Great Show… Can you talk about the new problem fround with the light leak in the Nikon 24-70 lens???
Always a great show. How high an ISO will you go before you start to feel you will need a speedlight? I know it can be camera model dependent.
Hello from Colorado.
MATT, MATT, MATT
Our camera club recently got into a debate on this subject with everyone having an opinion, all different.
Please discuss memory cards… What to look for when purchasing? Is it better to format iin camera or on computer? Better to delete or format? Better to download from camera or card reader? does removing/inserting memory cards play havoc on pins in camera? what signs signal potential failure with current card? other considerations?
Hello

Thanks for a great show guys! Matt, are you really sure Scott hasn’t nicked your camera bag…

Nevermind Matt…found it.
I second the comment about memory cards. I’d be interested in those answers as well.
Thanks guys!
I’d love to see more tips for first time DSLR owners. Tips for moving from a point-and-shoot. What features to look for when buying your first dlsr. How to use some advanced features not found in point-and-shoots, etc. Thanks.

Wow! David Hobby is onDTownTV! There’s no way this show is going but up! Keep it up, guys. Looking forward to the next one.
Yahoo another cool show! as always. David hobby’s Tip on the double tap was awesome. Last weeks tip on the white balance got me thinking… instead of going into the menu, could this have been done with “ColorRight” has anybody tried?
Any chance on tips about sending photos of to get printed? ie. What considerations to take
Thank you all at Kellby for sharing your knowledge! See you guys next week, same time same monitor screen.
Awesome show! I would also like to see a segment on mixing speedlights with strobes.
I could put that Boda bag to good use on the football field as well.
Great show! It would be nice to hear more about the use of Wacom tablets and pens with Lightroom. 3.0 (some tips maybe?).
Hey guys, have you ever thought about discussing harnesses for wedding photographers and their advantages/drawbacks?

Daniel
Hi guys!
Another great show! And of course I will be attending the photowalk on saturday here in Stockholm, Sweden.

Yes the Jpeg will have the style applied to it.

Great Show.
Great show guys. Lots of good tips. They make a difference.
Any experience comparing Harbor Digital Design’s Ultimate Lightbox verses Lumiquest’s Softbox II or III to share with us? Thanks
Hello.
another great episode!
you guys rock!
My favorite is always Cheap Shots.
You Guys Rock! Would like to see a tip on how I win one of your fabulous giveaways.
I find you cheap shots to be very informative.
I would like to suggest a weekly segment on “Camera of the Week”, where you could give a short comment on a new camera or maybe a brief review of an old favorite.
Thanks for the show.
Can you cover cheap speed lights on budget for nikon orhow to use bounce flash. Thanks.
Great show as normal Guys.
Hope you have great weather for your photowalks

You guys rock!
good show
These episodes I like. Lots of information on and on. Keep it up guys!
thanks for the show. was nice to see David Hobby stopping by.
I currently use a soft rifle bag for my tripod, umbrellas & umbrella stands. Found it on the street – cost FREE! Storage in this bag for strobes was iffy at best.
Thanks for the idea on completing my ‘arsenal’ with the hand gun case idea. I’m on my way to Sports Authority now!!!
Great show guys.
Awesome episode!! Have a great week!
Again a super show. I really liked the tips from david hobby from the strobist. Keep on going guys!
You guys rock.

Great show! I would lite to see more Canon camera tips!
Hey guys. I love your shows. I was wondering if you might be able to talk about your personal workflows and plugins you use on a regular basis. Keep up the great work.
[...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Photoshop User, Scott Wyden Kivowitz, Moose Peterson, X-Rite Photo, Brad Moore and others. Brad Moore said: New DTown TV! http://bit.ly/9WDoOT @MoosePeterson & @Strobist share tips, Cheap Shots, Boda Bag giveaway & more! [...]
Please talk about Raw/DNG. I convert my raw files as I load them into Lightroom. Is this smart why/whynot.
Thanks
Guys,
Another great show!
Thanks.
Leon
Great show. Got to love Dave Hobbie’s tip. I do that all the time –just not on purpose. Leave it to DH
Thanks for the show it is the bright spot of my Thursdays (OK sometimes Fridays)
Great show. Might want to mention what settings you have to use to make sure your camera is set up for tethered shooting.
How about some info on taking a video scan and importing the frames as layers. Then would you be able to use auto align and auto blend to create a pan photo from those individual frames?
Thanks
Good info! I agree “Wolff” please talk about RAW/DNG.
I’d like you to do a comparison of in-camera stabilization vs lens stabilization. Effective number of f-stops gained, panning and such.
Great show btw.
great show as usual missed the photo walk this year in hyde park london bus so want that bag and book please please pick me
Great show! Thanks! like your shirt Matt!
great show. any good tips for photographers using ipad to show portfolio?
Looking forward to the Photo Walk. My first time. It is supposed to be 100 degrees on Saturday here in the DC area!
Good stuff guys. How about some tips on traveling overseas with your equipment? I’m going to Germany for 2 weeks and have never flown with my gear before. Also, that Bota Bag would sure come in handy on my 1st trip overseas. Just some food for thought…:)
Great tips!
I was looking for a bag to carry my flashes.
I’m on my way to SA to pick up a gun case.
Thanks Larry!!
great show. see you next week
Hi guys! Like ur show. Please enter me in contest. Thanks.
Another great show, guys! How about some macro tips?
Enjoyed the show. Matt discussed picture styles and how they wont show if shooting in Raw. He said you can applied that when processing by camera calibration. When I open mine in CS5 I don’t see those different settings? Is this something I can import?
Love the tips.
Maybe you have already covered this previously but could you talk a little about the “Program” mode on a camera and it’s advantages/disadvantages.
When would you use the “Program” setting? When would you absolutely NOT want to use this setting?
Thanks
Looking forward to Matt’s Lightroom 3 seminar in SF tomorrow! Great Show, loved David Hobby’s tip!
It’s my first Photo Walk this week. Really looking forward to it. Hmm…tips for the show? How about some tips on concert photography? I know Brad’s into that stuff. How to stay out of people’s way while getting those great shots, preferred locations, lens selections/post-processing those high ISO shots, etc. By the way, that bag looks mighty pretty…
As always – Great show. Looking forward to photowalk this weekend.
Wow! Nice job guys!
Great show, happy walking. What is the fastest and safest way of getting my photos from my camera to my computer? Can we have some more info on shooting “tethered?”
Another great show guys

Loved the show – Keep it up!
Can’t wait for my first WorldWide PhotoWalk this weekend!
Guys, you rock… no, really, you do !
I’d like to see a segment on the proper settings on-camera for using fill-flash in daylight.. What are the limitations regarding sync speed and should you have it set to rear-curtain,… etc.
Thanks.
Great show!!
Thanks
The tip from David Hobby was fantastic. Thanks for a great show.
Great show guys! Could you give us a tip on lighting large groups?
Another great show guys. Love the tip from the Strobist. How about covering some of the helpful little apps that are available to the photographer for smartphones?
Since you showed the Nikon grid related to auto white balance and have discussed picture controls for those who didn’t understand their relation to raw, why not show the Nikon grid that displays the various picture controls and how they can be modified – and saved in certain Nikon models.
Headed to the gun store.
Another great show–hope to see more with David Hobby, I’ll be trying out his tip next time I do a portrait outdoors!
Looking forward to participating in the Photo Walk this weekend.
Like David’s tip. I’d like to see more from him.
Thanks for all you do.
Steve

Really liked David Hobby’s tip. More please.

Cool Stuff!
Another great show. looking forward to the Photo Walk.
Great show this week (as always).
Idea for a future spot : Larry Becker VS David Hobby in a dual of “who can make it cheaper?”.
Um, I think I need a few YEARS under my belt before I challenge Thee Strobist to any kind of duel. But that’s certainly something for me to aspire to.
Love your shows!
We are doing a photowalk in Yuma, at 6am to beat the heat.. looking forward to it! Love D-town each week. I have to admit I discovered the double shot tip with flash awhile back.. great tip.
Can’t attend in Vegas, even tho my mom lives there and I could stay for free.. you should give away more tickets for us non-pro’s who can’t afford it
Petr Klepper is incredible, thanks for the inspiration!
AE Lock and DOF Preview Buttons!
I am shooting more and more landscape and I have heard these are very handy to know yet I know NOTHING about them!
PLEASE HELP
Good show.
What are the differences between different types of camera straps?
Hey Andy,
Check out the R-Strap (www.blackrapid.com). It is absolutely the greatest camera strap on the market. I picked up a couple myself about 18 months ago and can’t believe I ever lived without one after the first use !!!
Highly rated and recommended…enjoy.
Cheers,
M.
I have to agree on that. Best strap ever made.
Great show. Are the photos behind you on the wall yours or ones you’ve collected?
I really love your show. You should do tips on begginer cameras. I really need that bag because i have a bag that only carrys 1 lens and i am on a budjet. You rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
have you had an episode to help those using laptops to edit photos in field? the problem I have is finding one with a display that works well with images > 96 dpi (mainly raw images).
72dpi looks good on my HP DV7

Great episode! I was wondering when D. Hobby was going to drop by.
You guys REALLY do Rock!!!!

My batteries are all charged, 16GB flash card reformatted…I’m ready for the photo walk.
Another great show guys, keep it up.
I liked seeing David Hobby on the show. I check his blog daily. In fact my daily routine is McNally, Kelby, Strobist, lightroomkillertips in that order.
Hi guys!
Great show as always, watching you from Montreal Canada.
Enjoyed, thanks guys.
Great show. Nice to see David Hobby.
Great show guys, I would love to hear more about nikon tips if that is possible
Thanks for another great show, and I sure could use the bag!!!
great ep. could you please cover ir (infrared) photography ?
I know you have done some stuff on remote flash triggering (pocket wizard, skyport, etc). I still am a bit confused. Maybe a quick overview of the options.
Excellent show! Please bring on more tips from David Hobby.
More Larry Becker; any Moose hints on speeding up the video to still to video delay?
Have a great photo walk weekend.
Is there anyway to shoot ultraviolet “like” photos in camera(D300)
Great show look forward to it each week.
I don’t think I fully understand the David Hobby TIP.. Does he mean he just shoots multiple exposures rapidly, and hopefully the flash hasn’t recycled fully, and he get’s a misfire? This is how I took it?…or is there an actual technique to not trip the flash?
Great show as usual!!
Great topics – cant wait for the photowalk!!
great show
Another great show guys
Loved your tip on LR and Camera Raw getting to the camera preset!! Didn’t know that one and it’s going to be a big help sometimes I’m sure! But I have a follow up question: When i browse through the raw files in LR 3 after import the display seems to initially show the image with the preset applied for a second or two and then it show the more neutral raw file display. It seems to only do this the first time I click through the images. If I go back and then click forward it doesn’t do it. What is LR showing for that second or two and is there a way to tell LR to just display apply that “look” without switching to the undeveloped raw look??
Excellent show. The tip by David Hobby was one I am going to use tonight.
Keep up the good work.
Love the show once again, great idea for the speedlight case, shame you can’t get those cases in the UK.
Hey guys – I’m gonna test that theory of “we read every post”. I didn’t catch the name of that photo bag you both rave about – and I would love to have that in my arsenal – hint..hint
Mean time, another awesome show. Can you do an episode on using wacom products (i.e. a tablet, or otherwise) and how it integrates with LR?
Always look forward to your posts – you RAAWWKK !!!
Hi Guys, please wear more black it makes you look evil and authoritative.
Keep up the good work!
I really enjoy your show
I liked David Hobby’s tip. A great use for PS!
Love the show. I would love to see a suggestion for an introductory off camera flash kit. You guys know whats up.
Thanks, See you in Vegas.
Tim
Another great show! I’ve been watching DTown TV from the very beginning.
Hey guys! Cant wait for the CS5 show to come to LA.
Always have great tips. Thanks
thanks for the info guys. I would like to see some tips on shooting birds in flight because no matter what I do I very rarely get a sharp picture. Thanks.
Cool show as always. Great tip from the strobist. Why are the most simple ideas the most elegant?
Thanks again for sharing.
NOTHER GREAT SHOW. HOW ABOUT DISCUSSING ISSUE OF TRIGGER VOLTAGE ON OLD WORKING FLASHES.
Great show. Thanks.
Petr
Great Show!
You guys need to get David Hobby to do some videos on Kelbytraining! ! Strobist-for-Life OCF!!
hi, great show!
Love to see some metering tips.
good show, you should talk about how to process raw in lightroom / photoshop
Hi guys, love my Boda, can always use a second one.
Another great show. Have fun at the Worldwide Photo Walk.
Great show guys… thanks for the tips.
Suggestion for a future show. Geotagging… I’ve been playing with the idea of getting a Nikon GP-1, but I downloaded a software called RoboGeo and use my Garmin hand held GPS for geotagging, but it always takes a LONG time, since when I do go out, I’m taking hundreds of photos.
Keep up the good work! Thanks again.
Hi guys, another great show!
good stuff guys
Hello Scott and Mat.
Greetings from Poland.
.
I’m watching every show, and I watched all previous shows (from the first episode) although I have a Canon
If I win this bag, can you send it to Poland
?
Great show.
great work thx a lot!
I’ll have to think more about it, but there was something about the content and pacing of this particular episode that I really liked. Perhaps it was the placing and timing of the different segments… not sure, but keep these coming.
I’d also like to hear more tips related to the Wacom tablets. Is it worth making the transition from mouse to tablet? Any tips for making the transition go smoothly? What are the main advantages of a tablet?
Hello, guys,
Thank you for another wonderful show!
Great show as always. Thanks.
Nice to see David Hobby on the show.
Awesome show, great tips. Use these tips everyday…..
great show
looking forward to the Photowalk this weekend
Great Show this week! Would love that bag and book.
Seriously Scott and Matt, Thank you for D-Town TV. I look forward to it every week.
Kind Regards,
Dan Carter
Good to have the next episode up already after the previous one. You seem to be having fun making these, judging by all the snickering in the segments. Maybe you could do a sort of reminder for RAW-photographers, what you need to do since the camera doesn’t (sharpening etc.)
Oh, and I need that bag, I was just thinking how to solve the lens bag problem when shooting rally next week.
Great show!
Great show… look forward to this every week !!
Guys I really need the bag!
Another great episode. Looking forward to the Walk this Saturday.
Another award winning show. Looks like a cool bag. Wouldn’t mind one of those! Nice tip from Larry too.
Another great show as always. Please, more
lighting rips. Later guys, ffm
Scott – Why do you wear a hot coat in Fla, in July? It can’t be comfortable…relax buddy.
All the best..
Great show guys…
OMG. I never realized about the camera calibration. Now that tell me about it, I really see the difference. I’m going to have to reprocess photos which didn’t turn out well.
Thanks guys!
That’s my bag, baaabbyy!
Great show as always guys.
David’s tip was really interesting.. Maybe for these type of tips a quick example would really illustrate the point?
Wouldn’t mind a bag…
Guy’s Thanks for having David Hobby on the show. I read his site everyday. Between Hobby and Joe McNally I feel more comfortable with speedlights and have used many of their tips.
Great show. It was great seeing the Strobist in person. How about something on getting prints to match the colors displayed on the monitor. Something more than just calibration of the monitor and using profiles?
Special Sauce……. LOL
Love the show. Do you have any tips for photographing people of dark shin tones?
Thanks for all the tips.
Love the Hobby trick. And love his shirt too. And Matt’s…
Great show guys! Here’s an idea for a future show: working with multiple flashes and light meter!
Scott – Why are you wearing a coat in July, in Florida? Relax – be comfortable! All the best.
Hey Scott,
It’s summer, it’s Florida and you are wearing a leather jacket. What gives with that?
Another great show guys!
You guys are beauties
Question: can you go over opening TIFFs in Camera Raw. I swear I’ve opened a TIFF in CR but today I was trying to open a TIFF in CR via Bridge, which I had saved as a TIFF in Photoshop, and no luck. Am I taking crazy pills or is there no way to edit TIFFs in CR?
Thanks!
You guys are great.
What I would love to see some more 1min tips for lightroom
Something quick and easy
If you could incorporate NIK software that would be great
Thank you
The man, the myth, the legend, The Storbist! Great show fellas
LOVE the bag!!! Great tip from David, would never of thought if it!! thanks
Love the show. Would love ot see some examples of macro photography on the show. I’ve been trying ot get a good flower shot, do I need a macro specific lens, or if I’m using a tripod and have good lighting can I get the same affect?
great show!!!
man would i like to have one of those cameras and upgrade my d50 and d100………….
Great show guys. You always bring a lot of useful tips. Pretty cool to have David as a guest.
Great show…. always informative. Strobist on Kelbytraining…. hmmmm! Scott, just received your Lightroom 3 book….awesome. Don’t think about it just get it!
How about some tips on focusing on subjects in the dark. Especially without a modeling light and when the illuminator light thingy on the camera isn’t strong enough.
Great show again, thanks!
Great show! I’d definitely like to see more lighting tips like you had today.
Would like to see more strobist studio shots!
Great show!
Great show guys.
There a lot of us in the real world that use lower end cameras ( d40, d60 ect )
Can you maybe work in some tips for us little guys.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks, Ken
Hey guys great show. I would love to see more info on macro photography. Hope the contest for the camera bag is still going on.
Great series, thanks Matt for your show on how to shoot sun burst. Just got back from Bryce Canyon and was able to put my new knowledge to work. Keep up the great work. Thanks again.
I was always curious about those Boda Bags.
Boda bag?!?! Awesome bag from an awesome show!
Cheaper shot: I found that plastic gun case at Wal-mart for about $12
I’d love the Boda bag too…!
Cool show guys. How about tips on shooting star trails – do you shoot one photo or multiple photos and combine in PS?
Hey guys gr8 show!!! Pick me pls”.
I discovered D-Town a couple months ago, and started watching the videos from the beginning. I’m about half way through, but I jumped to this episode because my wife and I will be participating in one of the Photo Walks this weekend, here in Georgia.
I also joined NAPP for the first time a month or two ago (finally!), and have been enjoying the combined resources of the D-Town Web site, the NAPP site, and all the other amazing resources you’ve made available. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to many more exciting and informative episodes of D-Town in the weeks to come!
Another great show with great tips! I am looking forward to the Worldwide Photo Walk on Saturday. This will be my second World Wide Photo Walk. I am driving around 150 or so miles from Troy, Al up to Birmingham for the photo walk at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Looking forward to more tips next week. I have been checking out the Boda bags on their website, would love to have the one from you guys.
Loved Larry’s tip this week. I may need to get one of those cases.
More Strobist!!
That was such a good tip, I never considered that but it makes so much since! Also, loved the handgun case conversion, slick!
You guys do a great job of presenting solid, useful information in an entertaining and timely manner. I appreciate that, thanks.
As always, great show! Love the framed pictures of your set!
Hi guy’s. Another informative show. Looking forward to the Newcastle, Australia Photowalk tomorrow. One of our shots got into the top 10 last year!
Great show! Does that mean we can expect some classes from the strobist on kelby training soon.
Lookin forward to the walk
Hey guys, great show!
One thing I would love to see you guys do is a tutorial on how to shoot photos through glass/windows, particularly night-shots.
Keep up the great work!
liked the episode.
tip of the day if your highly powered sb900 gets hot and shuts down you can get it to reset faster by putting it in a plastic bag and placing it in a small cooler that has cool packs (like the ones you place on your ankle) like the ones you get at a pharmacy in it .
Great tip from the strobist! Keep the guest photographers coming.
Always enjoy the tips!
See you all at the photowalk on Saturday
Great show!! Nice to see David Hobby on the show. Would be great if we had a Kelby Training class from the Stobist himself
Great show…I’m also looking forward to the walk!
Great show
would love to see some tips on different fliters for landscape photography
Hı from Turkey
Great show guys. I too, use the gun case for my speedlights. Actually have two cases, one for the speedlights and one holds two Quatum T4ds and accessories. Keep up the great work.
Done it last year, cant wait to do it tomorrow (australia)!!!
Boda boda boda bag! Yummmm
Great tips as usual. Thanks.
– Woods
Awesome as usual and I am really excited about the Photo Walk!
Guys, you didn’t mention who won last week’s give a- ways! It’s always nice to hear a name, even if its not mine (boo-hoo, sob, sob). Cheers always!
Enjoying the show. Been finding a lot of the tips very useful.
Great stuff, watch it every week!
Thanks for the tip about letting mirror bounce die out before firing the shutter in order to get a picture with maximum sharpness. This also raises a “related ?” question I would like to see addressed on dtowntv. I did some shooting last weekend on a Long Island Sound beach. When I looked at the photos I noticed that the images were good, but were not what I would call tack sharp. I was shooting on a sunny day with f stops of f/5.6 – 8.0 so I would have a good depth of field in the exposures, and shutter speeds of 1/350 and faster. Subjects were people sitting on the sand, and boats floating in the water 100 to 1,000 ft off shore. (No noticeable waves or wind.) While the image sharpness is decent, I was expecting it to be even sharper. How much of a “noticeable” difference in sharpness is there between good quality lenses, and the really high end (expensive) lenses ?
Thanks.
F.Y.I.
Equipment used: Canon 7D, Canon 28mm f/1.8, and a Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lenses.
Keep rockin’ that leather jacket, Scott. Good stuff!
My idea for a future show: There are MANY different tripod and tripod models out there. How does one choose which one to get?? Maybe some good tips on that would make for a good segment. I would surely follow along and take notes!
Thanks.
There is no strobist.com link in “Links Mentioned” part…
As usual, great epizode
Thanks!
I also would enjoy a segment discussing preferred CF/SD card brands. I know SanDisk and Lexar seem to be the big two. On a pro photographers’ website I just visited, they endorsed Hoodman CF as reliable and fastest.
Thanks for these helpful free shows. Keep up the good work.
great show guys
Really, really liked David Hobby’s tip. Never would have thought of doing that. Thanks!!!
Love the show! It just keeps getting better!
love the show I would love to see the tips be more towards photography and cameras and not brand specific! I would also love tips on how to see things more creatively just using a camera and a lens. thanks again for all the great tips
Another great show! I love Strobist’s tip, need to try that one out soon.
Thanks for the great work.
Hi guys, emailing from Townsville Queensland Australia, this is my first comment not that i am doing it for the prize as i wouldn’t expect you to post anything downunder but i have to say now after watching the 48th show how much i look forward to each show and how much I’ve learnt from watching your shows the information you give i cannot get here, also got to say you’ve cost me quite a few dollars from purchasing products you promote, every time something new arrives in the mail i have to explain to the wife why i need it so I’ve put the blame on you blokes, don’t be surprised if you get a call from her.
Thank you for doing this weekly show and looking forward to many more.
Alan
I wife tried to call them and have a go, but i just gave her the wrong number!! hahaha
I’ve been getting into tilt-shift photography and I was wondering if you could go over the pros & cons of using the Canon / Nikon tilt-shift lenses vs. medium format lenses (i.e. Pentacon or Kiev lenses) with an adapter for DSLR cameras.
David rocks
btw I want this Boda bag
Hi Guys!
I liked David Hobbys tip, simple but very clever.
Keep up the good work!
/J
Another great show, guys!
Hi guys, Love the show! I use a fujifilm S3 Pro at the moment and ALWAYS shoot in jpeg, I think with this camera raw simply isnt needed. Have you found with any other dslr this to be the case. Saves a massive amount of memory for one thing!
Paul (England)
How were there not more ’shooting’ puns in cheap shots?!
Also I never realised how short David Hobby was, shocker :p
Still loving the show, one thing that I’d like to see, you guys must have great connections with Nikon, could you provide any sneak peaks what’s to come (by that I mean, when is the D90 replacement arriving? :p )
Keep up the good work
Ben
This is the first episode, which I have seen of the DTownTV, videos. I am hooked, now to watch the 47 previous episodes. But that will be after to Photo Walk.
Keep up the good work, guys!
Another great show guys !!!
Another fantastic show, and bonus of 2 in one week, brilliant. Fantastic tips from both of you as well as the great guests and featured photographers. Awesome information shared, always something to learn whatever level we are. You are generous and truly rock.
Wonderful tips and great show as always
what do you think of tamron
Matt’s piece on using Picture Control when shooting RAW was very helpful. I always disregarded Picture Control settings because I just used RAW in Lightroom and PS.
Also, David Hobby’s tip on doubling up the frame grab when using outdoor fill-flash was something I’ll have to add to my techniques library.
Great strobe tip.
Another Great Show.
always wondered why custom styles didn’t show in raw so i shot raw / jpg fine.
this will save me more room on my card
thanks
Great job, guyz…. Outstanding tip from David Hobby!
Idea for the show….. How about a few segments on night photography, specifically cityscapes where the city is adjacent to a body of water.
Regards
Shame guys,no room for Tel Aviv photo show, but again -great apisode excellent series.
Itzik from Israel
Where can one buy matt T-Shirts?
are you or matt & dave doing any trips to the uk
for shows ie scotland
Great tip from David Hobby.
cool show you guys!
Hey Guys,
I love this weekly video. Moose was right when he said info was in the manual, but, when I see you guys demonstrate on here, I just get it then. Thanks!
Linda
(Oh yeah, winning that camera bag sure would be sweet!)
Hi Guys, looking forward to Photo Walk tomorrow………great show.
Hej Guys love you show, i see it every week.
Love, Lerry Becker, but man i live in Europe and we dont have Gunbags around
Gentlemen: I have a sports shot on Saturday and I was trying to locate the episode Scott did on how to shoot sports. I had some difficulty trying to find it. When I click on episodes, I get a list of the same but little or no description of what the show is about. Perhaps in the future, might you consider inserting a few bullets telling us what is contained therein? Thanks .
Great show!
I bought a aluminum case at Lowes designed as a tool case that I use to hold my Flashes, light modifiers ect. Looks better than the plastic gun case and it is about the same price.
More David Hobby! That was a fantastic tip!
You guys rock.
Some info on steps to take while changing lenses to reduce sensor dust would be great.
What software do you recommend to edit videos from my D300s?
Great job, guys! If you covered in a previous Dtown what could keep your shutter from releasing when you press it to take a shot, forgive my question. Sometimes my camera refuses to take a shot and I have to change to another mode or sometimes turn off my D90 and reseat the lens. What could be causing this?
Another great show. I would like to have you show something on landscape photography and what you should actually focus on.
Davis’s tip is great, but similar tip was with HDR images and masking the train…
It will be great to see again beginners tips, thanks.
PS Bag looks great.
Great show! Great tip from Hobby too.
Love the gun case tip. A lot cheaper than any of the similar camera cases I have ever seen.
Thanks for another great episode!
I will definitely incorporate David ’s tip.
Ah hah, I finally have a use for my old pistol cases.
Hi,
Terrific as usual.
Have seen every issue. Need that bag & book
Tip: I can’t remember if you already did this one?
Exposure compensation (without flash) on D300:
Say you want to take 3 shots, over, under & normal. Turn on the compensation in the normal way and then (here’s the tip) turn on continuous shooting with the max continuous release (custom setting d5) set to 3.
Hi Guys
Another great show, if you have not already done it something on off camera flash would be good.
David
Great tips guys. I really like the cheap shots tips – especially being on a budget.
Idea for tip: settings for shooting with wireless flash triggers that don’t relay ttl info.
Thanx
Great show guys! Can you do some more episodes with David Ziser. I am a wedding photographer for the last 5 years and really enjoy learning what someone like David Ziser does on his weddings.
Regards,
Great tips, thanks!
Need that bag…bigtime…great show guys!
Great show. Loved the tip from David Hobby.
Can I ask about the picture controls? If you have shot a RAW file without the picture control, can you add it in when in Lightroom 3/ Adobe RAW Converter?
Regarding concert photography, do u have any recommendation on tools to protect gear from the rain? Great show!
Hey Guys … Great Show.
Matt …. I ordered that T-shirt! Friends are all Jealous LOL!
Good show once again. Nice tip from David Hobby. I’d like to see more of him.
David Hobby! Great tips guys. One minor thing that bugs me about full screen mode when watching all Kelby TV shows is the “ads” button. I don’t mind that it’s there, but when in full screen mode it covers up the volume tab. So if I want to adjust the volume I have to exit full screen mode, adjust volume, and then enter full screen mode. Give it a shot, you’ll see what I mean.
Can’t wait to see the next one!
Killer strobist tip — wow! Upcoming show ideas — how about some long exposure/night photography tips? Thanks!
your show is excellent and we learn always new things.
berst regards from France
Hi, yet another great episode….^^
sry wrong website input
Little confused, the custom setting (vivid etc.) will transfer in a RAW photo is I use Capture NX2 and a Nikon camera? I didn’t think they did.
Thanks guys for a great show. Love them all and learn something new from them every week.
Great show again guys – Just keep Rocking!!!
Love the show! One thing about the picture control and picture styles, I guess any additional tweakings done in camera wont show up.
your show is off the hook
Great Show! Thanks!!!
Great tips. David’s double click tip very cool.
You guys are great! Thank you for this show.
Great show! Lot’s of great tips! Keep up the great work.
Great tips again! Thanks!
Great tips again! Thanks! I always look forward to Fridays.
Great show.
How about some time-laps tips. Lens choice, software etc.
Hi,
I am gonna be joining the photo walk tomorrow in Breda, Holland. Are you gonna be at one of the walks ? if yes, which one ?
Johan Stoopendaal
Great show! See you at The World Wide Photo Walk on Saturday the 24.
Another great episode. Matt: is there some way to set up the camera calibration setting as a preset? I would like to be able to convert all of my RAW photos on import to the Nikon vivid calibration setting. How can I do this?
I love this weeks cheap shot – I travel in Mexico on very rough roads- (read incredibly rough and likely should not have taken that last turn) There is nothing like getting to your destination and finding your bag at the bottom of a pile of camping gear! This one is a great idea for not only lights but lens as well.
Great Show
A3 user here but thanks for the tip about when/where to apply effects to get the “in camera” Picture Controls on RAW images.
The gun case makes sense to carry your shooting equipment in. Sorry, couldn’t resist. Great job as always!
You guys rock \m/
Loved the show & would love the bag!
Hi Scott & Matt,
Thanks for another great show and for the tip on locking the mirror up. I’m definitely trying that out for my outside/landscape shots. I greatly appreciate all that you do for us for free.
Thanks for the show!! I’d like to better understand how to properly use AF area mode. Which is best in different scenarios.
You may have already done it, not sure.
Maybe you guys can give a tip on the in the future.
another great show.
Great show! Thanks.
You posted Dave’s show to itunes instead of this episode of dtown TV. Great show anyway, not Dave’s, yours. I didn’t watch Dave’s so I don’t know if it was great or not it probably is.
Great show. How about more on off camera flash for Canon Cameras.
Thanks for all of the shows and tips!
Look forward to every new show. Always learn something new or something I forgot. Thanks
great show!
Wow…finally…I have been trying to watch all your shows right from the start to current – and I’ve finally caught up!
Amazing job guys! I had found out about the show because I had originally bought Scott Kelby’s books on Photography vol 1-3.
If there’s anyone that hasn’t read it yet – get on it!
Now I have a dilemma. I’ve been watching 2 – 3 episodes a day. Not sure if I’m going to be able to wait a week going forward.
Thanks again for the great show!
Great show…just got your LR3 book today and look forward to a great read.
Hi Guys. Another great show. It doesn’t seem like that live view has been covered much or functioning in live view on the DSLRs. Mind covering some of the functions while using it, or how to get to live view on some of the different models.
Keep it up!
Another good show. How about some basics of Flash photography – using two remote flashes, for example.
Another great show. How about tips on specific settings for certain projects – ie shooting a wedding and why those settings are chosen.
I’m using a camera that offers commander mode to shoot wireless. Can you do a show on this.
Hey I liked the tip that David Hobby gave but can you guys make a example so I can see exactly how to do that on Photoshop
Thanks
Great tip from the Strobist! Thanks.
Wow! Wouldn’t it be cool sending those gifts to Denmark? I bet it would.
Thanks for a great show.
I didn’t know that Lightroom had those pre-sets built in under the camera calibration menu – thanks Matt! Do you guys ever use the DOF button and if so, in what situations? Thanks!!
Thanks for including Canon tips along with the Nikon tips.
Great show!
I liked the Strobist tip. I have to shoot tomorrow, and I’m gonna test it.
thanks for giving us http://petrklapper.com/ , great stuff !
Love the show.
great show
Thanks Guys! I look forward to your show every week because I know I will gain something new every time. I do have a suggestion though..I would love to see more know problems with the cameras (for me..I’m a Nikon D90 user). For example I experience the Dead Battery Syndrome. Not sure if manufactures will appreciate it thought since you are pointing out their flaws..hahaha
I like your show!
Thanks!
Thanks for yet another great interesting and fun show!!
Hi guys, great show, love it
another great show
That was a great flash tip from David !
Hi!
The things I’ll do for free stuff!
Yo.
Great show, loved seeing David Hobby make and appearance!
Great show. Have a successful photowalk.
Actually, If I win, could I get Matt’s Bag ?
Thanks.
Another fine show. First I heard of David Hobby, he’s great.
Hi, like your show
Greetings from Norway!
PS: You guys rock!
Fantastic show once again guys. I dont know if you went over this in another episode but could you do a segment on concert photography.
Any tips on when to use a Lens Shade and when not to use a Lens Shade when shooting. Thanks
Hey, love the show would love to have that camera bag and book too!
Whoa– freaking awesome that the great David Hobby made an appearance!
Great show great tips
Another great show! greetings from Norway! =)
Hey matt and Scott.
To hold you to your word that you read every comment, I have a tip you should bring up in the next show.
When looking att the histogram and highlight-clipping, you can select red, green and blue as well as white, which is really good when shooting something red, as red almost allways blow out somewhere.
Just a tip for ya!
Oh right, now I’m in the contest. =)
thnx for the great show, been watching since ep. 1 !
How about some info on adjustments necessary for high altitude (11,000 ft &up) mountain photography. Thin air great vistas and haze etc.
good work!
Another great show!
Tomorrow it will be my first Photowalk. I’ll be there with my wife and we are both very excited! It will be such great occasion to get to know fellow photographers and the town we moved in recently. Keep up the great show, guys, much respect!
L.
Just signed up for the photo walk in Stockholm, Sweden. (Or as Scott once said: “just write ‘Hi, I’m from Sweden!’”)
If you guys really read the comments here, I’d like to share an idea and hear if anyone tried this or used it successfully. Here it goes: I shoot RAW and I like B&W (or “grayscale”, right?). Since I shoot RAW I get all the color information home with me. One day I had a shot which was slightly overexposed in the red channel, so naturally my grayscale conversion ended up a bit weighted towards the green channel to get the details back. This works since the world outside really isn’t completely gray (believe it or not), and hence, the channels end up exposed slightly differently. Of course. That’s when it hit me: I can use “Auto-Blend Layers” in Photoshop to create an “eDR”-image (short for “slightly Extended Dynamic Range”. My own name for it). I just create layers out of the color channels and and Auto-Blend them together. With a color filter (the physical kind, non-Photoshop), the effect is even greater. Kind of auto bracketing in one shot.
Anyone tried this technique? Used it? Succeeded? (I’m still experimenting.)
Thanks for another great show. Can’t wait for the Photowalk tomorrow!
Great show as always. Looking forward to my first photo walk tomorrow.
Great double tap tip from David Hobby!
Great show.
great show!
Hi, you should do a series of how to photography styles, like rankin, jill greenberg, dave hill. How to sept up the lights, or post work, etc. thanks
I look forward to the show every week!!
I learned a lot from you lightroom 3 nyc!!
Another great show. I’m into travel and street photography and would love to see a segment about either on your show.
Thanks!
Another really great show guys. Keep up the very fine work……..please.
Thanks again for a great show .
Would love to see more flash and macro segments
Great show as always. Loved the use of the gun case for speedlights!!!
I enjoyed it all!
You guys Rawk!
P.S. I’m gonna wear Matt’s t-shirt tomorrow on the photowalk!
great show
Great show! Keep it up!
Another great show and great to see David Hobby as a guest.
Great Show Guys!
Forever grateful, the show and your guests ROCK!!!!!
I am attending my first photowalk here in Toronto Canada. See you in Las Vegas
Another great Show, but …. you can ship the bag overseas?
Thanks Guys!
Matt, Where can I get that awesome “photo” shirt you’re wearing on the show? The one where it has all the different symbols on it!
I gotta have it!!!
Each week I keep learning new stuff. Keep up the great work….
Great Show. Love the off camera lighting tips. . . why not make it a regular part of the show…
Forvere grateful, look forward to each episode.
I am participating in my first photo walk, here in Toronto Canada, should be a great time.
P.S. see you in Las Vegas
I love D-Town! I have watched every episode and cannot believe how much you guys have taught me. Keep up the good work!
Love the show! =)
Great show, forever grateful guys thanks again.
Great show!
Another great show. Thanks guys!
Hey, how about bring on Dan Margulis! Would love some LAB tips from him!!!!
As always, I enjoyed the show (episode 48). Lately I have been really tempted to buy a wide lens for my D300, like the 12-24 f/4, but I am really a total amateur. How about some hints on ways to use such a lens without simply taking a wide image of tiny little features and lots of empty sky?
nice show, also it was nice to talk to you Matt in san francisco this friday on Lightroom 3 Live.
keep up the good work.
suggestion: how about a (detailed) segment on how to make good use of a Tilt-Shift lens; oh, you’re great!
Great show.
JJ
Love your show guys! Keep up the good work.
Love the show watch every episode. Great to be able to keep in touch and learn lots of interesting tips even though I live in country Queensland in Australia. Hope to come next year to photoshop world in vegas.
Love the recommendations and tips.
Can not think of anything specific I would like to see but just a little frustrated that products you show are not available here (in australia) and trying to buy them and bring them over can be a bit of a nightmare.
Loved the piece you did on travelling with photo gear. Had never really given it much of a thought but certainly will from now on
Love the show keep it up
From sunny Bundaberg (where the rum comes from)
Great show as usual guys, thank you for your time.
Awesome tips! Thanks so much.
nice tips again guys.
Great show.
Hi Scott and Matt,
Thanks for yet another GREAT show. I was so very chuffed with the tip of shooting RAW only to find out Sharpening and set picture controls on the Nikon are not shown when not using NX software. Thanks very much.
Great show Guys.
How about night shooting?
Thanks,
John
Love the show!!!
Nice job as always.
great show
Great show, especially David Hobby’s tip!
Love the show. Please continue to show us less financially abundant shooters how to grow.
You guys ROCK – great tips as usual – keep them coming.
You guys rock always.
Looking forward to the Photowalk this afternoon.
Great tip from the Strobist guy about “Double-Tapping”.
great show!
You guys don’t suck! Can I please have that bag?
Very Cool tips this week guys.
I just wish the show was longer.
To the double tap I have used a neutral filter in front of the flash to block or soften the light above and or under my subject.
I cant thank you guys enough for all the tips you have been giving me (and for the rest of the viewers out there) !!! In short You guys rock!
I have a question as well, I do alot of sports photography and action photgraphy (fire dept. related) and I use two cameras a Canon 7D and 50D (hopefully one day a 5D Mark II, we can all dream.) When I go to download them, I have two different file folders for the cameras and have to match the timing up because one second I am using one camera, then the other. How do I get it so the files match or sync the cameras togther to make my life easier?
Thanks guys,
PS, Why do all of you guys use Nikon?
Great tip from David Hobby. Would like to see more tips from David in the future.
Hi from Gemany
I like your show very much, a weekly must-see.
Can you give some tipps about shhoting danving peaple (party-dancing, not on a well lighted stage)?
Thx
Lutz
Thanks again for all the great tips.
Great tips again!
However I wonder if using a hand gun case wouldn’t get me in trouble at customs…
looking forward for the photo walk!
please turn down the volume for the advertising!
best greetings
markus
Once more: Great show! I really liked David Hobby’s tip.
David Hobby rules!
You should hire him for Kelby Training:-D
Hi Guys
In the last month – I’ve seen all 48 episodes of your weekly show – and I’ve learned a lot !
Thanks….
Keep up the good work
Regards Kjeld (Denmark – Europe)
Another winner of a show. Thanks for all the tips and I really enjoyed the lighting tip using two photos.
I’d like to see a tip when you’re shooting in a relatively small room with an on camera flash, how to avoid the ugly shadow behind your subject.
Thanks
Upde
Dave, if your subject is not moving you can set your flash to rear-sync. This will cause the shutter to open first, then the flash will fire just before the shutter closes…but if your subject moves it will be blurry while the background is sharp.
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the show enjoyed as always. I am traveling again all the way to New Castle, DE I am going to try an join up with the folks up here for there walk. See you next week.
DennyCayman
Hi Guys,
thanks for a great show! Here’s a little tip for beginners I discovered recently;) As you mentioned in one of the earlier episodes taking more than one photo each time helps …you can choose the sharper one. and of course you can choose it directly in camera by zooming in. and here it goes
: you can actually browse through the photos in camera(nikon d90 anyway) with the main command dial instead of the arrows and the zoom remains the same!…that way you can see the difference between the two magnified photos instantly
Anyway…greetings from Czech Republic guys!
Nick
Love your new website (Iguess I haven’t been here in awhile). I would love to see a show on the NIKON CAMERA GRID….I don’t understand it at all. In the Canon cameras they have the 3rds grid . In this digital age, wouldn’t it be simple for Nikon or Canon to offer several different grids? But PLEASE, explain the grid in the Nikon Camera….where do you place a subject if you want it lined up on the 3rds points or even the horizon line??? Thank you.
There is always something to think about and something new to try in all your shows. Great stuff. Keep up the good work.
Great trip from David Hobby……simple and effective/
Larry Becker, you´re the greatest. Just bought me a toolbox that came with 4 layers of foam wich 2 of them came with a precut pattern of 1/2 inch squares that made it easy to cut out for what ever gear needed. So I´ve got my 3 flashes and radio controllers in there + other things in the back of the foam like you did. Great tip!!! By the way. Scott and Mike you rock too. How about if somebody outside the States could win your prizes (me
).
Guys you have an incredible show here. Strobist is my favorite website and it was great to see David Hobby on the show. I would love to see some strobist kind of tips in the future shows.
You guys rock! Another great show.
I am register, willing, but unable to make it to today’s photowalk in Chicago. It’s been raining hard for the last 12 hours creating flash flooding which has blocked most expressways into the city… Very disappointed!
Another great show.
Scott: did you time this event to coincide with the
Kevin MacDonald/Ridley Scott’s ‘Life in a Day’ worldwide filming? In any case, perfect timing for shooting both stills and video with our DSLRs
this weekend!
kkeith
Great show. Just returned from my first attempt at Photowalk
Nice day all around
Jesper
I watch your show every week and find the tips invaluable. One thing I’m always nervous about is updating the firmware in my Nikon. If you haven’t done something on this before, can you do a short segment on how to do firmware updates? If I somehow missed the tip, let me know which show to go re-watch.
Keep up the great work!
Another great show!
Another great show! Other than the Adjustment brush in Develop module, is there any other practical use for the Wacom tablet in Lightroom?
Thanks for the tips. Had to cancel my spot at the photowalk due to heat advisory in our area……can you have it next year in the fall?
Thanks.
Thanks again for another great show. Please don’t ever stop doing D-Town TV.I am learning so much. Can’t wait till this afternoon.it’s my first photo walk Phoenix Az. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
Jerry
Great show guys! See you at the photowalk today.
Great tip from Hobbs
Thanks again guys for yet another awesome D-Town!
Wonderful show as always! I am getting to be a real fan of Larry Becker and “Cheap Shots”, such a brilliant segment! Not to take anything from you guys, of course!
Keep it up, Scott and Matt!
Did my own single man walk today in the dunes at The Hague. Sure could use the bag.
Great tip of shooting twice an image to then be able to mask out the offending light.
World Wide Photowalk yeah!!!!!
Hi guys, I just want you to know that I really enjoy your shows.I’m from Romania, Bucharest.
I got a question… Do you have any tips on how to use an iPad for tethered shooting with Nikon Cameras while in the field?
Love you shows guys! keep ‘em coming!!!
Great show, guys!! Thanks!
Great show.
This is a minor question/low-level topic, but if you could talk about flash exposure compensation, it might be helpful. I’ve had situations where I’ve done (-) compensation for catch light, but have never really found times where (+) compensation has been a tool (due to my incompetence probably).
Looking forward to the Photo Walk this afternoon!
Great show!
Larry, Larry, Larry!!!!
Thanks.
Great Show – The Speedlite tips from Larry over the past two shows have been great! I also learned about the “Ask Dave” podcast because it was added to the iTunes feed.
great episode – gimme the Nik!
would love to hear your guys thoughts on the new mirror-less DLRs
great episode – gimme the Nik!
would love to hear your guys thoughts on the new mirror-less DSLRs
Good show again!
Looking forward to the walk today. I’ve been learning photography via the internet and, mostly, trial and error on my own. It’s great to have an event like this to bring local photographers together in person.
Enjoy the shows but have a different question. Matt has talked about the Eye-Fi wifi SD memory card, but does anyone make a similar product in the compact flash memory card format?
I love the opening beat/music on this one. Funky!
@Gary, I’ve checked around for the same thing (SD Wifi card), have had no luck. Also, using the SD Wifi in a converter to make it an SD card will still NOT work according to what has been said on the net.
Great show again. Loved the tip from strobist.com.
Hi guys!
Great show.
I´m watching you from Sweden.
Loved the show, especially the Picture Control settings in Lightroom. Would also love to learn more about color management. You guys are great!
Thanks for putting this show out every week.
Hey guys,
I`m a big fan of your show and your fantastic work from germany.
You`re helping me getting better pictures and optimizing my knowledge.
That means a lot for me.
You`re doing a great job.
Best regards from düsseldorf
Achim Schäfer
Larry’s the man
Great tips as usual.
Hey guys. thnx for another nice show.
Tip to bring up:
when viewing the highlight clipping, you can select red, green and blue besides the white blown out.
this is great when you have f.ex. a lot of red that easily gets blown out.
Btw, now I am in the contest!
tjingeling
It’s fun to watch you guys follow your passion! Great show, I really learn a lot!
Idea for a future segment: I have done some aerial photography a couple times from a helicopter and I have usually ended up with some really good frames. It might be interesting to hear some of your thoughts for dealing with the rough ride and still get tack sharp photos. I actually shot with a non IS lense on a fast shutter speed and that seemed to counter the rough ride and still give me a great shot! Thanks again and I’ll keep watching!!
Great tips – thanks!
goood luck guys in da photowalk
Great Show
So how do you make your own camera profile and save it as a Camera Calibration profile, to access when you develop a RAW file?
You guys rock . . . . it! (lol)
Would like to hear/see some tips on monitor/printer calibration, to get my photos to print as they look on screen.
Thanks
Hey Guys
Love the show!
Could you address a lightroom tip:
When using the adjustment brush and zoomed in, how to scroll across the image?
Thanks and keep up the great work!
in prev epp a trick i use with the exposure delay is to set the timer if you dont have a remote so you dont have to push the shutter button. also can you guys help me to understand the differance between cs5 and light room im not sure wich one i need or fits my needs best? just trying to do basic photography thanks
Excellent Episode. I particularly liked how this episode had both Cheap Shots and a section with Dave Hobby.
Maybe, just maybe, it would be a good idea to have Larry and Dave to do a section together. Can you imagine? Killer light shaping tools and techniques at a fraction of a price.
Thanks guys.
another great show, you guys are making me a better photographer
thank you
Hey Guys, Absolutely superb tips.
Just one thing I need to know is, if we didn’t apply the ‘vivid’ or other settings in the camera and shot in normal raw, would we still be able to tweek the Lightroom modes that you just showed and get the same results?
Many thanks,
M Soni.
Off to the world wide photowalk now! Keep up the great stuff.
Awesome show guys!
Hey guys,
I really liked the tip with the handgun-case – a cool way to carry your speedlights, so they´re protected – and that for a low price too.
Great show guys.Keep up the good work.
Loved the tip from the strobist!
Great show Guys
Waiting for anoher…
Hey great tips with the off camera flash with the 2 shots and editing. I new at off camera flash, so all the tips I can get are great.
thanks.
Andrew
Great show, but we need more Lightroom tips!
Awesome show guys. Keep up the good work!
Its me again and again a great show. Keep it up.
I would love to see some tips on shooting sunrise or sunset and getting the exposure right.
great show. great tips. thanks
Great Videos, thanks for all the tips!
Tip on using Honl Gels with on Camera Flash. Put a small self adhesive soft velcro on the under side of the flash and a piece on the top, add Gel works great.
Always watch the show. Great tips. Can you have a tutorial on how to meter a shot away from the subject you are shooting.
Hey Guys Great Show! I just wanted to tell Scott that I used your tip (of a few weeks ago) about putting the camera in High High shutter speed. I was at a concert and trying to get some shots, but they were not tack sharp. Then I remember Scott’s tip. I set my shutter to High High and Wham Great shots!! Thanks Scott! Oh, Matt, by reading your Blog every day. I knew about your tip in this show!
Dennis
great show!!!(as usual!!)
just came to mind….
not sure about Canon, but if you shoot Nikon and use their software(Capture NX) for PP…..all of the settings you use in the camera body will be automatically applied to the file, even if you shoot RAW.
Thanks again! Great show!
Did the 3rd photowalk..yes! With this I have done all the 3 photowalks till now and looking forward to the future SK photowalks!.
Should have mentioned in this show the lenses that one can carry and the gears to take for the photowalk.
more strobist!!!! :p
I’d like to see something about how to find a tripod and ball head setup that won’t break the bank but still does a good job. sub 250 range.
Scott & Matt,
Great show; Maybe in a future episode you could cover Universal White balance settings to accurately display histograms on the lcd display on your DSLR. Thanks, Lee.
Keep it up.
I loved it so much …..
Nice tips))) thanks for them
Great show, how about some nik tips
There is a nugget in every episode! (and of course, I’m not referring to chicken!)
Another great show!!
Great Show Thanks!
Loved the tip from David Hobby, hopefully he’ll be featured in Kelby Training’s classes.
I love the show. Please include more on-location tips while you are out on assignment. I appreciate when you show actual photos taken on location and how you were able to get better photos.
Once again, another great show. Thanks!
Another great show guys, thanks! Also great appearance by DH, I never thought of his tip either.
Great episode!
I really enjoyed the photowalk in Dublin
All the best guys!
Great show guys!!!
I really enjoyed the photowalk yesterday!!!
Greetings from Dublin
great show..have been an ardent follower from episode 1 and have not missed a single one…should celebrate the 50th…let’s have a party!
Hey Guys, great show. It would be cool if your site displayed a countdown clock till the next episode is available online.
hi
As always great show. I loved the LR3 class in SSF last Friday.
Another great show, that walk was great too! I live in Maine but was visiting my daughter in NY and was able to participate in Schanectady.
When talking about lenses, you often say things like “I love this lens”. I have never seen a discussion of the advantages of different lens over others and I would like to.
Hi Guys, love your show and I pick up a lot of knowledge from you guys, Thanks.
Just wondering if you can share some tip on when to apply the different type of color filters for the different shoot commonly used in professional photography?
Hey Guys Great Show!!! Im starting to shoot HDR.Scott recommend 5 frames but my Nikon D90 is set up for 3 frames. Can u go over the settings again for 5 frames. If my Nikon can be set up for it.Thanks guys!
Great stuff. I am going through and watching all the past episodes!
great episode!
Great show as always!
good tutorial from Moose
Another great show. David’s stobist tip so simple yet amazing. Please send me the bag.
Hey. nice bag. hope you nows where Denmark is.
Great Show.
Picture Control was great. Really appreciate the information
Fab show guys
Hi guys,
Great show! I need an advice. The other day, I woke up early for a photo session with my pregnant wife at the beach. The house A/C was really cold, and when I got my camera out to the beach, my lense was very foggy (inside and outside). Outside I could wipe it, but not inside. It took about 10 or 15 minutes before the fog went away. Can you recommend what to do in that case or what to do to avoid such problem. I was ready to shoot an unfortunately my glass was not!! Thanks!
Superb show guys
Another great show. Please share more camera menu tips and short cuts.
Good show love the lighting tip. Should have another one this time how to get perfect exposere when the flash unit is mounted in the camera.
Been looking for anew bag for awhile now. This looks good.
Another great show I enjoyed it very much!
Great show this week. Missed the photowalk though. It was really great to have David Hobby, can you bring him back for a few more tips?
Mahalo!
Hey guys,
Great show! I really enjoyed photowalk in Dublin.
All the best!
Thanks for a great show. Could you please talk about whether or not it is a good idea to buy full frame lenses if you have a dx camera? I’m unsure whether I will ever want to pay enough for a FX camera, but figured it would be worth the little extra for lenses just in case, especially if FX camera’s come down in price in the future. Or is there an actual difference in quality between the two?
Nice, I love your show but I NEED TO GET THE BAG or SOMETHING from you guys – I am not as lucky as some other guys to get some FREE STUF! So how about it? Is there something for me?
OK, NICE show and KEEP IT COMMING!
Tony
HEY guys from LINCOLN, NE why don’t we get together and create a CAMERA CLUB! Send me email if you like to get together once a week!
Tony
Had a great time on the Photo Walk yesterday. Thanks for everything. Jack
Could you please talk about your camera straps that you guys use. I remember you talking about them and how much yo love them.
Please more in depth flash information. Love the show keep up the great work
thank you!
You guys rock! How original is that?!
Question: Can you talk about “stopping down”?
Love the show.
Great show guys..
Another great show. Really loved the flash tip.
Larry, what kind of wristwatch ya got goin on there?
Major chronometer!!
You guys rock!
Suggestion: Shooting local bands using the old 70’s style lighting-blue, green, red, orange- low wattage which means low light conditions. Even with a f 1.8 lens, the ISO used is 800. With a D300s, with noise reduction on, the shots are loaded with noise. Could it be that the amps and wireless mics and instruments frequency are picked up by the camera?
Tim, get a D3 however you can (or D3s).
Great show!! What is the difference between linear & circular polarizer filters.
Holy crap that was a long way down the page. Klapper is the MAN when it comes to concert photography!!!
Hi guys, thanks again for such great tips. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the great show, especially the double tap flash technique; hope I’m not too late for the camera bag but I just got back from a great vacation-wish you were there to help me with my photography.
More David Hobby. More David Hobby.
Great show!
Great show again guys, keen to try David Hobby’s tip!
Thanks for arranging the Photo Walk. I was able to go on two this year and met some great people.
David Hobby’s “double tap” tip was great. So simple you wonder why you didn’t think of it yourself.
Really good show, liked the strobe tip – so simple!
Thanks guys for another great episode. I would like to see Mac calibration techniques and hardware you use.
Thanks,
Arnold
This show is so fantastic.
I would kill to get my hands on your Lightroom 3 book, Scott!
Cool shirt you have there Matt, I just ordered mine
Cheers guys, keep doing what you’re doing!
Great show guys. I just bought my first flash for my dslr, a used vivtar 285hv that Im having a lot of fun playing with, and I’ve been reading David’s Strobist and Lighting 101 since. Loved the idea about shooting two frames.
Picture control.. just what I needed.. Tx guys..
ANd u guys rocked!
You guys must never sleep! Thanks for all the help, here is a tip; shooting with the sun behind an object often produces a diffraction halo inside the edges of the object. The clarity control can dramatically reduce this halo if it’s not too pronounced.
Cheers, Colin
i love you guys! learn alot from this show. any tips for teleconverters? is it ideal to get one rather than the REALLY EXPENSIVE zoom lense?
Thanks for another informative show guys.
We are a bit ahead of you in time over here in Europe. I’m waiting all thursday for the show to pop up on my computer every week. This is just great.
Keep it up.
Yours
Lars Johansen

David Hobby rocks
Thanks guys for this great episode. I like all the gears you are showing and would like to know if there some why to get good shipping rats to the UAE, from one of your sponsors.
Thanks,
Abdullah
UAE
Love the photo tips, keep them coming.
Hi
Interesting every week. Thanks
great show, i liked the episodes where Matt described how to achieve certain photoshots, ei, sunbursts. It would be nice to have more tips like that, i know in your books(Scott) that you have a recipe section and this is great, perhaps more of this could be incorpated into your show?
Great show people, David’s tip was incredible (I just ran into that very problem yesterday and had to angle my speedlite upwards to avoid lighting the ground), so thank you for that!
And by the way, I need a new bag
Cheers,
Martin
I love those fast-paced real world tips. Thanks!
You guys ROCK!
How about a few tip on using speedlight gels.. I have a bunch and no idea what to do with them!
Great show guys.
I was woundering if you could show how the ipad can be used in photography.
like if it can be used as a Lcd.
add also other app you may enjoy using.
something like scott kelby’s photo recipes.
Thank you
Nice episode. Glad to see David Hobby at D-Town.
Cool show guys!
Hey there!
Are you planning maybe on calling Cliff Mautner back for some more great tips from him?
Greetings from Croatia =)
Hey Great show!
Robert
I attended the PhotoWalk this weekend in Portland, OR and had a great time. One the walk got out of the warehouse district I found plent to photograph. I concentrated on the photographers until then.
I look forward to D-town each week, referring back to old episode for tips constantly. I’d like to see tips on remote triggers, both wired & wireless. My wireless won’t allow autobracket shooting and my wired trigger can’t be used with a Really Right Stuff LPlate for my D90 tripod mounted in portrait orientation.
Thanks for a great show. I hope will continue it for a long time. – Bob
Would you say something about compatibility between NIkon bodies and Capture NX all the versions? There is always some confusion whether a particular version of Capture will be compatible with a Nikon body. LIke D90 with Capture 1.3 is it compatible.?
Great, as usual!
Still waiting for some tips on Macro Photography.
Please, please, please
Thanks
Great tip from David, and I love the cheapshot tip as well. I think it may have been David on strobist.com that wrote recently that ammo cases make for great AA battery storage as well. Kind of fits with the guns n ammo motif you got goin. Keep up the great work.
Hey guys, love your show!
Would be nice to see more tips & trix about take photos with macro (micro).
//Niklas (Sweden)
Great show!! Thanks…
I have a problem when shooting during the day with alot of sun my lcd on the camera is barely visible. Is there any trick that can be done thanks.
This problem has been covered in previous episodes if I remember well. You could either increase your camera LCD brightness (but not with precise results because of the variations in sunlight) or use something like a Hoodman Loupe. Here’s a youtube video explaining what it does:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4kUDOLIsds
Hope it helps, cheers!
Great show as always!
I’m a beginner dslr shooter and must say i learned alot from the both of you, Thanks!
Cheers,
Nelis
Great show as usual, always informative look forward to each one and tips from quest speakers, can we have some more from David Hobby, that was a great tip ehh Scott.
hi
Hi, thanks for getting everyone going on Saturday. definitely a cat-herdin’ experience!
Larry, that was definitely a USA-only cheap shot. Joe average is not an armaments consumer here in Britain, and it’s definitely not a mass-market for accessories for death dealing.
Great show!
Hey, great show guys!
Here’s an idea for a follow-up tip on the camera calibration profiles in Lightroom: if you always use the same camera profile/style inside your camera, you could set Lightroom to automatically use that calibration profile (in the Develop Module) by setting it as the default for that specific camera. It can be done by going in the menu to “Develop” and then selecting “Set Default Settings…” (after previously setting your preferred profile in the develop module).
I always use “Neutral” on my Nikon D300, and have also set it as the default in Lightroom for importing images from that camera (though I often change it to ACR 4.4 or something else depending on the type of shot and/or skin tones).
HI guys,
I liked the flow of this episode. The transition from each segment was smoother the better produced. Keep it up!
Great show, as usual. Is there any way to remotely trigger the camera wirelessly without a pc connector, as in the Nikon D80?
How about a show that includes some new trens in photography.(eg:HDR was yesterday, blank is hot today.)
Great show, keep the cheap shots coming.
You guys rock. And I’d love a Boda bag!
awesome videos the vids helrd my craft so much THANKS! guys
help my craft so much sorry for the error
Hi Scott and Matt, these shows should come with a warning. They are addictive!! Looking forward to the next. BTW Scott THE BOOK has just turned up at Amazon U.K. …got mine last Friday after several e-mails saying it was delayed.Worth the wait.
Ron.
You just can’t have everything. Where would you put it?
Guys… the tip on raw and why it DOESN’T use in camera settings was (is) very useful – thanks! I shoot a lot of HS sports and a number of them are in dark’ish gyms where, because I have to use off camera flashes to light the joint up – I use raw because I’m not using high frame rate like I might at an outdoor event (shooting .jpg). (( can’t use a high frame rate principally due to flash recycle times…. )) Anyway – appreciate that tip!
Now for my contribution – google “GGS Screen Protectors” and then buy ‘em. Trash those cheap, plastic ones that come with your camera that don’t last for more than a week or two and get these ones instead – they rock! Seriously…
Not overything made is wonderful–so critical evaluations of the gear–pros and cons–would be good info from the pros.
Hi Scott, I attended Joe McNally’s lighting seminar in London last week and it was great. It got me thinking about Photoshop World – I went to Las Vegas last year and it was awesome. How about having a Photoshop World in London or Birmingham in the UK. It would be very popular and photoshop users from all over Europe could attend without having to make the long trip to the states. I am a Photoshop trainer myself and would love to get involved with such a project.
Keep up the good work.
Hi Guys, I’m surprised that you didn’t mention the option to set your camera to shoot both jpg and RAW.
Thanks for another great show!
Would like more info into camera settings for shooting sports outdoors and indoors.
Really enjoy the show!
Great show – thanks!
Still no DTown TV Episode 48 available for download and playing on my iPhone in iTunes…
Go Boda, I agree with Matt, best thing since sliced bread.
Keep them coming! I want to be watching this show 5 years from now – but hopefully to an hour long format on a network TV station.
Thanks for the tips and the cheap shots this time! Nice idea for carrying multiple speed lights!
Amazing show guys. Definitely my fave podcast. Informative, smart and pretty damn funny. Keep it up people!
Great show (as always

A handgun case for flashguns… Great idea! Thanks for great shows and the all-star cast.
Thanks for the heads up on shooting raw & fixing it in Lightroom. As usual u guys rock.
You guys rock!
Another fine show!
Hey Guys,
I would love for you guys to do a segment on how you can still take good photos with a entry level camera.
Its not how much money you spend on gear its how much you know about photography and what to do in diff situation’s.
P.S. Good show. Keep up the good work
Funny, I use my camera bag to carry my handguns.
Great episode.
Enjoyed Matt’s show about the settings for Picture control and he explained it with great clarity. I went to my lightroom to try it and all I got was 4.3 and 3.3 I have the first Light Room.
Need more tips I think on the Nikon’s focusing settings on D200. I know you did a show on this way back but would like to see a video of you guys using the focusing setting via different subjects. Enjoy your show very much. Barb
Hello guys, thanks for that great episode!
Im going to go to south Africa next year for four weeks and I’ve got a question for you: Is there a camera bag (or other kind of storage) you could recommend for a DSLR body and 3 lenses (tele, wide & 50 prime), that doesn’t get in the way with my backpack I’m using for all my other stuff (clothes, etc.)?
Thanks so much,
Yannick
Hi Scott and Matt
When do u come to visit Sweden ? It would be grat to see u here and get some tip from u
Best regaards
christian
Great show!!! I would love to hear more about Nikon Capture NX 2 usage / tips.
that was a good tip by mr strobist..
I think some night photography tips. Rule of 600, how to shoot star trails, etc would be great. Great shows. I watch weekly, I have to get my DTown fix!
I would like a few tips on home printing i.e. What printers are recommended, Some techniques if I don’t have a printer calibrater , how to get the best Black and whites. What to look for and how to asses a good print. You could even get John Paul Caponigro to drop by and give some tips. Cause i gotta tell you I have a epson and I suck at printing. I need help !
For the price this show can’t be beat. I have been following this show from the start when you were just for Nikon user. It was fun back then trying to figure out how your Nikon tips would work for my Canon camera. Always great content on the show. I like when Scott was doing a few of his studio lighting tips. So maybe some more times on one lighting or how to setup a not to expensive home studio..
great tip on double tap thanks
Thanks again for the new information on every episode. I still review them from #1 once in awhile for reinforcement then get out and practice, practice, practice.
Another unbelievable show! Thanks!
Love the show. Would love more specific beginner tips (sunsets, sports, etc.)
Great show guys. Love the lighting tip from the strobist. Had a good time at the photowalk despite the 100 degree temps.
Great show guys! Thanks for the tips.
awaiting next week
Every show. Awesome. Love that mustache Moose.
Keep up the great work guys!!
Great Show, Waiting for my latest LR3
Computer Monitor color calibration. What to use and how to set it up.
Thanks again!
thank you very much
nice show …. as usual

Great tip from David Hobby. Also like the storage idea from Larry, sadly gun cases here in the UK are not so common. I’m still looking for a resonably priced case for mine.
NICE SHOW. I SEE THEM ALL. PLEASE SHOW US WITCH LENSE WE SHOUT BYE. I GOT A 50D.
How about a tip on how to enlarge pupils in photoshop?
I was watching the strobist segment and enjoyed learning about the double tap to not fire the flash. Grreat job.
Hi Matt,
why shall I start to use Lightroom instead of or added to Photoshop ?
Hi Guys
Great show as always.
Great show.
Gday Guys, from the guy down under.
You have a urber show.
cheers Carl Australia
You Guys Rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the show.
As a summary show you could combine all the tips to build one photo scene. For example studio with a model, repeat what people need to do (all the tips) to take a great picture.
hello (man patīk jūsu raidījumi) Latvia

Hi, I´m watching your show from the begining and it helped me a lot with using my camera! I would like some cool tips on concert photography, which I am trying to do. I am also glad you mentioned Petr Klapper, who is the best concert photographer from here- Czech Republic.
Hi Guys, had a great social worldwide photo walk.
hi, cool camera bag.
like Matt’s t-shirt!
I wanna win!
Hey Guys ! great show as always
I would love if you would do some tips for lanscape photograpy and using a wide angle lens.
Thx
Since we have been having triple digit heat this summer, can you do a segment on how to pack your gear for excessive heat on a photo shoot.
Hey Guys great show as always, wanted to ask you about the beach photo with flash, What is your best suggestion for getting the subject matter well lit, but not darkening the sunset behind them. Thanks hope to hear back from you!
Great show guys!
I would love to see more tips on using a softbox, like the ezybox, on location.

Another great show – Any additional tips regarding anything concerning outdoor photography would be appreciated!
Hi
I have watched every D-town episodes. I really enjoy the tips, especially the lens episodes. After those episodes I knew what I am missing. The thing that I mis is a bag for lenses.
It will be great if I got that bag
From one of your fans
Found your site recently and what a fantastic pair you both are. Have spent the last few days viewing all the episodes and learning so much from each and from Scott’s Digital Photography 1 and 2 and about to but No. 3 as they are so good.
Waiting to see more from you – keep up the good work, which has persuaded me to buy only Nikon …. when my wife is not looking!
Regards to you both and thank you so much from here in the UK.
Malcolm
You were right about Petr’s site….. it is incredible!!
Keep up the good work.
Thanks Great Show
Love your show, keep ‘em coming!
Just got a Mac Book Pro. I’ve been using lightroom 2, on my window’s computer, and i have it in my mac book now. Should I stick with lightroom , or go with Aperture for mac.
PS… Great show
Another great show.
Hi fellows!
Great show as usual. I love the various segments on tips, especially the ones related to Nikon cameras. ex. the recent one re Exposure Delay On/Off. I recall others, ex. the focus screen button, BUT, often I can’t recall the Episode for that tip. Is there a list of tips and their associated Episode Numbers available? In the past I have tried opening and closing various episodes looking for a specific tip that I recalled seeing, but this takes plenty of time. A Tip Episode Sheet would be a bonus – What a request, as if you folks had nothing else to do!!
Great show and would like to know what kind of camera bag you were referring to? I need a good walk around bag.
hi guys, keep it going forever!!
thanks!
DHirata
Great show.
hello from texas,,,great show/tips,,,I am learning photography and using a nikon d80,,,could use that camera bag and book on your last episode,,,the cheap tips help in purchasing some items,,,
keep up the great work,,,
Great Show!
Great show how about more on location lighting with speed lights
What can I say other good to have you guy doing what you do .
Great tips! Thanks!
Nothing much to say this week.
Great show. Love Larry’s cheap shots for speedlights.
Great tips to help taking picture at dusk at st. pete beach.
Great tips. You guys are awesome. Keep up the great work.
Great Show as always!!!
In LR what is the difference between exporting a file to JPEG or Printing to File? What are advantages/disadvantages of each? Printing to File seems to create a larger file, is this the better option?
Hi great show, enjoyed the strobist segment. would like to see more.
Love the show!
Photowalk was FAB. Having that bag would have been even better – Winning it would give me a bag for next years walk which I’m already looking forward to!
Great show. Great tips. The only minor thing the show is missing is a Canada shirt
. Bring back Dave!!
Had a good time on the walk. I might even try to lead one next year. Give me the bag – not my wife! HAHA!
good stuff
just wanted to let you know that we had fun Saturday doing a photo walk in Las Vegas.
Here lately it has been taking awhile for the episode to show up on iTunes. Is there a certain day it shows up? It used to be on Thursdays.
Love your show! I’m just getting into off-camera flash. Would love to know more about getting started and what “guide numbers” are.
Excellent show this week, guys. Love the tip from David Hobby. I’ll surely be trying that double exposure and layering technique on my next photo shoot.
Keep up the good work.
hi guys
another awesome show! Thanks
Great show!
I really enjoyed the David Hobby segment.
Great show.
Another great show and a great tip from David Hobby!! Thanks.
watched your podcast on your website… why has itunes not upload your current episode 48?
I love your show. Keep it up!
David Hobby once again proved that he’s the man ;]
Anyway, you could run my tip suggestion from last week about quick white balance fine tuning using the liveview mode and command dials. Or you can try to answer the question I get asked a lot – when is shooting JPEG okay and when is using RAW a must (You might also mention the circumstances when JPEG is better even in professional use).
Love how you feature a new photographer at the end of the show each week.
Great show. I loved David Hobby’s tip. Plan to use it and maybe combine it with ambient light bracketing to keep some detail in the overall sand in the second shot and a darker sky in the third shot.
great show as usual!
how bout a section on speedlights and highspeed sync.
thanks!
Thanks Matt and Scott for another entertaining episode!
However, I have to protest! About Matt’s tip/tutorial on camera profiles.
It’s NOT that I tell the camera, when I’m shooting raw (like Scott put it) “turn off all that stuff”
NO! I’m telling the camera in detail how I’d like the picture to look like. And the camera does so.
BUT ACR/Lightroom DOES NOT UNDERSTAND a single bit of what I was telling to the camera.
That’s a HUGE difference and one of the very few things that drives me sometimes nuts about adobe raw converters and lets me from time to time even use the manufacturer’s software.
One’s trying to get -as scott so often says- everything right in the camera, and then ACR doesn’t get a shit of the settings.
So please, please, please don’t pretent that this is a user setting thing. It’s a problem due to lack of standards.
And instead of whiping over it like that you should use your influence as opinion makers to produce some pressure on finally getting a proper raw file standard (being it .dng’s or whatever).
Sorry, that had to be said…
I’m with you here. You’re not discarding any info by switching to RAW, Picture Control is just a few bytes in EXIF which CaptureNX has no problem reading. Something like that should be integrated within the DNG standard.
Great show people!
You guys always rock…no matter what you guys are doing. The bunch of you. As always thanks.
José
Awesome show. Loved the strobist tip. Why didn’t I think of that!
I like the show. Period. End of sentence.
hi guys. great show as usual
I hope one day I won that books
Great show as always!
I would love to hear your tips on printing, i.e. how to sharpen the photos, how to make sure all range of tonalities will be properly conveyed to the print etc.
I have NOT missed a single show, and this one was HOTT as usual.
Topic Suggestion: Flagging light out doors in a non-studio setting. Proper bounce reflector selection when shooting out doors, Silver, White, or Gold. Combined with white Balance selection. It’s something I’ve struggled with a bit. How to dial in the proper color balance.
If you haven’t missed an episode so far, you should have found the answers to your questions in episodes 32 (Matt’s outdoors guide to reflectors) and 47 (white balance fine tuning). You might also find my WP tip from last week’s comments helpful:
1. Turn on LIveView
2. Switch WB to Kelvins (seven clicks of the rear dial to the right while holding the WB button)
3. While holding the WB button, turn the front dial until what you see on the screen matches what you see with your eye.
If your camera doesn’t have LV, you might want to fire a series of test shots instead. If your camera doesn’t allow tuning by Kelvins, you have to chose the symbol that matches your surroundings most closely, then fine tune the way pictured in the previous episode.
About picking the _right_ reflector, I learned quite a bit from the Nikon’s DVD guide to CLS featuring Bob Krist and Joe McNally, it’s really worth watching.
Thanks for another great episode.
Love the show.
I miss the strictly Nikon tips in greater depth.
Thanks!
I don’t seems to be able to find it nor download this episode on iTune. Has it been uploaded to iTune yet?
Is anyone else not seeing this episode in iTunes?
Great show. David Hobby was a nice treat. I’ve taken his classes before and he’s an amazing teacher. Hope to see more of him on D-Town TV.
Thanks guys.. Great show as always…
great show…
Great show i always learn something new. Keep it guys.
Really appreciate the David Hobby tips. You guys rock!
The ‘cheap tricks’ segment this week is exactly what I was looking for! Awesome!
Well done again. Always a pleasure.
Enter me in the contest for Matt’s favourite camera bag.
Also, Saturday WWPW was great. I had the pleasure of being part of Dave Henry’s Walk at the Railroad Museum in Old Sac.
Thank you for sponsoring this super event.
Great show! I’d like to see some tips on natural light photography.
Love the great photo tips.
Great tip from David Hobby!
Would love to see tips for working with models (bringing out personality, achieving specific expressions, etc.) Not sure if that fits the scope of this show or not. Thanks guys.
Great show as usuall guys.
Do me a favour though, get a sticky pad and stop the corner unit on your table wobbling like there’s no tomorrow whenever you touch the table. Makes me chuckle every week.
Rob
That was a great tip from David Hobby – so obvious – yet takes someone to point it out to you
I’ll be buying the LR3 book when it’s out here in Europe as the LR2 book was brilliant – really helped me get hte most out of LR2.
great stuff as always
I Love D-Town TV
Hi Guys, another great show. Loved David Hobby’s flash tip, it’s so simple but so brilliant.
Ace show guys as always!
Ian
Great show. David Hobby’s tip is brilliant. Thanks.
Also tip from David and the Photowalk was a great event for the 3 year!
Just watched DTown for the first time. Wow, another great source of info. You guys put yourselves out there so much, thanks! Would like to know more about working with sharpening and what settings to use in LR beyond the presets. What determines what settings to use? Also are you guys using the LR flickr plugin or Friedl’s plugin? LR3 flickr seems to have bugs in it.
Thanks for another awsome episode! You guys are truly ROCK stars!
Kudos to Larry. Great idea.
Great lighting tip from David. Thanks
Great episode guys! I will get Layers soon. Can I get it signed Matt?
Great show.
I really enjoyed David Hobby’s tip. Like you Scott, I thought “Why didn’t I think of that?” I just did an outside self portrait where I had the exact same issue and was thinking to myself since I did not have any modifiers with me. Hope you have David on again with more tips.
nice tip from the strobist
Another great show…how about some tips on local sporting events, cycling, baseball at night, potato sack races
Great seeing David Hobby on dtown.
I loved David’s suggestion, and tried it last night. At 1/4 power, my flash fired twice, then the third shot was without flash. That’s no problem, but this is: in AP mode, the no-flash shot took too long to hand hold.
The example of the model at the beach could easily have been done on a tripod, but Scott said something about doing it while walking downtown.
I seem to be missing something here. Can you add some “fill” for me? [apologies for that bad pun, tho Scott probably liked it.]
Thanks,
Steve
good job – how about more davd hobby?
Great tip about the Camera Profiles. I was just asking about this earlier this week.
Great tip by David Hobby!
Hello everyone,
Great show again, like every week.
Is it an option for one show with david hobby and Larry togetther in a cheap shot episode?
Greetings
Perry
In an upcoming episode can you do a tutorial on the best method to shoot Moose Peterson’s stache curls?
thanks guys, keep up the great work.
Great episode as usual. David Hobby tip was an awesome fix for a common problem!
Please do a more in depth segment on mulitiple exposures. I know my D700 and D300 has the option but I can only get ghosting looking exposures. Is it possible to do full opaque multiple exposures in camera, or is it really more of a layered Photoshop trick?
Thanks…
David Hobby’s tip was simple but awesome
You guys rock.
Would like to see some coverage on metering modes and exposure comp, and when it’s best to use the various options.
Thanks again.
Hi Guys
Idea for show…..
I’m an older photographer that used monorail camera’s when I was in my 20’s, now being 40+ I have re discovered Perspective Control (Nikon PC-E 24mm and 85mm)
How about a section in the show how to use them?
We are never too OLD to learn !!!
Mark
This show is fantastic. I really like how you have created all of the different segments including cheap shots, and the weekly guest tips! Thanks.
Don’t see my comment This is what I stated…
***TIP*** When shooting with the style applied it can be a little annoying when also shooting in RAW. But I have found it to be a benefit because When I shoot in Monochromatic style and RAW I have the benefit of seeing the tones on the LCD and getting the exposure just right (I have been studying the Zone system) but I also get to record the full color version in RAW for later edits….
The drop down that you showed the replicate the styles in Lightroom did not include a grey scale or monochromatic style ( I checked with Lightroom 3 and it doesn’t have it in mine either) is this because of all the new BW presets?
Thanks for all you do and the Photowalk was great again.
Great show, thanks guys.
Sure hope I’m not too late to leave a comment. This was a really great show! Would love to know why you all prefer Lightroom to Bridge? And why Dave Cross prefers Bridge to Lightroom?
BTW- David Hobby Rocks!
you guys rock
Good one!
Great tip by David Hobby!
Thanks for another great show! Oh, and please let me know when I’ve won the give-away.

How about a lightroom 3 tip on setting up an external drive to hold your catalog and how to get the Time Machine backup to write to both the external and the TM backup on import so you get the safety of backup on two external devices? There is you tip for a show!
Great tip from “the Strobist” thanks for another great show!!
Great Show guys!!! Thanks
Great show, guys.
I have an idea for a show segment: batteries and chargers for off-camera strobes.
I often shoot with 2 Canon 580EX II strobes, 2 Canon CP-E4 battery packs and 3 Pocketwizard Plus II triggers. That means I’m packing 12 AA batteries for each strobe and 2 AA batteries for each Pocketwizard for a total of 30 AA batteries. That is a lot of batteries to charge and handle for a shoot. Maybe you could recommend some specific batteries and chargers. Maybe I could replace the CP-E4 battery packs with the Quantum Turbo SC. And I might be able to eliminate one Pocketwizard with an optical trigger for one of the strobes. What do you think?
Another great show….you guys rock!…..
I really loved Larry’s tip with the handgun case. I shoot a lot of handgun competitions and have that same case and I have more than enough room for 6 fully loaded 17 round Ruger SR9 magazines, my 2 Nikon SB-600 speedlights, and of course my Ruger SR9 with fiber optic front sights. I love the show and make sure I watch it every week, but am a little disappointed with the fact that this episode was almost a week late.
the mountain dew bottle create a good contrast in your set (color, props wise) which made it more interesting.thanks for the show
Watchin’ the “Hobby” brought up an idea for photographers to try. How about one day out of the week…and you should be shooting daily ya know..take a day and shoot with settings you never ever use. Plus, shoot with those settings with different technics. If you never shoot in “shutter priority”..try it with old ladies playing jump rope…and Go!! Great show guys!!
Great show guys…You Rock!!
I can’t download the DTown episodes through the Zune software because it says a login is required. I don’t see any way to register with this site. Anyone know how to resolve this problem?
good tip on the flash at night and using CS to overlay them and mask out the strong shadows and light … never really thought of that…
Great show as always. Could you guys do a show about the best bank for your buck DSLR. Features VS. Price kind of thing.
Keep up the good work.
great tip from David. i have always deleted my second shots because of under exposure. now i have reason to keep them.
You Guys Walk!
Photo Walk that is.
Great tips. Thanks to all.
Show idea … iphone apps for photography
UGH! Why have I never thought of David Hobby’s tip either! Thanks guys!
Another great episode Guys! Thanks !
Like the gun case for speedlights. Have you guys tried the standbagger for speedlights and stands?
Who won the giveaways this week? They are typically up by the time the new episode comes out.
for extraction of the picture styled jpegs I use instant jpeg from raw utility which Scott publicized in a previous blog and it extracts the “cooked” jpeg from raw in it’s own folder so I have the raw and the jpeg from raw plus camera style ready for use in LR or PS
Thank you guys for putting together such interesting episodes week after week.
In addition to wanting the camera bag you are giving away, I actually have a question.
A couple of episodes ago, Matt mentioned that, in the post production process in Lightroom, he prefers tweaking the “brightness” rather than “exposure” slider, because he likes the effect it has on the blue sky. I was wondering if it would be possible for him to elaborate on this. Also, if there are other similar looking (Lightroom) functionalities like “brightness vs. exposure”, I was wondering what they may be.
Thank you, as always, for such a great show!
Another great show. How about some tips on using reflectors outdoors on portraits or large groups.
Another AWESOME episode.
Cool T-Shirt Matt
Good tip from Moose, I had run into this myself.
Great show and great tip from Strobist
Another great show. Really liked tip on off light tecnique.
Thanks, Guys!
Can you guys please give some information on using the “Kenko Extension Tubes” and “Reversing Rings” for macro photography.
Another awesome episode! Thank you!!!
MATT–
I gotta get one of those shirts. Where can we find them?
Just discovered your site after the purchase of my D5000. This is a great site. I’m off to catch up on some of your excellent videos.
Show 48 was another great one. I really liked Larry’s case idea for flashes.
Great job with show 49. The tip from David Ziser with the light was great. Scott is correct about Larry’s cheap tip was great.
Great info. Keep up the good work.
Be extra careful using handgun cases for photography gear. Thieves are more likely to swipe a gun case. Just like with any of your gear, make sure you don’t leave it unattended in plain sight (like in your car.)
Just rediscovered your show and have been catching up on all the new episodes. I have learned a lot of great little tips.
Would you please consider including more tips for those of us with the lower level cameras like the D90? A lot of those D3s or D300 tips sound great but they don’t apply to the lower level cameras.
Hey guys!!! hello from Mexico City. your episodes are amazing. This site rocks!!!
keep up with this great job!!
Great show
Hey Guys!
I use a custom menu bank on my D700 and find it really useful to keep my commonly used settings. I reconfigured / programmed a few buttons as well. Which brings me too…
Is there any way to program my EV (+/- ) button to any other back of camera button?
Show Tip; Scott, would you please stop wearing black T-shirts. …Kidding, just kidding.
You Guys Rock!
Doug
Great shows. It would be nice to see something about primes vs zooms and when each is best to use.
Another great show! Thank you.
thanks a lot
nice show
keep going …..
Matt where do you get you cool camera t-shirts from?
Great show fellas.
Thanks again guys great show.
Speaking of bags, what do you recommend for carriing yous stuff around?
I’ve got a Lowpro slingshot, but when I carry a lot of gear it’s not too confortable…
See you next time.
Affordable underwater solutions for DSLR shooters please. Just once in a while I’d like to dip below the water’s surface for an interesting perspective, snap duck’s feet in action, etc.
Hi guys, great show!
Greetings from Denmark
Great show once again!
Hello,
Quick question, when shooting raw (NEFs) and you have vivid set on the camera, is you use Capture NX2 it does have the vivid set on it. If I am not mistaken, Adobe or any other program for that matter, does not recognize those settings correctly on the NEF file. I think it is a copyright issue or similar regarding Nikon’s NEF format. Am I right?
Regards,
Axel
I would love to see David Hobby in a Kelby Training class. Other than that, I love the training you guys give. Keep up the good work.
Can’t wait to use the lighting tip from David Hobby.
Hello. I would like to see more on the NX2.
Hi
You guys are the best…thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Hi, great tips
As always: great job guys!
Hey, a competion where I actually want the prize, the Boda Bag looks good. Nothing personal Scott but I don’t actually want any of your latest Photoshop/Lightroom books….. I can’t afford to upgrade my software
Good show again, keep up the good work.
hoi uit nederland .
top programma’s.
Hi guys,
My husband loves your show and watches it regularly; we’ve picked up a lot of very valuable information from it. Quick, silly question: Matt, where are you getting these fabulous shirts? I would love to pick up the one in this episode as a surprise. Thanks!
Love your show!!!
another great show! can you provide some example on how to balance flash and ambient when using on camera flash?
Yet again another great show! Keep up the good work!
Always good tips.
Please enter me in contest. You guys are such a treasure to us photographers and you show through all your presentations your passion for the craft…. and you make it fun. Love you all David
great show as always!
Matt i reallyyy love your shirt…where can i get that?
)
Here’s an idea for Larry and his cheap shots!! I had a carry on rolling luggage bag with a laptop compartment that I’ve converted to a camera bag. I didn’t want to pay 300+ for a lowepro that does the same thing. So I got a bunch of 1/2 inch black foam and velcro and went to town making compartments. WORKS GREAT AND I’ve gotten lots of How did you do that.. That’s a great bag!! I’ve got pictures if you would like to see!! Just wanted to spread the word.
Take care and thanks for the good shows!!
Thanks,
Brad
Would love to see David Hobby do some things on Kelby Training!
Great video, I love the bag
Hi Scott and Matt,
Could you do a segment on exposure bracketing and best practices? Also, updated long exposure shots – proper lighting, ND filters, etc.
Fun show as always and thanks!
“On behalf of myself” great show guys. (meow)
Hi guys, Im Raihan from bangladesh…I’ve been watching your show since day 1… and I just have to say you guys do an amazing job each show… I keep wondering what else i can learn and each week You guys ( Scott & Matt) never disappoint
) i just wanted to know if u guys could do a show on shooting while tethering… i Use aperture 3 and just figured out how to do it with my D90 and was wondering if u guys could offer some tips…
great show…as always.
Matt , where do by your black ‘t shirts with the logo’s up?
Marc from Belgium
Wow!
You first, you often say that you read every comment. At 859 comment, I’ll be the 860 if nobody cuts me off, that’s a pretty large task. I hope that, if you don’t read all 860, you’ll at least read the first 3 and mine.
First, Larry Bekert *sp* said he is a SB-600 strobe FANATIC and has 3 of them. Does he realize that Joe McNally is a regular and there is a coined phrase known as the Joe McNally affect that once you watch a Joe McNally course on *plug* Kelbytraining.com that you are very VERY strongly compelled to buy another SB flash.
Second, “You guys Rock!” :p
Third, I’m going to risk sending a long statement here but I fear you guys (and I include all your kelbytv series) are in a perpetual newby state. Somebody watching your podcast during 2 years can (thanks to your many expertise :p) become very talented but have problems pulling useful nuggets of information from your episodes. I would love to see hints on what a pro am photographer (which is what I now consider myself to be) can do. I learned why RAW doesn’t carry my ‘vivid’ settings to LR many episodes ago. It just seems like your perpetually stuck podcasting to the photo hobbyist haven’t advanced with your original audience.
Yea!
Perhaps a show regarding tips for creating online portfolio’s? Anyway great work. Mike/Cleveland, OH
Great tips!!
Great addition this week with David Hobby!
ur the best!!!!
Great info.
Hi guys, you rock! I need those books! Pick me!!! Alex from Romania, Europe.
