Great show guys, I can’t wait for all the Nikon goodness yet to come. If you need a guest to give tree shooting tips, I’m your man. Hi Matt.

  2. Mitchnash1 says:

Love this new show. Looking forward to episode 2. Would love to see an unbiased demo of the HD Video feature on the D90.

  3. Robert Theoret says:

    Hi Scott & Matt,

I think that this new feature of your programs will be a great hit for us Nikon users, I know I will be tuning in to pick up as many tips as I can for my D3 and D2X. If I can I will also send in some little tips that I have also discovered on these cameras.

Thanks guys and good luck with the episodes.

  4. First Comment!

Great show guys! I love what you’re doing here and I’m hungry for more!

I know you mentioned a few sites in the episode but including the links in your description would be a plus, I’m sure, for people who want to learn more.

    Here’s to a great start!

    All the best!

  5. Jarred S. says:

Cool show, Enjoy getting tips on Capture and not just the usual Photoshop tip; even though realizing photoshop is a bigger program. The GPS demoed is a great one. I have it myself, but found it odd you guys didn’t hype Nikon’s new GPS. Especially being a Nikon video segment and all. Plus with the GPS being in the hands of some people already. Either way keep up the good work guys! Looking forward to what is coming.

  6. papadoc says:

Great 1st show, guys. Picked up 3 great tips….look forward to the series….

  7. Dexter says:

    Hello!

Awesome show! I already watch you guys on photoshop user tv, so it’s just another way to get more tips from you guys :D

One comment though, that fake background you guys are using is awful! Can’t you guys just use the same background as photoshop user tv? Or even a studio setting (like the first tip Scott had)?

  8. Martin says:

Awesome show guys, thanks for the tips, I’ll be expecting more shows in the future… Thanks!

  9. Terry F says:

What a great idea. I just love the concepts that you guys come up with. Thank you very much for putting this together. It is sure to be another hit!!

  10. Dan Ablan says:

Awesome idea guys! Congrats and thanks for sharing.

  11. Stephan says:

    Hey Guys,
what a brilliant idea for a new show, congrats!

    Cheers from Australia
    Stephan

  12. Jay B says:

Thanks for the tips. Nice program. I’d like to see more on the D700 and some of the difference from the D200.

  13. BaCa says:

Nice tip about WB in LV. Thanks

  14. David Cooper says:

Great idea to feature short tips on the Nikon cameras. I have used them for years but never get around to figuring out those features. Once you see it on a video it all makes sense. I don’t know any photographers that read their manuals when the get a new camera. Keep it up.

  15. hombertho says:

Thanks for the cool Video Clip in that great quality :-) I have subscribed your feed and looking forward till the next Week and Episode :-)
Will there be plans for a podcast?
    Cheers Thomas

  16. Scott and Matt, great first show. You do need to boost the audio up a bit though. Great content. Can’t wait for the next one.

  17. New Weekly Nikon DSLR Tips Show Launches Today…

Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski from photoshopusertv.com have teamed up (again ) and created Nikon D-Town. The show will be a weekly stream of Nikon Tips. As the name suggests the show is mainly concentrated on Nikon specific stuff (eg. how to activa…

  18. Nik says:

Love the show guys, especially good to see that it won’t just be a marketing gig to show off the newest Nikon accessories. Can’t wait to see what the next show will bring.

  19. Dianne says:

Cool idea — quick and easy — I picked up 2 new tricks tonight — using the Live View to set WB and the Command Dial scrolling……….not bad for a few minutes invested.
Note to self — grab the camera before starting the video — makes it easier to follow along.
    Thanks, guys.

  20. GuyE says:

Hey! Congratulations on the new podcast!
    Thanks!

  21. mike says:

Another huge advantage to using the dial to scroll through photos is that if you zoom into a photo during your review, turning the dial will move you to the next photo and preserve your zoom magnification (whereas using the multi-selector, meanwhile, will just scroll the view area within the zoomed photo).

This is *especially* handy when I fire off successive shots to combat blur and want to compare two virtually-identical photos. I just zoom in, then use the dial to flip back and forth between the images.

  22. luca says:

Thanks ! for this additional asset for learning.

topics i’d like to see covered are:

    custom setting bank
    color space setting (ADOBE/sRGB)

    thanks
    luca

  23. James Walker says:

Brilliant guys! Really looking forward to the shows.

  24. Hi there, I’ve just finished watching your premiere episode of Nikon DTOWN. Being a Nikon user myself, I find this a very nice initiative and I’m certainly looking forward to the future episodes.
Great job, Scott & Matt … as always

  25. Mike Lynch says:

    Thanks guys!
    Very cool and useful video!
I’m gonna go try those camera tips today!

I’d love to subscribe to this using MyYahoo, but you don’t offer it.
Can you? I don’t know what livebookmarks are, BTW.

  26. Ed says:

Nice first show. The first tip only works if you’re shooting with natural/ambient light without strobes (not a lot of time to judge when the strobes fire. Heh). Also, with the NX2 tip on adjusting using control points, you somewhat forgot to also adjust the reflection. Looks a bit odd having a nice white house with a grey reflection. i’ll def be following the show (along with the podcasts you guys do)

  27. Darren McInnes says:

Great first episode guys. the white balance tip was great. Finally! a use for live-view.

    Best Wishes,

    Darren

  28. Ian Spector says:

Really well paced first episode. I particularly appreciate the high value factor with maximum tips in minimum time. One of the weaknesses of the D3 is the shooting and custom memory banks. Just when I get them set up how I want them I will go and overwrite them by making a change with a bank selected. Why not dedicate a spot to this function. Or better still, tell Nikon to ask the guys who designed the iPhone interface to rewrite the whole menu approach.

Thanks again for the time that you have put into this.

    Ian

  29. Magnus Lillieborg says:

Great idea with this Nikon DTown! And good to mix both gear and software tips.

  30. J.moshe says:

    Thank you

  31. Filip Wiberg says:

Great video with lots of usefull tips! I will most definitely come back for more!

  32. Gregor Harih says:

Nice to see, that someone cares about Nikon users. :)
Great tips and tutorials. Keep going.

  33. Joseph says:

This is just what we need, a decent video podcast with decent tips from decent photographers!
Looking forward to next weeks show!
Would love to see you explain some of the advatages of different focusing modes next time!

  34. Tuur says:

    really liked the last tip.
set it to my d300 allready

  35. fred says:

I’m a young Belgian and I love your works (Photoshop User tv and Nikon Dtown). It’s very useful! Continue to do this podcast! Thanks you!

  36. What a great start. Thanks a lot Scott and Matt for your great efforts. I learned new things from your premiere episode and will definitely follow you guys up.

  37. SmokeJaguar says:

Well done Scott & Matt, great show!
As a new D90(Xmas pressie) owner i was worried that it would be too technical for me but my fears were unfounded. Look forward to future episodes!

  38. Juan Negron says:

Awesome first show. Can’t wait to see it on iTunes as a podcast.

  39. Ian Farlow says:

Looks great. Can’t wait to follow along each week.

  40. Rachel says:

This is such a cool feature! Thank you so much. I look forward to all you have in store!

  41. Bill Webb says:

    Superb info guys. Thank you.

Now I get the same common sense approach to my Nikon camera as I do to Adobe LR and PS.

    Thanks again.

…and I’m glad to be the first to post a comment.

    Bill Webb

  42. steve philpott says:

great show thanks, more on NX2 with lightroom or camera raw please.

  43. Jim Poor says:

Looks like you are off to a good start on the new show. Congrats. I’ll be waiting for the next episode.

I do have to point out that it drives me nuts when people say that adjusting a control point doesn’t affect the surrounding areas as it absolutely does. Even in the small version of the video, I can see the trees around the house change between before and after. The railing on the bridge also changes which is more understandable since it is the same color.

Now, is it a horrible change that will be noticed by anyone viewing the photo without the benefit of the before and after? Probably not, but the adjustment in the video does introduce a lighter “halo” around the house.

  44. John Gamble says:

Awesome stuff. You folks hit a home run. Keep it going. Great selection of topics. I saw two things that I have implemented already. Thanks.

  45. Hello guys,

I just sow your first episode and I must say that this is a great idea!!! I have a D300 for a while so I am gonna be happy for every little tip you show me/us:-)

    Thanks very much
Greetings from the Czech republic, Europe.

  46. Michael says:

GREAT! I was waiting for a podcast like this for year, and now YOU my favourite instructors finally do it. I’m so happy!

  47. Nicolas Lotsos says:

    Good morning from Athens, Greece,

Very good start with some nice tips (I had completely forgot the scrolling through your pics option that Matt showed at the end).
One small observation. Grey cards or expodisc permit you to get an “accurate” white balance result. Toggling through the white balance modes in camera you just get “different modes”, not necessarily accurate though.

Being a fan of your work, i wish you the very best with nikon dtown.

    Have a nice day!

  48. Laurel says:

I’ve been secretly hoping for this for many years! I am so excited that Matt and Scott are hosting the show for Nikon as I’ve learned so much about photography from them already. I have a D300 and only use maybe half of it’s powerful settings, I would love to learn more about the hidden features and how it would relate to real life shooting. For instance, when and why would I use the fine tune lens setting..how would I know if my lens if off balance?

    Cheers,
    Laurel

  49. Steve says:

Get show guys! As always! One question is there a related podcast of the show?

  50. Kingsley says:

    Great first episode guys!

love the gadget tip on the GI-GPS – as I’m heading up to Singapore next weekend for a shoot and photowalk… now if I can only get one in time!

    Cheers

  51. Rehan says:

This is just awesome. I own a D90 and I will checking out the white balance tip that you guys showed here. Now this is another show that I have to wait every week.

  52. Greg Bobbin says:

That first tip about Live View white balance was SO COOL. Thanks!

  53. Wesley Wong says:

    Dear Scott and Matt,

Viewed your premiere episode with great interest.

I’ve got one question…how different is the DI-GPS compare to Nikon’s GP-1 GPS Adaptor? Is there something in the former that is better than Nikon’s?

Thanks, and look forward to the next great episode.

    Regards,
    Wesley

  54. Great show! While it’s good to promote the new products remember those of us who are still using the older systems when you come out with tips. BTW, Scott the cameras didn’t show up well against the dark shirt, same with the dark podium. Looking forward to some more, see you next week.

  55. Dave Adams says:

Really enjoyed watching your premiere episode, Scott and Matt. Nicely produced and very informative. I’m a D200 owner and would love to hear your views and tips on minimising digital noise, especially when shooting ISO400 and above (I seem to have issues with this, even when using higher quality lenses such as the Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8).

I hope you will try and include older cameras in your show – I know the current range of cameras may take most of your emphasis (D90/300/700/D3/x) but there are plenty of people using D60/80/200/D2 etc that still have plenty to learn about using their Nikon!

    Cheers

  56. Guy Rolland says:

Congratulations Kelby, Scott and Nikon !!!!!

  57. MisterB says:

    Great new show guys!

Question for another episode: How can I leave my SB-800 on my D300 and switch between the flash firing and not firing without having to turn off the flash?

Thanks and keep up the great work!

  58. Shanin Cressy says:

I love the show, thanks so much for all your effort! I would love to see not only the high end models but the intro/starter models featured as well. I understand that there are fewer features to work with but as a student, it would really be of benefit!

  59. Victor Fomino says:

    Hi Guys,
You are doing sooooo many great trainings.
This new show that just has been started is another one.

Can you also add specific infos about tuning D200?
I will have this camera for a long time (it is not quite cheap to upgrade buying new camera each time new one shows up).
I have 2 non Nikon lens
a Tamron AF-S SP 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD for Nikon
and a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG APO HSM for Nikon.

And I am not quite happy about the quality of the pictures I take with the first one.
    Seams to be unclear.
    Any tips?

Thank you for all you are doing !

  61. Rob Dutcher says:

    Hey guys,
Cool show, I’ll check it out every week!
    Question:
Why can’t I set the command dial on my D700 to playback the images like Matt did with his D300?

    Thanks

  62. That is probably the greatest background I have ever seen.

    Ryan

  63. Jack F says:

AWESOME! This will be a very popular show.

Nikon couldn’t have picked anyone better than you two guys. I am excited about this show and looking forward to seeing more episodes.

A few things I would like to see you cover:
    * Using Shooting Banks and Custom Settings Banks
    * Using the Spot Meter
    * Tips for shooting sports, focus modes, composition ideas.

    Thanks Scott & Matt

  64. Paul Barcewicz says:

The concept is terrific, and I very much look forward to weekly episodes. Yet another reason I’m glad I’m a Nikon shooter. If fact, I am currently advising a friend about purchasing a new DSLR, and this is another reason to buy Nikon.
The Joe McNally ad was the best part of the episode!
I hesitate to criticize the master, but Matt’s Capture NX segment left me dissatisfied. Brightening the house also brightened the left end of the white bridge making it look very unnatural and…processed (I won’t say Photoshopped). It was even obvious on my ancient laptop screen. There must be better ways.
Congrats on a very appealing new project from Kelby Intergalactic!

  65. Luke Smith says:

    Good content, well presented. Thanks!

    But…
The intro music is way, way louder than the voices, and a very irritating screechy CHINKA-CHANKA-CHINKA-CHANKA racket.

Every time that racket starts I leap for the volume control, and every time they start talking again, I have to turn it back up.

PLEASE fix that. And maybe use actual music instead of screechy CHINKA-CHANKA-CHINKA-CHANKA noises.

  66. Ron M. says:

    Hey Guys,

    I am a proud owner of the D700 w/ 24-70 glass.

I love the idea of this show. I will be providing feedback on what else I would like to see later.

Never thought to use the Lv to adjust the White Balance. Thanks.

Will you be releasing this as a podcast? I keep just about all of your other shows for reference.

    Thanks
    Ron

  67. Bob Rickert says:

Really glad to see Nikon putting some additional training on the web. It is a great way to keep supporting loyal customers!
Also glad it is not a 10 minute commercial.
The ability to subscribe via Google (or other) Reader for this site and the Nikon World Site would keep me coming back.
    Thanks again for the video.
    Bob Rickert

  68. [...] Nikon D Town is a new online weekly show presented by Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski. The first episode has just been broadcast, and you can go see it yourself at NikonDTown. [...]

  69. JOSE LUIS says:

hola desde España,the truth is I envy in the United States for the love of photography and you have the broadcast by video photography techniques, and congratulations if you can make a video in Spanish or translated, thank you very much from Spain

  70. Joe Spoto says:

I am a gadget guy, and my favorite gadget bag of all is my camera bag. I really enjoyed this and I know it will help me get the most out of my cameras. BTW, as good as Scott and Matt are, I loved the commercial with McNally. I think it was my favorite part.

  71. Hey guys, great first episode.

A couple of topics I would find interesting : (1) Focus points and the various focus modes – I do a lot of portrait or landscape work so I tend to focus on a specific detail and make sure it’s sharp. I know Scott does a lot of Sport photography and uses a different setup to catch action and I’m curious to the settings and technique associated. (2) Wireless transmitters or wired shooting – there are several options for wireless out there as well as performance as I’ve found wired shooting sometimes painfully slow as I wait for the image to transfer and auto-load into Lightroom using Capture Control 2 or a 3rd party free application.

Thanks guys! I love your podcasts on Photoshop and Lightroom. I wish I could have seen you when you where in Cincinnati a month ago.

  72. Jon Diener says:

Do you guys ever sleep? Between your book writing, the NAPP stuff, Kelby Training, Photoshop User TV, Lightroom Killer Tips, etc., etc… and now this! You must be robots. ;-)

Seriously though, nice work on the the inaugural episode of Nikon D Town! Nice length, good info, good production, and no cat noises. I’ve been following you guys for years and have a few of your books, and my Photoshop & Nikon knowledge would be a fraction of what it is today, were it not for your tutorials and books. Thank you!

    Now go get some SLEEP!

    Jon

  73. Rick L. says:

Scott & Matt – outstanding! For those of us that move around a lot and tend to watch this kind of stuff on our iPods, you might want to make it more obvious to everyone that these are available as podcasts. While you can manually subscribe in iTunes at http://www.nikondtown.com/feed/, you aren’t (yet?) listed in the iTunes store.

    Rick

  74. Steve says:

Excellent! One to Two minute tips are always so helpful! You guys are doing such a great job . Thanks!

  75. Vince says:

Great Show! How about a podcast version?

  76. Great tips, I already look forward to the next edition

  77. Volkan says:

Thank you guys, the first episode includes very nice and helpful tips, the whole show is very promising. Apart from the camera tips I would like you to give us a lot of covererage about strobist-style lighting.

  78. Roy Heath says:

Thanks for putting in the time to create this. This looks like it will be really neat going forward. I’m not sure where you’re going with the Joe McNally interlude, but you have my attention.

  79. Nuno says:

    Hey Guys,

great show. We have just announced it on the Nikonians.org Website.

It is great to see all this interesting information and I´m sure you will be succesfull.
(I´ve just changed my view settings :-) )

One sugestion: I would like to see is a mix between the big DSLRs and the small ones. It would be great if there also will come up a few ideas for the user of e.G D60. Just to make sure that they also feel comfortable in the Nikon D Town.

On a future episode I’d love to see some tips & tricks on getting great sports photos, especially indoors.

    Thanks.

  85. Jorge says:

Great show. Looking forward to future episodes.

  86. paul compton says:

i enjoyed watching your first episode, Matt – Scott, some good tips and general info, look forward to the next ones.

  87. Great idea and the Joe McNally commercial is hilarious… I’ll watch every one and hope you add info on all the D series. I have a D80 ( the most use Nikon on Flickr) and love these kind of tips. Great job on the first show.

  88. Sam Uresin says:

This is a fantastic idea! Kudos to you guys.

  89. Noel Holland says:

Great show guys. Not quite as slick as your Photoshop TV and Killer Tips shows on this first episode but I’m sure that will come.

Just one problem – think you got it wrong about the Di-GPS. The D90’s gps port isn;t a USB port, it;s a Nikon proprietary connector. If you connect the USB Di-GPS to a D90 via it’s USB port I don;t think it will work. The USB Di_GPS is for Canon cameras not Nikon cameras.

However Nikon’s own GP-1 GPS unit can connect to the D90 using an accessory cable (GP1-CA90). That converts the GP-1 10 pin plug into the connector shape for the D90. It might be possible to connect the standard DiGPS and convert it for use with the D90 using this accessory cable.

  90. Ray Mains says:

Matt, like the show lots, will be sharing it with my classes that I teach on Saturday for the UofH. Please don’t forget those that have not purchased the newer cameras.
Thanks to you and Scott for taking the time and help us all. Maholos, Ray

  91. Shelley says:

Really enjoyed the video… even though I shoot Canon… I’m going to try out the live view white balance tip!

  92. John Klijnen says:

Great site with great tips. Some of these setting are obvious something we could find out for ourselves. But since most of us don’t read the manual word by word your tips are revealingly helpful! Keep up the good work, greets John.

  93. Mike Lao says:

I’m not a Nikon shooter but I’ll still follow this show! :)

  94. Will says:

Great Show, slick & concise presentation! It’s refreshing to see you guys covering Nikon’s offerings with tips that are useful and relevant to both amateur and pro alike. Subscribed! :)

  95. ashley says:

Thanks so much matt and scott….really appreciate all you do for photographers. i check out both of your blogs everyday and they both have had a big influence on my gear selection and post production.

I would love to see tips on using SB800 and SB900. I shoot a lot on location and totally “wing it” with my SB800. Fortunately it usually works out but i would love to actually know what i am doing and improve my lighting skills.

thanks again for being there nearly every day with new information.

  96. Q Master says:

Very nice. How about a “on camera flash” set of tips. Not build-in but external.

Thanks and keep up the good work!

Great show, that WB tip was superb.

    Looking forward to more episode.

  98. Anne-Mie says:

    Very nice show.
But will there also be tips for entry level SLR’s like the D60?

  99. Ryan Lusteg says:

Very informative! I especially like the last tip for scrolling thru photos as well as the white balance tip! great work and im looking forward to more episodes!

  100. I LOVE you guys! This is awesome. I’m glad they Matt time off from his starring roll in “Burn Notice” to do this. : )

  101. Joe Russell says:

Please show some tips on shooting video with the D90 and then editing the files! Rod Harlan showed some stuff at a meeting a few weeks back and it opened my mind to sooo many possibilities. I’m betting video will be a major part of DSLRs in the future and I want to get up to speed now. Great first show!

  102. T-Bone says:

    Hey Guys:
Love the idea and show. Your virtual set is nice, but black cameras on a black table and talent wearing black doesn’t make for good visual presentation. Contrast is a good thing…..Best of luck with the show.
    T-Bone

  103. Very nice – looking forward for more of these!

  104. designgeek says:

Hi, great video and thanks for the tip on the live view whitebalance and also the scroll view of photos. :D

One of things I’m interested in is tethered shooting and the software required. So that while in the middle of a photoshoot I can review the photos directly on a monitor. I’m an amateur / semi pro photographer so I don’t have a lot of money, is this possible to do on a budget?

  105. Ben Olivares says:

Great idea, Congrats !!! I´ll be here every week.

    Good Luck.

    Bn

  106. Paul Keating says:

    hey Guys.
    Love the new videos.
Loved the last tip. Been using it so long on my D80, I didn’t remember it wasn’t default.
    However, an additional tip:
While the thumb (shutter spd) command wheel scrolls through the shots like using L&R on the multifunction pad, the finger (Aperture) command wheel scrolls through the view functions (EXIF, Histogram, highlights) like the Up & Down arrows on the multifunction pad.

And one more, if you hold down the “zoom in” button and spin the thumb command wheel, you can zoom in and out much more quickly than just repeatedly pressing the zoom in and zoom out buttons.

  107. Mark Olwick says:

How about an RSS feed so we can see when new episodes are available?

    Great job.

  108. Donald O. Aldridge says:

Glad to see this established. Thanks.

  109. debbie says:

This is so awesome. You make me happy. So glad I tuned in and will be a regular. Thanks for all you do.

  110. Great show!. I’d like to see a segment on focus settings for “Birds in Flight” situations. Keep up the great work!

  111. David (UK) says:

Great show, like Scot focus settings for birds in flight would be great. Also some advice on seeting up AF Activation (Focus Trap)

  112. Steven Marks says:

    Scott/Matt,

Great idea. There is so much to use on the new Nikons.

In regards to GPS. The Solmeda having a battery of its own seems like a good idea in GPS. Also, the new iPhoto 09 automatically organizes GPS tagged photos and maps them. I thought this was a way cool feature and sold me on getting GPS for my D300. Now to figure out which one.

    Keep it coming!

    Steven

  113. Rafael says:

    Is there an iTunes feed?

  114. P.T. Korson says:

I have to say that I was slightly disappointed with this at first because I thought you were announcing that you were coming to Detroit. But after watching the podcast and visiting the site I just have to say great show and concept. I feel bad for all of the cannon shooters, I have a feeling this will be sweet. I believe it was the Cannon 1Ds Mark 3 that just got a iphone app that allows for a users manual and tips to be accessed when were on the road. Scott I know you have your photography secrets guides but I think this could be a cool partnership with Nikon to show the secrets of their product line and a mobile app would be a nice companion.

  115. Charlie says:

Loved the first show and I’m looking forward to future episodes. I would love to see a reoccurring piece regarding lens selection. Pieces could include: “Natural progression: which glass is next”, “The vital few: Important glass at every skill level”, “Little known, but not to be overlooked”, “How to buy glass”.

    Great work guys!!

  116. Barrie says:

Yay! I’m so happy that you are doing camera tips. Can’t wait for future shows.

  117. Donald says:

I like the Joe McNally clip. So, does that mean Nikon is the winner leaving the competition in the dust. Heheheh!!!

  118. Glenn N says:

Love the new show. Can’t wait for the Itunes link.

    Thx, Glenn

  119. Nathan says:

For those of you asking for an iTunes feed, just manually add http://www.nikondtown.com/feed/ and you’re good to go.

  120. anon says:

Setting a white balance from the back is dangerous…. those things are notoriously out of calibration. I guess for quick and dirty it’s good…

  121. Michelle says:

I love this idea, but would like to see some tips for older Nikon models too. I am just getting started and don’t have the money for the top of the line models.

  122. Mathias says:

    Great Show

No small talk – just great tips.

    Grats

  123. I’m a commercial, wedding, event and portrait photographer. Would love to get your imput on just 3 lenses that would work for almost everything. Want only fixed 2.8’s or less and preferably zooms.

  124. Dave Burrows says:

    Hi Guys

Great job as usual can I suggest an interior architectural shoot with mixed light sources and small strobes such a tungsten and fluorescent and get accurate colors with out color cats esp on a white ceiling in an office environment. Hope you like a challenge.

  125. Jan (NL) says:

Hi guys, great show, some good information and amusement.

    Thanks,

    Jan

  126. Arthur Lawrence says:

How about YOUR settings within the D#, D3X and D700 and why you have chosen them. Thanks, great first video. Arthur

  127. Ray Lopez says:

I love this show. I just got my D200. That tip on viewing photos with the dial was awesome…
    Count me a regular watcher…..

  128. Thiru KNV says:

Scott & Matt… this is a real good tutorial as a pilot episode. I’m loving it!!! I’ll be looking forward to the future episodes. Keep up the good job!!! :)

  129. Alex (Venice - Italy) says:

Hi guys, I really appriciated your first episode, please keep going this way.

    Thanks,
    Alex

  130. Bob says:

Great work, the info so far is very usefull. I would be interested to hear your opinion on using the histogram display and the advantages of shooting RAW.

  131. Trevin says:

Like a few others mentioned, it’d be good to have an RSS feed so we can get notified of new episodes. Alternatively, I’d sign up for notifications by email.

  132. Sebastian says:

    Hey Guys,

great idea, great tips. I’ll defenitly subscribe it as soon as it’s available on iTunes (until then I’ll watch it here :-) )
    Thanks a lot
    Greatings from Germany.

    Sebastian

  133. Jay says:

Nice “natural” looking set – not!

But didn’t detract from the useful content, very good thanks! Add my vote to RSS feed too please, be good to know when updates are ready.

  134. Mike V. says:

Very cool Premier guys!!!!!! It’s nice to have a podcast/blog specifically for Nikon shooters!!!!!! Looking forward to the the new tidbits for Nikons that you guys have to bring us! P.S. Got my Rapid strap in and will never look back when I’m on a event shoot!!!!!! Thanks Matt for bringing that too our attention!!!!

  135. Cam Powell says:

Every little piece of the puzzle helps…. thanks for the passion and all the best looking forward to future posts

  136. C-Note says:

Nice show. I have a D60 and so I hope that you guys don’t entirely ignore the lower end cameras and alienate the amateur photography crowd. That would be a real shame.

  137. Renè Andersen says:

all the way from Denmark I can say cool web. For scure I`ll come back too watch more
    Cool show.

  138. Jamie Carl says:

Great show. Pretty good for a first episode and I’m sure you’ll guys will find that groove after a few more.

That was a great tip on the review scroll. I switched over to it on my D300 and D700 last night as it’s not on by default on the D700 (which you did not mention. :p ).

    Keep it up guys.

    J

  139. Pk says:

I came to see reading about it from David Zaiser blog. Even though I am canon shooter.

Only one comment. I think presenters should wear light color or may be plain white shirt so the camera can be seen clearly :-)

    pk

  140. William Campbell says:

This is GREAT news. I will watch regularly. Loved watching you guys on the Photoshop video podcast, and I know you’ll do a great job on this also. I own D70 and D200 and am holding out for the successor to the D300 (when might that be?).

Idea for the show: (1) summarize pros and cons of DX and FX formats for those trying to decide on their next camera, (2) interviews and “how-tos” from professional Nikon users, (3) reviews of cameras and lens [of course], and (4) instruction on the Nikon wireless Flash system.

Just a note on demographics of this viewer. I use Apple’s Aperture and am looking at the many plug-ins that work with it. Lightroom and PhotoShop are great, but I don’t use them. While not a “Nikon” issue, per se, if you ever touch on software (beyond Capture NX) I would love you to consider these products as well.

  141. Roger Botting says:

Great start, I am sure the Canon crowd will be jealous!

  142. Excited about future episodes.

I would like some coaching on cost-efficient ways of fine tuning auto focus on D300. I’ve seen the lensalign but can’t afford that, but sharpness is important to me and as of yet I have been discouraged by the fine tuning features and clarity of photos (even on tripod with self-timers set).

Other than that I will soak up any and all tips. I’ve a fan of the show already.
    Thanks.

  143. Hope in seeing a Canon D-Town rising soon :-)

Keep up the good work :-)

  144. Roy McClurg says:

Setting and useing the Active Dlighting setting on the D300….. Great show what we are looking for .

  145. Paolo Sales says:

Can you demo the lens calibration tool of Nikon? Thanks!!!

  146. Jonathan Wylie says:

Great to see you guys doing a Nikon show! I look forward to more episodes soon.

The WB trick was nice. I like that and will use that on my new D90. As for the preview scroll, my D40 had done that since it was new 2 years ago. Must be something with the higher end models that need that making a default option as it is already default on the D40 and likely D60.

How about email alerts for new episodes Nikon?! I never really did use RSS that much…

More D90 tips would be appreciated, and video tips would be great!!

  147. Biscuit says:

Loved the first episode, like the scroll wheel tip and also white balance on live view, I have a SB600 and have never really figured out how best to use it, would be interested to see that. Can you make it longer next time, 10 mins seems quite short. Well done.

  148. Steve L says:

Going over DETAILED information about the autofocus options (on the BACK of the camera); the how and when to use them, and combining the AF points in a useful way.

  149. Steve Wilson says:

Great first show guys and will be tuning in regularly.

It would be great if you could instruct on ND Grads, when to use them, stop values, when to use soft or hard grads. I’m currently trying to get results for recently purchased Cokin X-pro series on D300 with 14-24 f4 lens.

    Keep up the good work.

  150. Brad says:

I loved the first episode and am looking forward to many more! I am shooting with a D3 and am really excited about your new show! Keep it up guys, Brad

  151. Barbara Okun says:

It’s about time! I am elated especially with Scott and Matt doing this show. I own a D200 and am in need of an explanation on the entire exposure system, such as the dynamic settings etc. I have the sb 800 and would like to know how to use it more with ambient light. There’s just so much more, in fact, I want to know it all. This is going to be a hit show!

  152. [...] not out yet in iTunes as a podcast but watch out for it. Right now, you can just download their premiere episode or watch it [...]

  153. ATLDOC says:

    Outstanding!!!!

  154. KevoPhoto says:

Love the Show, I hope to see older cameras being featured in the videos also, D80 for example.
More NX2 stuff, and tough lighting situations being handled by the Nikon Cameras.

  155. Alan says:

I also enjoyed the first of hopefully many helpful shows on shooting Nikon. One question for Scott, I shoot RAW in my D2x and D3, why would I need to, or want to, set “white balance” when I can so easily change it in “post”?

    Thanks Scott, Alan

  156. August says:

Excellent concept!! Please realize that there are a whole lot of D1, D2, D80 shooters out here. Point is that not everyone has the lastest (at least not yet), and my D1 is a workhorse, so if you can, please include some of the older models sometimes. Second, pls change the music. Not cool!

  157. Bob Ambinder says:

Guys, You are fantastic. This is what I’ve been looking for. I have a new D90 and I know I’m not getting as much out of this super camera as I could.
Loved the tips in the first episode. Small talk kept to a minimum. Not that I wouldn’t mind having a beer with you guys another time or place, but time is at a premium in the evenings,
    Again Bravo!!

  158. Octave Merveille says:

Short, straight to the point, simple, clearly stated, luminous…
    That what excellence is about.

  159. JunLop says:

Exactly what I’m looking for! I just bought a new D90 and still new to photography.
I can’t wait for the next episode!

  160. Gentlemen:
    Congratulations.
Very professional; amenable, short, concise, to the point.
    Well done. Our best wishes.
    Have a great time!

  161. Dee Yan says:

I can’t wait the next show, good luck guys

  162. Tom Bower says:

    This is awesome!

I have books by these two guys and they are true experts on cameras and software. I’ll be a regular here.

  163. beth says:

    Hi
I have a whole fleet of D80’s (and some D70’s packed away)
Please don’t foget about us with older gear :)

Good luck with the new DTown!

  164. Scott and Matt,

This was a great first show and I look forward to seeing more. I’d like to see come cool CLS and manual lighting setups. I’d also like to see demonstrations of some different Nikon glass, like primes vs. zooms, VR vs. non-VR, etc.

    Great job!

    Stephen

  165. Cool! I will be watching… and looking for rumors :)
    Good luck!

  166. Walter says:

What a great, simple, full of tips show you put on for us. Can’t wait to see more tips. Thanks for keeping all the ‘junk’ out of the show. Just lots of tips.

  167. Don says:

    How about a Canon show?

  168. Loved the first show. While most of the websites focus on the latest and greatest full fram Nikon cameras, most of amateurs don’t need full frame or large heavy lenses. Concentrating some attentions on the DX cameras and lenses is most appreciated.

  169. mark says:

I have been waiting for something like this for a long time. It’s about time. As long as I’ve been a photographer, there’s still tons of stuff I need to learn. Hopefully this will give me a chance to “brush up” on some fundamentals too. I am alrerady looking forward to next week. Thanks Scott. Thanks Matt. Thanks NIKON!!!!

  170. Carlos Bruno says:

Matt … Scott , hey guys … don’t you sleep at all??
What else you will invented more?
Men … remember you have wives waiting for you at home! Or not anymore …
Kidding … NICE job like always … not for nothing I have sign up for NAPP, Kelbytraining, etc, etc, etc.
Nobody like you guys to know and understand what we need.
Meantime, “the dark side of the force …” NOTHING. Good at least.

    Take care. Congrats!

  171. edward chan says:

Awesome. Thanks for imparting those lessons. Video and sound is clear and crisp

    well done guys

  172. John Avera says:

This is absolutely terrific. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  173. Love the show and your tips. I’ve programed the control wheel function for reviewing shots into my D300 and will surely use the WB in the Liveview also. Until now I haven’t found much use for Liveview so keep the tips coming.

Please clear up the mystery about high speed cards(Lexar 300x & Sandisk UMDA), readers and the max input through USB 2 vs. Firewire connections. My 3 year old PC laptop has only USB 2. What can I do to get the Max download speed from reader into LR 2?

Put me on the list for future episodes. Wow! Thanks.

  174. Nate says:

Thanks for the show. The small tech tips are great. How about some explanation of all the different auto-focus settings Nikon now offers: 11, 21, 51, 51+3D?

  175. Mariusz Pudzianowski says:

You need to put a mat down on your table so we don’t hear all the clank and scuffs as you pickup and put down your camera bodies onto that table. Or, just edit the “gonks” out in post.

  176. Simon says:

He shoots! He SCORES!!! Love it!

  177. yvette gioia says:

Great Show! Long over due for us Nikon people…Please delve into the focus/each lens settings mystery. I get slightly soft images from my D300 and I am sure it has to do with my settings be off. Thanks again. Yvette

  178. Sangeeta says:

    Hi Scott! :)

Three years ago your Photoshop UserTV got me into photography big time and changed my life for the better. I am an avid Nikon shooter due to your guidance and now I am sooo happy to see a show on the Nikon camera! That’s so wonderful..you are doing it again!

I’d love to see you guys talk about the metering features on the camera, what you use and the differences.

Thanks again for all your tutorials and tips…it’s made me a better artist in so many ways!

  179. Nash Haq says:

    Hey Scott/Matt,

    Great show,loved it.

I think the show could really benefit from another 5 minutes of content.
That would also give you a cushion to discuss some of the tips that take more than a few mins to discuss..

    Waiting for the next episode!!

    Nash

  180. Bob Ray says:

Very good idea and solid first show.

You may want to rethink the table microphone as it didn’t have much to add to the show other than some hollow grunts!

As a Nikon® guy for many years, I’ll be here every week.

Thank you both [and take McNally shopping for some cowboy duds. There's got to be a wardrobe budget, yes?]

  181. lightdrops says:

Sorry to say, but these tips are really poor. Especially doing the WB via the Lv Mode won’t work, ‘cos the camera LCDs aren’t calibrated (you can do so, but that’s really time/cost intensive). Big color surprise, when you look at such “WB Lv adjusted” pics on a hardware calibrated monitor at home. :-o
So you better stay with the old greycard method. :-) )
Though, wish you all the best for your show! The format ist great.

  182. Joe Sepulveda says:

    Scott & Matt,

Fun stuff, I will try out the WB trick tomorrow. I shoot with a D300 and have not updated the firmware since I purchased the body over a year ago. How about a few tips on what the new firmware update offers?

Appreciate all of the resources – Joe

  183. Mark says:

Great concept with short, practical tips!!! I would like to see some tips on getting “tack sharp” photos via the Nikon focusing system – D3 – still having some problems with this complicated system.

  184. Great first show. Any chance there will be some tips on the D40x in future?

  185. Steve says:

Looks great but can we get a transcript or captioning for those of us who are deaf?

  186. Jon Ride says:

What a cracking show. Keep it up.

  187. Smitty says:

    Scott & Matt,

Glad to see some Nikon tips out there and can’t wait for the podcasts to begin. Looking for more tips on metering.

    Thanks.

  188. Ron says:

Great opening show. I love the concept as it is an idea whose time has come.!!!! I look forward to more detail on features for Nikon d3/d700. I know you were dealing with the most popular issues out there. Men keep up the good work

  189. Andrzej says:

    Well done! Greetings.

  190. Dan Frost says:

    Hey

    Great show, couple of things……

    1) Can you add the the show to iTunes so I can watch it on the road with my iPhone?

    2) Don’t forget to talk about some of the older Nikon gear such as the D80, not everyone can afford the latest camera.

    Cheers

    Dan

  191. CM says:

Thanks heaps for including the D90 . .. .will watch this weekly. Great opening show.

  192. GAMaus says:

    Hi!

Nice Show! I would like to see more – like 30 Minutes instead of only 10 :)

  193. Rogier Bos says:

    Scott and Matt,

Wow, I’m so excited about you guys starting a show especially around Nikon gear! I imagine you’ll catch some heat for not starting a Canon-show as well, but as a Nikon user this works for me fine.

One suggestion: since the camera’s are black already, can you wear light-colored shirts? It’s hard to see what you are doing on the camera when you hold it against a black background.

You asked for suggestions: would love to hear tips for colour-calibration and getting better skin-tones. Hope you guys will also spend a lot of time exploring the fun stuff you can do with Nikon’s Creative Lighting System.

    I own a D700 and D300.

    Thanks,
    Rogier

  194. Chris says:

What’s so amazing to me is not only are Scott and Matt THE Photoshop gurus, but their dang fine photographers, but now they throw some NX2 our way as well. You guys rock way too hard….get some sleep but please keep it coming!!!!!

  196. Ignacio says:

Hello Scott and Matt, Hello I am writing from Argentina, I think this fantastic program, congratulations

  197. Great First Show.. Congrats !

1- I’d like a show on how to use the feature called “My Menu” I have a D300/D200

2- I’d like to see the technique of “Flash Blur” with the SB800 with a Dx body.

  198. bruce says:

Awesome show, guys! Have to check it out to see when it is available as a podcast. Would be pretty neat to download it into my iPhone and carry it around for reference. You guys are really amzaing.

  199. Don Simpson says:

Enjoyed the first show. Would like to see something on focus system, SB800-900, R1C1 flash, and the multiple exposure modes. I too don’t understand the need for white balance when shooting in raw mode.

  200. derrick says:

    Scott and Matt

Thanks very much for your program and I am forwarding it to the Nikon shooters that I know.
I am glad you have mentioned the d90, and I hope you will continue to do so. Like many of already said I hope you cover that camera as well as the D80 and D200 & 300.
    Thanks

  201. derrick says:

    Scott and Matt,

Thanks very much I look forward to each new show. I have forwarded the link to several of my friends. Like others have said I hope you will continue to mention and show the d90 stuff as well.

  202. Informative premier show. I’m looking forward to future broadcasts as there is nothing like this on UK TV. God bless the internet!

  203. Harry from Finland says:

    Scott and Matt

This was great stuff.I know that you are full of ideas and you will share these ideas with us.

I would like to have attended your training sessions ,but unfortunately I live here in Finland.

This is a way to get good information from you to all Nikon users. I have several books from you

both. I always read your Killer tips. Keep up the good spirit.

  204. George says:

Great show! I can hardly wait for the next one – the format show is perfect for tips and tricks but from time to time it might be great to go into details ( photo techniques etc.) and who knows maybe a full one hour of info a week :) . I Know i ask too much but if the show had been broadcasted every day i would nt miss one! – sorry for eventual mistakes – i m still learning english :)

Good job! and good luck people!

  205. marc forrest says:

Scott and Matt this new Dtown effort is GREAT and much appreciated.

i wonder if you could explore the problems of neutral density. i’ve recently acquired a D300 to replace my old nikon F3hp… i have no neutral density filter and wonder (before i commit to buy one) if this awesome new digital dslr could be set to create/program a double bracket solution specifically for neutral density? i dimly understand that that i’d want one exposure set to bring out the details in shadows and midtones – more exposure. additionally a second exposure would be needed to protect detail in highlights – less exposure. i could take these two (tripod taken) images into CS4 and mask or use some other way to get the best of both images…

am i loosing it here? or is this a realistic custom setting for the nikon D300?

thanks for your brilliant work in both this new endeavor and your solid photoshop user TV series.

    tws

  206. KARL BLOHM says:

    Scott andMatt,
You both have been instermental in my persute of photography. I think this show is a great idea and hope it will do well, you know “a little photo fix “,if you will, makes the day better and I love to soak up just about every thing I can about photography. Sometimes it is nice to hear little tips and tricks ,especialy with the D3 & D700 GREAT JOB keep it up.
    Thanks .

  207. mike hadley says:

nice show and look forward to future shows.

  208. Hans from the netherlands says:

    Scott and Matt,

Great show, i have a new D90 great camera and a beginner, and i look forward to the new show

maby the next time how i set aperture en shutterspeed with a sb 400 ,

i waiting for the next show

    greetz Hans

  209. Craig Mason says:

Great show-as a new user of a D90 I am anxiously awaiting the next installment. As a suggestions, how about a segment on macro photography and good glass for macros. A segment on which teleconverter works well with the D-Town crew would also be appreciated. Thanks

  210. Terry says:

    Scott and Matt,

I like the show. Nice information and brought with a professional style. I like that there is not a lot of goofing around like on the Photoshop TV show. Please keep it professional I’ll keep watching.

    Thanks

  211. Great show.

I would like to see how the auto focus modes work, tracking, 9 point, 51 point etc. The instructions in the book seem totally confusing, so I end up using single point, single time, or just AIS manual focus lenses like I have been doing for 50 years. Never have a focus problem, but I am sure I am working too hard and not taking full advantage of the technology I paid for.

    My cameras are D40, D200, D700

Please continue with NX2 tips. I am trying t convince myself I like it, but so far CS3 with new Nikon Picture Controls or camera profiles (ACR 4.6) wins out.

In fact you could explain why all the picture controls are even necessary as I find only camera beta standard or neutral get me the most natural looking colors and contrast. Portrait is also good. All the rest make a pretty unuseable picture as far as I am concerned.

  212. Elliot G. says:

Even though I’m a devout Canon shooter, I will watch anything that Matt and Scott do. Their first tip about white balance also works with the Canon eos 5d Mark2.
    Very nice tip–thanks alot.
    Elliot G.

  213. Andre says:

Nice show. Definitely looking forward to see more of this.

You were asking about ideas for future shows. Here’s one: I’m a new owner of a D700 and I can’t get a grip around these Shooting/Custom Banks. Especially because most of the time I’m shooting RAW. I just don’t see how they can benefit me. Would be nice to get more insight on how and when to use them.
    Thanks

  214. dave says:

Great tips especially the White Balance. I have a Canon 40d but the idea still works the same. Much better TV presentation when Kelby stops messing around. Wish the guy would act the same on PTV

  215. Paul Keating says:

Mary, if you want three constant f/2.8 zooms to cover everything, there’s a reason the 14-24mm f/2.8, the 24-70mm f/2.8 and the 70-200mm f/2.8 zooms are referred to as “the holy trinity”

    ;o)

  216. Spencer R. Rackley IV says:

    Scott and Matt,
I would like to see a demo of the various usage of the SDK for some of these cameras.

Thank you, you two. Great, great, great!!! More and more Please….

  218. John says:

Awesome video and I’m glad to see you guys (Scott and Matt) are doing it! I loved the tip about using the Command dial to scroll through your images, very cool! Love the white balance thing too! Looking forward to more shows!

It wouldn’t hurt to have more cameos of “that guy” with the itchy shutter finger too! =)

  219. Lenard J C Lim says:

    Hi Scott and Matt ?

It’s a great show, like it very much. I’m Malaysia and a D90 user. I watch your show via internet. I hope you guys can cover topic like where to get nice Picture Control for D90 and others. Also on various Nikor lens. Keep them coming pls!! Thank you!!

  220. JP Gomes says:

Greetings from this Portuguese D300 user !
Scott and Matt what can I say that has not been said yet? Got Scott’s Books, DVDs, downloaded PhotoshopUserTV casts! THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge! Maybe someday there will be a training sessions in Portugal? all would be most welcome! Keep up the excellent work.

  221. Mike Downey says:

I love it! Great job, guys!

I’d like to learn more about how to best-use the SB-800/900 flash units with my D700. It seems that no matter how much I read and how hard I try, I just can’t figure out how to best use my flash unit. Tips on when to use them, how to set them, and how to best bounce light would be very helpful.

Another useful tip that I give my friends to much gratitude is how to use the exposure lock and focus lock. It seems like such a simple function but so many shooters I’ve encountered aren’t aware of these controls and how useful they are.

Finally, I think explaining metering modes would be very useful. I find myself explaining these to my friends rather frequently as well.

Keep up the great work and thanks for the info!

    Regards,
    Mike

  222. diane says:

I can’t believe I got 3 great tips from a 10 minute show! Keep up the good work!

  223. John Burgess says:

Excellent. Both tips were good. I’d like more on focus modes.

  224. Nando says:

Nice Job…But, the lighting was very poor. I had a hard time seeing what Scott and Matt were pointing to on the camera. Other than that it was GREAT-

  225. Dean Mueller says:

Thank you for a terrific show. I’m very happy you are starting this for Nikon users! I can already tell I’m going to be spending money on the tips. I have just purchased the GPS unit for my D300 based on Terry White’s blog. For future epidoses, I’d like to see more on using my D300 and the SB-800 flash unit. I’d really like you guys to come on with your own D300 guide. I’d buy that in a heartbeat, (as I have with most of the stuff you guys write).

  226. Harold says:

Great stuff guys. Ihave already learn some neat and quick stuuf from the 2 of you. I would love to see more on my new D-300 being use. I’m like the others, only the video was a little dark on this end to see, but beside that it was great. Keep it up. I knew I was going to like being a nikonain member.

    Harold

  227. JOe says:

    Scott, Matt:

Went to di-gps.com, don’t see any support for d90 on their site.

    ??

  228. Shmulik says:

    Great idea and implementation.
But, the movie does not go till the end.
Tried it several times with several browsers, and it always stopped before reaching the end of the movie.

    Waiting for the next session.

    Shmulik

  229. Bob Pinaha says:

Wonderful stuff! And, oh so timely too as I had just inquired through the NAPP website about purchasing a Nikon D300 and the necessary essentials for getting started. I’d like to know about essentials for starting out (and those on a budget), the difference in lenses and about f-stops and well, just about everything! And this would be a great website for selling Nikons (hint, hint)!

    Thanks!

    Bob Pinaha

  230. Alexandru (Romania) says:

    Scott and Matt,
Great stuff :) Is there a way to download the weekly episode? Thanks.

  231. Ralf says:

@ Scott and Matt and Stuff

Thanks for the great show and the tips. Please tell us more about “capture NX2″

  232. Congrats with the first episode. Love the practical “in the field tips and tricks”. The beyond the manual stuff. I have a D90. It has lots of options, but what are the pros and cons for certain situations. For example, I use the AEL/AFL button for Focus Lock and have it on continues focus mode, heard that on Nikon Image Doctors podcast and that works for me. Keep it up. Cheers fm Sydney

  233. Phillipp Xavier Sommer says:

    Hello Scott and Matt

I have just watched your first show, and I liked it, and I´m looking forward to see the coming episode. The tips that you share, white-balance in live view, are very helpful

I have an idea, that is to show how to open up several RAW-files to Jpeg in one movement.

    Thanks guy´s for your show.

  234. Chapay says:

Мля, а чо всё по-английски то? Пускай переведут, а то я в школе плохо учился.

  235. dave says:

A good first effort but with much of the set, the cameras and clothing worn being black it was a little difficult to see what was being shown. Better lighting may the answer or maybe Scott needs to wear clothes that aren’t black !

The more professional approach is much better than Photoshop TV which I stopped watching some time ago because of the constant juvenile behavior on the show. Looking forward to future shows.

  236. Deb Green says:

Just watched the first episode – thought it was effective, efficient, very “to-the-point”. I’ll keep watching! Thanks Guys!!

  237. Art Smolensky says:

Outstanding. I have a number of Nikon D-SLR’s and used to be in the business. I find the current instruction books written poorly (they even were back in my day). After watching the Premiere episode, I learned more about my cameras than from three hours of reading manuals. I also ordered a DI-GPS.

  238. Bill Pador says:

Excellent 1st shows guys ! Loved the tip on changing the image scrolling to the wheel, I found a new friend LOL. BTW I submitted a show idea on using the different focusing point selections to get the best results in the field using a D300-D700-D3 etc., hope you find it interesting enough to produce an episode answering my questions ! Keep up the great work mates !

    Bill Pador

  239. Sandy says:

Woo hoo this is great! thanks!!!!!

  240. Mark Suban says:

On this first episode of the D-Town, there’s a reference to th D90 port on the side marked GPS. This isn’t a standard USB mini plug. It’s a plug designed specifically for GPS moduals such as the Nikon GP-1.

  241. Greg says:

Thank you for the informative show. Please continue to give tips for the D90. Also, more tips about NX 2 (a subject worthy of a channel of shows itself?) would be great. For example, it appeared in the premier show that the bridge within the adjustment area was also whitened, but left grayish in the area outside the adjustment circle. A follow-up on the next show might be how could this have been avoided and just the house and not part of the bridge be whitened. Thanks.

  242. Very good 1st episode. Very informative and useful! Keep’em coming!

Here’s a link showing support for the Nikon D90
    http://www.di-gps.com/di-GPS/mini_2s.htm

Great First Show Guys. I’m looking forward to next week.
Could you please discus D-Lighting on the D90.

  244. ScottRR says:

Super. Thanks. d300, adding d700 soon. BTW, did not read all comments, but no problem viewing or with black contrast. Maybe mention monitor calibration for some shooters :)

  245. William L. (Frank) Collons says:

This first show was great…I just purchased a D90. I hope you feature many tips and info on this camera…

Thanks very much for this great feature to NAPP members…

  246. Mike S says:

    Scott & Matt,
Great first show. As a D300 owner, I appreciate the fact that this is aimed at us Nikon people. I especially like the balance between hardware and software tips. Keep it up. (Is it next week/next show yet?) Thanks.

  247. Vince says:

    Loved it. Thanks.

  248. David Gray says:

    Hi, Scott and Matt-
Excellent show; I learned 2 new and useful techniques today, thanks to you guys!
But now I have a case of the “I wants” for the DI-GPS Pro L…

  249. Sven says:

Nice show but setting the WB in a studio environment as in the video does not seem to smart. Camera will WB for color of the lamps in room and not the flashes!

My tip: Set WB to flash and adjust in post-processing.

    Kind Regards /Sven

  250. William says:

Hello Scott and Matt! thanks a lot for this program.I use to watch you guys at PSUTV and now !m very happy to find a program like this! congratulation to you all!!

  251. Frank says:

Awesome episode, guys. Looking forward to future episodes. Keep it up!

    Some ideas for future episodes:
    - Demystifying the Auto-ISO feature
    - Your thoughts on the preset Picture Controls — do you use them, do you use your own?
    - What do the Active D-Lighting settings actually do (Auto, Extra High, High, Normal, Low…)
    - When to shoot RAW
    - How to clean your camera and lenses

  252. Ricardo says:

Hi my name is Ricardo, Thanks this program is very helpful. I have CANON please speak about this camera too.

  253. Bob says:

Great Tips guys, I look forward to next week.

  254. John Edwards says:

Great show, i have a canon 50d but thought i would watch anyways, great tips, and the segment on choosing wb using live view worked great on the canon as well. Great Tip!!

  255. Bruce Tucker says:

    Scott & Matt,

I have been watching both of you on Photoshop TV for years now and you guys do a great job. Always easy to follow and very useful information every time. Nice to see you doing this for us Nikon shooters too. Please keep up the great work and keep providing those great tips & shortcuts.
    I agree with Frank’s suggestions about :
    When to shoot RAW
What do the Active D-Lighting settings actually do (Auto, Extra High, High, Normal, Low…
Would also like to hear more about shooting HDR with the D700
Looking forward to your next show.

  256. So glad I was told about you guys.Scott for the last few years I have read all your books. i’m on CS4 now. thank you

  257. Marie Pelletier says:

I very much enjoyed your show! Your tips were very helpful. I am looking forward to your future episodes.

  258. Lark Allen says:

I have started to shoot for HDR photos with my D300. Can you cover the settings for shooting bracketed series for HDR. Also, it appears that the I can only get a maxium of 1 stop per shot, where the recommendation would be for 2 stop increments. Can I set the camera for 2 stops/shot?

  259. sharaff says:

That is a very good tip, in fact I used to do that a lot. Starting from my D300 and now D700.

  260. Duane says:

Great program and I’m excited to have found it right off the start of it!

I love the idea of teaching us how to properly clean lenses and bodies.

It would be great if this vodcast could be commercial free…

  261. Roland says:

Thanks very much for the helpful tips.
    This was a wonderful idea.
    Loooking forward to more episodes.
    Roland

  262. Hi Matt and Scott. Lovin’ it! That’s all I can say, because you guys are for real. I’ve watched PSUTV for over a year now, and through that you guys have tout me Photoshop. It has also inspired me to purchase my own camera and start shooting. I’m only 15, so sadly I couldn’t afford one of the high end Nikon’s, but I’m stoked about the D80 that I could afford :D I just can’t tell you how happy I am that you guys will be teaching me my photography skills as well. If I have to come up with a suggestion it would have to be (out of personal interest as well ;) ) to have some tips for lower end cameras as well (just a few once in a while). Again thank you, you guys are the best. Oh yeah by the way, where’s Dave? haha

  263. Tim says:

Hi Scott and MattGreat show, only wish it had been longer. Can’t wait for the next episode. It was about time there was a specific Nikon feature and you guys have really pulled it off. Brilliant

  264. Hans says:

    Nice new innitiative!
Question: Could you spread some light on dustremoval (D3)? It’s allmost impossible to do it yourself.

    Thanks!

    Hans (the Netherlands)

  265. Maria Nilsson says:

    Hi Scott and Matt!

Thanks for letting me know my camera (D300) without reading the manual. :)
Looking forward to follow you here.

    Best regards
    Maria in Sweden, Edsbyn

  266. Raymond says:

    Hi Matt and Scott,

This is awesome! Great episode with good tips. Keep on the good work. Some ideas on my mind for future episodes:

    - Histogram utilization
    - Protecting your gears out in the wild
    - Flashing tips

  267. Hi!
I’m the happy owner of a D90 and I will definitely come back here to check out your tips.
    Thanks a lot!

  268. Great stuff, guys! Future topics of interest to me and my circle of photo friends:

    - Camera cleaning (when? how?)
    - Histogram use best practices.
    - Adobe LR2 image catalog / organization best practices.

This is good stuff you are doing. Keep up the good work!

  269. Don says:

This was a big advertisement. The tip for white balance was lame. I’m sorry to be so cruel but it was.

The GPS is pretty neat though.

The NX2 tip was alright but not clear enough.

I hope future episodes are not so plain and simple, and you can offer more to advanced users

  270. Edward Amarante says:

Hello Scott and Matt. Excellent! I’m looking forward to future shows. Would like to see more tips on NX2. Thanks and keep up the good work
    Ed

  271. Chris says:

Sorry Don, but I think your comments are ridiculous. For me, the tip on white balance was brilliant – would never have occurred to me to use LV. And this illustrates the obvious, namely that people with widely differing experience need help and tips at different levels. What appears obvious or simplistic to some is going to be a great help to others. Inevitably, a lot of people looking here are going to be told things they already knew.

Me, I’m grateful to have discovered what looks like an excellent place to get advice.

  272. Gianluca says:

I found the tip on the white balance in live-view simply great, thanks!
By the way: Nikon is pronounced “knee-kon”, at least it is written in that way in katakana ;-)

  273. Tony traub says:

Thank you . I love getting these little tid bits of info. Would love to see an episode on exposure,
espesially one on exposure with flash and how to properly use a flash meter.
    Keep up the good work.

  274. Jos says:

    I thought i knew my D700 well.
But the tip of the whiteballance/LV was new and useful.
    Thanks.

  275. Boy says:

Top! I would like more to know some flash tips. What is the best combination to adjust the flash: manual mode (sb600/800), aperture, etc. I will be back with you. Gr. Boy

  276. Neil says:

    As always cool stuff guys.

I’d love to see a show on using the various Nilkon Flashes. Something pretty simple though, like look what you can achieve with a simple off camera flash. i.e. no studio or umbrella’s etc.

    Keep up the good work.

  277. Frank says:

Nice presentation with good info. You’ve already hit on a problem I’ve run into. I have a remote cord plugged into my 10-pin connection. I’d also like to use a GPS which also must be plugged into the 10-pin connection. How can I do both?

  278. Gary Eckel says:

Best of luck Scott & Matt, I have a number of your books and I find them very useful and easy to understand. This is a great initiative, I am sure it will be successful. I have a D300 and any tip or advice that you provide is appreciated. The tip on using Live View to adjust White Balance is very simple but I would never of thought of using the Live View for this before… great tip!.
In future episodes if you could provide some clarification on the flash Auto FP and what it means it would be appreciatewd.

  279. Randy says:

Excellent as usual. This is a great idea! Thank you so much. I’m really looking forward to these weekly tidbits of information.

  280. Enjoyed it very much, looking forward to your next episode.

  281. richard hardy says:

really enjoyed the liveveiw white balance tip l’d like to see more tips such as that maybe even some camera setting for different types photography, but i’ll be a regular here looking forward to the next installment.

  282. Lee says:

Loved it but could you set the volume a little louder. I had the website all the way up and the vol onmy laptop (ok so laptop speakers aren’t the greatest) all the way up and I found myself hearing but wishing I could get just a little more volume.

Loved the White Balance and the Photo review tips. So obvious but I never thought of them. Read Busch’s book on the D300 twice and don’t remember them being mentioned. Makes me wonder what else?

    Keep it up.

  283. Ralph Speer says:

Greeeaaaaat Keep it up. Have owned Nikons since the SP versons and still willing to learn more.
    Thanks

  284. Haris says:

Great job guys. Loved your first episode, very informative. Keep it up

  285. Khalid Aziz says:

hi guys, you did a really great job and I can’t wait to see your next episode. the white balance tipp was great but to use the studio environment as an example was not that good, cause when you use studio lights (with a totally different light temperature) you will have a misaligned white balance :) So you can use this method of setting the white balance only with continuous light

    greetings from Germany

  286. I like the initial information the program has to offer. I would like to see in the upcoming segments how the top 5 of the D-series are uses in doing portraits under natural light, control lighting (florescent) and flash. In particular, test subjects in the studio depicting wedding, product and garments. Your information on light balance in live view was very good.

  287. I really enjoyed the show. Keep up the good work guys. Oh, and Matt, Thanks for sticking up for those of us who are d300 users and can’t afford or don’t have fx Nikon lenses for the d3, or d700.

  288. Sean says:

Great episode guys. Being a new D300 user, its great to find somewhere that focuses on Nikon stuff.

  289. Art says:

Great show – well produced and informative. I’m looking forward to more.

    Thanks

  290. Tim says:

Nice presentation. Too bad that the bandwidth is so limited. The feed, viewed on my very robust system, paused every few seconds. VERY annoying.

  291. Jonathan Knights says:

    Great tips.
    Thanks Scott and Matt.

    Something for the futre:…
    Using LiveView.

  292. Tom Bruno says:

Great show. As a Nikon shooter I’ll tune in every week.

But Scott, one problem I had: On the PC screen, your black shirt and the black tabletop and Julie’s black shirt etc. caused a loss of detail. I couldn’t see the camera very well! Maybe you could use a white or light colored shirt, like Matt’s, and a white table top to bring out the camera detail on our home screens.

Thanks for coming up with this show!

  293. Michael says:

I would like to know how the SU4 can help with wireless flash. I have 2 SB-24’s that I am wondering if the SU4 would convert them to wireless and what capabilities would they retain. I currently have 3 SB800’s and a R1C1 kit, to use with a either D700, D300, or D200.

  294. Larry Arrington says:

Tim remarked that it was ttoo bad that the bandwidth is so limited. The feed, viewed on my very robust system, paused every few seconds. VERY annoying.” I had the same thing happen to me. Is it simply a bandwidth problem? I can view almost every other video online with no problem.

  295. Ramsey Ksar says:

Hey guys, great job! I was visiting as a Nikon D700 owner but in the end I realized that I actually wanted to chat with you guys and ask questions. By the way, love the tip on white balance. I actually haven’t become accustomed to using the LiveView feature…but now I think I might!

So, on another note if you have a minute, I’d like to talk to you about the company I work for (http://gsnap.com). I was thinking it would be really cool to embed one of our Snapcasts directly into dtowntv.com to host maybe a weekly (moderated) chat. You can upload pics, video snippets, etc… I was thinking this would be a great idea if maybe once a week you could answer questions about the latest video, upload live pictures perhaps…who knows. There’s lots of room for creativity. Let me know if you’d like to chat…by the way, there’s no charge for use of the product.

    Thanks,
    Ramsey

  296. PT says:

Caught the first episode – no bandwidth issues to speak of, but unfortunately no useful content in it for me (owner of a D80 and using Apple’s Aperture 2). I guess if one doesn’t own the latest and greatest gear, NIKON, Adobe & Kelby don’t want us included! Too bad, I’ll have to look elsewhere,

  297. Jp says:

Will commentary and tips be restricted to higher end Nkons. I shoot a D-80. Some tips might be all encompassing.

  298. Ed says:

Great first show, guys. My only questions is:
Is there a reason you’re going for the Di-GPS rather than the Nikon GP-1?

  299. Katie says:

I love the idea of a weekly video, but as a shooter of a D60 I couldn’t use many of the tips or follow along. Consider doing a few for the more lower end cameras.

  300. USP45 says:

    Good show!
Interest for me for the future:
    - auto-ISO: what the heck?
    - off-camera flash using CLS and manual.

  301. Frank A. says:

I would love to see you guys cover how to get the right exposure when using flash. I’m talking off camera and no TTL. Maybe how to use the Sekonic meter. NOBODY has covered how to use the meter yet in a simple but FULL manner. THANKS.

  302. sam says:

I love you for that last tip Matt for the D300. I have wanted that feature so bad and now I have it!

  303. Mike F says:

Great show! Now I’ll actually be able to work out how to use my D300!!

    Thanks,
    MikeF

  304. Kelly Palmquist says:

As a Nikon shooter, this is fun news and I enjoyed the show. It is always great to get tips and tricks.
    Some areas I think would be interesting to see in the show are;
“Stump the pros” – a place to send our questions and problems; could be helpful for Nikon too.
“Compare lenses” – show us the difference between common lens (50 1.8 vs 1.4,,, and so on) can help to make future purchases easier.
“Season specific gear tips” – for some it is still winter and some good tips to help protect my Nikon gear would be great.
“Menu tips” – I liked Matts tip on the D300, simple, easy to miss for many, but very useful.
“Dust” – how to live with it?
“Lens care” – any tips here… storage, cleaning, hoods, filters…

Look forward to the next show.

PS I did not mind the sounds from the camera on table, it was familiar so it was a reminder that you have the same gear as I do.

  305. David says:

How about mentioning when the technique is not camera specific (nikon/sony/canon/etc)? The live view setting of the color temperature is useful to anyone with a point-and-shoot to a DSLR with live view.

The upcoming HDR issue is likely to be camera agnostic as well. I know you focus on Nikon (hey they are paying the bills) and it would be nice to point out when it works for others. I know that I’m more likely to watch for the non-nikon specific bits.

  306. martin says:

great show. photoshopuser tv could learn from this no bs approach

  307. Brad V. says:

    Scott & Matt,

Great show and I’m looking forward to many, many more. I, too, use the Di-GPS and have found it reliable and excellent especially with its 10-pin pass through connector allowing me to use a cable release when the unit is mounted. As such, I don’t see that Nikon’s GPS will offer anything that the D-GPS doesn’t give me.

At some point I hope you’ll get into how to take multiple exposures, how to set the FUNC button for various tasks, explanations of the different focusing systems (3-D tracking, etc.), and so forth. There’s a lot to these cameras and can no doubt offer plenty of material to keep the show going.

I didn’t find the music irritating and I never even noticed the “clanks”. I wasn’t bothered by the black shirt or the yellow color. It was the content that captured my interest. Great job, guys, and I’ll be looking forward to future episodes.

    Brad

  308. Jcorkrum says:

Thanks for a good 1st show. My only thought was please don’t forget about us D200 users. There are still a bunch of us around who can’t afford the upgrade to the new line of cameras because of the economy.

  309. Cchull says:

Really enjoyed the show. As a relatively new D90 owner, I was delighted to see it included in your tips.

  310. Dave says:

Great show. I’m new to DSLR’s so I particularly appreciated that the tips were also aimed at D90 owners like me.

  311. Matt,
I really liked your camera tip for the f7-Customize command dials, Menus and playback. I’ve had the D200 for almost 2 years and I never heard of it. Thanks a lot. It’s much better that the use of the multi-touch selector.
    David

  312. Penny says:

Scott, I love what you’re doing with this. I don’t know if this has been mentioned or if it falls into the realm of the show, but if you could go over firmware updates, why we do, how we do, what they do (i.e., improvements they make.). Thanks again, Penny

  313. SM says:

Thank you very much for your effort.
    I really hope to continue.
    Thanks again.

  314. Andreas says:

Maybe anything about the D80 camera would be nice? :)

    Greetings from Sweden.

  315. Art says:

Nice show and looking forward to more; I use Capture NX2 and like it very much. Would like to use Lightroom 2 but it doesn’t render Capture NX2 edits in RAW so the only way to view edits in LR2 is to save as jpeg in Capture NX2, and that i kind of clunky going back and forth. any ideas on this? if so, please address in future show. thanks.

  316. Pete says:

Glad you will be doing this show and I am sure it will get better and better over time. However, I hate the name. I think D-Town sounds like the name of a boy-band.

  317. Larry Larsen says:

I am glad to see this happening. One thing that I want to see is an alternative to landscape/wildlife/wedding/portrait photography. Nearly all of the books and magazines are gear toward that segment. Lets have some info on street and/or travel photography. The settings one would make in the camera menu would be very different for street. What are they?

  318. Phil I says:

Great job guys. Love to see my D90 implemented throughout the show.

A few ideas for later shows:
    1. Tips/tricks in Adobe Photoshop (CS4)
    2. Explanation of ISO; Auto-ISO, and what ISO to use in different situations
    3. Accessories: Battery grips, flashes SB-400 through SB-900, lenses
    4. Studio photography; lighting, softboxes, umbrellas, slave flash setup, TTL, etc.
    5. HDR photography

    Keep up the good work!

  319. Rick says:

    Great show!

I’m hoping your primary focus stays on tips for using the cameras themselves. But loved the software tricks as well. Also hoping you keep showing some accessories such as the GPS unit on your first show.
I know you gents already have a Photoshop show, and there is already a vast amount of information on Photoshop. So it would be great to see you concentrate your software tricks on something other than Photoshop CS?. And show tips on NX Capture, Lightroom, Elements, Etc.

  320. Mike B says:

What about some tips about the issue of blowing out single channels.
I have a fairly new D700 and have noticed banding in the extreme blues of skies or sunrise/sunset images. Looking closer at the histograms reveals that one channel is very spectacularly blown out! Since seeing this I’ve tried to avoid blowing out single channels but with sunrises I’m finding it very difficult without severely underexposing the image. So, I’m assuming that blowing out the red is ok to do, but how much is too much – at what point will it begin to show up in your prints and what can we do to avoid it? WIll WB settings affect it at all? What about reducing the saturation in the picture controls? I’ve been playing around with this stuff but haven’t come to any definitive conclusions. I’d love to hear this topic discussed by the pros (uh, that’s you guys!).

Also, Sekonic light meters like Frank A suggest 2 messages up!! Yes, I 2nd that one too!

  321. Erick Manzano says:

    Great show.

I would love to see the new Nikon 35mm f/1.8 G review. I’m waiting for that lens for a month now.

More Power to your show. Will definitely add this to my Pod Cast.

  322. RandL says:

I would like to see a segment on printers and getting fine works of art to print. I’m having the biggest dilemma on which large format printer to buy or just outsource them to one of the many places like Mpix. I know Scott uses an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 but is it cost effective as opposed to using Mpix? What about CISS or refill kits for the 3800?
    Thanx

  323. Richard S. says:

Great show! Althought it was only a ten minutes show you guys managed to give those ten a real ride.

What I want to see is more about is Nikons semi cameras. To get the attention from people all over the world, I’ll think you have to do something for them to. The cheapest SLR is D40 and D60, wich can be a great deal if you know how to handle them. You also have the D80, wich has been on the market for a couple of years now.

    I’m an D80 user, I love it.

    Once again, Great show!

    Greetings from Sweden.

  324. Dan Harrod says:

    Great stuff !

I’d love to see a show all about flash for various scenarios. Wildlife, portraits, sports, weddings etc.. How to use if as a main light source on and off the camera. Also how to use fill flash, what modes to use on camera AND on the flash. TLL or not ? Diffuser or bounce card ? More than one flash ? Etc etc. Many thanks !

  325. OK Folks, I’ve been watching the comments for a while now and I wanted to chime in.

First, to all the folks who have left nice comments. Thank you SO MUCH! You have no idea how far those kind words go.

To the folks that are displeased we didn’t do a Canon show I’d like you to think about something. Say last Thursday you woke up and saw a brand new “Canon Mark-EOS-Rebel-Town Show” from Scott and Matt. What would your first thought be, knowing that you’ve seen us on Photoshop TV, blogs, podcasts, books, live, etc… holding our Nikon D-whatevers.

You’d call us sell-outs in a heartbeat. You’d write nasty comments about how Canon must be padding our wallets and so on. You’d never trust anything we said again because you’d think we (and our teaching) could be bought. So how do we win?

Also, would you really want two Nikon guys to do a Canon show? Seriously, why? It’d be like us doing an Apple Aperture podcast. We don’t use it so why would you want us to create a podcast on it. You’d never trust us again.

In the end, I’d rather take the “why didn’t you do a Canon show?” comments any day over the other ones we’d get if we actually did a Canon show. The worst you can do is be mad that we didn’t do another show for your camera, but you can’t say we were dishonest (we told you exactly why we did a Nikon show) or call us sell-outs. You may not be happy, but next time it comes around to reading our blog, watching or buying one of our products, at least you’ll know we only teach what we know (and are excited about) and it wasn’t created because somebody paid us to use their product.

    Thanks,
    Matt Kloskowski

  326. I just purchased my new d700 and am on my way to India to put it to good use. I will try to access your cool new program from an internet cafe on the road when I’m fixing for a new tip (which will be often for this DSLR newbie). Thanks!!!

  327. David F. says:

Great show guys. I have Canon 40d and I still learned a new trick (live color balance) that works on my camera. Cool. I will watch this show even though I do not have a Nikon camera. Matt and Scott know their craft. I guess I will be the only Canon guy here. Looking forward to more shows.

  328. Simone Narducci says:

Great show!! I had the D70 and just got the D90. Can’t wait to try all your tips. Keep it up the good work.
I would love to hear about aperture .

  329. Great Idea to give a tip about a non-obvious but very easy way to set the White Balance using Live View. Keep the tips mostly on the cameras – after all, how many copies of Capture NX are out there versus how many Nikon cameras?

    Thanks! Looking forward to more!

  330. Dariela says:

Hello, I watched all the show. I love this new show. I am a beginner DSLR user and I have a D40. It would be nice to see some tips for that camera too. Thanks again!!

  331. Keenan says:

Good to see the Photoshop User TV duo with a new webcast/tv show! I personally don’t own a Nikon but I’ve been able to still learn a few tricks here and there.

Really hope you guys jump onto iTunes soon so I can download these instead of waiting for them to load on the website :P – Also glad we can leave comments on each episode unlike Photoshop User TV.

  332. Vik says:

    Hi guys!

Nice piece of work! I look forward to tunning in each week, some of the stuff is simple but I guess most of us don’t realise the functionality is there untill it’s shown to us!

To the people who are leaving really bad comments…it’s simple, don’t watch the shows, don’t tune in, don’t type http://www.dtowntv.com, just don’t comment…just carry on watching your fav daytime soap and let the rest of us enjoy this good resource these guys are giving us. I’d love to see how good you guys who make these comments are at taking shots?! Ur probably as bad as the comments you have left!

  333. Tim says:

    Scott and Matt:

I enjoy everything that you guys do, and I am deeply grateful, as a Nikon shooter, that you have put together this resource. The first episode was great, and I look forward to seeing what you have in store. Not sure why anyone would complain about free information. Would love to see you guys cover using the SB900 off-camera and what accessories you would use, stands, umbrella, soft box, hot shoe brackets, etc. Thanks again for this great Nikon resource!

  334. Alton Marsh says:

You’re making me think seriously about returning to the Nikon world. I used to have Canon envy and turned in my Nikon N90 for a Canon, but after many years I have Nikon envy.

When you first talked about Capture NX1 I was unfamiliar and thought maybe that was two programs, “Capture” and “NX1.” I stopped the video and read the name at the top of Matt’s computer. I’m still unclear about whether it is something that comes with a Nikon camera or is something purchased separately but I intend to check it out.–Al

  335. Isabelle says:

Great show! I can wait to see the following episode!!!

I would like more tricks on Capture NX2!

    Thanks!

  336. Patrick says:

I just wanted to compliment Matt and Scott on their inaugural show. As a longtime Nikon shooter, and recent D90 owner, the material you covered was relevant and I was able to use it right out of the box. I look forward to many more shows and tips. Thanks for doing what you do!

  337. Dwight3 says:

It’s always nice to see what other people do with their cameras. The only thing I might want on your show is maybe a brief agenda or list of topics covered in the episode. I’m always rushed, so it would be nice if I could know if it’s worth making time now or if it’s something I think I know something about, I might want to put it off until a quiet time (whenever that is). However, I can always learn something more about what I think I know.

  338. Fabulous show. I have the SB600 and am brand new to the flash. Tips and tricks for setting & using it would be great!

  339. Evelyn says:

My husband and I just bought us a Nikon D 90 with a 18-200 lens. This is our first Nikon and are interested in learning all we can about what our camera can do. I’ve watched your two shows and I think they were great. I am looking forward to your other shows. They were very infomative. I am excited on learning all I can with your shows. Thanks you, keep up the good work!

  340. Neil Gordon says:

Great show – thank you. I am a professional and have been using Nikon D series since the D1 was launched. I have had the D3 since launch and thought I knew most of the features but using the centre button for one touch magnification was knew to me. I set it yesterday morning and used it at least 100 times in the afternoon when shooting a wedding – a great tip.
The HDR instruction was also useful and prompted me to buy Photomatix.
For future shows I am keen to see more information on camera features, accessories, and articles on professionals – the gear they use, and short videos with their tips for different disciplines.
    Thanks again.

1st I like to say how cool this show is. Even I do not have a Camera yet This is helping me out a great deal. And I like to ask if you can do some shows with D40,D60 even they are older model some New beginners and students are starting on those since they may be on a tight budget. Over all I am gratfully for this show and tips. Like to see more on HDR and about using light. I have seen on some many pages Light is key factor How do you take a photo in sunrise or close to sunset…or if just inside and there is only house lights bulb or floresent. Again Great fresh show. I like to embed show in blog to show case to others any way on that?

  344. Reginald says:

Outstanding show! Very informative! Keep ‘em coming! Forgive me for the overuse of the exclamation point!

  345. Photomeister says:

Nice show and great concept! Would love to have one of the new cameras, but “only” have a D80. Hope that everything is not just about features on the newer or higher end models – if so, you are leaving a lot of the audience out.

  346. Mel says:

Great guys…I’m off to subscribe. Yep CLS would be great along with shooting for stock.

  347. Barnacle says:

Nice website. Very informative. I subscribe to Kelby On-line Training and watch P/S TV–this complements both. On a personal note– more on D-90 and NX-2 would be appreciated. On a general note, I hope Nikon appreciates what a good thing they have with you guys. Keep up the good work.

    Scott and Matt,
To a rank amateur, you guys are 2 of the best teachers out there>>
My question: on my D300 I have semi permanently attached a Kirk tripod plate to the bottom fore quick attachment to the Tripod..I am about to buy a battery pack for the D300. Will I loose the ability to have the tripod plate readily attached or do I have to disassemble. Also on this topic of the battery pack–maybe you might give some feed back if this extra “juice” will allow more fps and what kind of memory card you will need for clearing the buffer. Extreme 3 or 4??
    Thanks so much

  351. Scott & Matt,
After discovering you and the others on AdobeTV.com, I have really improved my photographic and graphic design skills. My family will take turns watching and being encouraged. I’m usually busy writing down notes on index cards for our own little resource for enforcing what is learned.
I can’t wait until I can finally move up from the Olympus point & shoot camera with the 16MB memory card.
    Always watching,
    Rob Cookenour & Family

Thank you for the great Nikon tips! I would love some basic tips on photographing weddings with the D300. I am brand new to digital photography (I am a devotee to film, but finally made the leap!), and would really appreciate a basic working knowledge. Thank you so much!

You can trick your d300 into shooting 9fps without the mbd-10 battery pack.
Go on youtube and you will get step by step instructions.

Hi. I am new photographer from Illinois, using a Nikon D80. I learned a lot from your show, even though your show are concentrated on Nikon D90 and above. I still love watching your videos. ;O) Hopefully, once we have the money, we will buy a Nikon D300 or D700, so we can be in tune with your videos. TC and GB! ;O)

NOTE: I will link your website to my webpage to advertise how good you guys are in what you do. Keep up the good work. ;O)

I have been a professional commercial/industrial photographer for over 40 years and photographed all over the world. I also run a school for advanced amateur and professional photographers in Canada. I believe in buying the best and therefore I have always been a Nikon user. My studio got into digital in the first few months it was introduced. Finding knowledgeable, easy to understand individuals to teach the new technologies has been very difficult. The first hour with your Nikon course taught me more than the last 10 years of conventions, seminars and supposed learned other professional photographers. Your very easy to learn from. Keep up the excellent work. I have only seen 4 episodes to date but I am hooked and look forward to more great info from all of you.

I enjoy your show very much. I changed to Nikon about eight months ago and bought the D700 with the 24/70 F2.8 lens and the 70/200 F2.8 lens. I love the sharp pictures these lens produce , but I travel and hike
around the world. I am 72 in really good shape more like 60 but the weight of this back pack is a killer hiking
in hills and mountains. I also find going into villages in third world countries the size of these cameras affends the people which is the last thing I want to do. Should have DX set up to lighten the load for when I travel?
If so what would you guy s recommend.

    Thanks
    Bruce

I recently got the Nikon D300 with the 18-200 VR lens and I am thrilled that I found a show that cuts through the 300 page manual! Seriously though, your tips on the camera and on NX2 are most appreciated. But I was wondering, does NX2 have the same “layer” concept as PS?

Ok, im shooting with a Canon 30D and an L series 24-7mm f/2.8. I try to shoot at ISO 100 with fast 1000second shutter speeds.
