I with you, I don’t think it fired, but then I’m over 40.
Ah ah! Scott. I am 41 years old and it is completely true!
To add to Matt’s suggestion about using the AF On button, and not the shutter release, to turn on AF, I add the following advice from John Shaw, IMHO the world’s best outdoor photography teacher and a superb photographer: Setting the camera up as you describe AND leaving the autofocus mode on “C” allows you to always have the camera always ready for continuous autofocus (should some fantastic person or thing go by) by pressing and holding the AF On button, OR you can get the single focus (as if set on “S”) effect by pressing and releasing the AF On button. In other words, you get “C” by holding AF ON or “S” by a quick squeeze – you never need to touch that (Quirky) little “M-S-C” switch!
Great tips in this episode but one suggestion (for the sake of my wallet):
Provide a link to the episodes which DON’T feature Larry’s Cheap Shots segment
Its hard to fight the temptation as a photographer with the cool stuff he’s able to find for the prices he finds them for!
I kid of course
. Thanks to Scott & Matt for their continued efforts in making this weekly series available to us.
Nice show. It is hard to believe it has been a year today since your first show. Happy Anniversary! The shows continue to be informative and interesting.
Not hard to believe since they took a nice little break.
Hey guys nice show. It has been a year today. Keep up the good work. Happy Anniversary!
Another great episode! Thanks, guys.
Just FYI… ISO is pronounced “eye-so”, not said “I-S-O”
This is a super common mistake. Since most people think it’s an acronym, but it’s not.

Cheers guys, love the show!
Hi Guys,
I just discovered your site a couple days ago and just finished watching all the episodes. This is a great learnig tool that I am sure I will keep refering back to I will be looking forward to seeing all future shows and what new tip and tricks you come up with.

Du kan se afsnit 31 her [...]
How about an episode on Nikon Color Modes and how to tweak them in-camera. My D300 does not produce great out of camera images. Photogs I know that are shooting Canon are blowing away my D300 in-camera (no PP). I shoot Standard Mode, +1 Sat., everything else @ 0. Vivid Mode gives to much noise.
The Canon images out of camera look like Velvia 50, my D300 looks like Provia 100 (remember that stuff?). Canon is warmer and reproduces much better in magazines…IMO.
Thanks for any help. Really enjoy your shows.
Happy Anniversary !
I’m curious. Wasn’t the flash supposed to go off during the PW demo?
It might have been cool to actually see the flash fire during your wireless flash tip – it appeared not fire…
Also, wondering how come Canon has crept into the discussion more in your new format. I’m a Sony user, and enjoy your show.
Scott,
Am I wrong, but if I use the pocket wizards with my nikon Flash I can no longer use high speed syn over 320/sec. or adjust the output from the camera?
An excellent show idea…Focal lengths for portraits.

Great show guys, not just lip service here, y’all have really stepped up the quality and performance of my on-location shoots with your tips and gear recommendations. Keep up the good work!
any chance of you guys explaining what settings you use when using a sb800 – 900 on camera flash, and how ttl works ,..and what it is!
flash is still a bit of a mystery to a lot of people..great shows by the way !
A suggestion for future videos. Don’t wear black shirts and hold black gear in front of you to show how it works.
I have to admit I’m addicted to DTownTV. I not only look forward to Friday for the weekend but for the next video. Keep up the great work!
Love the shows….but…did the flash fire?
Great show guys, keep up the good work. Just wondering when you used the pocket wizards if the flash actually fired. I could not see it flash in the video. Maybe the video did not catch it.
Hi guys! It was good show, bit short, but otherwise it was good. Could you talk about photo books and pro photoprinting service in USA. Maybe some sites and tips… Thank you!
Could you include link to pocket wizard transmitter(s) and cable to use with off camera flash? These podcasts are a great resources=; many thanks.
Oh dear! When Scott connected the Pocket Wizard and then fired a shot, the flash did not flash!
A big thank you for your wonderful weekly show, I’m a happy Nikon photographer from Denmark
Great show again!
Why was there only the pocketwizard Plus in the show, maybe a show item about the pocketwizard mini and flex tt5 when there is also the nikon version at the end of this month??
Scott see you in a few days?? when you want some photo locations in my home town Nieuwegein or to eat some birthday cake on saturday?? let me know.
Friendly regards,
Perry
How about some tips on shooting indoor sports. When I shoot indoor sports shots now, they come out very dark since I have the speed up high or they have a lot of noise if I turn the ISO up. I know a faster lens will help but I don’t want to shell out a lot of money. What are the best settings when I use my f5.6 lens?
Great show, once again, but perhaps I’m missing something regarding ISO. If you set your cam to “auto iso” then won’t it automatically lower or increase the iso when you change aperture or shutter speed? If so, they is it necessary to manually change the ISO before taking a shot?
Can anyone plz advise?
And no, the flash didn’t fire. Surprised Matt missed that.
My guess is the flash did fire but with the online video it fired between frames. Just a guess here. And I think Kelby said in last years videos that he “will not” wear anything other than black shirts.
As always…good show guys.
Is Moose going to be doing any outdoor tips this year?
LOL – I’m way over 40 and was watching this from the other room. It definitely didn’t fire
. On a totally different note: You guys are amazing. Do you ever sleep???
I’m with you Marianne, do these guys sleep!? I see Scott Kelby involved in everything photo related under the sun. Matt isn’t far behind. Do they not have kids? Or do they just not see them much!
I have also moved my auto focus to a button on the back of the camera. On a Canon 50D it is Custom Function IV-1 set to 2. This is especially useful in panorama photography where you need to make multiple photos fixed to the same distance.
When the auto focus is tied to the shutter button, you have to set your camera to manual focus (and not forget it to set it to Auto afterwards!).
Hi guys – good stuff, as usual, but you might want to follow up with a caveat to Matt’s AF-ON button tip at the start of the show. I just got a D300s, and was psyched about changing to this method of invoking auto-focus – UNTIL I learned that, by doing so, you lose VR functionality. In my case, that was a fatal flaw in an otherwise wonderful idea.
When you used the Pocket Wizard the flash didn’t go off.
I have tproblem to see this video
please help me
