Great season guys, I hope the four week go by quickly so I can get another episode to watch.
Here is an ideas for a tip and something I’ve seen a bit on Flickr is reverse macro shots.
Hi, Awesome show and can’t wait for the next 4 weeks. Here’s some suggestions: More tips on: Shooting outdoors, go out and show us. I know that Matt did one outside with HDR, that was good. Need more of different settings, such as portraits, a Bride, or children. Etc. Studio lighting, I think would be a show alone using many different lighting equipments. Maybe inviting some non photo professionals on the show, more of a reality type of show and let them just be guests. I’ll sign up for that!
I’ve watched all of the episodes of D-town and love all of them. But being a beginner I found the first season was more to my liking than season two.
Maybe that is because I have a Nikon and I felt the show was more gear towards me.
Thanks again for a great show.
I just found you guys about a week ago and really like your show. I will watch some of your old shows while you are off for 4 weeks. Looking forward to seeing all the new stuff.
Welcome to D-Town Jim! Season 1 is packed with info. that hits you so fast. I’m still re-watching and discovering new things.
Awesome work on season 2.
As for season 3, I’d love to see something for someone beginning with fashion/glamour style shots. Right from where to find models (paid and TFP), to working with them, lighting setups (not just how to set something up, but why), getting the photos (lens choices etc.) and post production.
hi david. never realized that the dslr onone software can communicate with adobe bridge. will it be ok to give the tutorial how you set up the two to talk. thanks
Hi Scott and Matt,
Thanks for another season D-Town TV. I watch the new epsisode every fridaymorning before going to work. It gives me a lot of energy. Here’s a question for the new season: What’s the secret for a good highkey photo?
Please keep going on with the tips for nice websites at the end of each episode. They give so much inspiration. Looking forward to the next season!
Great episode guys !
I really like Dave’s calmness.
I love your shows and I’m looking forward for the next season!
One thing that I would like to see in season 3, is more about product photo (both small and large objects) – how to setup, equipments etc.
Agreed – Dave was great stand in.
When mentioning stuff like software or custom settings it would be good to just quickly mention alternatives. E.g.
Custom Settings – mention them on other camera makes. (I use Nikon custom settings lots)
OnOne Software – any other alternatives ?
Someone mentioned Flickr above – one idea for a show might be to cover some website/picture hosting services – covering the differences e.g. Flickr, Smugmug, photobucket, Picasa, Nikon+Canon’s own, etc
Sharing photos is part of being a DSLR owner after all.
Also another show idea. Think it’s been touched on but not in detail – tripod heads.
There seem to be a million and one – ball, geared, joystick, 3-way, pano etc
Manfrotto have a good configuration tool online but it doesn’t explain WHY for most options.
Dave
Great segment ob I-Phone
A major segment on the I-Pad connectivity would be great.
Maybe Moose could field test it to see if it could be used to VIEW & EDIT in the field before hiking 2-miles back to your car and if it is durable enough to be placed id a camera backpack?
For Nikon, do you need Camera Control 2 for the I-Phone or I-Pad to work?
Hi Guys,
Thank you a Ton for all the tips, information and fun!
I grew a lot since start seeing the show!!
You guys asked for ideas for the next season, I have one! Why not to talk about how start the photography carrier!
How to live from it?
That is my case and for sure the same as many people worldwide!
I`m from Brazil and love photography!
Check my site!
Thank you again,
HHirata

You guys are amazing.
Great show again guys, really great tip from Moose ,did not know that fact about the strap .
Well maybe ya guys can do a show about getting some good macro shots, love to see some tips about it .
For Nikon (D80) I use this free software to import, and point Adobe Lightroom (file/import) to automatically import pics in the same directory.
Love you shows have been watching since you started last year. I do have a tech question. I am thinking of buying a second monitior for my laptop. I need your input whether to get a monitor or an LCD TV. Knowing the TV would give me more all around use but I don’t I don’t think I could calibrate it. Please let em know your thoughts.
Thanks you for your help.
Wally
For Nikon I use the free DCamCapture and Adobe LIghtroom (file/autoImport). http://www.bernd-peretzke.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6:dcamcapture-engl&catid=1:software&Itemid=3
Great season, guys! Dave was a welcome stand-in for Scott this week, but something bugged me during the whole show…Dave was not wearing any Canadian gear! But the PhotoShop World shirt was cool.
I second the tripod head show idea. Too many choices out there.
Fantastic show, love it.
I have a cheap equipment suggestion for you. I am always looking for a better and cheaper way to carry my equipment into the field. I found a fanny pack at an outdoors sport store. It’s called the Fieldline Pro-Guide Waist Pack. It carries everything I need, a 70-300mm, 10-20mm and a whole bunch of accessories. The best part is it has D-Rings for shoulder straps. This thing is great and only cost me $49.00.
Wanted to give a heads up for anyone looking for the rubber lens hood Scott mentioned a few weeks ago by Mamiya. Currently it is on backorder and B&H. I found a similar hood that screws on to the lens and is collapsible. You can easily place a lens cap over it or screw in another filter. Best of all it is less than $10.00!

For those looking for the rubber hood by Mamiya that Scott talked about a few weeks ago ( It has not been available at sites like B&H). I found a similar rubber hood that screws on to the lens and also allows you to screw a filter or place the lens cap on the front side of the hood as well. Works great and is less that $10.00. Its a great deal.

I suggest for the new season to move the ads button in the fullscreen mode of the player, because I need to switch back and forth just to change the volume.
Here’s a bracketing tip (D3 and D300, maybe others): Set your shooting dial to single servo AF (“S”). Then go into the CSM menu, setting f4, and assign the “FUNC button press” to “BKT.” Then set up bracketing, e.g., 5 shots at 1 ev spacing. When you hold down the shutter button while also holding down the FUNC button, the camera will rip off the number of shots specified in the bracketing schedule and then stop. In the example, this would be 5 shots at 1 ev. exposure increments. A great way to get HDR shots while hand holding.
See episode 25
The tips in this episode were directed at those who may not have auto bracketting.
Can you do a segment on how far away to focus related to the focal length of the lens you’re using. I understand the 1/3 of the way into a photo when taking a landscape but I’d like to understand the above better so any tips you have would be appreciated. Great Job on the season, thanks and take care!
Can you do a episode about sequence shooting and shooting in cold environments.
cheers
steven
Another great episode. My 11 year-old son, Matthew, made a chalk drawing for you guys & then shot it with his D50.

For the tip on exposure bracketing…wouldn’t it easier to just use the EV compensation?
That’s definitely another way to do it. Just depends on what mode you have your camera in.
I love the show guys. I have been a avide litsener from Canada and always look forward to see the next one. I would like to hear a little about focus screens. How they work, why I may want to change it, and what are the advatages do the diffirent types have. I shoot with the D300 and shoot alot of landscape and some potraits with speedlites. Hope you guys can touch on this.
Thanks Kelly
I just went to the New York Auto show in NYC.
What settings would you use to photograph the cars and absolutely georgeous female models.
There is a variety of lighting being used
Thank you so much for D-Town TV!
I am a DSLR-beginner (Nikon d90) learning so much from your shows – have watched all of them and keep tuning in
What I would like in future shows:
1) Setting up flat screen monitors for optimal viewing and editing of digital photography.
2) Discussions on digital photography with or without post proces editing. Isn’t it “cheating” to photoshop images? Has digital photography wiped out the “art” of taking great pictures with mere craftmanship as in the old pre-digital-days?
Hello, I have watched all your videos and have a subject to talk about and that is, different brand lenses on nikon and cannon bodies, lenses like Leica R that now you can adapt and use them on new dslr cameras by using and adapter, one example of this is www. leitax.com , I would really like you to talk abot it, thanks and will be waiting for the next episodes,
Congrats form Argentina and Peru.
Alfonso.
How do you setup a Camare and a computer to C the shot in real time into your Laptop? Using Lightroom or other softweare?
Thanks guys for all of the useful tips. I have been a little reluctant about using a gorrillapod because I didn´t know when I could justify buying it…but I think it is a useful tool when I want to take quality casual photos with friends when we are out on the town.
Hi, Guys i love all the shows and i am learning more now than i ever had before thanks to you all.
But,
I have a question or a suggestion .
whats the chance that you open up these episodes (dtown) like you do with photoshopuserstv episodes.
It would help us slower internet connection people to play them offline, like the others.
We can download and watch at our leasure.
Wish you guys would come downunder one day.
Larry. from Australia
I love your D-Town episodes and have watched every single one ever produced. They have been very educational and I look forward to the next series.
One thing I would like to see you cover is the depth of field feature found on many DSLR cameras. I have played with this feature several times, but haven’t really figured out how to use it to a point I feel like it’s useful. Hope you guys can help with this one.
Thanks and PLEASE keep up the great work.
Drew Sumrell
Hey I know you guys did 5 episodes about lenses but how about letting people know about the manual focus lenses and how to use them compared the the new af lenses. Also converters on how to use pre ai/ai/ais lenses on canon bodies and fd lenses on nikon bodies. I would also like to learn how to use a light meter. It bugs me that i have to shoot photos a couple of times before i get the exposure right. Thanks for both seasons!
I found D-Town TV very recently, and within those few weeks, went back and watched almost all episodes – which I guess means I think it’s great, very useful, informative, and well made.
The one thing that maybe bothers me is that I wish there were even more prosumer tips. Every time I hear you guys talking about equipment, glass, etc., you make it sound like $500 or so it cheap.
I understand “good glass is expensive glass” (same going for equipment), but it’s just a little frustrating everytime I hear about a great lens, for example, when I Google it, I find out it’s way out of reach for an enthusiast.
Maybe it’s time to consider a spin-off of D-Town, the D-Town-E – rated Everyone.
Still, love the podcast, and keep it up!
(and yes, I did watch the older episodes on affordable equipment – even then, it sounded pricey for little me here…)
In the next season, can there be a detailed discussion about different metering modes and examples of when to use each type of metering mode? Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I was just wondering when you guys release the next episode of DtownTV. I can’t wait!
Thanks.
Hi guys:
Thanks so much for the invaluable information you have provided in this series, and the first.
One of the things I would like to see in the next series, is how to shoot with on-camera flash in everyday environments like parties, street photography, fairs, etc.
I want to take the best photos I can, but just can’t take along a lot of gear.
So, how about some examples on how to shoot with on-camera flash in these conditions.
Thanks again for all the great info….
Rich
Wow! Another great season guys! Love the show. I have downloaded them all as podcasts to my netbook to refer back to anytime.
Dave’s segment for the OnOne software was cool. I read the reviews and wasn’t sure, so I spent the 2 bucks on the lite version….Ten minutes later, I went back and bought the 20 dollar version… Sooooo cool, and exactly what I was looking for.
Can’t wait for next season. Your tips are invaluable. Keep up the good work.
Love the shows, some interesting stuff being discussed. Q: in episode 34 Matt’s wearing a nifty Tshirt. Where can you buy these?
Hi Guys:
Thanks for the great info.
Episode recommendation: Please have a segment on using on-camera flash during every-day life. It’s great when you can use studio lights, soft boxes, etc. , but when you are knocking around with the family at a park or something, how is the best way to use your on-camera flash to get the best pics you can?
Thanks,
Rich
Omg guys! Thank you so much. Thanks to you I discovered my 400d had AEB. I always assumed that it doesn’t have that feature and I bracketed manually (which is pain:)
hi where are you guys, the last video from 8 april it is may now
from a big fan from sweden
really amazing episodes
but what’s wrong, more than a month??
we are waiting….
don’t be late please
Time to come back!! A month has already passed!!
Great show guys, really great show. I’m totally getting the guy that recommended me the show a nice present!
Hi there you guys!
You are the best that’s happened on the web since, since the web, except keeping dates. Where is the next episode? I miss it more than any show or serie on the tv.
Hugs from Sweden!
Greetings from Canada
Bravo, I found you guys about 2 weeks ago AND you are great.
keep up the good work….
Greetings from Mexico,
Love your show, when is the next episode coming? where is my D700s? lol, just kidding, no, seriously where is my D700s?
Eagerly waiting for your next installment of pros insights…
Please explain how ICC and colormanagment works
interms of new ideas i think metering and use of nd grad filters for landscape would be great as tips
2 questions, Why no mention of a tripod in low light conditions? Next question, SB900’s run hot, do the sticky filters not melt?
Thanks for covering the Canon 70-200 lens. Love the show!
I would like to see a show featuring the new painting tools in PS5.
Love the show. Look forward to it every week. Thanks guys!
I love your show!
great show, more Canon, please.
I enjoy the show, thanks so much.
Here’s an idea: Viewfinders, don’t hear much talk about them, the specs, magnification, eyecups to improve viewing, etc.
I bought a Canon T1i about a year ago and started my photo-learning journey, but wish I had a better view of the things I’m shooting. It would really help my composition I think.
Thoughts?
