) lightweight tripod for Ebay @ Home but would like a Monopod for hiking in the mountains where I live.. Manfrotto 680b with a decent tilthead ?? Thanks for all the tips !!
Thanks for this show.
Kelby TV / Training is 100% responsible for me wanting and now owning a DSLR so I was going to request a show like this in the most recent show comments, but after checking the older episodes I find this. Yay!
Am I too late to win the comp? LOL
I almost never drop comments, but i did some searching and wound up here Episode 58 | D-Town TV. And I do have a few questions for you if it’s allright. Is it only me or does it give the impression like a few of these responses appear like they are written by brain dead individuals?
And, if you are posting at additional sites, I would like to keep up with anything new you have to post. Would you make a list of all of your shared pages like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
