Hey thats only half the story.
If you have groups you will get in trouble with the cmd/ctrl click. Cause you wont get the Layer you clicked on!
A way i like to use it is:
I CTRL + Option +click or ALT + rightclick!
And if you current tool is one of the first 5 you can throw the cmd or ctrl key in to make it work even when you not on the move tool!
for me ctrl is the best options
